Organizing by date

Is there an easy way to sort my pictures by date taken? They are in my Photos app.

If the albums are Smart Albums you cannot sort by Date. Apparently all my albums in iPhoto were Smart Albums with criteria not supported by Photo's so now all my albums are in alphabetical order. Very frustrating.

is there a way to organize photos in Iphoto by dragging directly to the top of page?  not organizing by date.....

Create an album and place into it any pictures you like. You can even place every single picture in your iPhoto library into it. The pictures can then be organized in any arbitrary way you wish within that album.

  • How can I put a folder of backed up pictures from my iOS device into iPhoto so iPhoto automatically puts them in events (organized by date)?

I have an album of a bunch of pictures collected over the course of two years.  They are from my old iPhone, and I didn't have a mac at the time.  So on my pc, I just backed all my pictures from my old iPhone into a folder.  Now I have a mac, and just like when you plug your iPhone in it allows you to upload them in organized events, how can I do that with folder of images?  They all still have the date, so I don't know why it doesn't automatically sort it by date.  Anyhow, thank you so much for your feedback!

When you import photos that is what happens - not by months but by the setting you have in your iPhoto preferences

  • SMART PLAYLISTS: ORGANIZING BY DATE ADDED & KEEPING ALBUM TRKS IN ORD

    Dear Knowledgeable Users of iPod:
I would like to create a Smart Playlist that will do the 2 following things when I listen to music in my iPod:
    1) Play albums in the order of date added
    (I solved this one)
    2) Play the songs in the order they come on the album
    (Couldn't solve this...)
Summary: playing music in the order it was added to the library AND maintaing the original track order of the albums...
Is this to much to ask, it seems pretty practical-
In an attempt to accomplish this, I made a Smart Playist & selected:
Date Added: In the last 24 months
-This solved the 1st problem beautifuly
But now the albums play backwards- (as you know, iTunes rips album's songs in their original order, so when your sort by 'Recently Added', each album plays backwards ! -last song first, first song last and so on- This is problem I want to solve-
    To summerize:
How can listen to my most recently added albums while the songs in their original order?
The point of all this is for listening to music on my iPod-
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated-
    Thanks in advance!

There are some issues to with live updating & smart playlists on iTunes 9, and also those containing mixed content, e.g. Podcasts & Music, though I'm not sure that is the problem here. You should be able to sort the playlist on any heading you like and then use *Copy to Play Order* to control the order that will be synced.

  • Organizing by dates within an event

I'm not exactly sure how to organize photos by date within a certain event, when photos are coming from more than one camera. For example, I have imported pictures on the day my grandson was born from my camera, and I have also added some, within the same "event" sent to me by email, taken with other cameras. There are lots of pictures taken during the course of a few days, but the photos, by date, are not in order. First, I have some that are in the hospital, then there are the ones taken at home, then after that are some more in the hospital. The dates are correct on the cameras and I've set the photos to be arranged by date in iPhoto. Why won't they import in the order, by day, that they were taken, even though they're from different cameras?

What I'm trying to accomplish is to import photos, no matter where they came from, into an event, and have them all in order by date. Is that possible with photos coming from different sources?
That is how it works - I have many events with photos from different camera's
look at the extended photo into (select two photos and go to the photos menu ==> show extended info) and verify that the date/time are the same - it sounds like they may have been set to different time zones time so are an hour or more off
To see all teh photos from a single camera make a smart album with camera is "the camera" - if one camera's time is off you can select the photos in that smart album and use the photos menu ==> adjust time and date command to correct it

  • Organizing by date pic taken not date imported?

Just upgraded to iphoto 09 and pulled a lot of pics in randomly from various places and can't get them to show in order of when they were taken. I figure they are organised by import event date of first pics taken. Since I have various imports with photos and folders taken over longish periods of time they are out of sync. Is there any way to view all the photos in order of individual shot date rather than beginning of event date. Does that make sense?

Yes I have. I figure the only way I can do this is to split the events manually so they are correctly sorted and dates of events don't overlap so much - ie. long event finishes way after the nest event started due to how I've imported the files/folders??

  • Organizing expenses into months using date

I have a budget with a monthly expenses cell for each month and a different spreadsheet with an expenses list. I have it organized into date, expense, and price. I need to find a way to add the total of all of my expenses for a month without using 12 different tables.
    Thanks,
    McKenzie

Assuming that expenses dates are stored in column B, the easiest way is to insert a column (here E) whose formula would be:
    =MONTH(B)
In column G the formula would be:
    =SUMIF(E,ROW()-1,C)

