Ordered 15" Macbook Pro Retina from AAFES/backordered from vendor

Just wanted to kow if anyone has had this or similar issue ordering from the AAFES (Army Air Force Exchange Service) online store. Follows is my situation and the frustration I am currently experiencing. If anyone can give my some feedback or insight, I would appreciate it because I am getting nowhere with AAFES and I am at my wit's end. Who exactly is the "vendor" for AAFES and why would a Macbook Pro be on backorder for over a month?
I ordered the 15" MBP w/Retina display, Intel Core i7, 2.6GHz, 512GB on 26 October and was given an estimated ship date of 2 November. I also ordered an external drive and Apple Care. The first issue was that the external drive I ordered was no longer available from Apple and I never received any word from AAFES until I contacted them when the "estimated" ship date had come and gone. Then, after extensive email traffic to and from service reps with AAFES, I finally was informed that the MBP was backordered until 26 November. Long story short, after the "estimated" ship date has changed three times, I am now being told that the MBP is backordered until 3 December. I am a deployed US Soldier in Afghanistan and in addition to the inconvenience of not having a working computer to commuicate back home and the fact that the shipment of anything with lithium batteries has been banned, I have had to do business with AAFES knowing that they are notorious for horrendous customer service, but they are the only company that can get me a computer that is close to what I want here to an APO address. To date, AAFES has had my 2700+ dollars for over a month and I can get no clear answer to when I will receive my MBP or if the backorder date will continue to move further into December. Does ANYONE know who their "vendor" is and a way to know why this item is backordered?

Hey there Ian.S,
It sounds like you would like to know now to transfer your data from one MacBook to another. You can indeed use a Time Machine backup to transfer the data, and there are a couple of other options as well when using the Migration Assistant. This article will help you determine the best option for you, and walk you through the process:
OS X: How to migrate data from another Mac using Mavericks

  • Can I special order a MacBook Pro with Western Spanish keyboard from a US retail store?

I'm going to the US for the holidays this year (I live in Europe), and want to buy a MacBook Pro there since it's around $500 cheaper. I know people can order a product online and have it delivered at a Mac Store, but I don't have a US billing address, so that won't be possible. Do you guys know if I can go to the store, tell them what I want, pay them with my European debit card, and pick it up a couple of days later? Or do I forcefully need a US credit card to special order a customized machine?
    Thanks!

It's difficult to find a MacBook Pro with a US keyboard on a physical shop, but you should be able to order it at the Apple Online Store > http://store.apple.com/se
If you can't order a MacBook Pro with a US keyboard from the Apple Online Store, call Apple and try to order it. Note that the delivery may be longer

  • Can i order a macbook pro retina with a german keyboard?

    Hey,
I'd like to know if it is possible to order a MacBook Pro with Retina display with a german keyboard?
And if its possible is it only possible to buy it in the online store or can i pick it up at a retail store?
    Greetings Hannes

    Hannes,
for the Apple Online Store, it depends upon which country you’re in — the German keyboard is an available option only in some countries. You can visit the Apple Online Store for your country, select the MacBook Pro model that you’re interested in, and see if a German keyboard is offered for it on the configuration page.
If you’re not in a country with a majority German-speaking population, you should call your closest Apple Retail Store to see if they can special-order one for you.

  • Macbook Pro Retina 2013 not waking from sleep

    Hi all,
My brand new 15" Retina Macbook Pro (late 2013) is not waking from sleep. It doesn't occur after a short sleep (as I can wake it as normal by moving my mouse), but if the sleep is for some extended duration (not exactly sure, but at least within a couple of hours) then the only way to wake it is to use the power button.
I've tried an SMC reset to no avail -- the problem still occurs.
It's plugged into a power adapter and this is a screenshot of the settings page.
This is a very annoying issue. I'm hoping someone can help?
    Thanks!
    Adam

I managed to narrow down and reproduce the issue:
It occurs when the 'turn display off after' time lapses. Eg, if I change the setting to 1 minute and wait for the display to turn off, the computer will *not* wake up without pressing the power button.
Very strange. Hoping someone can provide some insight!
    Thanks,
    Adam

  • Macbook Pro Retina freezes on wake from sleep

Ever since the Mavericks 10.9.2 update my computer "freezes" on waking up from sleep. Each time I wake it up I require a password immediately, and about once a day (out of 5-7 times that I wake it up) I will put in my password, the password field becomes grayed out, acknowledging that I hit return, and then does nothing. It doesn't become unresponsive (I can still move the mouse), but the computer doesn't unlock.
I left it sitting like this for 30 minutes one time and it just sat on this screen. If I put it back to sleep or shut the shell and try to log in again it does the same thing.
The only way to resolve (that I've found) is to do a hard shutdown, which has led to the loss of some unsaved work.
Doing a hard reset once (sometimes twice or three times) a day is pretty frustrating. Is anyone else experiencing this problem and has anyone found a fix?

