Organizer crashed while writing metadata, now catalog isn't up-to-date

I have been tagging faces, moving tags around and changing dates on scanned photos in my 40K photo library. I was all finished organizing everything, and then asked PSE11 to write the metadata to files (ironically, to avoid losing all of my weeks of work). The organizer crashed while doing this, and when I reopened my catalog, it did not have much of the information I had spent so much time organizing. I'm not sure when it stopped saving changes, but it was at least a couple of days ago. My files all appear ok, but the database file is not up-to-date. I decided to make a copy of the database file so that I would have it just in case anything else happens while I try to figure out this mess, but the location found under Help>System Info doesn't even exist! I have 2 questions:
Is there any way to get back the 10+ hours of tagging and reorganizing work I put in; and
How can I find out where the catalog file is so that I can make a copy for safe-keeping? Currently the System Info says it should be here: /Users/my user name/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Elements Organizer/Catalogs/My Catalog 1/
I am on a mac running Mavericks. I already went into my Time Machine backup to find a previous version of the catalog, but no joy. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

iPod touch 3rd generation crashed while updating, and now it won't turn on, and it won't charge or be recognized in iTunes because it's completely dead; it's been dead for 3 days now. I've tried pressing home/sleep buttons for reset but nothing works, I've tried using different usb ports to charge it, but nothing seems to work. Please help asap. ...Thanks!(:

After charging the iPod for half an hour, see if placing the iPod in recovery mode will allow iTunes to see the iPod so you can restore the iPod.  For recovery mode see:

  • USB Drive not working since G5 crashed while writing to it

I was using my external hard drive to back up on, as usual. However, my G5 crashed while writing to the drive. And it hasn't worked ever since.
I have tried using the disk repair utility to re-partition the drive. But the progress bar goes to 2% and stays there, ie it starts trying to partition the drive and then literally sticks there.
The same thing happens on windows by the way. However, there is a utility from Maxtor which tests the drive and says it's physically fine.
Diskwarrior wasn't able to even recognise that the drive was there (yes it is plugged in! ;-p)
Hmmm... is there anything else I can try to get the drive formatted?
    Cheers
    Alan

By the way, I've tried to use Disk Warrior but it doesn't even recognise the drive as something it can test. Only the main hard drive comes up in the drop down list...

  • IDVD crashes while writing

So lately my IDVD program has been crashing while it writes whatever asset I've assigned to it. It goes through the encoding video/audio just fine, and it'll start writing, but before it manages to finish writing, or it gets to the Writing lead-out stage, it'll suddenly crash and that box will pop up and say, "iDVD quit unexpectedly".
I have been keeping my GBs above 25, so that's not the problem. Is there anything else I should do, or try?

    Hi
*Not knowing the origin to Your problem - General approach when in trouble is as follows.*
    • Free space on internal (start-up) hard disk if it is less than 10Gb should rather have 25Gb
    • Hard disk is untidy. Repair Permissions, Repair Hard disk (Apple Disc Util tool)
    • Delete iDVD pref file - *or rather start a new user/account* - log into this and re-try
iDVD pref file resides. Mac Hard Disk (start-up HD)/Users/"Your account"/Library/Preferences and is named.
    com.apple.iDVD.plist
While iDVD is NOT RUNNING - move this file out to desk-top.
    Now restart iDVD.
    • Program miss-match. iDVD 5.0.2, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.5.5 - is OK - DON’T work under Leopard
    • Program miss-match. iDVD 6.0.4, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.5.5 - is OK (might work under Leopard)
    • Program miss-match. iDVD’08 v. 7.0.1, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.5.5 - is OK (might work under Leopard)
    • iDVD (08) v7 Locate theme folder. Move out iDVD1, iDVD 2 and eventually iDVD4 folders to desktop - re-try
    • Try a Cleaning CD/DVD that cleans the laser lens on the DVD burner/player
iDVD 6.0.4 and iDVD 7.0.1 are compatible with Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard
Last resort. from Craig. Solved the problem!! Finally!!
I deleted every iDVD application and folder from my boot drive,
emptied the trash and then installed iDVD 08 using the customize option
and I am up and running.
If You do a re-install be sure to get rid of all iDVD old parts AND then EMPTY the Trash-basket !
    iDVD updated ?
    Apple Codec updated ?
Start a New Clean project - or delete project assets

  • My N73 crashed while writing a txt an now I got no...

During my txting frenzy with my friend tonight my phone crashed for the first time (i've only had the phone for a day) and when I went to the home screen, my 3 network ads are gone! I've reset the phone display settings an obviously it didn't do anything, an now I haven't a clue what to do! It's real late at night an I am hoping for some answers like asap rather than having to call 3 again for the hundreth time this weekend.
I don't want to reset my phone completely incase it doesn't let me use the phone at all let alone have the ads gone on my phone. I find the ads useful. I miss them!
Anyone know how to get them back? So annoyed right now!
    Hope someone can help! Thanks!

