I am trying to add folders containing pictures to PSE8. The folder in question has a lot of subdirectories that I do not want to include. But the "include subdirectories" checkbox is grayed out UNTIL I select the entire directory -- at which point, Organizer tells me I'm trying to load too many files and the system freezes up and I have to use control-

Have you looked checked in ''Tools > Options > Applications'' to see if you have told Firefox to always save the file? You should take a look at the [[Options window - Applications panel]] Knowledge Base article for details.
If you set Firefox to always ask and it doesn't, you may want to check out the [[Preferences are not saved]] article.

Crashing on Mac When Trying to Import?

I just installed the CS5 master collection on my Macbook today, and I have been having a weird problem with After Effects. Whenever I go to import a video (File -> Import), the program will either freeze or crash. The weird thing is, it's about half and half. Half the time the program will crash and give this message: http://i194.photobucket.com/albums/z60/Lukargo/Picture2.png and the other half the program will just freeze and I need to force quit to get out of it.
I tried updating and re-installing the application, but it was to no avail. Any idea what could be going on here?

EDIT: It seems I can narrow the problem down at least a little further. The error only happens if I click Music, Pictures, or Movies in the left pane when looking for a file to import. If I have a file on the desktop, for example, it will allow me to get there and import it. I was only able to figure this out because Import Multiple Files defaults to a folder that is, thankfully, not in the music, pictures, or movies view.

There's a known bug in the Finder that causes crashes in some applications when the Finder is in certain view modes. This might be related.
I don't recall whether we made progress on working around that bug in the 10.0.1 update or not, but you should install the update anyway.
If you don't mind, please submit a bug report and include a screenshot that shows the Finder. If you want to submit a bug report with an attachment, you can send it to aebugs -a-t adobe -d-o-t com. Bug reports without attachments can go through here.

My computer crashed and I am trying to import an existing book

my hard drive crashed and i have everything saved, but now i want to import an existing book that i have done into a new install of lightoom.

I have an ibm think pad with windows 7. my hare drive crashed and i have replaced it and re-loaded all the software and have ir running beautifully. I have re-installed all the pix that were in the program and would like to put a book that i had done back in without having to re-do it. I should be able to take one of the lightroom config files and do that, my prolbem is that i don't know which one and how. Thanks for any help

Captivate 4 crashes after recording, while trying to import

I have encountered a problem with Captivate 4 when recording new slides into a project. It will record the slides I want, however, when it is in the process of importing into the project, I get a message stating, an error has occurred and would need to shut down. I have tried the following ways to find the problem, but still haven't found a solution. 1) I created a new blank project and copied all the slides into that project. That worked a while, then the problem reappeared. 2) I tried creating smaller files and then importing them into the larger file, this didn't work. 3) I have just completely reinstalled all the software on my system, including my windows XP OS, and still the problem exist.
I have a Dell Latitude E6500 with 2.72GB available physical memory, 1.96GB Available virtual memory. X86-based PCprocessor is x86 Family 6 Model 23 Stepping 10 GenuineINtel 2659 MHz. I also have the creative suite in my system.
I would appreciate any help with this problem, I am working on a project and have already been delayed a month, trying to fix the problem.

The "corruption" of the entire .cp file seems to occur when we click record, get
our screen captures, end the recording and then it gets stuck on the Importing dialog box and the error below appears.
Going forward, regardless of what we try to record, the error occurs. Trying to insert a slide or copy/paste a slide causes the error to appear as well.
I have gotten around the error by using a screen capture program, strating a new project, pasting the image into captivate, and then merging the image into the background. This avoids me from having to go through the recording process. I just finished a 80 slide project this way and while it was a little more time, it got done without any probelms.
I have a file I can send you, I blanked out all the slides to remove any private information and tested it with the error still occuring. How can I send you the file?

Imovie not responding after trying to import big file.

I have been attempting to import a large file onto imovie, and just before the file is finished and says that it will be imported in "under a minute" It will say that imovie is not responding. I've tryed restarting my macbook, and trying again with the same result. This is frustrating because I have uploaded a lot of home videos in which I need to edit and get onto dvd. please help!

