Ordered AirPort Extreme

A few days ago, I believe on Tuesday night, I ordered an AirPort Extreme. Although after purchasing it online at Apple.com and Apple telling me it is a confirmed purchase, I cannot see my order status of this product. Is this a bug or did it really not confirm? It is supposed to be here tomorrow afternoon, however, things may change, considering the fact that it's happened many time to me before.
Thanks,

Thanks my question was answered. I see that Apple can't get my order complete when it told me my order was confirmed. I really love Apple and their amazing support, but this is a disappointment.

  • Ordered the Airport Extreme Base Station - some questions if you can help?

I have a Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit IBM ThinkPad T500 laptop I need to connect, and a Windows Vista PC. The ThinkPad has a built-in wirless N card and the Vista has a Belkin N+ USB wireless adapter. Can these both find and connect to the Airport without me installing any software (Bonjour etc) on them?
Since they are using the N+ wireless cards, will they connect to the Airport at 2GHZ or 5GHZ speed? If they can connect at either speed, what controls that?
I also have a MACPro desktop. I was hoping to configure my airport using it and hoped not to have to worry about configuring the other 2 pcs.
My old router was a Belkin n+ 2GHz router. Could I use that router as a repeater with the Airport. How can I do that?
Thanks for any help on these questions.

    Welcome to the discussions, Michael!
I can't help on your Windows / PC related questions, but can offer some input on the last two questions.
+"I also have a MACPro desktop. I was hoping to configure my airport using it and hoped not to have to worry about configuring the other 2 pcs."+
You will use AirPort Utility to configure the AirPort Extreme. It should already be on your Mac. Check Hard Drive > Applications > Utilties > AirPort Utility. This will also come on the installation CD.
+"My old router was a Belkin n+ 2GHz router. Could I use that router as a repeater with the Airport. How can I do that?"+
In order to "extend" a wireless network created by the AirPort Extreme(n), you would need another AirPort Extreme, an AirPort Express, or a Time Capsule. The Belkin would not be compatible with an Apple base station for this purpose.
If you connected an ethernet cable from the AirPort Extreme or used a pair of ethernet powerline adapters, then you could possibly configure the Belkin to create a wireless network, but unless it was 5 GHz capable, you would not be able to mimic the 5 GHz "main" network that the Extreme would be creating.

  • Does my modem need to support 5G in order to make use of the 5G characteristics of my AirPort Extreme?

    Hi,
I have a Fritzbox 7360 router which does not support 5G. I have also bought an Airport Extreme and uses this in bridge modus. So the Fritzbox only serves as a modem. The modem does not support 5G however, do I need to have different type of modem in order to optimally make use of the 5G characteristics of the Airport Extreme?
    Thanks

do I need to have different type of modem in order to optimally make use of the 5G characteristics of the Airport Extreme?
    No

  • I have an Airport Extreme and need to open ports in order to view my CCTV system remotely.  How am I able to do this?

I have an Airport Extreme and need to open ports in order to view my CCTV system remotely.  How am I able to do this?  The company that supports the system says I need to open the following - 8200, 8016, 8116, 10019, 12088.  All help is appreciated.

Open AirPort Utility on the PC, select the Airport Extreme and click Manual Setup
    Click the Advanced icon
    Click the Port Mapping tab
Click the + (plus) button at the bottom of the connection list to set things up
Reference pages 49-51 in the Apple AirPort Networks guide for more info
IF.....you do not see a Port Mapping tab when you click the Advanced icon, then that would mean that the AirPort Extreme is in Bridge Mode and the main routing functions for the network are being provided by another device.
You will need to set up the port mapping on that device, which is likely your modem/router or gateway.