One other thing I noticed that could or could not be the problem but is sure curious is the option in the Energy Saver control pane for automaticly dimming the screen before sleep. I first noticed when I got my MacBook Pro that this option was enabled without it be marked as on. I checkmarked it then unchecked it again and the screen did not appear to dim before sleep anymore. However, since the last kernel panic on Monday, I have reenabled the option thinking it could possibly be this. It's kind of far fetched I know, but my system has been stable for past 2 days so perhaps this software flaw in the Energy Saver is the blame. Sort of makes sense since this timmer for dimming is activated before sleep of the display which might corrispond with some part of the sleep/wake system of the computer and/or Mac OS X. Later, I am going to try turning the dimmer off and cycling the computer from sleep to wake and see if I get a panic. I'll keep everyone posted as to my results.

  • Macbook Pro Retina Slow Wake Up from sleep

Hi, my 13-in MacBook Pro is the late 2013 version installed with OS X Mavericks 10.9.4.
I have noticed that ever since I upgraded my OS from 10.9.3 to my current one, whenever my MBP goes to sleep (standby mode) and when I want to continue using it, swiping my fingers across the trackpad will bring the cursor back on but on a BLACK blank screen. It will then take about another 15-20 seconds before my screen comes back on. It is irritating especially when I am rushing my work.
On the other hand, pressing any key on my keyboard brings it right back to my start screen.
Is it a problem with the OS or just my MBP?

Yeah I've had this problem too, unfortunately there's no way round it but to wait a few seconds after it goes to sleep before touching the trackpad or the keyboard.

  • Can I order a MacBook Pro retina with a Danish keyboard in a US applestore?

    Hello,
Is it possible to order a MacBook for pickup in a US apple store with a foreign (Danish) keyboard? I see no option on the homepage, and can't chat with support, since I’m located outside the US.
I want to order and pay in advance and then pick it up when I visit the US, since it's about 20% cheaper that way.
If this is possible what is the correct procedure?
    Thanks in advance.

You may have to declare the machine upon return in and frequently there is a value added tax for doing so.
You might be able to purchase the machine by phone when you enter the states.  The store is available by a tollfree number when you are in the states.     But you are correct while in the U.S. the online store only offers the two most common keyboards for the market.  There are ways of making the Danish characters with the English keyboard with certain Option keyboard commands though.   That may just be simpler.  Or you can always buy an external keyboard in Denmark when you return.  Macs accept most USB keyboards.  Logitech and Microsoft both make good Mac compatible keyboards.

  • When I ordered my MacBook Pro (Retina Display late 2013) my order had said that the computer would come with an accessory kit but instead it came with a country kit. What is a country kit and why was the accessory kit exchanged with it?

Somehow when they were processing my order the accessory kit changed Into a country.

Contact the place where you purchased the MBP & ask them.

  • Late 2013 MacBook Pro Retina No Longer Resumes From Standby

Bought my MBP with Retina Display four weeks ago. Its been working fine. Closed the lid last night and when I opened it this morning ... nothing ... dead as a dodo. Battery was not flat as it was plugged into mains power overnight - quality surge suppressor power board. Any tips ... or is it just dead? There is some battery discharge ... when I leave it open and then plug the magsafe back in the LED goes amber for a while.

The warranty entitles you to complimentary phone support for the first 90 days of ownership.

  • Can't update from 10.8 to 10.8.2 on Macbook Pro Retina 15" (restored from old Macbook Pro 13")

So I bought the new Macbook Pro Retina 15" and restored from my Macbook Pro 13".  Everything is good except that when I go to AppStore to update other Apps it says I need the latest 10.8.2 update but that doesnt' even show up.  Is there some new update coming out soon that will resolve my problem?

If the 10.8.3 comes out and I can't update it from the AppStore, then I'll try your original method you wrote "
Boot to the Recovery HD partition, Command+r at startup, and select Reinstall Mac OS"
But with that method, do I keep everything or will I lose everything?  If it keeps it, I can do that right now then.
    Thanks!!!

