Ordered refurbished MBP - no software discs included

Hello,
I just ordered a refurbished MBP from Apple.com and it came with no software discs, which I have always gotten when I purchased Apple products in the past. I contacted Apple Support and they said they no longer ship system restore discs anymore, which seemed strange to me.
I am wondering if I should pursue this issue further, and if I cannot get any software discs, what are my options in case I need to do a restore, etc.?
Thanks!

OK. What do you do if you are adding an aftermarket harddrive (replacing 500mb stock drive with 1TB drive)? Don't tell me I have to put the 500MB one in an external enclosure and boot from that and somehow install Lion on the 1TB drive and then upgrade it to Mountain Lion using my upgrade password and content code?

OS X Internet Recovery
If you happen to encounter a situation in which you cannot start from the Recovery System, such as your hard drive stopped responding or you installed a new hard drive without OS X installed, new Mac models introduced after public availability of OS X Lion or OS X Mountain Lion, automatically use the OS X Internet Recovery feature if the Recovery System (Command-R method above) doesn't work. OS X Internet Recovery lets you start your Mac directly from Apple's Servers. The system runs a quick test of your memory and hard drive to ensure there are no hardware issues.
OS X Internet Recovery presents a limited interface at first, with only the ability to select your preferred Wi-Fi network and, if needed, enter the WPA passphrase. Next, OS X Internet Recovery will download and start from a Recovery System image. From there, you are offered all the same utilities and functions described above.

  • Mac Pro DVD drive won't load some software discs

I just bought two sets of Photoshop Elements, and my 2007 Mac Pro failed to recognize all six DVDs. I'm realizing I've had this problem with a few software discs in recent years, including some Final Cut Studio install discs. CDs and regular DVDs work fine - just some software DVDs are eventually ejected by the computer without showing up on the desktop. I have tried cleaning the drive with a disc cleaner.
My way around it has been to put these discs in my PC, make a copy, and then these copies load fine in my Mac. But it's a nuisance, and my PC won't be around forever.
Can anyone suggest what the problem might be? Or a decent external drive (Blu-ray?) that I might want to replace it with?
    Thanks.

I'll try that tomorrow. Thinking it could also be:
    1)  The PRAMM battery. found info on that they can wear out close to 5 years. This MAC PRO is close to that now.  And I use a lot of power on it.
    2) MAC PRO is plugged into a  SURGE PROTECTOR, instead of right into the wall outlet.
    3) Been doing a lot of FORCE QUITS and HARD BOOT -- unplugging it directly when it wouldn't shut down soon enough --  lately this past year.
I just assumed that this MAC PRO with the XEON QUAD CORE etc., was a heavy duty enough NLE,
that i wouldn't have these problems. It's not fully loaded with all the chips it can carry...and I don't have near enough external terabyte hard drives for storing video and audio files to edit. I've been storing wayyy too much
on the internal hard dives and just have to stop that.
I noticed these past few days that much of the LETTERING for hard drive icons and folders' titles
were starting to look in OVERLAPPING of the lettering. That was my first hint that  something was up.

  • IPhoto wont install from mac mini original software discs

    1.25Ghz G4 mini, 512MB RAM
Install discs are original mini disks ver. 10.3.7
    w/ Xcode installed
upgraded via System update to 10.3.9
as installed by apple everything worked ok, but due to some system issues I had to reformat drive, and reinstall. iPhoto seems to have installed (at least there's an icon for it, and a window opens when icon is double clicked), but it will immediately quit when launched with an error that it is missing files it needs, and to reinstall from the iLife discs.
    There was not a separate iLife disc included with the mini just the install DVD, and the OS 9 disc. The error doesn't say what files are missing, but a quick visit to the Console shows the following;
    "iPhoto[384] Can't find ImageIO!"
I have tried reinstalling several times since, installing iPhoto only, all bundled software, and full reformat/reinstall, all with the same results. It seems that the install disc I got was faulty, and won't properly install the bundled software.
Is there any way to get just the missing ImageIO? From this website, or just some helpful poster?

  • No software discs with new Macbook

I did not receive any software discs with my new MacBook. I understand I should have had 2 discs. How can I remedy this?

    Welcome to the discussions!
Apple provides restore disks with all Macs - new and refurbished. I bought a refurb and my packaging was different from yours, but I understand that they are hidden in the packaging. Double-check in the packing materials so be sure that the disks are not hidden in there.
If for some reason they were left out, by all means call Apple and they will take care of it.

  • Colour Pearl w/o Software Disc

*I'm trying to get colour pearl for my 8100 because my trackball appears to be a little discolored & its really ugly.
*I DO NOT have the software disc for my BB.
*Can someone help me out by telling me what software I need to download of the BB website.
*I don't have any apps downloaded (I don't even have the desktop manager b/c I didn't know which one to choose).
    Thanks,

Here's an OTA link to Blingball (you need to be running OS 4.5 for it to work it looks like. I've copied the warning from the post as well:
    BlingBall 0.9b2.
WARNING: This is for the BlackBerry Pearl 8100 with 4.5 OS only. This application is only supported on 4.5 OS. Some have reported that it does, in fact, work in OS 4.2, though. This application will do nothing for you if you have an 8110, 8120, or 8130 as those devices do not have the polychromatic trackball.
NOTICE: This application is beta and has only been tested on a very small number of devices.
    LINK: http://www.troybrownpc.com/blingball.jad
EDIT: in order to change the Trackball color or set it to "Disco" which flashes all the colors in Sequence go to Options->BlingBall Options and you'll be able to set it from there. There is a custom color option but I didn't play with that yet.

