Organize Fonts by Style/Collection
Hey Everyone,
I came across a feature he other day that came in really handy and was wondering if there is a plugin for InDesign CS6 that could accomplish a similar effect.
In MS Word, when you go to Font-->Font Collections, there is a dropdown menu with a list of the fonts I have loaded in the categories I specified in FontBook. For instance, when I loaded my serif fonts into FontBook, I put them in a collection called "Serif." MS Word then uses this information and has my fonts organized into my specified folders. Bascially, it allows me to separate my fonts by style, ie. Serif, Sans Serif, Slab Serif, Retro etc. See attached image to get a better idea of what I'm talking about.
Thanks,
Steve
It's a nice idea, but Adobe is (understandably) reluctant to add platform-specific features. There is no equivalent to Font Book in Windows (at least, not as comprehensive), and also nothing like the Font Collections.
Microsoft doesn't seem to worry about non-transferable platform features. Perhaps you could first convince them to make something similar like Font Book for the next Windows

Change font type/style of app.popUpMenu
Hi~~
I am using app.popUpMenu to show an array of items, in which there are some Chinese charaters but they are displayed as "..."
I guess the default font type of the popup menu cannot show these Chinese characters...
Is there any method to change the popup menu font type / style?
Also I tried to change the font of the textfield which populates the popup menu, but it doesn't work...
~~~~ thanks for any suggestions!hi radzmar~ thanks for your advice!
i tried but it cannot solve my problem...all the chinese characters can be shown correctly in the form except this app.popUpMenu
the chinese characters can also be shown in alert message box
How to Make a "fonts.css" style sheet
Hi, I have a wordpress blog with a stylesheet named “style.css”. I want to change the fonts in the style sheet and so I want to create a separate style sheet named “fonts.css"
I could just duplicate the ”style.css” page and then rename it “fonts.css” but I believe I read somewhere it is better to create a new style sheet named “fonts.css” and then add my font styles to that. Doens anyone know of a tutorial or how I make the new style sheet and add my fonts?I only typically use two stylesheets on any given site, layout.css and styles.css. One is for the overall layout/positioning info of the site and the other is the style information which would include fonts, colors, shadows, transitions, etc.
If it is better in your mind and for your workflow to create a third stylesheet just for the font values, go for it. To me, fonts are just another style element though, so they stay in my styles.css file.
There's really no right or wrong to doing it either way. Just make sure you create another link in the head section of your site to the new file if you create fonts.css.
Thanks jon,
Yes I agree, I could just change the fonts in “style.css” and then have less style sheets, but the themes developer told me to create a new style sheet named “fonts.css” only because the theme is updated regularly and uploading a new theme will write over the file named “style.css” and then your fonts will default to their original fonts.
I don't see anything wrong with that approach. Just remember that if you have both styesheets linked to the same page then the page will get it's css styles from the last linked stylesheet.
So for instance if you have:
body {
font-size: 14px ;
in the style.css
and
body {
font-size: 12px ;
in the fonts.css
and the last linked stylesheet was styles.css the page would display 14px text.
So you just need to get them in the right order IF you have more than one styleshet linked to a page.
Thanks Osgood,
Yes that was my other question. So in my uploaded CSS folder I have the original “style.css” file and now my new “fonts.css” file. “style.css” is above the “fonts.css” file and both contain the same information except the file “fonts.css’ has been changed to use different fonts.
So if I understand you correctly I need to either move the file “fonts.css" above the file “style.css” or delete “style .css” from the CSS folder so the file “fonts.css” will take precedence. Is this correct?
Also, I needed to open style.php and edit the code to include “fonts.css” which I did.
I opened "style.php" and then added the code in "red" then uploaded it to the (CSS) folder on the server.
<?php
header( "Content-type: text/css" );
$files = array();
$files[] = 'style.css';
$files[] = 'responsive.css';
$files[] = 'fonts.css';
foreach($files as $file) :
$content = @file_get_contents( $file );
echo minify( $content );
endforeach;
function minify( $code ) {
$code = preg_replace( '#\s+#', ' ', $code );
$code = preg_replace( '#/\*.*?\*/#s', '', $code );
$code = str_replace( '; ', ';', $code );
$code = str_replace( ': ', ':', $code );
$code = str_replace( ' {', '{', $code );
$code = str_replace( '{ ', '{', $code );
$code = str_replace( ', ', ',', $code );
$code = str_replace( '} ', '}', $code );
$code = str_replace( ';}', '}', $code );
return trim( $code );
?>
After doing all of this I still didn’t see any changes to my fonts so I must have done something wrong.
Any ideas? -
Unable to set default fonts n style in Cisco Jabber
Unlike CUPC or WebEx Connect, no option is currently available under File -> Options for both Cisco Jabber for Windows (On Prem or Cloud deployement) to configure and set default font/size/style for Jabber.
Got an update on this. This feature is targeted in future release where we'll allow end users to change the Outgoing Font Size n Style!!
Font Size / Style changes on recipient's end?
I've been using mail since Leopard and recently upgraded to Snow Leopard where I'm currently on Mail version 4.2 (1078).
Whenever I compose and send a message where the default font is Helvetica 12 and the email format is rich text, some recipients receive my email where the font is very tiny, maybe a 4 pt font and the style changes.
In many of my emails, I will copy and paste a paragraph or two from another email where the font is theoretically the same and then I will edit a few words in the body of the email before submitting.
When some recipients reply back with my original email text, I sometimes see the edited text as a tiny font or the font size of my email has shrunk down considerably.
I sent a test email to my hotmail and gmail accounts but this issue does not seem to arise. What I saw before sending my email is exactly the same font size/style in my hotmail and gmail accounts.
