Order of filters?

Hi
When applying more than one filter (FCP 6.0.4) on a clip should the 3-way color corrector filter always be first or last in the order of filters in the filters tab?
Thanks
K

That too is an art.
I believe that FCP will render them from top to bottom. SO a final color correcting will need to be on the bottom. BUT - it might be that you want to color correct and THEN add some other effect, like a posterize ... or a gamma shift. If you add the CC after the gamma it will affect the video based on the new gamma.
Understand?

  • LR 2 - No sort order in filters

Unlike described in the online help there is no menu item to change the sort order of the items in the metadata filters. It's hard to find a location if they aren't sorted alphabetically.

    A-ha... I see.
I don't use hierarchical view, as i find using four flat location columns more convenient, but indeed, in hierarchical view only the top level (i.e. countries) seems to be sorted. The rest states/provinces, cities and sublocations come in a totally random order.
I think it could easily be filed as a bug (or at least a forgotten 'must be' feature), as I can't see a reason why the list should not be sorted.

  • How does digital filter order influnce filtered data , the higher the better?

Seems that higher order filter has better filter effect ofcut-off frequnecy is set to be constant.
So filter order the higher the better?
is there any side effects for higher order? such as phase delay?

    fenny,
The main effect of a higher filter order is that the roll-off is much quicker (i.e., there are fewer frequencies between the pass band and the stop band). Depending on the type of filter that you use, there may be more phase delay with higher orders. Some filters are designed for phase delay (I think elliptical and Chebyshev are phase delay filters), but some filters will not give anymore phase delay with higher orders (e.g. a Butterworth filter). But there aren't really any "side effects" to having higher orders other than possibly longer processing times. I hope this answers your questions!

  • Sort order with filtered topics

When looking at all topics in a forum, the topics are listed by the date of the latest post. This makes a certain amount of sense.
Yet when I filter the display to only show me Open Questions, the display isn't sorted by date. I'm not sure what sort criteria is used, but it's not date. I'll see something posted the 6th, then the 5th, then the 4th, then the 5th again...
Is there a way to sort threads when looking at the filtered display?

The problem still exists and there is no workaround. Just because there is a promise of an eventual fix does not mean the question has been answered. To answer the question, there must be either a reasonable workaround, or a permanent fix to the problem.

  • How do I determine the best Order to run my butterworth filter at?

I'm lowpass filtering a signal that was sampled at 200hz through a 40Hz butterworth. I need to determine the optimal filter order. How do i create a quantitative comparison of the effects of the butterworth filter on the frequencies above 40Hz based on varying order?
I have tried using the FFT to create a chart in the frequency space, but am not sure how to proceed. Any help would be greatly appreciated. What I want to compare is the path immediately before and immediately after the butterworth filter.
Also is there an alternate way to read in a column of numbers from a text file without using the Read from Measurement file Express VI?

I have my filter working correctly now. I just need a quantifiable way to justify picking any one order of filtering over another.
Here is my front panel, How can I compare the (After/ Before) graphs of varying orders (in a quantifiable way)? How can one tell which is the best?
I was thinking I could compare the (Integral from 0 to 40)/40 and the (Integral from 40-inf). The order that yeilds the closest to 1 and 0 respectively should be the one I go with. Does that sound logical?
How do I compute a definite integral with a lower bound and an upper bound?

  • Facing data type error when changing the order of fields in a query

    Hello Experts
    I am working on E sourcing 5.1.
I have a query with some filters . I want to change the position of a particular filter.
Basically I want to move a filter of type date to the top , so that it is the 1st parameter.
I was able to do this by reorder option.
However at runtime it gives me an error saying that "error  u201CORA-00932:  inconsistent datatypes:  expected NUMBER got date."
Later I reverted back my changes so that the date filed is at its original position and faced no issues.
    Query worked fine.
Is the order of filters important when executing a query.
Please suggest how can I move the date filter to the top of the query's filter list.
    Regards
    Vikas