  • Help! My Stacks subfolders no longer organize by date

    Hi all,
Been running Snow Leopard for about 48hrs now and noticed my system has been a little more sluggish. Not too pleased about that, but I have a bigger problem: when I view the contents of a subfolder through Stacks it no longer organizes by date modified!
In 10.5, I had my Stacks settings to show my items as a list, organized by Date Modified. This ensured that when I looked at the contents of any subfolder in the stack, the contents in the subfolder would all be listed by date (in addition to the main stack list being in date order). Now, when I choose Date Modified, it ONLY shows me the top-level contents of the stack in date order, and NOT the content of subfolders (the subfolder content appears in alphanumeric order). What gives? Apple, why would you remove this logic? Please tell me there is a setting in here somewhere...
I'm really hoping I'm missing something here because this is a key component to my file organization.
    Thanks all!
    Mike

This is my biggest issue with Snow Leopard so far. Sorting in subfolders in the Dock worked in Cheetah, Puma, Jaguar, Panther, Tiger, and Leopard (after 10.5.1 brought the feature back). What went wrong in Snow Leopard development to break it so annoyingly?
Not being able to sort by kind in subfolders makes browsing through list/grid view stacks a real pain – in fact I'd be okay with it if the setting was stuck on 'by kind', so that folders would at least appear together; 'by name', on the other hand, is a very poor choice for almost any situation. Date Modified is of course another no-brainer in this regard.
I wish I knew enough to have some idea where things might be broken . I really hope this is sorted out for 10.6.2.

  • How do I get items from itunes U to display in order by date rather than in alphabetical order?

The podcasts I listen are automatically organized chronologically. I downloaded something from itunes U and it is organized by date in itunes but alphabetically on my ipod so I have no idea which one actually comes first. I'd appreciate some help in knowing how to put them in order by date. Thanks.

    Hi Richard,
Based on my experience, I don't think drill-down links can be included in alerts/messages.

  • Is there a way to manually custom-edit the "Date created" and "Date modified" attributes of files in Mac OS 10.6?

In "List View" in a Finder window, among the many column options are "Date created" and "Date modified." In "View Options" (command-J) for any folder, one can add these columns, along with the standard ones "Size," "Kind," "Label," etc.
A user can alter a file's name, and a file's "label" (i.e. its color). On the other hand, a user can NOT arbitrarily edit/alter a file's official "size" -- other than by physically altering the contents of the file itself, obviously.
But what about a file's "Date created" and "Date modified"? Can either of those be manually edited/changed, just as a file's name can be changed -- or is a file's creation-date an immutable attribute beyond the editorial reach of the user, just as a file's "size" is?
And yes, a person can "alter" a file's "Date modified" by simply modifying the file, which would change its "Date modified" to be the moment it was last altered (i.e. right now). But (and here's the key question) can a user somehow get inside a file's defining attributes and arbitrarily change a file's modification date to be at any desired point in the past that's AFTER its creation date and BEFORE the present moment? Or will so doing cause the operating system to blow a gasket?
If it is possible to arbitrarily manually alter a file's creation date or modification date, how would it be done (in 10.6)? And if it is NOT possible, then why not?

    sanjempet --
    Whew, that's a relief!
But as for your workaround solution: All it will achieve is altering the created and modified dates to RIGHT NOW. What I'm looking to do is to alter the modification/creation dates to some point in the past.
I'm not doing this for any nefarious reason. I just like to organize my work files chronologically according to when each project was initiated, but sometimes I forget to gather the disparate documents all into one folder right at the beginning, and as a result, sometimes after I finish a job, I will create a new folder to permanently house all the files in an old project, and when that folder is places in a bigger "completed projects" folder and then is organized by "Date created" or "Date modified" in list view, it is out-of-order chronologically because the creation and modification dates of that particular project folder reflect when the folder was created (i.e. today), and not when the files inside the folder were created (i.e. weeks or months ago).
The simplest solution would simply to be able to back-date the folder's creation or modification date to match the date that the project actually started!

  • What is the meaning of data blocks ?

    hi,
What is the exact meaning of "data blocks" in the following paragraph ?
Index records and table records are organized in data blocks.
If you dispatch an SQL statement from an ABAP program to the database, the program searches for the data records requested either in the database table itself (full table scan) or by using an index (index unique scan or index range scan). If all fields requested are found in the index using an index scan, the table records do not need to be accessed.
A data block shows the level of detail in which data is written to the hard disk or read from the hard disk. Data blocks may contain multiple data records, but a single data record may be spread across several data blocks.
    thanks

    Hi  ,
As Per oracle , data  is stored in database  in form of Data blocks , extent and Segments .
Physical space of memory is allocated to store data  .
first level is called  BLOCKS  ,nexxt is extent   and last  is SEGMENT  .
each block can store multiple data records  and   Conversly large no of  data records can be stored  in data Blocks  .
data is stored in DATA BLOCKS which is smallest unit in oracle where data is stored in bytes  .
    regards

