Ordering standard definition movies with Apple TV 2.

I just upgraded to the second generation Apple TV. I prefer to purchase standard definition movies but do not see that as an option with this unit. Is there a setting change I can make to bring this option up? In the meantime I went back to my old AppleTV!

Go to General > iTunes Store and change the option for "video resolution " to "standard defiition."

  • .mts to .mov (with Apple Intermediate Codec)

    Hi.
I would like to ask you if is it possible to (batch) convert movies from my handycam Sony HiD AVCHD (.MTS) to FCE (.mov) with Apple Intermediante Codec inside the .mov file.
I successly converted my .mts files with FFMPEG:
    ffmpeg -i 0011.mts -sameq -deinterlace 0011.mov
But, I need "Apple Intermediate Codec" inside the .mov file to avoid FCE from "render" again all my videos.
    Thank you in advance

    Hi there skalicki`.
Thank you very much for your help!!
I was a litle bit stressed here.
Well, it worked: I tested MPEG Streamclip to open one of my .mov and convert it to quicktime format with Apple Intermediate Codec and inserted that file into my Final Cut Express project and ... yes! it worked! No "re-rendering" processes.
For now, the steps I'm using are:
    1) copy my xxx.mts files to /tmp
    2) ffmpeg -i xxx.mts -sameq -deinterlace xxx.mov
    * the annoying thing is that ffmpeg just cannot convert some movies:
    [h264 @ 0x1003600]sps_id out of range
[h264 @ 0x1003600]B picture before any references, skipping
    [h264 @ 0x1003600]decodesliceheader error
    [h264 @ 0x1003600]no frame!
[h264 @ 0x1003600]B picture before any references, skipping
    3) Open MPEG Streamclip and convert xxx.mov to /tmp/newmov/xxx.mov
codec= Apple Intermediate Codec, audio=direct copy
Now I'm looking for a way to use MPEG Streamclip from command line ..
    Thank you again!

  • Stream movies with Apple TV 3 from time capsule

Is it possible to stream movies with Apple TV 3 from Time capsule ?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
If the content on your Time Capsule is in iTunes on your computer, then yes you can do that.

  • Watching movies with Apple TV slow with Time Capsule

I recently got rid of my Linksys router and replaced it with a Time Capsule, it acts as my backup storage as well as my router.
Ever since then, my apple TV is extremely slow when downloading movies. It used to take about 30 seconds to be able to watch the movie and now it's 1-4 hours.
My network speeds are fine, I can do speed tests and get 5-10Mbit down, so I'm not entirely sure what is going on.

Hello optize. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
I assume that you are using the new Time Capsule (TC) to stream movies to your Apple TV (ATV) ... correct?
If so, to improve streaming performance, you may need to try some of the following to find what will work best for your network configuration.
o If both the TC & ATV are wirelessly connected to each other, switch the radio mode to "802.11n only (5 GHz)."
o If you must operate your wireless network in the 2.4 GHz radio band to support non-"n" clients, try a different radio channel.
o Connect the TC & ATV by Ethernet.
o Temporarily disable Time Machine backups from running when streaming movies.
As you are probably already aware, the iTunes Store offers both standard definition (SD) and high definition (HD) video for rental and purchase. MPEG4-compressed 1,080p requires about 10 Mbps of throughput to stream without artifacts. As such, Apple’s SD and HD video would require between 2 and 5 Mbps for decent streaming over a network. A 802.11g network should top 20 Mbps in throughput, but could be lower speeds due to Wi-Fi interference. In contrast, a 802.11n network, with only n devices connected, can hit 90+ Mbps.

  • Using 4:2:2 Uncompressed standard definition video with FCE 4.0

    Hi all,
I'm preparing to get some old Super 8 Film converted to Digital Video. I'm looking at a transfer that ends up as 4:2:2 Uncompressed standard definition video on a USB Hard Drive. Has anyone had any experience with this format using FCE 4.0.1?
    I'm running a MAcBook Pro, OS 10.6.2, 2.4 Ghz Intel Core Duo, 4GB 667 Mhz DDR2 SDRAM.
    Cheers,
    Doug

    Not with FCExpress.
You didn't say what format/codec you plan on using, but FCE works with DV-NTSC and Apple Intermediate Codec, both of which are 4:1:1. And both are compressed. (FCE also works with DV-PAL which is 4:2:0 but Belize is not a PAL country.)
You could do 4:2:2 in Apple ProRes, but you will need FCPro to work with that.
If you are using FCExpress, then I'd suggest having your supplier provide you with QuickTime files using Apple Intermediate Codec.