    Hello Vikas,
Its not the SELECT statements that you need to change. You have to change the WHERE caluse.
In the WHERE clause, some of the conditions will have some table column equated to a '?' symbol. This symbol is a place-holder for a filter prompt. There is a one-to-one correspondence between the '?' symbols and the filter prompts created in the query(under the Filter Prompt tab). This means that the first '?' corresponds to the first filter prompt, second '?' to the second filter prompt and so on.
Keeping the above information in mind, you can attempt to make changes to your query. You can duplicate your existing query and try your hands at it.
One more point worth mentioning : It is evident that if you need to use the same filter prompt at more than once place in the query definition, you have to create more than one instance of that query prompt.(Here by another instance I mean that the two filter prompts should have same values in their fields when you define them.) But even when you create more than one instance of a filter prompt, on the UI it will appear just as a single instance.
If things have become more confusing than before (of which there is a high probability ) then please go through the online help for Queries. It has got an extensive documenation and will be surely be of some help to you.
    Good luck!!

  • Automatic release of plant maintenance order at Plant level

    Dear All
I would like to release plant maintenance order automatically and would like to enable only for a specific plant.
Could you please suggest different options for this
    Thanks in advance
    Regards
    Yogesh +48 500287949

    Hi ,
There is no tcode for automatic release of Maintenance order . You have the below options :
    1. Activate the user exit IWO10009 PM Order: Customer Check for 'Save' Event which checks for specific plant and status of order is not released then it would release automatically ..
    2. Create a programme which runs as a batch job and this programme checks for PM Order and filters specific to plant and then filters the orders which are not released and then auto releases....The proramme should be set up as  a batch job which runs at every 30min or etc..
this would give you some idea ..

  • What does different filter order, signal processing specialist please help

I'm trying to filter out the high frequency noise(>2000hz), so I use a lowpass filter(butterworth filter) and set the frequency to be 2000 hz, but i noticed that when i use different order of filters, i got different results.
i have tried order=20,40,80,200, what on earth does the filter order mean?? how does it inflence my filtered result? any singal processing expert here?
    thanks.

    Hi,
An ideal lowpass filter will let all the frequencies under the cutoff frequency (2KHz in your case) pass without any change and filt out those greater than the cutoff frequency totally. Theoretically, when the order is infinte, you'll get an ideal lowpass filter. However, infinte order is not practical. Firstly, you do not have all the history data of the signal (since minor infinte). Secondly, the computing is impossible for infinte filter length. So when the order is a finite value, the lowpass filter is an approximation to the ideal filter. That means the frequencies under cutoff frequency are not passed exactly and the frequencies greater than the cutoff frequency are not really removed totally. The greater the order, the more the filter close to the
ideal one and the more computations. This is the reason why you got different result when using different order. But it is not necessary to have filter with so high order you tried. Typically an order less than 10 will work well.

  • How to get the ID of a dimension member in script logic?

    Hi everybody,
I am working in some logic scripts and I wonder if exists any option to get the current member ID of a dimension in order to concatenate a string using the member referred and an additional set of caracters such as: MEMBER_ID&"_ccccc".
Moreover, I would like to use this ID dimension member in order to filter members of another dimension whose attribute is equal to the ID of the desired member. Is it feasible?
In conclusion, is it possible to get a variable which is referred to a member ID of a dimension, and using it in order to filtering other dimensions?
    Many thanks in advance,
    Antonio

    Hi Antonio,
You ask if it is possible compare a dimension id with a property value.. yes it is posible , for doing that you will have to do something like this,
    *FOR %ACC1%=ThisA,ThisB,ThisC
          *WHEN DIMENSION.PROPERTY=%ACC1%
                  *REC(............)
           *ENDWHEN
    *NEXT
if you want to concatenate using a filter theres a posibility, like this example using the time dimension.
    *xdim_memberset time=%year%.jan -
    >2011.jan
    hope it helps

  • I seem to be limited to 4MB/s... Did I annoy someb...