  • Macbook Pro Retina - Adobe Blurred Text

Hi, I have purchased a Macbook Pro with retina display.  When I use Adobe Acrobat pro the text is blurred.  Does anyone know a solution to this problem?

I've been reading the reviews etc, and looked at the Adobe forums, but I've not found that much main info.
Basically from all the reviews I have read, everyone thinks it's an excellent machine, and the Retina is great. Adobe's UI in CS6 apparently looks a bit blurry, but hopefully Adobe will fix this, and it's perfectly usable anyway.
Check out the Verge's review: http://www.theverge.com/2012/6/13/3082649/macbook-pro-review-retina-display-15-i nch
I've decided just to go for it, and ordered a Macbook Pro Retina, 2.3ghz with the extra 16gb Ram. My usual setup at my studio at work (I'm a freelance Illustrator and animator) is hooking my current 2009 MBP to my 20" Cinema Display.
Since I walk to work the slimmer design will be great, and if Adobe's programs are a bit dodgy on the retina display, it won't matter too much when I'm using my Cinema Display. It might make my display look old, but I'll probably upgrade that and get a 27" display in the future.
The retina display will be a nice addition for surfing the web etc.
Now if only Apple would release a non glassy cinema display again... Apple? : )
I hope that helps from my point of view.

  • Macbook Pro Retina and Adobe cs6

    HI!
I'm pretty much ready to buy a Macbook Pro Retina and buy the adobe cs cloud too. I know Photoshop is to be updated to Retina, but I've not heard anything regarding Illustrator and After Effects.
My questiom is this: Does anyone know how non Retina compatible software, specifically cs6 or cs5 looks? I've read Engadget's review, which is very positive. However, they say non compatible programs look bad - blurry text etc.
Had anyone managed to get one yet, and whats your view with Adobes apps?
Everything else sounds ace (apart from the waiting times)!
    Many thanks!

  • Macbook Pro Retina Samsung vs. LG display

I've been reading posts with people talking about the Macbook Pro Retinas coming with either Samsung or LG displays and have heard that the majority of LG displays are faulty while the Samsung versions are perfect. What is the deal with that?
I ordered my Macbook Pro Retina on Aug. 10 and am wondering if Apple already fixed this issue and might be shipping only Samsung models? or is it still 50/50 chance of getting either LG or Samsung?
I know I'm not the only one spending a ton of money on this machine but it doesn't seem fair that someone people get the faulty LGs and others get the Samsung. Has anyone tried calling Apple and seeing if they can request the Samsung version? not sure if that's possible but maybe worth a shot?
    Thanks!

So are the macbook pro retina early 2013 version with LG panel having IR issue?
Mine hasn't yet but time may tell. At the same time I asked a question on the endless IR thread and never got an answer: to what extent is how the rMBP being used driving image retention?
I'm sure there are other variables but the one that comes to mind first is how bright is the screen run? I would imagine that a monitor set to full brightness (as one user who complained about IR did) would accelerate any tendency toward IR and the closer to "full-on" it's set, the sooner that would happen. I have mine set to "5" of the available range and for the first week, I ran the Image Retention Test in all its variations repeatedly without a hint of IR. We also don't know whether the LG at full brightness can illuminate an auditorium while the Samsung can only light up a room or vice-versa.
Other variables could be: is the screen saver used; how long before it kicks in; is the rMBP the only computer so it's used constantly; is it ever powered off or is the monitor just allowed to sleep?
Based on those thousands of posts, the original LG's appear to be more prone to IR than the Samsung, but there hasn't been the same flood of complaints with the LG SJA2's, at least not yet. At the same time, there hasn't been any attention I could find about contributing factors either.
And notably,  way back when the Samsung started to be the Holy Grail, I don't remember complaints about color problems; that seems to have cropped up recently.

  • Order a Macbook Pro with a different Keyboard layout?

In a Swedish, I want to order a Macbook Pro with an US or UK keyboard layout. The Swedish one is very different. Note that I am aware that I can change the keyboard language settings in preferences but this will obviously not change the layout of the actual keyboard.
By some reason, there seem to be numerous threads all over the net about this particular issue but with no definite answer, which is certainly odd considering that the question is simple. So let's solve this mystery once and for all.
Is there an official word on this? Is it possible?