  • Problem renting movies with Apple TV

Having a problem renting movies using Apple TV with Comcast cable and Netgear gigabit wireless router.  After selecting a movie to rent and clicking "rent" a message appears: "Accessing iTunes Store", after some delay a second message appears stating an inability to connect to iTunes store, try again later. This issue is intermittent. At any given time a movie can be rented and streamed, but more than 50% of the time, the rental fails.

We're not really sure as yet - there certainly seem to be no comments on subtitling as a feature.

  • How do I force a Standard Definition movie download from iTunes in the Cloud

I have an iPad with limited storage capacity.  I want to take movies with me when I travel.  How I do I force the iTunes Store app to download the SD version even if I have purchased the HD version which includes both?

The URL you quote is that of the feed, not the Store page, residing on your server.
The podcast doesn't seem to be in the Store so if it was ever there it's presumably been removed. The fact that you can subscribe to the feed in iTunes is a purerely local matter - your own iTunes application is simply connecting directly to the feed and the Store is not involved.
However there is a bug in the Store which will prevent you resubmitting the feed as it stands and will tell you it's already been submitted (even if it's been removed). The workaround for this is to change the title slightly (you can always change it back later) - if you can also change the feed URL that would also be a good idea. Then you should be able to submit the feed as an entirely new podcast.

  • Downloading movies with Apple TV and SONOS envirement

    hello
ddoes anyone have or has had issue dowloding movies with SONOS ? With a router......
    any miracle solution??????
    thanks

AppleTV movie rentals are fixed size and do not lower their quality for slower connections.
You need 6 Mbps internet speed for 'near instant' HD streaming, 2.5 Mbps for SD (You can change Settings for itunes Store to show SD rentals instead whcih are a little cheaper, though this will not allow you to watch the SD version of an HD film you've already rented).
If you have a slow connection (eg mine is 4 Mbps and takes 40 mins to start to watch HD), AppleTV must download enough of a movie into a buffer to allow it to play the movie through without stopping to wait for more to download.
On your PC test your internet speed at speedtest.net.
Your AppleTV is clearly communicating through your router, though if on wi-fi the LAN speed may also be low if signal is poor.  A g network should adequately handle AppleTV streaming and internet but as i say if signal is poor you may have a very slow LAN speed - if you can compare hooked up with ethernet that can show if wi-fi is affecting things.
One other point - AppleTV is illogical with rental downloads - it frequently wipes the portion downloaded if you use AppleTV for anything else forcing it to start again - the designers i believe assume everyone has fast unlimited network access which clearly is not the case.

  • Trying to format my QT movie with "apple photo" JPG using cross fade

Here's an example of what I'm trying to create: http://www.heese-cadieux.com/Home.html
I have QT pro, iWeb, and iPhoto, and many other editing programs.
I know how to make an image sequence, but not with cross fades, and my file size is still a bit big.
    Here's what I have so far: http://coreysheltonphotography.com/
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Corey.

Hiding the controller and creating a looping file are done with the html code:
controller="false" loop="true" (these tags are used in "embedded" QuickTime files). "Object" tags are used for Internet Explorer but the syntax is similar. Modern Web pages use javascript code for QuickTime files and combine both object/embed and the QT_WriteOBJECT code.
To create the file I linked above I did these steps:
"Borrowed" your source file (via QuickTime Player Pro).
Exported the six image files from that source (via QuickTime Player Pro).
Converted (reduced file size in the images) using GraphicConverter ($35).
Added your images to 5 seconds of audio (to give them "time"). This is different than converting to "video" as the single image file size is the same for the duration. I then "extracted" the new video track and saved as .mov format (Movie Properties window of QuickTime Player Pro).
I used samplemakeeffectmovie (not a typo) to "combine" two of these 5 second videos to add the "cross fade" effect. This is a developer PPC app I found years ago from Apple. 1998 and it still works on my Intel machine. It allows you to add transitions, compositors and effects (thousands of user created combinations) to two video files.
Once I created the six "videos" I joined them together (via QuickTime Player Pro) to make a single file (15 seconds in duration). I then added a royalty free audio track (converted from AIFF to AAC via QuickTime Player Pro) by adding the total .mov file (scaled) to the 30 second audio track. This brought the final "video" close to 30 frames per second (source was 15 fps).
What I proved is that QuickTime Player Pro can be an "authoring" application. I even wrote a book (PDF) that explains some of its possibilities.
Since I still don't own a "video" camera I've created my "movies" using still image files and QuickTime Player Pro. A few examples:
    http://homepage.mac.com/kkirkster/RedneckTexasXmas/index.html
The pink color was supposed to be transparent but the software didn't allow it.
    http://homepage.mac.com/kkirkster/03war/
Still images, layers, masks, audio and text to tell a story.
    http://homepage.mac.com/kkirkster/B/
Code that "calls" the QuickTime Player app (instead of the browser plug-in). Use the Command-f combo to enter full screen mode.