I've been having problems with my broadband connection/speed over the past few weeks. On the 27th I put in a call and reported a fault. The guy I spoke to said "my issue would be resolved within 4 days" and it wasn't... So I called again last night. Now, maybe I should have waited 4 WORKING days but since the help line is open 24/7 I assumed that BT would be working 24/7 to fix this. Silly of me? Maybe. But an honest mistake on my part!! I use the Internet 24/7 so I notice the second I have a problem and I don't like to be messed around any more than the next man. Anyway, I called up last night and was told there was no fault... The guy told me to replace the filters as a faulty filter could cause my broadband to drop out and slow down. I only replaced them a couple of months ago and I don't have spares so he said he would send some out, free of charge, and I would have them within 2 working days.  I highly doubt that the filter is the problem but anyway, I continued to test my line and when I went to sleep at around 11pm my speed was around 3.5MB/s. I just woke up (3am) and have been testing for an hour...normaly at this time I'm achieving speeds in excess of 6MB/s but I've not been able to get anything over 4MB/s and I'm getting very consistent results of around 3.9MB/s...  I'm no expert but it does seem like I have been limited to 4MB/s. Here is a screen shot of my speed test results presented in a graph:
    http://gyazo.com/7ac69a1d7f7049b4ddcc8eba618a0ab8
you can see a very suspicious looking flat line there which is very unusual and only seems to have started since I put in the call last night. You can also see my speed dropping out to less than 1MB/s so you know I'm really not making this issue up!!! I pay the full price for the full package with unlimited downloads etc and I use the Internet A LOT. I suffer with mental health issues and I'm at home all the time on the Internet so having my service disrupted like this has had a BIG effect on me and maybe I am become obsessed?.. But I know there is a problem!!! I cant play online games because I keep getting disconnected. This is a problem that has only existed for the last few weeks..i never had a problem before and I've been gaming at this address for over 2 years. I UNDERSTAND THAT MY SPEED WILL DROP DURING PEAK TIMES!!!!!!!!!!!!! But that has never stopped me from gaming before and on the 27th when I put in the first call I couldn't even stream a 240p youtube video... It was that bad.
I have ordered new filters form Amazon (don't wanna wait 2 days) so I can confirm that isn't the problem when I call them back but I just don't see what else I can do about this and having my speed limited seems extremely unfair! I wasn't rude at all in anyway. I just asked him what was going on. Maybe I am being totally paranoid??? But this is really driving me insane!! I just want to get back to some kind of normality and i have a nasty feeling that BT wont do anything to help. i cant "live with it" i would rather cancel my contract than live with this.
Any advise would be greatly appreciated!!

Oh I see that would explain my problems this afternoon then.
it maybe worth adding that although my connection normally does slow down in the evenings, its not every day that it tends to cut out and drop down to silly speeds (less than 500KB/s). I had no problems on Friday or Saturday night and was recording speeds of over 4MB/s even at peak times. It was Sunday afternoon that the problem seemed to start again, dropping to less than 1MB/s and I was getting a 250ms Ping with a -166% packet loss. This really makes no sense to me... How can it lose more packets than it started with? Or am I reading the results wrong? Anyway, it wasn't as bad as the 27th but still unusable really.  And your right I am very close to the exchange. I could probably throw a stone at it while standing in my garden.
    Speed test (17:05pm):
Download speedachieved during the test was - 2815 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 600-7150 Kbps.
     Additional Information:
     Your DSL Connection Rate :7616 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 6500 Kbps
This drop in speed is understandable at this time and today my Ping is great at 55ms. Was around 3pm yesterday that I first got disconnected from my gaming session. And I did a speed test which recorded a bandwidth of around 2MB/s with a Ping around 100-150ms. I'll test again at 7pm and post the results.
    Speed test (19:00pm)
Download speedachieved during the test was - 4010 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 600-7150 Kbps.
     Additional Information:
     Your DSL Connection Rate :7616 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 6500 Kbps
So there seems to be no problem at all this evening. Ping is great. Speed is fine. Not really any issues today... You could easily believe that there is no issue at all... And that's exactly why it makes no sense to me. 1 day its fine and the next mi getting cut off, speeds drop way below what they should be and my ping is all over the place. Am I to accept this as normal service now? I'm really not happy about it. There have been times that the speed has dropped way below "the acceptable range of speeds" and so I'm finding it hard to believe there isn't a problem... Only thing left to do now is get the new filters and wait to see if they resolve the issue.
    Massive THANK YOU to

    Ping Flood??
I did receive threats just recently that I would be hacked... Could this possibly be the issue?
Had problems from around 8pm -10:30pm. Speed was ranging wildly from 0.7MB/s to 4.0MB/s during this time and the ping was also all over the place. Take a look at this:
    http://gyazo.com/ca21b2cb6fa9c5172a7f308e9d47af9e
Speed and ping seemed to very quickly return to normal (55ms 5-6MB/s) around 10:30pm
and had no problems up until 2:20am when I lost Internet connection again. Seemed exactly the same as earlier in that I couldn't load a webpage but the broadband light on my home hub was glowing blue.that only lasted for a few minutes and now everything is fine again.