  • HT4260 Airport extreme and time capsule connection order in a roaming network

I plan to create a roaming network with my current Airport Extreme as the primary device connected to the internet and the new Time Capsule as the secondary device in Bridge mode. The connection between AE and TC will be wired (ethernet). Then I plan to connect the PC that needs backing up to the Time Capsule with an ethernet cable. Apart from the PC-backup functionality, I'd like to use the Time Capsule as a central NAS-device in my network. All other wired network devices that need access to the NAS (Apple TV, Xtreamer) are currently connected to the primary Airport Extreme with ethernet cables. My question: is there any reason why I should consider reversing the setup order, i.e. making the Time Capsule the primary device connected to the internet and the Airport Extreme the secondary device? Would this have a positive or negative effect on Time Capsule functionality and performance in the network? Thanks in advance for your thoughts!

Your Gen3 Extreme and all TC are gigabit.. as long as you connect with the required standard cable to have a gigabit connection between the two, there will effectively be no difference. In a home network you will struggle to saturate gigabit no matter what you do. Although the difference between the two configurations is really very small.
General rule is keep whatever is using the highest bandwidth closest and directly connected to whatever it is using.. shrug.. in this case you can follow or not.. it is more a guideline.

  • How does one sync the new time capsule with the old airport extreme and airport express in order to extend range?

How does one sync the new time capsule with the old airport extreme and airport express in order to extend range?

    Thanks for the additional information.
Unfortunately, the AirPort Utility application in the Lion and Mountain Lion operating systems, which is used to configure the new Time Capsule does not support the older versions of the products that you have.
Even if it did, there are no settings on the older AirPorts to "Extend a wireless network", so they are not compatible with the new Time Capsule if you intend to extend the network only using wireless connections.
If you have the ability to connect each AirPort to the Time Capsule using a permanent wired Ethernet cable connection, it might be possible to use a complicated workaround to install an older version of AirPort Utility to configure the older AirPorts to work with the new Time Capsule.
If you have another Mac there that is using the Leopard or Snow Leoapard operating system, things would likely be simpler. I have not done this type of procedure to mix a new Time Capsule with older AirPorts, so I would not be able to say whether this would work or not.

  • I have a brand new airport extreme. I just ordered a WD My Book Studio 2TB Mac External Hard Drive Storage USB 3.0 Can I partition this and use one 1tb as a time capsule and 1tb on my desktop of my mac as a wireless hard drive? If so how?

    How would I do this?

To partition the WD My Book, you could temporarily connect it to your MacBook Pro via USB. Then use the Disk Utility to partition it into two separate partitions of whatever size you choose for each.
Once partitioned and formatted (I would recommend HFS+), you can then disconnect the drive from the MacBook Pro and attach it to the new AirPort Extreme. The Extreme should now "see" the drive as two separate drives. You would then use the AirPort Utility to share out both drives.
For Time Machine, you would just need to select the appropriate shared drive.

  • Installing Airport Utility 5.6.1 in order to configure older Airport Extreme/g model doesn't work as it won't install with OS 10.8.5 Mountain Lion. Solution?

I need to configure Airport Extreme Base Station 802.11b/g but Airport Utility 6.3.1 will not work.
    I found this page:  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5022
it recommends installing Airport Utility 5.6 which downloads as 5.6.1
but it will not install on Mountain Lion OS 10.8.5
    so what to do?

