Organizer 10 freezes up

I just installed Elements 10. The edit portion seems ok, but when I start with or toggle to the organizer, my screen shows recent photos as it searchs for more. The message says 2% has loaded, but it never seems to be able to advance from that point. Please note that I loaded the full version, and then uninstalled PS elements 8. Also one of the start-up screens says that I have reached my 2 gb maximum storage.

Try going to Services via the control panel or task manager and then temporarily pause the Adobe updater.

PSE 9 Organizer freezes

I just recently installed PSE 9. Every time I get past the Welcome Screen (with the organizer behind it..btw how do you change this option?), the Organizer freezes. I have to click Ctrl>Alt>Delete to get out of it. I have re-installed PSE 9 3 times. This last time,I made sure my anti-virus software was turned off. And, this time, when I restarted & opened PSE 9, my catalog was still there from the previous install. How can that be, if I have uninstalled & reinstalled??
I am getting very frustrated with this problem, I have used the Organizer since it was introduced, & have all my pics tagged, etc. I posted over on the photoshopelementsuser website, but no one seems to be an Organizer expert.

I constantlly have a problem with organizer. And have the same issue that it freezes and then shuts down. I can't have both Edit & Organizer open at the same time. I need help too!!

I am trying to download pictures from my vacation. I plugged in my camera like usual, and when I select for my pictures to be downloaded in photoshop, everything freezes. Then I went into organizer - which I could open - but when I go to get photos - it freezes there too. I tried 2 different cameras - so I don't hinink it is just my camera. I usually download pictures a couple times per week. Any advise?

Elements 5.0 Organizer Freezing when I try to download my pics

Elements 9 organizer freezes

When I open the Elements 9 organizer it freezes. I've searched these fora and others at the internet. I've tried what I encountered (delete thumbnail and status files, run as administrator, bypass the welcome screen, re-installed Elements 9) but nothing helps. I am able to switch catalog if I do that immediately after I open the organizer. I've started a new catalog, imported the pictures but when the organizers states it is generating the thumbnails it (and the PC) freezes. The only way to quit is by using ctrl+alt+del and end the process. I'm using Windows 7 Professional, 64 bit with 8 GB of memory. Never had these problems before. Any ideas how to solve this?

Spent most of the weekend to solve this.Hoping the solution below can help others with the same issue.
I suspected that the issue was caused by a "corrupt" file, because the organizer started, but once the message "creating miniatures" appeared it frooze.
I renamed the the Catalogs folder to OldCatalogs and created a new, empty Catalogs folder.
Started the Organizer and was prompted to create a new, empty catalog.
I copied the "problem catalog" to the Catalogs folder (the Organizer now started up with the new empty catalog) and used the optimize/repair tool on the problem catalog, even though it indicated the catalog was ok. This did not help, same issue upon opening the catalog. Moved it back to the OldCatalogs folder.
I started opening the last batch of pictures I had been working on (about 300 in total) in smaller batches (about 50 each). The first batches imported without issues, the last batch did not and frooze the Organizer again.
I started importing the last 50 pictures one by one. With 2 pictures the Organizer indicated the file was corrupt but did not freeze. One picture did freeze the Organizer.
I deleted these 3 pictures from the folder and all is well now.
A tool like Adobe Photoshop Elements should not feeze (and even freeze the PC to the point that ctrl+alt+del doesn't work anymore) on importing an apparently corrupted file! If Adobe is monitoring this, and I hope they do, I still have these files available in case you want to investigate.

I would be interested to know why this behavior started after the program had been installed and worked normally for over a month. On the other hand, this might be one of those mysteries that must remain unanswered.

Photoshop Elements 7.0 Organizer freezes upon opening

I am so very frustrated. I have been using this program for onver a year. I recently started experiencing this problem. When I import photos fro a folder, the organizer shows "generating thumbnails" then freezes. I cannot use the organizer at all. I have to use my task manager to shut down the program. I thought I;d solved the problem as I uninstalled the programand then reinstalled it. It worked ok for a week or so, but then I had to import mor photos to work with and once again I am back to zero. I am using Windows XP and have 1.0 GB of ram...and 1.81ghz...my laptop has less GHz and works fine with PSE so I dont get it? This is the same syatem I've been using all; along and now I have an issue. Can anyone PLEASE help??

What is the Auto-Analyzer?
The Elements Organizer has the ability to scan your videos and look for certain characteristics that may help you choose what will work best for you projects in Premiere Elements. This Auto-Analysis runs in the background of your system, scanning the video files in your catalog and applying Smart Tags when it finds certain criteria have been met. There are over 50 Smart Tags that can be applied, including whether the footage is blurry, includes a zoom or pan, has people's faces, etc. Additionally, it will break up your video up into individual scenes. It will also check your image files for people’s faces so you can identify in which pictures your friends and family appear.