  • Can a subquery hosted within a table reference that hosting table?

I have a large table that tracks Orders and Deliveries ("OrderAssign"). The OrderID column has a dropdown with a query that references some other tables that cover order details, like when each Order is due.
I'd like the dropdown query to only display order details for Orders that haven't been filled ("OrderAssign.Filled = 0"). The problem, I think, is that this would mean the query would reference the table that hosts it. Is this possible? I tried
to set up a test case, and got a generic syntax error I've seen many times before when the syntax is correct, but I'm using a SQL structure that Access doesn't like.
This table is linked to SQL, so I could also write a SQL view or function if that makes a difference.
    I'm using Access 2010. Thanks!
EDIT: Huh, so I figured out a way, I think. I created a SQL view that filtered the records the way I wanted; then used the Linked Table Manager to create a linked view; then used that linked view in my dropdown subquery.
So I guess my follow up question to this is: is there any reason I SHOULDN'T do this? Will there be any issues with existing records in the table whose values will no longer show up in the constraining dropdown subquery?
EDIT 2: And I think I found the deal breaker. The field doesn't display the first column with the "real" info, the ID#. It displays the second. Once you add a query that doesn't display every row in the table, that query no longer has results to
display for the filtered records. So some of the records display the "real" info, which the users don't want to see, and the open records show the second field. Messy.
    hydrogonium

I might not be using the right terminology. I have a lot of experience with SQL Server, relatively little with Access. I am doing this for a client who is used to entering data directly into the table, and wants minimal changes. However, the dropdown literally
has thousands of entries, which could be pruned by ~80% if filled orders are filtered out.
The table has "dropdown subqueries" (probably not the right term), which were created like so:
    - Go to the Design tab.
    - Click on the field you want to modify.
    - Go to the lookup tab.
    - Change the Display Control to 'Combo Box'
    - Change the Row Source to a query, in my case, 'SELECT * FROM LinkedSQLView'
    - Format the list as you want it displayed; in my case, the actual ID# is hidden in the first column, and the other ten columns are displayed.
    The fields in question are:
    - OrderRequestID (Number on Access / Int on SQL Server) - has a dropdown.
    - OrderFillID (Number on Access / Int on SQL Server) - has a dropdown.
    - OrderFilled (Yes/No on Access / Bit on SQL Server).
Purpose / Background: This table is basically a clearinghouse for entities making orders and other entities filling them. My client sits in the middle and matches everything up. It can get very complicated, because different products qualify for different
orders, and the amount supplied can be smaller or greater than an individual order.

  • Heavy SQL process

    Hello,
We wanted to develop a parametrable SQL filter that can make comparison, sorting and updating operations with our RDBMS (Sybase SQL Server 11.9.2.3 connected to Websphere Application Server 3.5.4).
Since a generic item (it's a product) of our RDMS contains 400 attributes and that we have approximatively 70000 items in our database, performance is quite important for us !
A typical operation of our software is to compare one product (and his 400 attributes one by one in a discriminate order) for filtering purpose.
So we got several architecture alternatives :
    - Stay in the Java world and load all needed objects in memory (using for exemple a relationnal/object mapping framework like Castor) and then compare them... but it's too bad in term of performance !
    - Delocalize compare methods in the SQL world by using JDBC Query or JDBC call to stored procedure...
Does anybody known the best way to deal with this sort of heavy SQL process in the Java World ?
All samples, documentations, filtering or compare algorithms are welcome !
    Thanks a lot
    Ghislain Sillaume

If you mean that the Java/CASTOR option would be to pull in a large number of the products into memory, map them into object to do a comparison, then that would be unwise at best. If you only need to pull in a few of the products, that may be sufficiently fast (as fast or faster than doing it in the DB.
It seems to me that a technique based on writing stored procedures to do your comparisons would be your best bet, assuming that a few sufficiently paramaterized stored procs would suffice. This, coupled with adequate indexes and well design queries should perform quite well. If you need to then pull the product definitions into a Java program, you can use an OR mapper or hand coding to do it quite easily once you figured out what the results should be...

