Order photos by capture date

I'm wanting to create a photobook of the last few years and need to order my photos by the date I took them.
I am looking at all my photos in the Libaray but they are not in order of the date I took them.
I presume it's under Library filters somewhere but I can't find it. I've checked date under attribute but they're not right.
Thanks.

  • LR5 Batch rename all photos to CAPTURE DATE+CAPTURE TIME+ORIGINAL FILENAME

    Hello there,
Does anyone know of a way to get LR5 to batch rename all it’s photos to CAPTURE DATE+CAPTURE TIME+ORIGINAL FILENAME?
I know the data is in there somewhere but my DATE+ORIGINAL FILENAME import rename preset has named all our photos with the date photos were imported not created (eeek!)
Thanks in advance for any input,
    Alex

If you are using Macintosh, you could also try purchasing A Better Finder Rename 9—I love it, and you can create droplets for all your file-renaming chores.
Beware: such app is best used *before* importing.
If you rename (outside Lightroom) after importing, your files will go missing and you'll have to re-link (or god forbid: re-import). Maybe that will be OK with you, and maybe it won't..
Also, such app has no idea what the original filename was, so in this case it would not do what the OP wants.

  • How to reorder photos in folders based on capture date

I have scanned a bunch of photographs and imported them into lightroom. I then went and changed all the capture dates to represent when the photos were actually taken. Now I would like to put the photo's in a folder structure based on the capture date (as all my other photo's are). How is it best to do this?
    Thanks,

Well, if you are going to re-import them, then you really don't need to export them first in original format.
I mean, assuming you checked the box which allows Lr to write to the raws when you changed capture time, then you should be able to simply delete (remove) from existing catalog, then re-import in preferred structure. If you did NOT allow Lr to update the raws (and so capture time would be lost when re-importing), then we need to talk (and I don't think exporting in original format will preserve capture time in that case either).
    Backup everything first...

  • How to export a photo in lightroom using capture date

I have photos in lightroom 5 i want to know how to have the capture date show in the photo when i export it. I want to see the capture date in safari on mac. I also want the capture date to match when i use metadata edit capture time some times the photo had a date in lightroom and a different date in metadata edit capture time.

There is a command line interface with the Administration Edition
that allows you do select which items are exported, based on the
    command switches you provide.
See the Discoverer Administration Guide, there's an appendix that
deals with all the command line options.

  • How do I add the capture date and time to the bottom corner of a photo?

How do I add the capture date and time to the bottom corner of a photo?

Not to the bottom, that I'm aware of, but to the top right or left in Grid view or to the top left in Loupe view. It is in the View Options.

  • PHOTOS IN CHRONOLOGICAL / DATE ORDER

I am using Adobe Photoshop Album Starter Edition 3.00.
I wish to organise my photo collection in date order. For example a recent special holiday starts at the end as slide 1, which also means the slide show automatically starts at the end. I have tried to change this by going to 'view', then 'arrangement' then 'date oldest first' but there is no response to clicking this. I just wish to reverse the order but also some of the pictures are out of sequence too, which is puzzling me!
Has any one got some tips as to how I overcome this challenge? I expect it will be really easy!!
Apologies if this is the second time this message has been posted..I wasn't sure what happened to the first.
    Penny

    Hi Penny,
The order for collections is entirely manual. You can put them in any old
way you want... but as you are finding, you can't do them automatically.
Now... one thing you COULD try is to fool the system a little bit.
Create a new Tag called "Reverse" or whatever you want. Select all the
images you want in the collection and then drag the tag onto the images.
Click on the tag and then reverse the order from oldest to newest. Create a
new collection name... drag it onto this reverse order set up...
Click on the collection name and that SHOULD put it in the order you want.
    Cheers

  • Order photos by date

I have been having difficulties for some time now regarding the order photo's are sync'd to my i-devices.  When I check the pictures under the general library, the photos are in some random order.  I understand that it is connected to how the photo program (in my case Aperture) is sorting.  I have selected (under Photo's in the general library sidebar (of Aperture) to sort by date, assending order) but that doesn't change anything.   I have even tried to open the library with iPhoto (now with the latest update making library unuiversal between iPhoto and Aperture) and then sync the same librabry thru iPhoto instead, but the order is still not by date.
I've even deleted the iPod Cache in the program packet contents folder....
    Any ideas?

You can't use that metadata in the Finder, but if your files were created on the date taken, you can Sort or Arrange by Date Created.
If you really want to organize by Date Taken (from the EXIF data), then use iPhoto. That is the program that organizes Photos.
Regardless, you are Arranging by Date Created, not Sorting.
Arrangement is a Grouping of like things. When you Arrange by a Date, it groups them by Today, Yesterday, Current Week, Month, and then by Year thereafter.
If you want to Sort by Date Created, hold down the Option key when selecting the button or menu item. The options will change from Arrange to Sort.
You can set both at same time from the View Options for the window (View menu, Show View Options).
You can Arrange independent of Sort, and Sort independent of Arrange (set Arrangement to None), or you can do both. If you Arrange by one criteria, you can then sort the items in each group by another criteria.
In your case, you can set the Arrangement to None, then the Sort to Date Created.
Or, if you like the groupings, but also want the files in the group sorted by Date Created, Set both Arrangement and Sort to Date Created.