AirPort Utility 5.6.1 is for Snow Leopard. Use 5.6 for Lion or Mountain Lion.
You can use the following workaround to install AirPort Utility 5.6 on a Lion or Mountain Lion Mac:
Be sure to read the caveats at the end.
Lion / Mountain Lion's package installer will refuse to install superseded versions of AirPort Utility. Instead you will need to use a package extractor such as Pacifist or unpkg. Pacifist is shareware, unpkg is free.
    Download Pacifist here: http://www.charlessoft.com/
    Download unpkg here: http://www.timdoug.com/unpkg/
Download AirPort Utility 5.6 here: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1482
When the AirPort Utility .dmg file finishes downloading, open it to expand and reveal the AirPortUtility56.pkg package installer file.
Directions for Pacifist (I do not have screenshots for unpkg but the idea is similar):
Open Pacifist and from its File menu, navigate to the package and open it.
Click the "reveal triangles" until you see AirPort Utility 5.6.app:
Select it and then click Install from Pacifist's toolbar. It will then be installed in your Utilities folder, and you can quit Pacifist.
The most recent version of AirPort Utility included with Mountain Lion should be used to configure 802.11n - capable AirPort Base Stations. Make no attempt to delete it. It and the older version (which will bear the unique name "AirPort Utility 5.6") can peacefully coexist. Use the older version only as necessary for older AirPort Base Stations that cannot be administered any other way.
If you happen to have an archived copy of the AU 5.6 app somewhere, such as a Time Machine backup or equivalent, you can simply restore it or drag the app to your Mountain Lion system's Utilities folder instead of resorting to the above procedure. It will run without complaint. It is only the package installer that is the problem.
Keep in mind that Apple's decision to abandon support for the original AirPort Express and AEBS was for reasons known only to them. Remember that you are using obsolete equipment, should some future OS X feature not work for you.

  • On a network with multiple airports (extreme, express, + time capsule), do they all have to be "guest" capable devices in order to offer guest networking?

Here's the situation: I have three older devices:
    a1254 Time Capsule
    a1134 airport extreme
    a1264 express
none of these support guest networking, according to Apple. If I add a newer Extreme (3rd gen or higher) that support guest networks, will that be possible to offer to guests within range of the Extreme, -OR- do I have to upgrade my entire network of Apple wifi devices? Help appreciated, esp if you have such a setup. thanks!

The problem here is guest network only works if the Apple Router is indeed the main router.. you cannot setup guest network on a bridged router. Although it appears you can, it doesn't actually work.
You could modify the network setup..
Use one device dedicated to a secondary guest network. This would actually work better than using guest but you should have some way to prevent access to computers from guest.. that may be easy or hard depending on the modem you are using.

  • Safely uninstall Airport Extreme software in order to do a reinstall ?

I've messed up my encryption so although I have connection between my iMac and my Airport Extreme, I cannot connect with the Internet via my cable modem. I've tried various approaches, but I think I could solve it by uninstalling the Airport Extreme software and reinstalling it again-- does this seem feasible? If so, do I simply drag the icons out of Utilities and dump them in Trash?

The state of your wireless encryption is unrelated to the problem of the AEBS(n) being unable to communicate with your cable modem. No need to try to uninstall anything; besides, all you can easily uninstall is the Airport Utility by dragging it to the trash.
Use Airport Utility to check that you have properly configured the AEBS(n) Internet connection. For a cable modem, this is usually like this:
    Connect using: Ethernet
    Configure IPv4: Using DHCP
Connection sharing: Share a public IP address
What do you see on this panel for your Internet IP Address?
If the settings are OK, then power off both the AEBS and your cable modem for perhaps 10 minutes, then power up the cable modem, finally the AEBS

  • TS4597 AirPort base station not seen or "An unexpected error occurred" appears in AirPort Utility 6.3 - It did the above steps and cannot get airport utility to allow access to the Airport extreme in order to reconfigure please help

I tried following the article's instructions by going into System Preferences / Network and changing the configure ipv6 tab to Link local only and I STILL am getting the same error. Can someone please advise how to get this ariport extreme back online and configured