  • Can I stream full quality, non iTunes HD movies with Apple TV 3?

I’m thinking about getting an Apple TV but want to know if I can stream my 1080p movies that are not in iTunes at full quality?
I have a 13’’ MacBook Pro with a 1280x800 native resolution and a 50’’ LG Plasma TV with a 1920×1080 resolution.  If I play a 1080p movie on my MBP in QuickTime/VLC etc. will Apple TV stream the full resolution or just match my MBP lower resolution?
Also, some of my HD movies are 1GB and some are 10GB. Can Apple TV handle that?

AppleTV can only access compatible video in iTunes via its menu system.
If your Mac supports Airplay mirroring you will potentially  be able to screen share the video but none of mine are new enough to test.  Airplay mirroring uses screen sharing type software so the video seen on AppleTv will be a recompressed video output from the Mac and quality may suffer especially if network isn't that fast.
I believe mirroring maxes out at 720p but can't confirm.
If this video is unprotected you'd be better off converting to AppleTv conpatible h264 and adding to iTunes so AppleTV can pull and decode the stream.

  • HT202157 anyone having trouble with renting movies with Apple TV?

Not sure what to do,  can't seem to rent on Apple TV tonight.  Netflix is working and Itunes on my MAC is working.  I can always plug Mac to sound system but....  Anyone out there ith same trouble today.
    BTW:
    I restarted AppleTV
    I plug/unplugged (the godd old alt/del)

I appreciate you trying to help. However, I have NO idea how to check for a '3rd party DNS'. As I said, it worked flawlessly on Monday. Wouldn't that mean I was corrected properly?
I went to Apple TV support and in answer to rentaing movies it referred me with a link to this:
How long do I have to watch a rented movie?
You have 30 days from the time of rental to watch your movie, and 24 hours (in the US) or 48 hours (elsewhere) after you've started viewing to finish it. Once the rental period expires, the movie will disappear from your iTunes library.
This is a link FROM the Apple TV page. So I should have 30 days to watch the movie. Under Settings is a "Search for rented movies" option. Isn't that where you would find your rentals that you have not watched yet?
It's not that I don't WANT to troubleshoot. I just do not have a CLUE how to provide what you are asking for.
    Thanks.

  • Downloading movies with apple tv; streaming photos from PC

hello -  I have Apple tv software version 4.4.3 (3323) ;  my router / wi-fi network is Orange Livebox 1888. When downloading a movie,  it literally takes hours; it's not uncommon to get an initial message that the film will take in excess of 3 hours to download and on two occasions the message suggested a time lag of 40 hours !!! ( Once the download begins, the time lag is updated and is scheduled to take less time, but still many hours). Have to leave the tv on overnight to get the download. This is clearly ridiculous. Has anyone experienced this scenario? Could it be due to bandwidth issues ?  Apple store assured me that apple tv would work with my Livebox wifi router ( which I think is g not n type). Not able to get full functionality from the apple tv which is annoying.
Also when streaming photos from my PC to apple tv, thete are occasions when the process will crash;  it seems that it can't cope with streaming more than say 100 photos at a time which also seems poor.
can anyone offer any suggestions please ?
    thanks

  • IPhoto 2014 Ordering prints, problems communicating with apple online store

    iPhoto v. 9.5.1
When I'm trying to order prints directly from within iPhoto, i get this error "There was a problem communicating with the Apple Online Store. Please try again."
    I tried:
    - Booting from safe mode
    - Calling tech support
    - Reinstalling iPhoto
    - This guide: http://b.rthr.me/wp/?p=356
The only thing that are partly working is changing country iPhoto > Preferences > Advanced > Print Product Store.
If i change from Denmark to Germany or UK, i get the check out screen - but I can't pay with a danish credit card or choose to have the package send to Denmark.
    Any ideas?

The following are two fixes posted by other users that helped them:
    #1
go to the System/Sharing preference pane and make sure Remote Apple Events is checked.
If it is, uncheck it and then recheck and try ordering again.
    #2
    Quit iPhoto.
From the Finder menu bar, choose Go > Utilities to access your Utilities folder (or press Shift-Command-U).
In your Utilities folder, open Keychain Access.
Find the "NetServices" entry in your Keychain Access window.
Select the "NetServices" entry and press the delete key.
Reopen iPhoto and attempt to place your order again.
You should be prompted to enter your account information if you deleted the Keychain entry successfully.
After entering your account information, you should be able to complete your order.