  • Organizing rolls from iPhoto, in Aperture

I recently got the trial Aperture and imported my iPhoto film rolls. I have all my rolls organized by date of the roll. I have moved pictures between rolls to group them. This way it is sort of like an album.
In Aperture you can organize pictures by every criteria but date of film roll imported. Does anybody know how to keep my original pictures within their iPhoto rolls and alpha date the collections by film roll data?
I want each roll in the browser to have all the pictures (even with differnet dates) in the same group.
    aehaas

Aperture's workflow is different, as is its organizational structure. iPhoto's rolls metaphor is fundamentally not as effective for many photographers, who are event or project based.
OK, so what to do ...
I would suggest you map rolls to projects. Essentially a project is a container for images for shots on a day or series of days. Since it sounds like you have rolls which would on the one hand consolidate into a project and on the other maybe span projects, some decisions will be necessary.
To get visibility back to your rolls structure, you could then use Albums. Albums can contain images (more correctly pointers to the image in a project) from one project or multiple projects.
Using this structure should allow you to see thematic or event groupings (projects) and the more discrete roll structure (albums).
Above all this, you could have a Folder container for the year, where all projects and albums for a year are held within a folder for that year.

Then i have got the following data -
    STATE          TOTAL
    Analysis     17
    Closed          1302
    Development     9
    Duplicate     24
    Failed          2
    OnHold          4

Kindly help me with this. I searched the forum and saw the usage of Max and NVL, Decode but i am unable to understand it to use in my query. kindly help me with this.

    Hi,
In 11g you can use pivot.
    example
    SQL> desc customers
    Name                                      Null?    Type
    CUST_ID                                            NUMBER(10)
    CUST_NAME                                          VARCHAR2(20)
    STATE_CODE                                         VARCHAR2(2)
    TIMES_PURCHASED                                    NUMBER(3)
    When this table is selected:
    select cust_id, state_code, times_purchased
    from customers
    order by cust_id;
    The output is:
    CUST_ID STATE_CODE TIMES_PURCHASED
          1 CT                       1
          2 NY                      10
          3 NJ                       2
          4 NY                       4
    ... and so on ...
Note how the data is represented as rows of values: For each customer, the record shows the customer's home state and how many times the customer purchased something from the store. As the customer purchases more items from the store, the column times_purchased is updated.
Now consider a case where you want to have a report of the purchase frequency each statethat is, how many customers bought something only once, twice, thrice and so on, from each state. In regular SQL, you can issue the following statement:
    select state_code, times_purchased, count(1) cnt
    from customers
    group by state_code, times_purchased;
    Here is the output:
    ST TIMES_PURCHASED        CNT
    CT               0         90
    CT               1        165
    CT               2        179
    CT               3        173
    CT               4        173
    CT               5        152
    ... and so on ...
This is the information you want but it's a little hard to read. A better way to represent the same data may be through the use of crosstab reports, in which you can organized the data vertically and states horizontally, just like a spreadsheet:
    Times_purchased
CT           NY         NJ      ... and so on ...
    1             0            1          0      ...
    2            23          119         37      ...
    3            17           45          1      ...
    ... and so on ...
Prior to Oracle Database 11g, you would do that via some sort of a decode function for each value and write each distinct value as a separate column. The technique is quite nonintuitive however.
Fortunately, you now have a great new feature called PIVOT for presenting any query in the crosstab format using a new operator, appropriately named pivot. Here is how you write the query:
    select * from (
       select times_purchased, state_code
       from customers t
    pivot
       count(state_code)
       for state_code in ('NY','CT','NJ','FL','MO')
    order by times_purchased
    Here is the output:
. TIMES_PURCHASED       'NY'       'CT'       'NJ'       'FL'       'MO'
                  0      16601         90          0          0          0
                  1      33048        165          0          0          0
                  2      33151        179          0          0          0
                  3      32978        173          0          0          0
                  4      33109        173          0          1          0
    ... and so on ...

  • Is it possible to export .jpg's by date

This should not be so hard, and I searched the forum, but couldn't find a solution.
When I export to "files on disk" / specific folder, usually the name of my "specific folder" is the year (i.e. "2009").
I then check the "Put in subfolder" box, and Lr creates a folder with a name of my choice, so far so good. I'd like to keep my files organized by date, but in order to do that, I have to type the date manually in the subfolder field.
Is there a way I can tell Lr to use the date variable as the folder name? For instance {Date (YYYYMMDD)»} is accepted for naming the files, it should not be rocket science. BTW I did try that syntax, but Lr simply creates a folder named "{Date (YYYYMMDD)»}", very amusing...

Thanks for replying John. Yes these are originally RAW files. I do back them up separately, but I would also like to export a copy as JPG to our media server, for family view. Our media player does not handle RAW files. I am reluctant to put all of one year pics into ONE folder, which seems to be the only automatic choice available.
I think by default Lr archives any existing pictures the same way I'd like to archive my new ones (it creates a folder structure based on the date). I find a bit strange that the same behaviour is not at least made available as an option for exporting locally. What am I missing?
