Organizing albums into one album

We are new to the Mac world and have a large number of pictures to be organized,
In iPhoto, are you able to create "sub-albums"? For example, if we have photos of a number of related events, like football games in a season, can we have an album "Football Games 2010" with a number of albums within it like "Football Game 1", "Football Game 2", etc?
If iPhoto won't do this, is there another software application for the Mac that will?
Thanks in advance!

Like Terence suggested you can create a folder/album hierarchy like this:

  • Organizing music into one album

Hi I'm another person who has problems with his music from the same albums being put in separate albums. One example is my Ruff Ryder Vol. 1 album. I keep getting multiple albums from the same album. What I mean is that I can never get the whole album together. They're separated. And I've been reading the other topics and went to the link that addressed this problem. I've selected all of the songs for this album and right clicked and went to album info. And I've typed in Ruff Ryders by album artist and checked the box for compilation. And then I hit ok. And still nothing happens. Then when I do it again, it's like the changes that I made don't exist. And so I end up redoing it over and over, and I haven't gotten any closer to grouping the songs in to one album. Can anybody help and tell me what I'm doing wrong because I'm getting really frustrated. Thanks

Sounds like you may not have proper right permissions for the iTunes folder? Check that first.
As a test, pick one song from that album and give it a totally bogus name for the artist like "Bogus", hit OK, start to play song. Does it change back to what it was? If you do a Get Info is "Bogus" still listed or did it go back to what it was?

  • How can I consolidate a Various Artist album into one album?

When I imported a Various Artists CD to Itunes, it brought up an icon for each individual song in the album menu.  Is there a way to consolidate them back into one individual album?

Got it answered from another post, thanks.

  • How do I sync an album that downloaded into two albums into one album?

I downloaded the album La Musica No se Toca onto my windows computer and synched it to my ipad.
The problem is the first song by the same title appears as its own album.
Of course, I want to hear the song with the rest of the album.
I've tried using the "info" tab and marking "yes" this is part of a compilation, but to no avail.
    What am I doing wrong?

Make sure that at least one of the following is true:
the values of the Artist and Album fields for all songs are identical (standard for any album where all songs are by the same artist)
the values of the Album Artist and Album fields for all songs are identical (used for cases where one artist is responsible for the album, but some tracks may have variations to note guest performers, etc.)
the value of the Album field is identical, and the "Album is a compilation ..." flag is set for all songs (one possible approach to handing compilation albums of tracks by multiple artists)
Its also a good idea to check that the values of Sort Album and Sort Artist or Sort Album Artist are set identically.
Note that iTunes 12 seems to be more sensitive than previous releases in the way that it does grouping - for example, its possible that stray spaces or non-printing characters may disrupt grouping.  If it seems that one or more of the rules above are satisfied, but the album is still not correctly grouped, try selecting all the tracks, right-click > Get Info, and add a couple of "dummy" characters (e.g., "xx") to the end of the Artist, Album Artist (if used) and Album fields.  If this results in the songs being correctly grouped, re-edit the album information and remove the "dummy" characters - hopefully the correct grouping should be preserved.

  • Can you sort multiple albums into one single album....?

So my situation is like this...
I have multiple albums from one specific Band (in this case its music from Shin Megami Persona.) I have all 8 albums sorted separately in Itunes. When it is sync'd to my Iphone it will show all of them in order which is typical. What I am curious about is if I can put the Albums into one Album name and when I click it, it will then show the 8 albums. Basically, this is for the sake of not having a lengthy album list on the iphone.
If my question/explanation was unclear, maybe this might help.
My current Album list looks like this:
    Albums- P
    Paramore
    Persona Reincarnation
    Persona 3 OST
    Persona 4 OST
    Persona 3 FES OST
    Persona 3 Portable OST
    Persona Music Live 2008
    Persona Music Live 2009
    Persona Music Live Band
    Pink Floyd Greatest Hits
    ect... ect...
What I would like is for it to be like this:
    Album-P
    Paramore
Persona Sountracks <------ click on this
    Pinkfloyd Greatest Hits
    ect...ect...
    Clicking leads to below
    Persona Soundtracks:
    Persona Reincarnation
    Persona 3 OST
    Persona 4 OST
    Persona 3 FES OST
    Persona 3 Portable OST
    Persona Music Live 2008
    Persona Music Live 2009
    Persona Music Live Band
I've been able group them all together by changing them all to the same album name but it just leads to a extremely lengthy list of songs. So if there is anyway to sort by the way I explained above, I am open for suggestions. Thanks!!!1!1!1!1

Thanks. That was very easy and works perfectly. Do you know if I can get my 08 edited footage back into 06 for some additional editing without exporting as a Quicktime movie that I can't edit? I want to add audio tracks that I can edit in synch with my video footage like I can in 06. Thanks!

  • Accidentally dropped 600 songs into one album!!

I have accidentally dropped 600 songs - all from different albums - into one album. The only remaining meta data for each song left is the name. Is there a program or way I can get the songs to be arranged at least roughly into there previous album folders? Or is the only solution to go through each song individuelly and change the meta data like album name/artist etc?
    Tks for any suggestions!

In iTunes an "album" is any collection of tracks with the same Album title and the same Album Artist, or Artist if Album Artist is blank, or for which Part of a compilation is true. This can be further complicated by inappropriate values in the various sort fields. See Grouping tracks into albums for more.

    Hello Jr45,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
Instead of having me try to explain this one, check out this wonderfully written article by another forum member turingtest2 on organizing content in iTunes. It should be able to assist you with this situation.