How do you define 'large'? iMovie is designed to handle DV streams running at 13GB per hour!
What is the source of those files? What kind of files are they?
How would you be able to find out how much space you have free?
That really is pretty basic stuff. Every time you open a new Finder window it will tell you at the bottom of the window!
You don't say what Mac you have, and why are you still on 10.4.10 instead of updating to 10.4.11?
For iMovie to work at its best you need at least 20GB of free space.

HT4628 I have internet at school, but i cannot connect because i've tried entering a password in before, and they changed the password. So now when i try and connect, it will just fail to connect and not ask me to enter the password in for the network.

Ive tried to connect to the school wi-fi before, and it failed. now i just got given the password and i can't even connect to it, because it won't give me the enter password option. And i can't even forget the network because its not saved on my mac!
So now whenever im at school, it will try and attempt to connect to the school wifi, but always fail due to an issue? and i don't have the option to re-enter password! Even tho the network isnt saved on my macbook!

Nyxaelia, you can create a new Location in the Network System Prefs where you could have one setup for school and one setup for home. When you have more than one Location in Network, you will get a Locations menu in the Apple Menu where you can switch easily between the two.
On the Location popup menu, select Edit Locations. Select Automatic, then select Duplicate Location from the gear menu button. Rename each one for the specific location, and set each one up as required.

That's not a photo file; it's a compressed container which could contain almost anything.
Where did you download it from? Was it shown as a photo in Google Images or one of the other search sites?

I have recently upgraded my PRE/PSE bundle to ver 7 primarily because the new version of PRE boasts support for AVCHD.
Having installed the new software I quickly tried editing footage in PRE7 with video taken on my Sony HDR SR12 camera (footage taken in full 1920x1080i HD) and it works! Hoorah! I can now finally edit AVCHD footage in it's native format using PRE. Thank you Adobe!
But my joy was very shortlived because when I tried to import some other footage from the same batch into my PSE7 Video Catalog it wouldn't work. I got a pop up box containing the following error:
i "Nothing was imported. The file(s) or folder(s) selected to import did not contain any supported file types, or the files are already in the catalog."
Under this message is a list of the files that I tried to import. Next to each one there is a reason (it's the same reason for each clip):
i "Reason: The file is damaged or is a format that cannot be included in the Organizer."
To import files I use the following method: File / Get Photos and Videos / From Files and Folders
HOWEVER, the files that I imported directly into PRE7 in order to edit them have (surprise, surprise!) automatically been added PSE7 Organizer's Catalog. It takes a quite a while to generate a thumbnail for each clip but it does eventually do it and when it does I can play that footage in PSE7.
Just in case you're confused by this stage... If I try and manually add files to the PSE7 Organizer it doesn't work BUT if I edit that footage in PRE7 and then load the PSE7 Organizer I see the footage has been automatically added. This makes no sense whatsoever!
Am I doing something really stupid here? Why oh why will the PSE7 Organizer not import .MTS (AVCHD) files?!
NB: While searching for a solution to this problem I have, thanks to this Forum, found out about the K-Lite Codec Pack. I downloaded and installed the Basic pack v4.4.5 and now I can, at least, play my .MTS video files in Windows Media Player... I wish I had found out about that a couple of months ago because it would have saved me from buying Cyberlink PowerDVD 8!
Please someone help before I lose the plot.