  • Applying LIMIT (dimen.) TO TOP (...) BASEDON (...) structure in OLAP_TABLE

    Hi
I'd like to know how to apply structure
LIMIT dimension TO TOP (number of top member performers) BASEDON (measure)
    in OLAP_TABLE.
For instance I have a cube SALES with 2 measures: SALES_VALUE and QUANTITY and a dimension PRODUCT with two levels: TOTAL and PRODUCT_NAME. Then I want to list 3 products with the highest SALES_VALUE and QUANTITY > 100.
I can create for example such query:
    SELECT sales_val, quant, product_dsc
    FROM TABLE(OLAP_TABLE(
    'test_schema.test_aw DURATION SESSION',
    null,
    null,
    MEASURE sales_val FROM sales_value
    MEASURE quant FROM quantity
    DIMENSION product WITH
    HIERARCHY product_parentrel
    INHIERARCHY product_inhier
    ATTRIBUTE product_dsc FROM product_description
    ROW2CELL r2c'))
    WHERE
    OLAP_CONDITION(R2C, 'LIMIT product TO product_levelrel eq ''PRODUCT_NAME''', 1)=1
    AND OLAP_EXPRESSION_BOOL(R2C, ' quantity gt 100')=1
    AND OLAP_CONDITION(R2C, 'LIMIT product TO TOP 3 BASEDON sales_value, 1)=1;  ???????
Instruction above does not work completely well, because it will give 3 rows with top values of SALES_VALUE measure, but in this case OLAP_CONDITION(R2C, 'LIMIT product TO product_levelrel eq ''PRODUCT_NAME''', 1)=1 is not fulfilled (row with values of TOTAL_PRODUCT level appears).
    One can create such query:
    SELECT sales_val, quant, product_dsc
    FROM TABLE(OLAP_TABLE(
    'test_schema.test_aw DURATION SESSION',
    null,
*'LIMIT product TO TOP 3 BASEDON sales_value', ?????*
    MEASURE sales_val FROM sales_value
    MEASURE quant FROM quantity
    DIMENSION product WITH
    HIERARCHY product_parentrel
    INHIERARCHY product_inhier
    ATTRIBUTE product_dsc FROM product_description
    ROW2CELL r2c'))
    where
    OLAP_CONDITION(R2C, 'LIMIT product TO product_levelrel eq ''PRODUCT_NAME''', 1)=1
    AND OLAP_EXPRESSION_BOOL(R2C, ' quantity gt 100')=1;
It leads to the same result as the first query.
What shuold I do to make OLAP_CONDITION(R2C, 'LIMIT product TO product_levelrel eq ''PRODUCT_NAME''', 1)
    fulfill in query above?
I can add that query below works as it should (LIMIT TO TOP... omitted).
    SELECT sales_val, quant, product_dsc
    FROM TABLE(OLAP_TABLE(
    'test_schema.test_aw DURATION SESSION',
    null,
    null,
    MEASURE sales_val FROM sales_value
    MEASURE quant FROM quantity
    DIMENSION product WITH
    HIERARCHY product_parentrel
    INHIERARCHY product_inhier
    ATTRIBUTE product_dsc FROM product_description
    ROW2CELL r2c'))
    WHERE
    OLAP_CONDITION(R2C, 'LIMIT product TO product_levelrel eq ''PRODUCT_NAME''', 1)=1
    AND OLAP_EXPRESSION_BOOL(R2C, ' quantity gt 100')=1;
Thank you in advance for any help
    Peter

Peter, Yes, I hadn't considered the condition sales_value greater than 100 in my mail.
You can try either of the below limit cmds to include that condition too:
    limit product to limit(limit(limit(product to (product_levelrel eq 'PRODUCT_NAME') AND (sales_value gt 100)) keep top 3 basedon sales_value) sort top 3 basedon sales_value)
    -or-
    limit product to limit(limit(limit(limit(product to product_levelrel eq 'PRODUCT_NAME') keep sales_value gt 100) keep top 3 basedon sales_value) sort top 3 basedon sales_value)
I dont think one can be sure that having separate olap_condition filters for each condition will work fine all the time. To simulate the cascading of AND operations of where clause (filters) in SQL, we can use the nested limit() function to act on progressively smaller/better qualified resultsets (cells). SQL query would apply the AND filters in any manner or order that the optimizer deems fit whereas using the limit function with keyword "keep" within it indicates an implicit order of filters. SQL query with multiple olap_conditions might rank and find top 3 -or- bottom 5 before it applies the filter "sales_value gt 100". In such a case, you may find that the query will return no rows or return only the top 1 or 2 out of top 3 which are gt 100 -or- in case of bottom, return no rows or return less than 5 members (only those above 100) -- not necessarily 3 "top 3" or 5 "bottom 5" members.