  • How do I go about getting the product serial number to register my product as well as install my product.  I bought it with a product box.  On the software disc sleeve, there is a series of numbers pasted at the bottom of the sleeves but this is not valid

How do I go about getting the product serial number to register my product as well as install my product.  I bought it with a product box.  On the software disc sleeve, there is a series of numbers pasted at the bottom of the sleeves but this is not valid.  When I tried to type this in for registration, it does register as this numbers also contain letters in it.  Apparently the registration boxes accept numbers only.  What do I do with a useless product for which I have paid good money for it?????

This is the simple solution which was offered to me when I tried to get the serial code on line.
The box and disc sleeve do not contain a series with 24 numbers which I presume is the product code to install.
I tried to redeem the registration code by following what they recommended, but inevitably it gets to the page that showed the registration boxes that need 24 serial numbers and I got stuck again.
This product is so different what my previous experiences of other software products where I just enter the serial number straight from the disc sleeve and then I got registered and go on to use the software.
I is really frustrating, spending the last two hours trying to get my product going....

  • Qosmio G20 - Missing software discs

I have a Qosmio G20 that has had the hard drives wiped due to a virus.
To reinstall software a disc is required that I seem to have misplaced. Apparently Toshiba no longer keeps a copy of this disc as it is an old model. I was wondering if anyone could help me out with this problem? I think it is a software recoverd dvd-rom as according to the user manual this is the only software disc that came with the computer.
    Thanks

    Hi
Do you mean a software disk where you can find additional software or the disk with the OS?
Normally for this older notebook you can get a recovery disk from an authorized service provider. It takes only few minutes to ask for this.
Furthermore on the Toshiba website you can search for the nearest authorized service provider.

  • Can i order a MBP with backlit English/Arabic Keyboard and got it shipped?

can i order a MBP with backlit English/Arabic Keyboard and got it shipped?

The answer depends entirely on where you are. Are you in a country where that keyboard layout is offered by Apple Stores, an Apple Online Store, or Apple resellers? If so, the answer is yes. If not, the answer is likely to be no.

  • PC has just died, so have ordered an mbp. Will word transfer, or do I have to buy word for Mac????

    Hi.
    My PC has finally died.......
    Excitingly, have ordered a MBP.
My question is, will word documents transfer, or do I need to buy word for windows.
Nothing serious, just letters, invoices etc.
    THANK YOU.

If you're accustomed to working with MS Office, you can purchase Office for Mac 2011 and your documents will open fine - albeit if different fonts were used there may be some reflow problems.
Before buying Office for Mac, you may want to try out two free alternatives - LibreOffice or OpenOffice. I don't use them as I use Office for Mac but either should be able to open your Word documents.

  • How to check  that same Oracle software versions(including patch versions)

How to check that same Oracle software versions(including patch versions) is installed on two hosts(machines) ?
    We are using following process:
    On Host A :
    1) Get the Oracle version using SQLPlus -v
From this output, extract the version number.
2)Find the patches installed using opatch lsinventory -detail
From the output , Extract the Patch numbers and Bugs fixed.
    3) Store the version , patch and bugs information in a common file.
    On Host B :
Repeat the steps 1 and 2 and compare with the values from Host A.
Please let us know if there is any other method to do this.
    Thanks.

This is wrong: for Oracle Database version 10.2.0.4 *4* identifies the patch set and does not give information about interim patchs.
It is correct to use opatch lsinventory to get interim patchs.

  • HT203176 when i insert a software disc into my mac it will not run, how do i get it to run? thanks

Please help - when I insert a software disc into my mac it will not run, how do I get it to.
    Thanks

Then as Kenichi Watanabe has already advised...
The software disc should appear on the Desktop (or in the sidebar of a Finder window).
Double-click the disc icon (or select it in the sidebar).
On the disc, there should is often an Installer, or the application itself.

I plugged my Ipad3 in order to update the software to version 6.1 but I got an error message and my Ipad is locked now, it's showing the Itunes logo with USB cable on the screen. What should I do now?

You will probably need to restore using Recovery Mode. You can read about it here.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4097
Or you can follow these Recovery Mode Instructions
Disconnect the USB cable from the iPad, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
Turn off iPad: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for iPad to turn off.
If you cannot turn off iPad using the slider, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the iPad turns off, release the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons.
While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to iPad. When you reconnect the USB cable, iPad should power on.
Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears you can release the Home button.
If necessary, open iTunes. You should see the recovery mode alert that iTunes has detected an iPad in recovery mode.
    Use iTunes to restore iPad.