As you've probably gathered I have now settled on using Sony's Picture Motion Browser (PMB) to Catalog all my video. Sorry Adobe to talk about someone elses product but the Adobe Organizer just can't cope with AVCHD footage no matter how you manage to import it! It's far too sluggish and my PC has an Intel Core i7 940 CPU with 6GB RAM and a 10,000 RPM HDD!
Anyway, in my first post you'll have read me raving about the K-Lite Codec Pack but sadly I've had to uninstall it because it kept on causing PMB to crash. PMB runs much smoother and quicker WITHOUT that codec pack. Something about it clashed with PMB. The once agile PMB became sluggish and unresponsive.
Having now removed the codec pack PMB is back to being agile and generaly lovely.
To view AVCHD footage outside of PMB I have reverted to using Cyberlink's PowerDVD 8 - there's always a pregnant pause between double-clicking on the clip and it playing but that's the only drawback.
If you are going to use Sony's PMB for cataloging your video collection (and I recommend you do so BUT only if you have AVCHD footage - otherwise stick to Adobe's Organiser) then I can fully recommend "Analyzing" all of your footage. This takes time and a bit of patience because it kept stopping for no apparent reason but would readily start up again (without having to do anything else) BUT once it's done it'll reward you with the following:
*Filter on any combination of Scenery, People, Smiles - e.g. with a click of a button you can isolate footage that contains smiles, etc
*Face Search - if you select some or all of the footage in the right-hand pane it will then put a small thumbnail for all of the different faces in that selected footage in the bottom "Face Search" pane. If you then click on one of those thumbnails it will jump to the clip(s) that contain that face and grey out all the other clips
*Expand Videos - This tool is brilliant! In normal viewing mode you get a thumbnail of the video whether you're in Folder view, Calender view or Detail List view. If, however, you select "Expand Videos" from the tool bar it will show you a series of frames contained within that clip. You can choose from "Highlights" or various regular intervals (5 secs, 10 sec, 30 sec, 1 min, etc). The Highlights option does a pretty good job of picking out the significant changes within the clip
Lastly, I have discovered that you can drag a clip from Sony's PMB into PRE7. It won't let you put it directly onto the Timeline but it will let you drop it into the Project file list (found under the Edit tab).
I do hope that this info has helped others like me who are trying to get to grips with editing and cataloging AVCHD footage.

Photoshop Elements 13 Organizer crashes when launched

I installed Photoshop Elements 13 a few days ago on my brand-new HP Envy laptop (Windows 8.1). I imported photos from two external hard drives, and experimented with tagging a few photo sets. I unplugged one of the hard drives, did some more tagging, and while I was tagging the Organizer crashed. When I tried to relaunch it, it crashed immediately after loading the catalog. After a restart, I relaunched the Organizer, and it stalled for several minutes while loading the catalog, then crashed as soon as the catalog was loaded. I've attempted to restart and relaunch several times and it always crashes immediately upon loading the catalog.

I do not have any version of Premiere Elements installed.
I never removed any files. This is a clean installation from a couple months ago when I got my new hard drive.
That file is located at "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Elements 12 Organizer\mc_codecs\mc_demux_mp2_ds.ax":

Premire crashes when i scroll after i import a video

When ever i imprt a video into adobe premire pro cc i scroll up to see what clip i want it crashes. its not the file because i also tried to import a fraps video that i made into premire and when i scrolled up its just crashed. Photoshop Elements 12 Organizer Crashing When Trying To Import Photos

Just downloaded and started using PSE 12 Editor and Organizer about a week ago. (An upgrade fron PSE11). Today for whatever reason, when trying to import any file, say from my desktop or a download foler, the list of locations to import appears for a second, then disappears. I am unable to do any other action and have to quit or force quit. In PSE Editor, I am able to open a file, but when trying to save it, I get an error that "Could not complete your request due to a Program Error". I use a Mac and just recently upgraded to OS Maverick. Anyone having the same issue or can suggest a potential fix? I also tried using PSE 11 and run into the same problem. Thanks.

It's very important to delete the existing preferences on upgrading to Mavericks.

and then for the organizer anything like com.Adobe.Elements Organizer.12.0.plist. You'll find at least two files with the number for the organizer entered differently.
Those files are all in your user>library>preferences folder. Here's how to see it in 10.9:

While you're in there go to the Saved Application States folder and clean out anything related to PSE.
Repair permsisions and try again.

IPhoto nightmare. Tried to import photos using Nikon software for the first time and all my photos disappeared from iPhoto 8.1.2 (and everything from itunes too). Newly reinstalled iPhoto crashes as soon as I import anything now.

