Organizing and finding music

Hello, hope you can help. Some basic questions I'm sure, but I can't figure this out. I'm running itunes 7.5.
1. In itunes, all artists are displayed in the music directory. Great. But on my ipod, some are missing under the Artists list. I can find their songs and albums, but not the artist names. Some are imported from cd, some dl'd from itunes store. Checked "Get Info" on the tracks, all the artist info shows up just like the ones that are listed fine. Reset ipod using the 5R's, resynched. No change.
2. Artists listed as performing with others, but on the same cd or downloaded album, are broken out separately. Like "Bobby Joe Bob" and then "Bobby Joe Bob and The Three Not So Famous Tenors" and "Bobby Joe Bob and Martha Stewart Yodle." How can I get it all listed under Bobby Bob? That would shorten up the ipod scrolling.
3. I imported some language cds. Problem is they show up in music. How can I list them separately so they won't play during shuffle? Kinda weird to get a good shuffle going, work on the mac and bang! "Lesson 5, How to Meet People in Hebrew."

*But on my ipod, some are missing under the Artists list. I can find their songs and albums, but not the artist names*
There are usually two things that contribute to songs not appearing under Artist on the iPod, both due to information either in or missing from the Get Info>Info tab against the song in iTunes. 1) the song has no album name associated with it or 2) the song is marked as part of a compilation.
If tracks are missing an Album name in the Info tab, this information needs to be filled in. The no album one is a bit quirky as the songs will appear under certain circumstances (for instance I read somewhere that if you have at least two tracks with different album names the rest will appear), however the simplest remedy is just add None or Miscellaneous to all the blanks in place of a title. See this link for more detail: I don't see some of my songs when browsing by artist on my iPod
Also if the tracks are ticked in the Get Info>Info tab as part of a compilation, they will not appear under Artist on the iPod. Highlight a song in iTunes that you know is not appearing correctly on your iPod. Right click on it and choose Get Info and click the Info tab (alternatively choose Get Info from the File menu), if "Part of a Compilation" is marked untick it and afterwards update your iPod, you should find it now appears as normal. Setting "Compilations" on your iPod main menu prevents you getting lots of single artist entries when you load an album by various artists.
*Artists listed as performing with others, but on the same cd or downloaded album, are broken out separately*
Try putting the primary artists name in the Album Artist field in the Get Info>Info tab

Hopefully you moved the entire iTunes Media (or iTunes Music) folder to a new path on your external drive. Copy your iTunes library folder out to the root of the external drive, e.g. X:\iTunes (where X: is your external drive), then move the media folder inside it. Hold down shift as you start iTUnes and keep holding untila asked to choose or create a library. Choose the library at X:\iTunes\iTunes Library.itl. Should all be good.
Failing that, download and run my FindTracks script and point it at the new location of your media folder.

  • How do I find music that has been uploaded to iTunes from a purchased CD and iTunes is "unable to find the original file?" I no longer have the CD. I have tried all the usual methods of looking in my iTunes library and through Find. No Luck.

    Backup drive?

If neither of the above and you don't have the CD and can't find your tracks on the computer then they you're stuck.  A file recovery utility will cost $100, plus another $100 for an external drive to which to resue the files, and may not even work.  You can buy a lot of CDs for $200.

This explains how to do what you want to do. It was written for an iPhone or an iPod Touch, but the process is the same for an iPad.

  • Updated my itouch gen 4 32g to Ios 5 and now itunes can't find music files

I did a search and could not find anything about my specific issue.  I was hoping to get some help if possible.
So I did the update to IOS 5 and everything went fine..........except for one thing.  I have all my music stored on an external hard drive so I changed the media folder location to my external drive.  When I did the update IOS changed the location to "C:\users\name\music\itunes\itunes media folder".  I figured this is why itunes could not find the files.  So I switched it back to my external drive and it still could not find my music files.  The weird thing is that I can sync it and it won't delete the music from my ipod.  All of the music is still on the ipod but not on itunes.  I know I can manually go in and find all the folders but I REALLY don't want to have to do that.  I have done it before and it took 7 hours.  Since I don't use all the files I can't just drag the library over and problem solved.
One other strange thing that happened:  After I did the update I downloaded an app off of the the appstore in itunes.  This is the first app that I downloaded off of itunes and not straight off my ipod.  I then recieved an email from apple saying it had been downloaded on a computer or device not associated with my apple id (which makes no sense seeing how the id on my ipod is the same as on itunes).
If anyone has a suggestion on how to fix the music problem, I am all ears.  Thanks.

