Organize by Thread message counts gone?
OK, I must be missing a pref somewhere. Tiger's Mail.app would show me the number of messages in a thread if I chose 'Organize by thread'. That count is gone under Leopard. Is there a pref somewhere to turn it back on?
Answering my own question: It's the width of the '•' (read/unread) column, which somehow got reset on my machine.

Organize By Thread not working in iOS 5 Mail
Since my iOS 5 update, viewing mail messages by thread no longer works for me (both on an iPhone 4s and an iPad 2). This happens with an imap account. (I don't know whether POP accounts are affected.)
It's easy to test this:
Send yourself a mail message with subject "Test".
Reply to the message, so there are now two messages with subject "Test" and "Re: Test".
Check that the "Organize By Thread" option for mail is enabled on the iOS 5 device.
Look at your inbox.
On my iPhone and iPad, I see the two messages displayed as separate items but, with Mac Mail on OS X, they are shown as a single entry.
Is anyone else seeing this or am I the only one? Any known work-around?
Thanks,
Michi.Actually I also see the opposite as you say, i.e. messages that should be in the same thread are shown as separate threads, even though they are properly grouped in Mac Mail on OS X.
Thank you for having submitted a bug report to Apple, and for letting me know that Apple has since acknowledged it as a known problem and is working on it.
Good to know that I'm not alone here - obviously others are also faced with the same issue, though one would not have known based on the short... thread here!
(Eeeeek, I take it back! I just saw in Mac Mail on OS X that some messages aren't properly grouped, either. Sigh...)

How to get Uniform distributed queue message counts with help of JMX
Hi,
Is there any way to get given queue message count, pending message counts using JMX. I can get all queue names and counts using JMX... after that i have to show only selected queue details.
Thanks,
-SomHi,
Following is the WLS snippet from an upcoming WLS JMS message management white paper that you can use to get the message statistics for a given destination.
With appropriate command line parameters, this script can be used to poll and dump the statistics of any destination on a specified interval.
Note that the WLST uses JMX API under the cover, so you can easily convert this into a pure JMX java program.
Hope this helps.
Kats

I'm using 10.8.2 on an iMac, together with Fastmail as an email provider. The Get Account Info function in mail shows message counts in my IMAP mail boxes that match Fastmail's various webmail interfaces. The actual messages displayed don't reach these totals, however. They're always 5-20 messages short, even with all conversation features turned off. Postbox 3.06 and Outlook 2011 don't have these issues. Is this some sort of known Mail issue, and some esoteric problem with Fastmail? Any hints would be welcome. I don't much care for Outlook, but I also don't want to accidentally lose some email I'll need later.
Mine has an unread count of 6, and it's really annoying. This would definitely be my favorite new feature of the new Mail by far if only it worked correctly.
I've been using a "new mail" smart mailbox for some time now, so that doesn't take care of it. I've also deleted all my RSS feeds (use Google Reader anyway), gone through every mailbox and marked everything as read, and restarted Mail several times. The weird thing is that this happened before (unread count was 2), went away for a few days, and now it's doing it again. Unless there are some mail messages getting diverted somewhere else that aren't showing up in Mail, I'm not quite sure what the problem is, but it really is mighty distracting.

Unread message count is wrong in Mail and Dock
Just last week I noticed that both my Email Inbox & Mail Dock Icon is showing an incorrect unread message count on both my MacBook & iMac. I am using a Microsoft Exchange Hosted account (Office 365) and it is the only email account tied to both of my Macs. My iPhone shows the correct unread message count as well as Outlook Web Access, and on a seperate windows-based computer, Outlook is showing the correct unread message count of 3. Both Mac systems are using OS X 10.7.3 and I have never experienced this issue before.
The MacBook is showing 39 unread messages, and the iMac is showing 16, in actuality there are 3 unread messages. If I create a smart mailbox that shows only unread messages - it shows up with the correct number (3), when I sort by "Unread Messages" for Inbox, it only shows that I have three unread messages.
I have rebuilt the inbox, I have deleted the email account from the computer, restarted the computer and then readded it, all it did was bring the unread message count from 19 to 16 on my iMac (still - it should be 3).
I have also gone to Mail -> Preferences -> General and verified that Show Dock Unread County is set to "Inbox" but oddly enough, when I click "All Mailboxes" the unread count on the Dock changes to 3.
Is there a file I can delete to reset that unread message count? I feel like I've done everything that's suggested to no avail.
Thanks! There is a small glitch, and you guys are close.
In Mail Preferences under General, there is the option for:
Dock Unread Count --
Your choices in the dropdown are either:
None
Inbox Only
All Boxes
The problem is that I've often seen the Inbox Only is checkmarked, and stays as checkmarked, even when you last told it to use either None or All Boxes.
It is possible that Alconic see's Inboxes Only checkmarked, when in fact it's All mailboxes that are set to be showing.
Try to re-check "Inbox only" even though it's already checked and see what happens... -