  • Preview crashed while printing PDF, now can't get rid of PDF.

Hello, I need some help. The other day, I was making a PDF out of individual images in Preview, and while I was 'printing'/saving it as a PDF, I noticed that it was taking an abnormally long time. Preview then crashed. I tried to open the PDF, which I had saved to my Desktop, but I got (and still get) this error:
+Couldn’t open the file. It may be corrupt or a file format that Preview doesn’t recognize.+
I tried to delete it, so that I could start over again without having the same named file on my desktop, but when I empty the trash, I get the following error:
+The operation cannot be completed because the item "Acts 7.pdf" is in use.+
I would like to get rid of this thing, and make a new file once I redownload the images. Any assistance in deleting this, or at least finding out why it won't open, would be appreciated. Thank you!

If you tap on the PDF you should get a Done button appear at the top left of the screen

  • Help: "There was an unknown error while writing metadata to this photo" file-by-file???

I see exclamation marks in the top right hand corner of every thumbnail in the library. When I click that exclamation mark I get the above error message. Now, this can be resolved by clicking "Retry Metadata Export", but this only seems to work on a file-by-file basis. How can I do this for hundreds of files all at once?
    Thanx for your help.

Try, Selecting all affected. Then do XMP/Export. THis may do the multi trick. With luck a future release will take care of this problem of dealing with many such files.

  • Thunderbird crashed while compacting folders, now I'm missing all my old mail in one of my sub-folders

I'm using Thunderbird 31.1.2 with MacOS 10.8.5. After the compacting folders failed I saw all the sub-folders restored except one, which came up empty. I've tried restoring the folder but none of the old files seem to exist there. There has never been a problem with T-bird crashing before this. Is there an archive I can find the deleted files in to restore?

  • Acrobat 8 Pro crashing while when connection to AD isn't active

Basically on a laptop with Mobile Account, launching Acrobat causes it to crash within 10 seconds. Back in the office and connected, it's fine. I'm assuming it has something to do with the home folder and preferences but not sure how to address. I should mention that it doesn't matter what OS is used as my users are all on Leopard MacBooks but I'm testing at home with a PowerBook running Tiger...same problem.
    Thanks.

is the home directory a local or on the server?

  • My iPhone 5 crashed while updating and now wont turn on!

I recently tried to download and update the latest iOS release using my computer with my iPhonwe plugged in.
The installation was going fine until the download finished and it automatically tried to restart my iPhone. When this happened my iPhone began showing the instruction picture to plug my iPhone into itunes. It stayed like this for a long time and would not do anything. Eventually i got the error messages through iTunes informing me there had been an error with the installation and that i needed to retry.
Upon trying to reset my iPhone (switching it on and off) it showed the same picture, but when plugged into my computer was not showing up in iTunes. I have since fully reinstalled itunes twice, but still there is nothing happening. My iPhone is stuck on the "connect to itunes" picture and will not do anything else.
Does anybody know what this means and any possible way to fix it?
Thanks in advance and sorry for the hectic post, i'm expecting a few important calls and feel very rushed!

  • Unknown Error Writing Metadata

Scenario: After editing photos in Lightroom I select a bunch to be edited in Photoshop CS3 beta, editing a copy with Lightroom adjustments. In Photoshop the only thing I do is run a batch that runs Noiseware then saves and closes each file. After doing this, about 70-80% of the completed files have an exclamation in the upper right hand corner of the photo in the Lightroom thumbnail. Clicking on the exclamation point displays this error message - "There was an unknown error while writing metadata to this photo - retry?" Comparing metadata between the raw photo and the tiff reveals no difference in metadata. The only difference is that the affected tiffs are not rotated for display properly. If I click on the "Retry Metadata Export" button the exclamation point goes away, but the thumbnail still needs to me rotated manually. Anybody seen this one?

Yep, LR see a discrepancy and wants to know how to fix it instead of asuming an overwrite. Otherwise edits elsewhere may be inadvertantly overode before you ask Lr to read them.

Are you running any background tasks such as Auto-Analysis or face recognition.
If so; it’s worthwhile turning them off temporarily by going to Edit >>Preference from the Organizer menu.

  • Garageband crashing while saving

    Hi all,
I was working on a track on Garageband today on my ipad when it suddenly crashed while saving. Now whenever I open it up, it goes back to that song and won't save - so I can't access all my other files! There's an awful lot of work on those files and I really want to get them back but I've no idea how. I've tried switching ipad off and back on, but that hasn't worked - and the files aren't synced up to my PC as I haven't had access to it for a while.
Is there a way to get back to the main screen on garageband? Please someone help, this is so frustrating!
    Thanks
    PS

Sad to say this has now happended to me twice.
Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers

You may want to try Disk Warrior to repair the directory of the drive.