Once a track is in your iTunes library, you should not touch it except through iTunes. But I guess you know that now.
iTunes, to answer your question, cannot "refresh." If you re-add those files to your library, iTunes is unable to match them with the existing library entries, and will create a bunch of duplicate entries. This is a longstanding shortcoming of iTunes (and the source of lots of traffic on this fourm).
If there are "too many to manually" reassociate, then starting over, in the sense of deleting and then re-adding, may be a good plan.

  • I'd like to sync my iTouch and iPad with my PC, and have the content (both iTunes and uploaded music) on the devices override the content on the PC, but cannot seem to find a option to do that. Can anyone help me?

I had to have my PC wiped clean and the OS re-loaded. I thought I backed up everything  on my iTouch and iPad correctly, but when I try to sync, I'm getting a message that if I continue with the sync, I will lose everything on my device. I'd like to sync and have the content (both iTunes purchased music/apps and uploaded music) override the content on my PC, but am unable to find a way to do that. I have the first gen iTouch that does not support iCloud. Can anyone help?

My question is, can I listen to all the audio that come out from the ipad (movies online, games, Goear…) or only to the music from iTunes library?
On the iPad you can stream videos, photos, or music from the Video, Photos, Music, and YouTube apps to an Apple TV OR just stream music to an AirPort Express Base Station.

  • My iphone was stolen and now the find my iphone is disabled on it. i have personal infos on the apps and own music in the music app and i need to make sure they're secured or erased :((( carrier blocked the phone

Help me please I want to make sure the thief couldn't open the phone and the apps and the music since it all carries personal information and are very important to me. How do I make sure the phone can no longer be used for anything?

If the carrier blocked it, that just means the SIM card in it can't be used to make calls or access the data network.
A 4 digit passcode can obviously be broken. How easily depends on the code you used and whether the thief knows anything about you. In all likelihood, the thief couldn't care less about your data. They want the phone, which has real monetary value.
Next time, turn on Find my iPhone.

  • Where can I find good organ and keyboard sounds for Logic Express?

Where can I find good organ and keyboard sounds for Logic Express? The included sounds seem to be lacking or hard to access.

Update: Not terribly impressed with the interface for NI's Vintage Organs from the demo download, although the sound demos sure sound good. The letters are tiny and hard to read and the whole thing feels very PC-centric. I guess a guy gets spoiled by the intuitive stuff. I think what I'll try for now is just hooking up my keyboard (Korg N1, circa 1998, about 1700 built in sounds) as a sound module and record the waveforms when I find a sound I like. I did find the EXS24 and several other software synths with some cool organ sounds after digging a little deeper. It would be good if Apple came out with another jam pack just for organs and keys, as the existing jam packs are so easy to use.

  • I can't find musics or movies on Itunes store. There are just iPad and iPhone apps. No musics or movies. Just iPad and iPhone options

When I start the itunes store, there are two options on the screen: iPhone and iPad (iPad came set as default). So, when I search musics or movies, I can't find nothing, just some iPad and iPhone apps.
What can I do to find and buy musics and movies?
Sorry if this is a stupid question, I am new in the mac world.
    Thanks for the attention.

Thanks so much! My grandaughters played games on the iPad over Xmas and one of their moms said shed restricted their access! Guess they forgot to enable again. Thank you again! Karla

  • How  do  i  log  in  and  find  my  back up  music

how  do  i  log  in  and  find  my  back up  music

Music isn't backed up using the iCloud backup. Any music that you had on your iPod which you purchased from the iTunes store can be re-downloaded from the purchased section of the iTunes Store.

  • I have purchased a Bose portable speaker for my ipod touch, the ipod finds the speaker and the music begins to play but as soon as start to walk away from the speaker the music stops, as I walk back next to speaker it starts again, i dont know why

I have purchased a Bose portable speaker to connect to my ipod touch, the ipod finds the speaker ok and the music plays whilst the ipod is next to it but once I start to walk away from the speaker the music stops, if i walk back towards the speaker the music starts again, you are suppoed to be able to walk around with ipod in your hand and play the music, change tracks etc. I bought the Bose speaker as someone I know already has one and showed me theres and how it worked, he can walk away from the speaker with his ipod touch no problem, so I dont know why mine wont, same speaker, same ipod, does anyone know
any bluetooth issues, can bluetooth go wrong, can you get it repaired ????? I'm baffled. Thanks

How far away are you walking? Bluetooth has a range of 10 metres - less if there are walls and other obstacles in the way.