While Auto-Analysis can be very useful for digging through your footage and breaking it down into more digestible bits, video files can be very large. Thus the system resources needed to analyze some video files can cause the rest of your system to perform slowly. Additionally, poor compression or incompatible codecs within the video files can cause errors with the Auto-Analyzer.
How do I customize Auto-Analysis?
The Auto-Analyzer can have its behavior modified in the Organizer Preferences (Mac OS: Adobe Elements [Version] Organizer > Preferences, Windows: Edit > Preferences > Media Analysis). Pictured here:

How do I turn off Auto-Analysis?
To completely disable the Auto-Analyzer, uncheck all of the options in the Media Analysis Preferences.
What if Elements Organizer is crashing or freezing?
If Auto-Analysis is really struggling with your files, it may cause the Elements Organizer to crash. And the crash may occur faster than you can get to the Preferences to disable it. In these cases, here are the steps you can follow to disable the Auto-Analyzer.
While Launching the Elements Organizer (click “Organize” on the Welcome Screen), hold down the Shift key.
NOTE: You have to perform this step quickly.
If you get the timing right, the Catalog Manager will appear before the Organizer opens. The Catalog Manager is the same dialog you see when you go to File > Catalog from within the Organizer.
In the Catalog Manager, click the New button. You may get a warning about your Backup/Synchronization settings. Just click OK.
Give the new catalog a name (it doesn’t matter what it is, just something you can identify later, such as “Test”). Click OK.
The Elements Organizer will launch with this new, blank catalog. But don’t worry, all of your files are still safe.
Go to the Media Analysis settings in Preferences and uncheck all options.
Go to File > Catalog and in the Catalog Manager, select your original catalog from the list (default name is “My Catalog”) and click Open.

If these steps do not address your Elements Organizer crashing or freezing issues, then you are dealing with a problem that doesn’t involve the Auto-Analyzer.
What if Auto-Analyzer is having trouble in Elements Organizer but I still would like to scan some files?
If you’ve had to disable Auto-Analysis because of some trouble with certain files, but you’d like Auto-Analyze other files, you can do so. Simply select the files you would like analyzed and go to Edit > Run Auto-Analyzer. This will just scan the files you have selected.
Why won’t Auto-Analysis work with my files?
As previously mentioned, Auto-Analysis may have issues with the way your video files have been compressed. Additionally, there is a file size limitation to what can be analyzed. The upper limit is about 4000 x 4000 pixels, or around 15.6 megapixels. While the Organizer will import much larger files and even generate thumbnails for them, the Auto-Analyzer will not read them. They will merely be skipped over. If you try to analyze a single file of such large size, you will be informed of this skipping due to potential errors.

Pse 10 organizer freezes freezes

Organizer Loads pictures. Within 10 seconds not responding/freezes. Should I do a reinstall?If I do will I lose my aibums, tags, etc.? Please help

Have tried that before and it tells me nothing to repair. No change. Still crashes...currently as we speak it says organizer is updating and taking awhile....It only went to update after about 5 crashes and restarts...JUst checked and sstuck at 7% with the turning wheel...BTW running Win 7

Elements 8 Organizer freezing

I have about 2 GB loaded into my organizer and every time I open the organizer it freezes up and the only way I can get out of it is closing it through the task manager. I have gotten it to stay open long enough to turn off the auto people recognition...I have deleted the cache, I have updated teh liscense info.
What else can I do to get the organizer to work? The editor is working perfectly, as long as I don't want to get my files from the organizer I can use the program just fine.
Any help would be appreciated.
Is this some sort of problem with internet explorer 8...or just a bug in PSE 8?

Problem is the link I need for clearing the organizers preferences is unavilable so I don't know how to do that.
Adobe accidentally deleted the their tech notes for troubleshooting PSE 8 Organizer issues. An employee posted here recently saying they would fix it, but it hasn't been yet.
To delete the PSE 8 Organizer preferences on XP, I think you delete this file:
C:\Users\your-user-name\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Elements Organizer\8.0\Organizer\psa.prf
If that doesn't help, continue with the next steps. If you get to "Try Adobe's generic troubleshooting", that also refers to the deleted tech note. You can use the PSE 7 on XP troubleshooting instead, which is similar:

You may have to change some file references from "7.0" to "8.0".
Also I have about 8500 images in my organizer right now for digital scrapbooking. Not sure if that is causing a problem too.
That's a relatively small catalog, and the Organizer should handle it just fine.