Is this an issue with the recipient's email browser or are there some incompatibilities with Apple's Mail and other email browsers?Thanks baltwo and Tom. I'll try sending as a PDF file as well.
Also, I did a test per Tom's instructions about reformatting text. First, I copied text from another email and then pasted it in a new message. I highlighted all the text where I wanted to increase the text size and left one paragraph unchanged.
I sent the email to the recipient that's having these issues where she replied back with my forwarded email.
All the text where I increased the point size shrunk and the text that I left alone was actually okay - Weird! I also noticed that the font style changed on their end. By the way, the recipient uses Microsoft Outlook as their email browser. -
Unable to add font back to collection after removed from collection
I installed Adobe's Source Sans Pro font (free software), and today I found that there is a newer version, so I think I need to remove this font and install the newer version again.
I first remove it from my custom font collection called "Modern", and I found that I was wrong -- I have to find it in "All Fonts". So I removed it from All Fonts again.
Then I install the new version of Source Sans Pro. It is installed without warning.
Then I drag the installed font from All Fonts to Modern collection. But after that, there is no Source Sans Pro in Modern collection.
I tried to remove it from All Fonts, and install again by dragging it from Finder to Modern collection. It is then can be found in All Fonts, but still not in Modern collection.
I then tried another font called PT Sans. I first drag it from All Fonts to Modern collection, then remove it from Modern collection. When I drag it from All Fonts to Modern collection again, it is not actually being added to Modern collection.
So I can reproduce this problem with other fonts, not specific to Source Sans Pro.
I know there is a workaround: create a new collection, drag all fonts from Modern to the new collection, drag Source Sans Pro to new collection, remove the old Modern collection, and finally rename the new collection to Modern. But this is annoying.
Now I think this is a bug. Does anyone have this issue too?Hi,
I had sam problem and resolved it by doing clean install of OVM Server v3.2.1 on that server. After that, I successfully added OVM server to my pool. :/
Best regards, -
Can't move font to a collection
This may have been a problem in previous OS version too (trying this in Mavericks). I am using Font Book trying to move a font into a collection. It shows up in All Fonts, I would like to add it to a specific collection. I have lots of other fonts on this collection. I have had these for many years. The font is a ttf, just like some of the other fonts. Is there some permission problem?
Hey Brenden,
I read your infomration, the font shows up in the All Fonts and User connections. But I can not move/copy it to a collection that I created. So tonight I tried to install this same font on the iMac. It installed in the All Fonts and User collection as expected, and also in the collection that I created (yes, it works on the iMac). For fun I tried to move/copy this font and one other to a collection I created. This too worked. I just can not move/copy this one font to a collection. Is there a log file that might tell me what is going on? I see no errors. The font works, I use it, I just can not move it to the collection I want. -
Saving InCopy Story with Font and Style information...
Dear All,
Can anyone can shed any light on an InCopy story export problem I'm having?
I've got two versions of a function in a shared library, one for CS4 and one for CS5, which is used for both InCopy and InDesign.
The story export works okay and normally outputs the font and style information which is used by the story.
I've just added code to include all font and style resources dependent on a system setting.
The CS4 version works fine and I get a satisfying amount of file bloat if I turn the option on.
The CS5 version works as expected in InDesign but not when it's called from InCopy.
In fact if I turn the setting on in InCopy I get no font information at all, if I turn it off then I get the font info used by the story.
The call to SetInCopyInterchangeExportOptions returns kNoError(nil), so I imagine it's worked...
Is there anyway I can trace what's going on in the export in InCopy.
Is this the right call to acheive my aim?
Thanks in advance for any help forthcoming.
Regards
Caerwyn
Change font size, style, etc
Changing the font size and style are typical requirements of all applications. I find it inconceivable that this option is not available from the research and development staff at a company with the expertise of apple. Until they get their act together I have switched to Google Calendars. Those are very cool indeed! Email your daily itinerary to business colleagues and share calendar access with anyone you desire. Also printable or .pdf formats.
It isn't gone, just minimized. The top of the screen should have a thick dark brown bar with "Documents", "Undo", etc. Under that should be a thinner lighter brown bar. Touch that thinner bar and the formatting bar should reappear.
WHY: Font color/style appears to be different in R-hand column
http://web.mac.com/lorna6/iWeb/4TH%20DOWN/Lizzie%20Lulu.html
At the URL above I formatted text in two columns. ALL of the text is supposed to be Trebuchet, Regular style, size 11 font, and Mercury color.
However, as you can see, the right hand column appears to be bolded out. Theleft hand column is as I meant it to be.
I checked each column of text with Text Inspector for character spacing and leading. I checked the Fonts Inspector to ascertain that both columns were identical. On iWeb, they are. But on Safari, they are as I stated up above.
QUESTION: What might be causing this? What can I do to fix it?
Thank you.Lorna,
The reason they look different is that the first
column of text got converted into a single graphic
and the second column is still rendered as text. See,
here's the first column as one graphic file...
James, is there a solution? If I delete everything and then put in two columns without cutting the first one in two, then would the problem go away?
iWeb does this sometimes for various reasons. A lot
of times copy and pasting text from one application
into iweb or even from one text box to another in
iWeb will trigger the conversion.
James, I will re-do the page. Also, I clicked onto the URL you provided, and that text that you inputted as one long vertical line of very very faint greyed color. Lorna in Southern California -
Changing PSE 11 Organizer font
For PSE 11 Organizer, how do I increase metadata display font size?
I believe you can not.
There is no option in PSE to change the font size of the application.
However you can change the overall size of your display by reducing the resolution of your machine. But this will affect all the applications.