  • Expected (wrong?) results from Express VI - a bug?

Using a Lab-Vierw supplied example made with express VIs fro signal egneration and ifltering.
MOdified the express VI so that instead of using a Butterworth lowpass it would use a Bessel with
variable order (variable # of poles).
Unexpecte result: when choose corbner freq = 1 KHz and drive with 1 KHz signal, I should get
output = 0.71 times input since at the corne freq, the output shuld be 3 dB down.
And I do get that result with a BUtterworth (all orders tried) or with a Bessel, if the Bessel is 1st order.
But for Bessel of order 2 or more, the attentiation is greater than expected, greater than it should be.
Bessel with Fc = 1000 Hz:
    8 pole: Out/In = 0.18 when f=1000; Out/in=0.71 when f=500 Hz.
    4 pole: Out/In = 0.39 when f=1000; Out/In = 0.71 when f=645 Hz.
    2 pole: Out/In = 0.57 when f=1000; Out/In = 0.71 when f=790 Hz.
    1 pole: Out/In = 0.71 when f=1000 as expected.
Is this a bug or is there another explanation?

The KB that I posted does show the transfer functions for the LabVIEW implementation of the Bessel functions.  As WCR points out this does change what the cutoff frequency is actually referring to when using higher order Bessel filters.  The LabVIEW help should reflect what the actual definition of the cutoff frequency for each filter, but it does not.  I also checked the Chebyshev filter VIs and it does not refer to the ripple dB when specifying what the cutoff frequency is for that type of filter.
So, does the LabVIEW implementation of the higher order Bessel functions give results that might not be expected?  Yes.  Should the help files be updated to reflect this?  Probably.
One thing that I did want to point out is that you can view the transfer functions used for the different types of filters using the Filter Express VI.  If you open the configuration page and select the Transfer function as the View Mode, it will show how the transfer function looks for each filter.  If you select Butterworth, you can increase the order and see it lock on the -3 dB point.  If you select Bessel, you can increase the order and watch the curve shift to the left, decreasing the dB values at the cutoff frequency.

I am using IID_IBASESELECTIONHANDLERDATA, but nothing happens.
Is this the correct why or do I need some other PMIID
    Thanks
    Jelle

As mentioned, the selection has two decoupled sides to it. The selection observer follows the high level ASB side, where by design you don't know about the selected entities such as page item. You just know whether they as a collection support a feature such as properties or methods.
The CSB side basically is specialized per kind of selected objects, and maps those high level calls into appropriate implementations. In other words only the CSB knows about selected page items, text ranges etc.
    You can take two approaches:
The first is modern and recommended, but complicated. You would write a suite including SuiteExt to follow the selection changes whether they are significant to your criteria. E.g. when you select a text frame then use the text tool to select text within it, would that count as the same selected page item? Same for XML... Text selection in the text editor window? Across multiple frames? You see the problem.
You would use the selection observer to watch the suite and automatically trigger the suite's method to call your external application. I think this feels wrong because any suite method beyond a const getter should only be invoked by user interaction on any kind of widget. No strict rule here ...
Especially for your page item / layout selections, there is a different, very old and much simpler approach. Implement an ISelectionFilter:
    IID_IK2SERVICEPROVIDER / kLayoutSelectFilterServiceImpl
    IID_ISELECTIONFILTER / kYourSelectionFilterImpl
The main purpose of the selection filter is minor adjustments before the actual selection change, so that the correct item is selected in more complicated hierarchies - standoff, TOP, inline and so forth. If you can live with the arbitrary execution order (other filters might fire after yours) your external app should be fine.
To the lurkers: even though possible, this is not the place to strip "protected" items off the selection, because you are too late for UI feedback such as showing a disabled mouse cursor.