ERROR Opening PSE 8 Organizer Freezes

After downloading files from my camera the Organizer opens and another window opens titled “Files Ready for Import”.
Clicking on YES or NO this window goes away and the Organizer stays busy and the application freezes. The Task manager has to be used to abort the PSE8 application. The files did get downloaded but the organizer does not seem to know what to do with them.

I do not find the"APDLogs" directory. Here is what I see...
Is there somewhere else to look?

I just tryed it again and it seems to be working.
Is it possible that it could have cleared on it's own. I have used the editor in the meantime, without going through the Organizer, and now I open the organizer and it worked.

Elements Organizer Freezing

In Elements 10 Organizer, when I go to Edit > Preferences then select any of the sub menu items the program freezes and I have to Ctrl-Alt-Delete to escape. The program appears to function in all other respects apart from this. I had a go with the extensive Adobe help system but got hopelessly lost! Can anybody point me in the right direction please?

Re-set the Preferences by deleting (or re-naming) this file (enable viewing hidden files in Windows Explorer to see it):
"C:\Users\<your username>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Elements Organizer\10.0\Organizer\psa.prf"
When you start Organizer, the Preferences file will be re-built.

PSE7 organizer freezes when deleting thumbnails

I am attempting to empty my organizer catalog since I have moved the majority of my photos to an external hard drive. If I delete 20 thumbnails at a time I have no problems other than it seems to take an unusually long time. If I attempt to delete all, or even a stack of 200, the program freezes at 39% completion, and my only option is to end the "non responsive" program with the task manager. I have near 5000 thumnails that I need to delete. I've checked the catalog for errors and none were found. I'm not sure if this is related or not, but as of yesterday my welcome screen has a new terms of use area where my member registration should be. If I try to click ok it says "there was a problem updating your account." So I am not even able to login on the welcome screen. I've checked for updates and there are none. Any advice as to what to do would be truly appreciated!

Nope. Doesn't make sense.
You put photos in your catalog because you want to keep them and manage them. There's no point to using the catalog in the mode "Once I'm thru editing I would like them to go away".
The photos shouldn't be generating thumbnails each time you open PSE, unless you have another different problem. Perhaps you could explain that further.
If I do start a new catalog will this one disappear?
I hope this is not a completely stupid question, but do people really leave thousands of photos in their catalogs? If so, why, and does it take a long time to generate thumbnails upon opening?
I'm not computer illiterate, but I'm no genius either....any help really is appreciated!
New catalog is a new file on your hard disk with no photos. In that case, the old catalog remains on your hard disk, but isn't hurting anything.
Yes, the whole point of a catalog is so that you can manage and organize and find your photos, so people do leave thousands of photos in their catalog. In my case, I have ALL of my photos in my catalog. In my mind, there is absolutely no point to having some photos in your catalog and other photos not in your catalog.

What happens if you wait for the updating to complete?
If you leave it to complete the task you may then be able to adjust your preferences for watch folder and auto-analyzer; so that it doesn’t happen in future.

Photoshop Elements 10 Organizer freezes shortly after startup

I have about 35000 pictures with avg size of 7Mb and use a single catalog to manage these.
I created chronological albums by filtering on 6 month time periods, i have about 16 of these.
When I created this initial setup, the organizer was working fine. not since then.
e.g.:
-When I'm trying to download new pictures from my camera, I can open the Photo downloader program, it detects the camera and the pictures on it, I can set to location to download to, but none of the other settings, like 'Rename Files' and the Get Media button doesn't respond, even though it looks active.
-When I try to browse through my albums, I can select one, but then the application becomes unresponsive and I cannot get it to do anything anymore.
I'm also observing continuous harddisk activity and the Windows Task Manager is showing that is caused by the PSE Organizer.
I'm running Windows 7 64bit, have 8Gb memory, and 2 Xeon quadcore 2.33 mhz processors
I welcome any suggestions as to what could be causing the problem.

In PSE8 organizer, freeze selection and also program crashes.

Since the first installation, the organizer always crashes. Tried to uninstall it many times, but not working. I also rebuild my computer and make sure that I have the latest up-date. I have also the problem that, if I click outside the menu inside the organizer window, I'm not able to select anything. I'm only able to change photo by using the arrows. ???? I tried to troubleshoot using the guide but ...no go... Did someone have the same problem and how you have fix it? I'm discourage. I always have pse before and I had no problem. Now, I only want to put the program in the garbage...help....
