Ordering a hard cover book

How long does it take to get a hard cover iphoto book? I need it in 2 weeks.

it should arrive within that time. Click on the support tab on apple.com to find a link to FAQs about it. There should be a delivery time listed there.

  • Very Poor Quality of Soft and Hard Cover Books in UK

I recently had 2 soft cover books printed-both originated from Aperture. Both showed severe crinkling on the cover on all areas of BLACK ink. The covers have also curled outwards badly. After speaking with the Apple Print Services helpdesk I was assured it must have been just a 'one off' problem. The replacement was not quite as bad but was still what I would say was of unacceptable quality. The pages inside are printed on very lightweight paper with a poor finish on all printed areas.
I then tried a hard cover book. This had a crinkled dust jacket caused presumably also by over-saturated ink on the paper.
The system of binding looked amateurish.
I would be interested to know whether my experiences are echoed by users on other continents. These books had a Dutch postmark on the package so I guess they were printed there?
These books may be priced attractively, but personally I would rather have a quality product than something I am embarrassed by - or certainly in a professional arena.

Hi, I have also ordered photobook through Aperture. Received with Dutch postmark. Quality is not good, the pages are very thin, use thicker paper than this for everyday printing, looks saturated, colour reproduction is not good in some photos also have some that are blurry. Have reproduced photos at same size on printer at home and they are totally different, do not know if this was a download issue.
As they come from Holland was wondering if it is through KODAK.
Also Aperture update 2.1.2 says that it will improve printing quality of books ordered through the printing services. Does this mean that a problem has been admitted and all photobooks ordered previously using Aperture 2 will have the oportunity to redownload and reprint? Somehow I think not.

  • Somehow I messed up creating my hard cover book.  I don't have the back cover and flap.  How do I get it back?

somehow I messed up creating my hard cover book.  I don't have the back cover and flap.  How do I get it back?

What version of iPhoto are you running?  Where are you seeing this lack of back cover and flap.
A first try fix is this:  make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home()/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
         User/Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
If that doesn't help create a new book and see if the back cover and flap are in it.  If so then it appears that your original book is damaged.
You can try rebuilding the library by launching iPhoto with the Option and Command keys held down and select the option to Repair the Database, option #3.  If that fails rebuild again with option #4, Rebuild Database.
If that doesn't help then create a new book, verify that the back cover and flap is there and add the photos.

  • How to Convert a Hard Cover Book already created to a soft cover book

We created a hard cover book, not realizing we needed to select hard cover vs. soft book before creating. When we went to buy the book we realized there are no options at the shopping card to make it a soft book. How can we make this a soft book without having to recreate the whole book. (It took 2 days and is 71 pages...that's a lot of "do-over..." Thanks.

just for safety duplicate the book first then select it and go to themes and select the softcover this time - it will warn about possible text loss which usually does not happen but since you have a copy you are fine even if there is an issue

  • Problem with 1-up spread page on hard cover book

I just received my first book and i'm fairly impressed overall by the exprience: usual Apple quality of service, even if print quality is not sensational (family and friends very inpressed nontheless, so... can't complain, I'm not a pro).
Only issue I have is with the 1-up spread layout (the one with a photo across two pages) in the hard cover book: with the way is binded, it "eats" the middle part of the photo!
I would like to know if the same happens with the soft cover type, i.e. if it opens flat so that you can see the photo in the middle all the way to the binding stitches.
    Thanks

  • Hard cover Books

I made a 78 photo soft cover "book". Its great!
Now, I want to create a hard cover of the same photos, but, hopefully without loading up each photo again. please advise to a simple new Mac user! Thx.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Select the book and type Command+D to duplicate the book. Open either copy and click on the Theme button. There you will be able to change the cover type. You'll get a message that you might lose text but I've had very good luck in changing themes or styles and not losing any. The other copy can be used to cut and past any text that might be lost.
Also be sure to do a Print to PDF of the book and proof it for all of the text, typos (my biggest problem), etc. before ordering.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Hard cover books are only laser prints ?