Macbook OSX 10.5.8, iPhoto 8.1.2. I just tried to import some photos using Nikon software (View NX2) for the first time. When I next looked into iPhoto it was empty (so was iTunes but that's another story). I had backed up photos fairly recently but don't use time machine. Searched in vain everywhere and must have done something wrong because iPhoto wouldn't then open at all, saying it was unreadable. After a lot more attempts to recover I uninstalled iPhoto and the receipts and reinstalled from my original disc. It seemed to be ok and imported some photos from my iphone but as soon as the import is complete iPhoto crashes and when opened again it is empty. Have tried this several times and have shut down and have tried rebuilding with the alt and cmd buttons but nothing seems to help. Any ideas?

not a reply but not sure how to add something to my own thread! It seems that Desktop was damaged too as when I try to open it a screen says there is no application selected to open Desktop with. No idea what I should choose! Any help appreciated, have really made a mess of my MacBook this time.

PSE 10 organizer crashes when more than 600 imported photos

First I imported 2200 photos and tried to use the facial recognition. After a while the organizer shut down with no error warning.
Further attempts to start failed.
Only chance by pressing shift+alt+ctrl and creating a new catalogue.
I'm working with WinXP SP3, memory 2GB and a 1,8 GH dual core processor.

I am having similar problems.
First my specs. I have a two-month old HP p6722f with 64-bit Windows 7 Pro, 6GB RAM, 3GHz Athlon quad processors. My C drive (windows system drive) has 788 GB free space. The other internal drive where all of my photos are located has 841 GB free space. There are 13,269 images (45GB) that Elements 10 is trying to import.
I have tried this import from my newly installed Elements 10 at least a dozen times. I have rebooted fresh several times. I have set the affinity to just one processor, and i have rotated which processor I used with each failure. I have set the affinity to two processors as well as all 4. I have turned off all Media Analysis features in Preferences. I have made sure no other apps are running during the import. I have used Task Manager to monitor my system during the import. The CPU usage stays between 20-28%. The RAM usage stays around 1.96 to 2.08 GB (I have 6GB RAM). The import fails anywhere from 45% to 95%, but mostly at 95%. Even after 95% the popup indicates that I should have at least 95% of the images imported. But there is never a single one imported.
I have read on these and many other forums that lots of people are having the same problem. Here is my theory...
This software STINKS! My computer has pretty strong specs, certainly way more than the minimum to run this program. My image collection is rather small. For $99 I expect way more, especially from a company with Adobe's history. I have not had any issues with crashing from the several other dozen apps on my system (including some resource heavy apps like video editing programs and the old Photoshop 6.0). Having to jump through all of these hoops with affinity settings and the like just to get nowhere is embarrasing on Adobe's part. Just for kicks I downloaded the free Picasa 3. It imported my 13k+ images in about 5 minutes with no issues. So there is nothing wrong or corrupt with any of my images that Elements should be choking on. So after messing around with Elements for over an hour I still do not have a single image in my catalog. Sure, I can try importing my hundreds of image folders one by one and try to figure out more about what is going on. but doesn't that totally defeat the purpose of a photo management system? I might as well just continue to use well-named folders in Windows Explorer as my "management" system if I have to go to those lengths.
I watched all of the videos on the Adobe site about all of the awesome features in the new Elements 10. Does Adobe understand that you actually have to be able to import the images into the application to manipulate them? This has been a bad experience from start to finish and I am not going to waste any more time on this poor implementation of their new software. How about a little QC Adobe before asking $100 for your software?

Keychain access keeps crashing while trying to import a new certificate

I have been having trouble with trying to import a certificate to my Macbook Pro but everytime I go to Import the certificate via: File --> Import... Keychain access keeps crashing on me. Has anyone else been experiencing this?

Please provide the exact version of Premiere Pro CC that you are using, you can check this by going to Premiere Pro menu. Also, this type of crash might be because of the Graphics display drivers. So, please check the Graphics Card installed on your MAC and the version of the MAC that you are using.