I'm in a frustrating predicament with this error, so if folks have any suggestions, that would be greatly appreciated...
A few days ago my internet stopped working as best i know out of the blue (3rd gen Airport Extreme with a couple iPhones, iPad, Apple TV's, Mac's (one with Mavericks) on it).  In trying to fix it, I powered down everything and reset the router.  When the router is initializing (seen through the Airport utility), the internet starts working again on the Mac in which I'm running the Airport utility. (a browser in background loads a previously unloadable webpage).  I'm then left with a screen where the Airport utility is waiting for me to enter set-up info:
If I leave the Airport Utility in this state and don't hit next, my internet works fine on my Mac.  If I set-up this info, however, my internet no longer works (in Airport Utility the Internet globe has a orange circle saying internet disconnected) and I get a screen saying "An unexpected error occured.  Try again."  I've tried toggling a number of router settings, restarting the router, but nothing seems to fix it.
I've taken the router to Apple, where they were able to create a network fine with the router.  I also bought a new AE router, and tried an old AE express router, but all attempts get the same error.  I've also tried using the iOS Airport utility, but that doesn't seem to help.  I've tried the older version (5.6) of Airport Utility run on a non-Mavericks Mac, but that didn't help.
I had a ISP technician come out, but they basically said the plug (we don't have a modem, but just a ethernet plug in our apartment)  in which you're getting the internet from us is working, and it's your router.  They're diagnostics said the router is 'throwing off a bunch of errors.'  That being said, they've confirmed the setting on the AE are okay (as far as they know...).
Any thoughts here?  I'm not especially network-proficient, but searching around has pointed me to potential issues with mavericks, IPv6, and the latest version of the Airport Utility.
    I'm desperate - please help!
    Much thanks in advance.

  • Connecting HDD to Airport Extreme causes orange death light...

I am in a small office network with mix of pc and mac (7 pc's, 1 iMac, 1 wireless iMac, and 3 wireless macbook pro's). Internet connection comes into building directly to airport. Airport then feeds a couple of systems directly and a Dlink 24port ethernet switch which connects all other hardwired network connections.
I just purchased a Seagate Freeagent Desk 1.5TB external USB2 drive to be used as a network storage drive (not with time machine just grabbing and dumping files for interoffice sharing). Removed preloaded software and formatted fat32. Disk will be mounted and recognized when connected to any mac directly. When connected to the usb port on the airport extreme it begins to initialize and then bombs. Airport gives the orange death light and there is no connectivity to the router for all (ie internet connection, etc.) When you unglug the HDD the router reboots and then goes back to green light of peacefulness. What am I missing? Setting? Order of connection? Not hitting it hard enough on the ground with a large 10lb sledge hammer? Help me out...

you may need to restart the AEBSn with the drive plugged in.
since it might have been long since the AEBSn was restarted and anything else attached to it.
or a restore to factory settings...
i know not the best you want to hear, it should just work.
make sure all the AEBSn updates are there...etcetc
i was having this problem the past month or so and it started working again flawlessly after a few restarts.

  • How do I configure port forwarding on Airport Extreme via Win 7/64?

    Hello all,
I'm trying to forward some ports in order to correct issues with setting up servers for video games, i.e. I can connect but another can't while yet another can connect fine, etc. So far, despite thorough Google searching, I have not been able to find a solution that matches my exact problem.
The specific ports I want to forward are 7777 and 25565. Currently, my connection is through Northstate Communications using an ADSL modem/router (Zhone Model No. 6218-I2-200-0NS) hooked up to an Airport Express + Time Capsule (Model No. A1254, version 7.5.2). As far as I know, the only reason the Airport Extreme is there is for the time capsule, but I don't know for sure whether my computer is actually connecting to the internet through one or through the other. I didn't set it up originally, unfortunately.
I currently can't edit the settings for the Zhone. Supposedly, typing 192.0.0.1 into the address bar of my web browser should open the router configuration utility, but instead it returns "Oops! Google Chrome could not find <address>." I can, however, use the AirPort Utility for Windows to edit all of the AirPort's settings. I have followed the instructions in this YouTube video to forward the port 7777 using the AirPort Utility: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OFad6NvddRk but changes I make to Advanced/Port Mapping apparently do not work because www.whatsmyip.org and www.canyouseeme.org report that a test of port 7777 is either timing out or unavailable, respectively.
I am concerned that the IP address automatically provided for me when I create a new port mapping is not the correct IP address since it is 10.x.x.x, which I can't find anywhere in any settings on the computer or online. But, when I type in the IP address I get from www.whatsmyip.org (97.x.x.x) and then go back to edit the setting I created, it has apparently reverted to 10.x.x.x without saving the address I entered.
So, what am I doing wrong? Do I need to change some settings in the Zhone router before it will work, and if so, how can I access it? What is the 10.x.x.x address that the AirPort Utility assigns to new port mappings by default? Since I intend to use Hamachi to host the game server, do I need to use the IP address given to me by that program (5.x.x.x) instead? As far as I can determine, all my drivers are up to date. Any assistance would be much appreciated. Other system specs given below:
CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 945 3.00 GHz
    MB: MSI 790FX-GD70 AM3 AMD
    RAM: Corsair Dominator 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM 1600 (PC3 12800)
    Mushkin Enhanced Blackline 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM 1333 (PC3 10666)
    GPU:  Sapphire 100258-1GHDMI Radeon HD 4850 1GB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16
Wireless: AZiO AWD102N PCI Wireless Adapter
    OS: Windows 7 64-bit
    -R