I recently ordered a large hardcover book from Aperture, and it just arrived.
I have been reading good and bad reports about Apple books, and also the Aperture 2.1.2 update promissed better quality books, so something must have been wrong that needed improving.
The best way to judge the quality was to just try one.
Maybe my judgement of good and bad is off, but this book I have here is nothing I would expect from Apple, and definatly not something I want to sell to my clients.
All the pages look like they have been printed with a standard laser printer on cheap paper.
Color seems ok though, but the overall quality is pretty low.
Figuring material costs and labour, the price can maybe justified, but I simply did not expect a laser printed book.
Are all Apple books printed on laser printers ?

I have noticed a definite improvement in hardcover books post the 2.1.2 update. While I wouldn't sell the books to clients, I do think printing rivals nearly anything on the market right now (in press printed custom books). We use them as a portfolio to give to people in our industry and the quality is definitely good enough for that. They are at least as good as any photo book you'd find at Borders.

  • Reordering just the jacket of a hard cover book

I would like to reorder just the jacket of the Large size hardcover book that I have previously ordered.  Is this possible?

No - that is not an option - you can do an exact reorder of the book for about 40 days - no option for just a cover
I guess you could do a new minimum 20 page book with that cover and order that and just use the cover

  • IPhoto5 hard cover book compared to iPhoto4

I just received a 50 page hardbound book using PictureBook layout (no text). It is almost the same as one I ordered thru iPhoto4; I think I added/deleted one photo.
It is fantastic! The colors are clear, and this new book looks just like the other one. The photos from snapshots came out very well despite the yellow triangle warning of low resolution.
Some of the others were professional wedding photos, and they look great as well. I am very pleased with this newest book.
I did the change to 300dpi as recommended.
I haven't tried a softcover book yet, but just wanted to post the comparison results.

I think you will see the large softcover and large hardcover are the same books with different covers and not different printing methodology.

  • Can I change a hard cover book to soft cover?

I've spent hours creating a photobook on iphoto and now that I'm ready to buy, I wish it were soft cover.  Can I change it at the last minute?  I can't figure out how to.

Yes, it's relatively easy to do. First click on the book and type Command+D to duplicate the book. then open the copy and click on the Theme button. In the theme menu you can switch to a soft cover version. You'll get a warning that you could lose some text. That's why it's wise to make a duplicate so you can go back to the original version to cut and past the text if needed. I've been able to switch covers and not lose any text but I just use the default fonts that the theme provides.
I Hope I Was Able To Help You Or Solve Your Question.

  • Set up book in hard cover instead of soft cover.

I just finished creating two photo books, one with 100 pages and the other with 90. I proceeded to order when I was asked to choose the color of the cover. It was then I noticed that I was ordering a hard cover book which I don't want. At this point, there was no way to indicate I wanted soft cover. Is there any way I can duplicate my efforts into a soft cover edition? Or, is it as I fear, that I had to choose soft cover BEFORE I began preparing the book?

    Judy:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. I think you can. Select the soft cover book in the Source pane and type Command-D. That will give you a duplicate copy to try switching from soft to hard cover, same theme. Even though it warns you that text may be lost I've switched themes before without losing text. Worth a try.

  • How to make hard cover paper book from iBooks author digital book

Someone suggested I make a few hard cover books from my iBooks Author published digital book. How would you go about doing this?
What file should I should I use, (PDF, etc)? What printer would do this best (iPhoto publishing, etc)?
Hoping it will be easy to use the format of iBooks Author so that I won't have to make changes.
    Many thanks for your help.

You can print directly from iBA or you can generate a PDF from the print menu and use that. Be sure to test layouts, orientation, etc. Of course certain content won't be output to a printer.
There are hundreds of printers to choose from - shop your budget.

  • Purchasing Soft Cover Books with iphoto "08

I have created a photo album on iphoto "08 and purchased a hard cover book. I would like to order duplicate copy of the book only with a soft cover. Is this possible?

click on the book in the source pane on the left and click on the themes icon - select the new size/cover/etc and you have it -- you may want to duplicate the book prior to making a format change since sometimes things change with a new format - to duplicate a book right click on the book in the source pane on the left and choose duplicate