Apparently OSX Yosemite doesn't recognize shot (capture) date of the photos.
The problem has highlithted after installing new Photo app, in which every photo is imported using the Creating date of the file, not the Shot date.

    Try trash the following file

  • Ordering photos without date .

I have bought a new camera on which I did not set the date (canon powershot).  When I uploaded pics to lightroom they are in a completely random order.  I thought that they would be in the order taken even without a date. I've tried sorting them by capture date in the library but no luck

  • Import old film photos as tif, capture date set to 12/31/03 (1903)

Lightroom 5.5 on Mac Mountain Lion, 8gb memory, files on external usb 2.0 hard drive.
Imported old film images as tifs.  Looking in metadata the capture date on all images shows as 12/31/1903 (12/31/03?).  Where did this come from as there is no capture date in the original film tif image.  Is there a setting someplace I missed?  Is this a bug?
    TIA for assistance/answer provided.
    Milt

The date created metadata within the document is hosed, I've seen this with files in the past, not sure what causes it. Why that old date, who knows but it's a common issue:

  • How to order photos in a folder

Hello guys. I use my new iPad2 to work sometimes, and now I need to make two folders and each one with 50 photos to show to a client. I need that the items in folders has an order. I do it in the pc with the name _MG_01 _MG_02 etc, but when I see it in the iPad after sincronization, the order appears incorrect. What can I do? Thanks

The photos will be ordered by date, not by name, so you will need to manipulate their capture dates if you want them in a different order : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4221

  • Re-order photos

    How i can re-order photo's on my Ipad 2??

You can't - if you are syncing photos from folders on your computer then they will be sorted by capture date. To re-order them you will need to manipulate their dates on your computer and then re-sync : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4221

  • Unknown Capture Date/Time

I have several dozen photos with either no capture date or something irregular that I concocted up (like "2012 Spring"). I notice that Lightroom assigns today's date and time to those photos when importing them. That means that I can't find them using the metadata "unknown date" filter. Is there any way I can get it to leave them alone, or just leave the date field blank? Thanks in advance!!

In the absence of specific camera exif data Lightroom will always work with the date created or modified e.g. the date scanned or the date of the last edit. You can edit or add metadata, but unfortunately it’s a manual process. See this help link.

If you need the images in a fixed order for a project such as a slideshow or web gallery, its best to use a collection. The thumbnails can then be dragged around and will remain fixed in you chosen order.

  • Importing from iMovie 06, lose capture dates

When I import old iMovie 06 movies, the capture dates gets lost. Here is one of the original clips in iMovie 06:
However, after importing in iMovie 11, the capture dates are lost.  I tried many variations, like import the iMovie 06 project, or cd to the *.iMovieProject directory and import the actual clips, etc.
Now, good iMovie11 clips have the capture date imbedded in the file name (as in clip-2010-03-14 hh;mm;ss.dv).  However, the ones imported from iMovie 06 end up in iMovie 11 with simple names such as clip55.dv.  So it's not surprising I cannot see the capture dates in iMovie 11.
So I looked inside the *.iMovieProject directory hoping to find the capture dates either in the file name or in a plist, but I couldn't (nothing in the plists below)
    ... Jan 23  2010 Cache/Thumbnails.plist
    ... Jan 23  2010 Cache/Timeline Movie Data.plist
    ... Jan 23  2010 Cache/Timeline Movie.mov
    ... Nov  8  2009 Media/Clip55.dv
    etc
Finally, I opened Clip55.dv in QuickTime and looked at MovieInspector, but I could not see any capture date (similar to exif in jpegs).
So obviously I missed them. My question is where in the iMovie 06 project can I find them?   If accessible, I can write a script to fix the clips imported in iMovie11 by changing their names. I tried it manually, and it worked.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi - Couple of things.
Click on the offending clip that you imported from iMovie in your FCP Bin and type Command + 9 to see the item properties. Either report those item properties, or if easier, take a screen shot of the item properties and post that.
Then click any where on the timeline you are having trouble with and type Command + 0 (Zero) to see the sequence settings. Either report those settings or take a screen shot of the Sequence Settings window and post that.
In order for FCP to use the video without rendering, both the items properties of the source clip, and the sequence settings must match - and both must be within standard production parameters.
Also, you can click on the source clip in the FCP Bin, then control-click on the clip and select Reveal in Finder from the drop down menu. Once that file is revealed, open it in Quicktime 7 and see if if plays correctly there.
    Hope this helps.