The destination message count limit (maxNumMsgs) of 100000 has been reached
So I seem to be getting this error when trying to send JMS messages in Glassfish to a topic after our application has been up and running for about 18 hours. We're using a topic, so a message is being published to the topic and one of two things should be happening if I understand things correctly: 1) Subscribers on the topic should receive a copy of the message, then the message is deleted from the topic or 2) there are no subscribers so the message doesn't get stored in the topic. However, based on the stack trace below, it is quite clear that the topic queueing up messages. The messages we send are non-persistent and the subscribers are non-durable so if no one is listening to the topic there's no reason to queue up the message. And if someone is listening, when the message is sent to the subscriber then it should be removed from the topic. Maybe I'm not understanding how topics work.
Here's the stack trace:

My text message count says 2, but I have no unread messages. How do I fix this?
Ok! I went to Settings then to Messages and then turned off iMessaging and turned off everything I could in the Messaging area and then went to the Home Screen and those pesky unread messages were gone! So I went back into settings and turned everything back on, solved my problem.
The only thing I had to do was resign in for iMessaging. -
So I was looking through the mail options and saw this
http://imgur.com/Sqvp2.png
Can anyone explain to me what "Organize by Thread" is for?
Thanks."If you organize messages by thread, related messages appear as a single entry in the mailbox. Message threads have a number next to the right arrow, showing the number of messages in the thread. A blue dot indicates that one or more messages in the thread are unread. The message displayed is the oldest unread message, or the most recent message if all the messages are read."
In other words, all the messages from one person will show as only one entry in your inbox with a number to indicate the number of messages from that person.
See page 74 of iPhone iOS4 User Guide for a picture. -
Mail: Organize by Thread
As rudimentary as it was I took advantage of the Organize by Thread feature of Snow Leopard, which seems to be missing in Lion. I get a lot of website generated emails with the same subject, which was easy to organize in Snow Leopard. In SL I would have one thread that had hundreds of emails (and I do mean hundreds) in Lion I now have hundreds of threads which I have to manage individually. Is there any way to get back to organize by thread? I've already enabled classic view but it doesn't appear to help.
Thanks,
-JohnNo help here, but I need to commiserate.
If I understand correctly, I am having the same problem:
Messages with the same subject, but with different senders, are not consolidated into a single thread/conversation.
I also receive emails via a web form, where each message contains the same subject. In 10.6, these messages were ALL listed as a single thread that could be expanded/collapsed. In 10.7, they are now all separate messages in the Inbox (organized by "Conversation"). What used to be a neat and condensed display is now a very long list.

Views/Topics/Messages counts
What is wrong with the Views/Topics/Messages counts in the Leopard forums?
Universal Access & VoiceOver: 23,657 Views, only 250 topics THAT many views?
Using Mac OS X Leopard: 7,071 views, 43,511 topics LESS views than the actual # of threads??
That can't be right!Hi,
I would guess the first one is right
At Category level the Views versus Posts look similar in low level thread areas
Depending when the software counts a View for the category List (It may not count the Original Post) the others would seem to be right as in busy forums some posts move down the list quickly.

In full screen mail, message count vanishes
I'm not sure if this is a Mavericks issue, or has always been an issue. When I use mail with the message viewer as a regular window, the count of messages in the mailbox I'm looking at shows in the window bar. But when I switch to full screen, the count vanishes. Am I missing something?
You're not missing something. When an app is made Full Screen, its title bar is removed. This is true for all apps; though most don't suffer from the loss of a feature the way Mail does.
If you want to see how many messages are in the currently-selected mailbox without leaving Full Screen, move your cursor to the top of the screen to reveal the Menu Bar, click on the "Window" menu and the very last item displayed in the dropdown will be the window title, which includes the message count in parenthesis. Alternatively, you can right-click (two-finger click if on a trackpad) on Mail's icon in the Dock, and it will show you the window name with the message count in parenthesis. Both options are less convenient than glancing at the menu bar, but at least you can remain in Full Screen.