  • I have photos I want to group together in one album, but can't do this because some may have the same number. How can I combine them all into one album?

I have photos I want to group together in one album, but can't do this because some may have the same number. How can I combine them all into one album? I was trying to move several albums onto a USB drive and it stated all other files exist at this location.  They are pictures taken at different times and have the same number I guess.

In iPhoto albums may contain photos with the same file name - iPhoto handles that just fine
If you are exporting them to move somewhere else use the sequential file name feature of export to give each file a unique name

  • A music album is listed multiple times in my library but each listing only has a few songs in it-not the full listing.  How can I combine them into one album and get rid of other duplicate listings?

Several music albums listed in my IPhone 5 music library are listed multiple times, but each one only has a portion of the songs listed.  How can I combine them to make one album?

First....Thank you so much for your prompt reply.  I am sorry for not getting back to you regarding your suggestion-I had computer issues that just got resolved.  Also, this is my first foray into online chat rooms so I have a lot to learn to precisely state my issue!  I did as you suggested and all the songs list the same album when I go into each song's "get info".  However, I am not sure how to edit as you suggested. When I downloaded this album originally, for some reason it broke up into several albums each with different songs from the original album.  I am trying to consolidate them back into one album in my library.  I would greatly appreciate further assistance if you can.  Also, I do not use "the cloud" to store any data and would like a good source of info on how to do this.  Thanks so much for your patience!

  • How do you merge multiple songs into one album?

When I added a downloaded album to iTunes, it created one album for each track. How do I merge all of these albums/tracks into one album?

Some albums will fracture into a million pieces if you have different artist names. How the columns are sorted can effect this.
If it is a multiple artists on one album select 'Compilation' in the options section for all of the songs on the album.
NOTE: You need to have multiple items selected to set this flag!

  • Songs in my Itunes show up as separate folders.  How do I combine them into one album?

Songs in my Itunes show up as separate folders.  How do I combine them into one album?

Is this one of those CDs where the main artist asks their friend to sing a song with them?
Such as, Slash's new album. Track 1 is "Slash Feat. Ian Astbury", track 2 is "Slash Feat. Ozzy Osbourne" and so on.
To fix this, select all the tracks on that album, right-click > Get Info, and say YES to changing multiple items.
Put "Slash" in the *Album Artist* field (for this example, of course).
Make sure it is the *Album Artist* field, not the plain Artist field.

  • When I import a commercial CD itunes will create 2 identical albums and put all of the songs except one into one album and put the other song into the other album by it self. How can I combine them all into one album and why is itunes doing this?

When I import a commerical CD Itunes will create 2 identical albums and put all of the songs except one into one album and put the other song into the second album that it created.  Why is itunes doing this and what can I do to combine them into one album?

I found this to be somewhat helpful: Grouping Tracks into Albums
What I did was to put in the same name for Album Artist in every track.  That seemed to do the trick (previously all those fields were empty).  It seems like a lot of work for a simple thing.
iTunes knows (or should know) that these tracks were imported from one CD. So why is it relying on incomplete data from the gracenote database?

  • HT2905 I have duplicate albums but no duplicate songs.  One song showing in one album, the restof the songs in a duplicate album.  How do I get them to merge into one album?

I have duplicate albums but no duplicate songs.  One song showing in one album, the rest of the showing in a duplicate album.  Album, artist, genre all identical.  how can I get these albums to merge together into one album?

Change the album title to AlbumX, apply, then change back to Album. Repeat as necessary.

  • How do i put multiple albums into one huge album collection?

How do i put multiple albums into one huge album collection?
Some examples include: Linkin Park - Studio Collection, Michael Jackson - The Indisposable Collection

    Hi skullkrunch3r,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If you "Get Info" on the tracks that are part of your collection, you can use the Compilation option in iTunes.
In iTunes 8 and later, you find the option to mark multiple items as "Part of a compilation" in the Options tab of the Multiple Item Information window.
See this article for more information on marking your albums as part of a compilation:
Why aren't songs with the same album art grouped together?

  • HT1819 [Podcast] mix all the imported mp3 files into one Album

    Dear Sir,
I need your help of the app [Podcast].
    Let me explain my problem.
I enjoying listening to Audiobooks very much.
Everytime I use the iTunes to import some mp3 stories into my iPhone, then change their properties from MUSIC to AUDIOBOOKS. Because I like the convenience of the very two buttons ( 15 seconds of fast backward jumping, and 15 seconds of forward jumping).
But I cannot easily delete those mp3 files that I've just heard. The only way is to erase the whole album in SETTINGS.  (I have a bad memory, always forgot which one that I have heard)
Then, I found the app [Podcast], it has all the functions that I need:
      one, 15 seconds of fast backward & farward jumping;
      two, very convenient (sleeping) timer function;
three, I can easily delete each mp3 file that I've just heard so I know where CAN I continue.
So, I love the app [Podcast], from then on, through the iTunes, I change the properties of my mp3 stories from MUSIC to PODCASTS. It's very easy to operate.
But, then I found something strange: the app [Podcast] mixes every mp3 files together, into one ALBUM, in spite of the ALBUM informations that I defined in EACH mp3 tags.
The app [Music] can classify each ALBUM of those imported AUDIOBOOKS, why can't [Podcast]?
Could you please show me what to do?
    Thank you very much.
    Yours,
    ZJH

This is EXACTLY my problem....and I am disheartened that there is NO reply with fix for this.  I need to find another app to use.  I like to use the podcast app for audio files so I can listen to them in 1.5x or 2x speed.  Frustrated....