Thanks for your response. I attempted to do that, but I couldn't find any way to access the configuration for the Zhone router. Typing the IP address into my web browser's address bar only resulted in "page could not be found" or "page timed out", etc. I called tech support at Northstate, who likewise suggested that the Zhone router should be set to bridge mode and the AEBS set to router mode since it would be easier for me to configure the AirPort. After wrangling a bit with them over my inability to change any settings for the Zhone, they sent a technician over. He messed around with the Zhone, apparently putting it in bridge mode, and we managed to get the AirPort to work without any double NAT errors. I reset the AirPort and created a new configuration file. Unfortunately, when I went to the Advanced/Port Mapping menu and repeated the original steps to forward port 7777, tests at www.whatsmyip.org still returned "timed out". The technician said he wasn't knowledgable enough about Apple products to assist me any further and suggested I call their tech support or visit the nearest Genius Bar. So that's about it. Any other ideas?

  • How can I use my airport extreme to connect a windows machine to the internet? I don't have the software disks anymore...

I no longer have any disks for my airport extreme (its pre-time capsule)... how can I connect my windows machine to it in order to get to the internet?

You can directly download the AirPort Utility for Windows from Apple Support here.
Once the AirPort Extreme is properly configured for Internet access you can connect your PC to the Extreme either by a wired or wireless connection.

  • How do I set up Airport Extreme with cable modem and router?

    Hi--
I'm having a house built and all of the wiring for TV, phone, and internet will be centralized in a closet. The cable modem can be placed there as well. In one room in the basement I want to use my Airport Extreme for my iMac and USB external hard drives. In another location of the basement, I'd like to set up a Time Capsule for another desktop and USB printer. If the cat5e comes out of the wall at each location, I "think" I need a router at the closet location. I also thought I might need an Airport Express upstairs on first or second floor to boost signal for my laptop. The house isn't that big so maybe that's overkill. So beyond the router question, do I want to set up a roaming network and have the Airport Express connected via ethernet or just wireless if the thought is that I need this? Finally, if I should connect cable modem to router to Airport Extreme, Time Capsule, etc., in what order and ports does the equipment get connected? Many thanks!!

Welcome to the discussions, Forum Girl!
It would be best to position the cable modem and main router in the central location like the closet if possible. The other devices would connect via ethernet to the wall jacks in each room.
If you could setup a "roaming" wireless network as you mention, this will give you better wireless performance and coverage. This is the way commercial establishments like airports, businesses, etc. are configured for wireless.
The order of connection would go something like this: ethernet connection > cable modem >main router>devices. Devices could be computers, routers, a backup device, etc. Since the Extreme has only 3 LAN ports for ethernet connections, you will also need to plan to install an "ethernet switch" near the location of the main router to provide enough ethernet jacks. If you are planning to use DirectTV, etc or your audio/video devices require ethernet connections (most new products do for updates and extra features), be sure to plan for that as well.
Make sure that CAT5e or CAT6 wiring is run so you will be able to take advantage of faster gigabit speeds.
Finally, it would be a good idea to work with an IT specialist to go over your plans to make sure all the bases are covered. This would be money well spent.