  • I have an Itunes account from my Ipod Shuffle and have music stored there, but I cannot find it to put on my new Iphone.  How do I get to my stored music?

I have an Itunes account from my Ipod Shuffle and have music stored there, but I cannot find it to put on my new Iphone.  How do I get to my stored music?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
The music on your shuffle will be in the iTunes library it syncs with.

  • Is there a way to find out the ipod that bought and download music from my acct?  My credit card was charged over $150.00 and my kids didn't do it

Is there a way to identifiy who bought and downloaded music from iTunes from my account.  I looked at my kids touches and they don't have the music downloaded.  Over $150.00 have been charged to my credit card.

First things first is you absolutely NEED to change your iTunes password, and possibly even your email password as well for that account.
Secondly, you can get help with fraudulent purchases through the iTunes support site. http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/
Click iTunes Store Account and Billing and there's a section about Billing Inquiries.
After purchases, they should be emailing you invoices within a few days of the purchase. You can use that as reference to what was purchased, so that will help you determine if it was legitimate or not.  Simply look at the kid's iPod/iPad/iPhone and see if it is on their device.  Since you're all sharing the same account, you won't be able to tell which device purchased it.
You're welcome to disregard the above statements if you'd like, since I reread your question and notice that you did already look at your kid's devices.
Please change your email and itunes password immediately!

  • Some songs from my iTunes library do not show in my Finder music folder

Some songs from my iTunes library do not show in my Finder music folder. For example one of the three CD's form a triple album do not show in Finder. And therefore they do not get saved when I back up my Mac either. Any ideas?

Consolidate ("organize") simply looks at everything you have in iTunes and copies them to the iTunes media folder location specified in iTunes prefs -> Advanced.  If you select to use the default settings iTunes will copy any files in its library in the correct location in the media folder.  Since you don't want the files in a different locaiton really but just want to deal with some stragglers don't do the full "move" in hte instructions below but make sure they are organized.
iTunes 11 for Mac: Change where your iTunes files are stored - http://support.apple.com/kb/PH12165
The files will be copied so you will need to find the originals abd once you are content the library is working you can get rid of them (I often archive them on an external drive, delete the originals, then play the files which is a sure test if you have a workable copy on the computer).

  • Cannot find music in album folders

I just today thought I would do a little organizing of my music files on my PC with regards to iTunes. There are two profiles on the PC and so I moved the music files on both profiles to the Public folder of the computer and changed the default save location for both profiles for itunes for the public music folder. After that I went into both iTunes and clicked add folder to library which then showed the music for both profiles. I noticed I had some duplicates so I started to delete a few but then stopped the second that I noticed that a few of the one's that I had left had an exclamation point only to find out that iTunes could not locate the actual music file so I went back to the recycle bin and restored those files. Which leads me to the reason to that I'm here right now. I've just noticed that in the public folder in which my music files are suppose to be located that the artist and albums are there but when you click an individual album to look at the individual songs there are no MP4 files to be seen. For right now the music plays as it should through iTunes but why can't I see the music files themselves?

To accomplish what you want, you need to have a complete iTunes library (database + media) in a common location - typically this would be C:\Users\Public\Music\iTunes.  See turingtest2's notes on Make a split library portable for the steps that may be needed to bring your library into a suitable structure.  This will allow each user to access shared playlists, see all additions made to the library (by all users), etc.  The final structure of the iTunes folder and its subfolders should be like this:
Then, for each user, hold down SHIFT while starting iTunes - when you get this prompt:
click on Choose Library..., navigate to C:\Users\Public\Music\iTunes, select the iTunes Library.itl file you'll find there, and click Open (you'll only need to do this once for each user account).
Note, though, that iTunes is inherently a single-user application - any attempts to run iTunes at the same time will cause errors (and, in the worst case, possible corruption).  For this reason, its a good idea to disable fast user switching in Windows so that only one user can be logged in, and running iTunes, at the same time.
