Organizer cannot find external drive

The organizer shows a disconnected external drive H/ in grey but the Drive containing images etc is external drive I\. Photoshop elements 6 has no problem with this but Premiere Elements 4 cannot see beyond the Drive H/.

If you have tried all the suggestions given so far without success here's a couple more:
Turn your computer off
Turn on all the external hard drives that you have connected at some time
Turn your computer on and see if that has fixed the drive letter assignment confusion in PrEl.
If there is still no joy then go through this procedure (this is for Vista but if memory serves me it's much the same in XP).
Exit PrEl first then right-click the 'My Computer' icon on your desktop and select 'Manage'.
If you get a Vista 'Windows needs your permission' box, click continue. This brings up the Computer Management window. Open up Storage and Select 'Disk Management'. This will bring you a graphical representation of your drives:
If you scroll down you will see other Disks 3, 4, 5, etc... What you are looking for is the one that has your pictures on it and the one that has 'stolen' the [I:] letter.
You must then change the drive letters so that the:
wrong [I:] is assigned a different letter
right [I:] icorrectly assigned to [I:]
WARNING: UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES CHANGE THE DRIVE CONTAINING WINDOWS (nearly always the [C:] drive).
To perform the letter assignment right-click the drive and select 'Change Drive Letter and Paths...'
This displays the following dialog from which you select 'Change':
Use the drop down box to select the wanted drive letter.
Hope this helps.

  • Imac cannot find external drive

My Imac cannot find the external drive I have attached.  I have used it many times before, but now it does not recognize that it is attached.  I have replaced the usb cable with not luck and changed ports.  Still no success.  I am backing up to the cloud, and would like to also back up to this hard drive.  Is this a setting issue with my Mac or do I have a bad hard drive?

In Preferences set the loaction of the library that should do the trick.
I have about 1TB of content on an external drive and it works sweetly ( drive needs to be turned on before launching iTunes ).

  • Boot from DVD but cannot find hard drive now

just updated to 10.7.3, then cannot boot from hard drive. I boot from DVD and cannot find hard drive now

Did the 10.7.3 update complete the installation process?
Some updates, when being installed and applied can restart (but not fully start up) the machine a couple of times.
I'd restart your machine and give it a few uninterrupted minutes to see if it boots up normally. Depending on the specs of your iMac, the remapping of app shortcuts etc can take a little while to complete (but not an excessive amount of time).
It is unlikely the update caused your hard drive to fail.
If your iMac doesn't boot up, restart and boot into the recovery partition of Lion by holding down both the cmd & R keys while booting. This will run Lion Recovery which will allow you to repair your Hard Drive, reinstall or install a fresh copy of Lion (network access is required).
If this fails, boot from the recovery DVD and launch Disk Utility from the Tools option in the toolbar and see if your hard drive is listed in Disk Utility. If your hard drive is not listed, there is a hard drive problem and you'll need to speak to Apple Tech Support to arrange a repair.
    Hope this helps

  • Cannot find hard drive

I was going to install leopard - failed - now computer cannot find hard drive - I tried to reinstall tiger cannot find hard drive so put disk warrior - finds hard drive says is it an extended adjusts everything - finds hard drive and says it is okay - any brain storms - I do have a back up hard drive hooked up to a very old IMAC to download the info so I can give it away - so I know I can use that to get to the infor on the hard drive in fact I can get to it through disk warrior

Make a clone of your HD then, while things are still good. Do you have a firewire drive or another internal drive you can make a clone to?
If you make a clone, you can then try to install Leopard and if it doesn't work again, reinstall the clone.

  • Time Machine can't find external drive after installing Lion

Time Machine can't find external drive after installing Lion. I have a Laice 1 terabyte external drive that worked fine with Snow Leopard and now no show ... tried connecting it to front port and Mac Pro can't see it. Also lost Office,Quicken, and Final Cut Pro  says: " You can't open application because Power PC apps are no longer supported" this is Not a good surprise!

Does the drive work when just directly connected? If so, have you prepped the drive?
    Extended Hard Drive Preparation
    1. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder. If you need to reformat your startup volume, then you must boot from your OS X Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger or Leopard.)
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area. If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing. SMART info will not be reported on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Set the number of partitions from the dropdown menu (use 1 partition unless you wish to make more.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID (only required for Intel Macs) then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the volume(s) mount on the Desktop.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.

  • HT201302 pc with Vista cannot find device driver software for 3GS

Windows Explorer cannot the iPhone.  iTunes sees the 3GS, the memory alloted to pictures, but does not show over 1500 pics.  iTunes only recognizes pics in files on PC.  There are under 50 in the files.
When I plug in the iPhone, it searches for the device driver, but cannot find one.
The iPhone is appearing in Control Panel / Auto Play.  Changing this setting makes no difference.
The iPhone also shows up in Control Panel / Device Manager as a Portable Device referred to as a Digital Still Camera, it has a yellow yield icon on it.  It says it has the correct driver. Also, below the camera listing is 5 other devices.  They are all the same listing of "Microsoft WPD FileSystem Volume Driver", they all have a yellow yield icon on them.
I have deleted all the portable devices and rebooted. They come back, however I have the same problem.
If have tried a number of things, if I recall I saw "Code 10" at one pont.  I do not remember the item it was attached to.  I will follow-up with more info as I can get.  I have had a 3GS for over 2 years.  Apple Care tried to help me very diligently on an other Vista machine and had no success.  Please Help, someone.

  • Tiger 10.4.3 Installer Cannot Find Destination Drive

I am trying to upgrade[finally] from 10.2.8 to 10.4.3 using the installer disc, but it cannot find my hard drive for it to install. I have run a repair[ Disk & Permissions] using Disk Utility, everythings fine. Have run an Apple Hardware check and again eveything fine. Through System Preferences/Startup Disk It sees my disc no problem and everything is running smoothly and quickly, so I'm a bit worried why the installer disc is unable to see my hard drive.
Any help with this would be much appreciated, Sorry if this query has been answered elsewhere, I had a good look before I added this entry and couldn't find an answer.
    Thanks for your time.
Power Mac G4 Quicksilver[Mirrored Drive Doors]   Mac OS X (10.2.x)

Had a go but the DVD's Disk Utility simply couldn't see my hard drive went on the System Profiler off the installer disc and again the only disc it could see was the DVD itself, No other ATA drive or Serial ATA drive. Rebooted the computer as normal and the system profiler saw the hard drive with no problem. I unplugged all peripheral hardware like DVD Burner, Scanner and Printer, and my Firmware is all up to date as your checklist suggested too.
Was wondering, my hard drive has it's jumper set to "Enable cable select", When starting from the Installer disc does that cause a conflict about which disc is master and results in the disc not being seen?
(Sorry if this is a silly suggestion, it doesn't take long for this technical stuff to baffle me, as you can tell)
    Thanks again for your help.

  • My airtunes cannot find external speekers

I connect my both computers (iMac G5 and the MacBook) with the Internet through the Airport. I just changed from and ADSL to BroadBand (moved to another apartment) and the Internet connection works fine. But since then my iTunes cannot find the external speekers any more. Yes, my audio system is properly plugged into the Airport Express device, as it used to be before, but neither of the computers seams to recognize it. Could anyone advise why it may be so, and what I need to change?
    Thanks,
    Zo

When you open iTunes down in the lower right hand corner of the bottom menu bar is a rectangular button that allows you to choose speakers, check there to make sure your system is recognizing the the speakers and choose them accordingly. Also since you moved apartments you might want to reset your Airport, although since you do have internet connection that probably isn't necessary. Do you just have one Express in the system or multiple?

  • Cannot unmount External drive for backup....help

I am trying to use a new My Passport external drive to backup.  I installed the mac os info however it says I must "erase" contents to use.  When I hit erase it says the drive "couldn't unmount".  Also tried to backup to the drive and it said "disk is not in Mac Os Extended (journaled) format.  Any ideas, I am not real familiar with this process.

    Hi KJM4,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. Based on what you stated, it sounds like you need to format the HD. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help the issue.
Final Cut Pro X, Motion 5, Compressor 4: Format drives as Mac OS Extended - Apple Support
Formatting a disk using the Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format
Important: If you have any files you want to save, be sure to back them up to another drive before you erase the drive they are on. Reformatting a drive will permanently erase all of the data on it.
From the Finder, click the Go menu and choose Utilities.
    Open Disk Utility.
Select the disk or partition and click Erase.
Choose a format from the Format pop-up menu. Choose Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
Type a name for the disk.
If you want to prevent the erased files from being recovered, click Security Options, select the option you want, and click OK.
    Click Erase.
    Cheers,
    Mario

  • Cannot Eject External Drive Using Space/Leopard

Since I installed Leopard, I find it very useful. But in order to eject the external drive, I must quit all applications (six), which forces me to open the same documents each time. Isn't there a way to eject the external drive so that I can keep my applications open in Spaces?

This issue got worse for me. I read a bunch of posts about troubles with Time Machine and Spaces, so I turned Spaces off on my computer and restarted it.
Time Machine immediately started working and did a small backup successfully. I tried to eject the disk to see if it would work and it did!
The problem now is that the computer won't recognize my USB drive after I ejected it. I plug it in and the drive will not show up in the Finder and the drive just keeps rhythmically clicking away. I've tried restarting my computer without luck. Also, the USB drive works normally on a different computer.
Finally, I turned Time Machine off and the drive immediately appeared in the Finder and is OK. The drive (a new FireLite formatted Mac OS Extended-Journaled) just won't work with Time Machine. For me, this all started after I turned on Spaces the first time.

  • Install / Use Organizer from an External Drive

Am I able to install and use the Elements Organizer on an external hard drive? I don't want to keep all my images on my laptop HD.
Am I able to put the images on the ext. HDD and then 'point' Organizer at them ~ OR ~ am I able to simply put the Elements Organizer
Application on the ext. HDD and load images into it and then be able to access it from my laptop?
I'm not able to locate a Discussion Group specifically for Elements Organizer. (?)

    Hi,
You've posted on the right forum
You should install PSE on the laptop hard disk and may have all your images on the external hard disk or local hard disk. Now in Organizer, you may import media from local/external hard disk. Organizer only keeps only references (image path, to be precise) only and hence your images may reside on external hard disk.
    Thanks

  • Finder & External Drive

I have a 120GB Western Digital External drive that I use almost daily that works just fine but whenever I open the Finder window to access the drive it opens to a folder that I use often. Not everyday but often. This gets a bit annoying because it not only opens with this folder but it also opens several folders deep which means I have to collapse the folders before I get to the folder I really want to access.
My question is, how do I default how the drive opens so that all the folders are collapsed?

Don't know what else to suggest. The problem is with your external drive, either the file structure or the drive itself. How are you formatting exFAT? If using your Mac, try formatting using a PC.
