Organizing Contacts

I have built in bluetooth on my new car, but it doesn't work well with my iPhone4. I think it's because I have too many contacts on my phone and it gets 'confused'. When I tried using it with a much smaller contact list, it worked perfectly every time (the problem is that I will say 'call bob jones' and it will say 'calling mary smith'). I've tried different ways to manage my contacts so that the bluetooth will work, but nothing has worked. I need to be able to access the entire list if necessary (and do it fairly quickly), but have a smaller list of more frequently called contacts so the bluetooth can get it right. I did contact my dealer, and he said that Kia doesn't have an upgrade to the software in the works. Any ideas?

Right. I'm pretty sure it's a Kia issue, but I"m looking for a workaround. It does work fine if I don't have too many contacts in my phone (I have close to 1000), so I'm looking for a way to have the contacts available but not actually IN the contact list, so the bluetooth will work better. I need a way to keep the iPhone integrated contact list smaller with the full contact list available.

  • It is difficult, to organize my contacts on my iPhone. It is easy to do this on my iMac. So why can't I load my well organized contacts from my iMac (addressbock) on my iPhone and overweight my disorganized contacts on my iPhone?

  • Organizing contacts into subfolders

Ok, so now while we are on contacts, is there a way to utilize the "category" feature in contacts and have subfolders for types of contacts so I have more than just a laundry list of contacts? Let's call it a "playlist of contacts" by Genre?

Wow, that is a good question, and I don't think that you can.
I just read the manual for the iPod Contact section and see no mention of being able to categorize them.
Maybe future iPod software releases will have this function??

  • Organizing Contact Info from Outlook to iphone

I have outlook and I want to sync the contacts in Outlook to the iphone into two categories. In Outlook you can put contacts into more than one folder. Example: Personal and Business. Is there a way to sync the contacts into the iphone where they are seperated by two folders? Maybe contacts for business and contacts for personal? I have noticed that in itunes under syncing contacts there is an option to sync selected groups but it is never highlighted to choose and if I could choode this option would it put contacts into two different groups? By the way I have seperated contacts in Outlook and after syncing the iphone only the main folder is transfered from Outlook to the iphone.

I am trying to do the same thing. So far, the answer is "no," based on: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=5555115&#5555115

  • ORGANIZING CONTACT LIST

What is the easiest way to do this and why when i enter in the address icon nothing shows up???  Help I am a new user but love the phone

If you have added or you transfered your contacts from your SIM to your addressbook, then make sure that the filter is not turned on. In the addressbook, click blackberry button and select filters and make sure neither are options are selected.

  • How do I erase all of the contacts on my iPhone?

I have an iPhone 3GS and I am running iOS5.
I want to erase my organic contacts on my phone so that I can sync my phone with my PC contacts (from ACT! by Sage) using Companion Link/ DejaOffice software.
Does anyone know how to get the contacts off of my phone?
    Thanks!

from iTunes save all of your contacts in a vcard format. then you need to plug your iPhone into your computer it will start to sync. Select your iPhone>select the last tab at the top of the page where it say Music Photos Videos ect. Scroll Down untill you see where it says import contacts and browse to the location you have all of the contacts stored. go to the bottom and click apply and then sync your iPhone as normal. it SHOULD replace all of them but depending on your SW version you might have to manually select the option to delete all old contacts.

  • Replacing contacts on phone w/ contacts from Mac?

My Contacts are a MESS! I'm looking for a solution to clean them up.
Here's the situation: My wife and daughter have plugged their phones into my MacBook Pro (without my knowledge) and all of our contacts have gotten merged together; so I have 3 times the contacts I need or want on my phone. AND, there are multiple duplicates as well. It fills up a ton of space and it's a real pain to search through.
What I would LIKE to do: 1. Delete ALL the contacts that are on the iPhone. 2. Organize and clean up the contacts (Address Book) on my MacBook Pro, so that I only have the contacts that I want and none of the duplicates. 3. Load all the (organized) contacts from my MacBook Pro onto the iPhone.
    My iPhone is a 4S
Is this possible? If so, how do I delete the contacts on my iPhone - can I do it en mass, or do I have to go through and delete each one individually? Once I have the contacts cleaned up in Address Book on my MacBook, how do I transfer them to my iPhone?
If there's another way of cleaning up this mess, please let me know. I really need a solution to this problem!

Yeah, I fixed the problem of them getting on my computer - I bought them MacBooks! LOL!
I'm missing something. If I do as you suggest, won't the contacts on the phone drop into the Address Book as part of the Sync? I mean, when I create a new contact on my phone it's always appeared in my Address Book on the Mac after the next sync. That's sort of the idea of Syncing, isn't it - So that new contacts from one device are included, and backed up, on the other device? If this IS the case, wouldn't all the contacts I don't want (that are currently on the phone) simply get dropped into Address Book when I sync, putting me back on square one?

  • Contacts, Help!

    Hello,
My iphone is set to sync with my Google contacts.  Here is the problem...in my phone, I want the contacts listed separately.  For example, I am friends with both a husband and a wife.  I want them listed as one contact in my Google contacts (For my christmas card list, etc).  In my iphone however, I want them listed individually with their phone number, email, etc.
Is there a way to do this?  I'm really struggling.  I guess the option is not to sync, but then I run the risk of not having the updated addresses in the right place.
Am I making this more difficult than it needs to be?
    Thanks for your help!

Your question might be paraphrased this way:
"I have my contacts organized one way on my computer.  I want them organized a different way on my iPhone.  How can I keep these two orgainzations yet maintain the contacts in only one place?"
Yes, I think the option is not to sync -- that is, after you have imported the Google contacts and use them as a starting point for your newly organized contacts on your iPhone.  In other words, I recommend syncing exactly one time to get your iPhone contacts started.
If you prefer the new organization (e.g., keeping husband and wife separate), you might consider switching to iCloud so your iPhone's contact organization can be used on other devices.

  • Vcf export to work, excel... anywhere!

HELP!  Spent SOOOOO much time organizing contacts to streamline the "label making process", to find out address book saves as a vcf? Spent $3.99 on some app EXPORT ADDRESS BOOK but it doesn't work either. Seems like this is a pretty archaic request, going back to the early PC days that apple doesn't support?  Sorry, just so frustrated.

    Hello,
No idea which one you tried, oe what OSX version you really have, but this worked on PPC Mac running 10.4.11...

    Hi,
If I remember correctly, conversation does what you describe. As the application is "experimental beta", the functionality might not be on as good level as you expected. I would still say that it's worth trying
Conversation app for S60 3rd edition devices:
    http://betalabs.nokia.com/apps/conversation
    Reviews / comments:
    http://betalabs.nokia.com/node/34/review
    Description:
"The Conversation is an add-on application that allows you to follow your communication with contacts as streams of conversations, which it organizes, based on individual contacts. The application also makes it very easy to reply to received messages and continue an ongoing conversation with the contact.
After installation, the application will appear in your device as a new tab in your Contacts application. You can also set the application to be a short-cut key (e.g., left-soft-key or right-soft-key) or standby application icon in the Settings menu option in your terminal."

  • My contacts are organized in different groups. An iPhone trade show app (Vinexpo) displays exhibitors infos and allows to create new contacts. Is there any way to save a new contact in a specified group instead of the contacts root? Thks in advance

My contacts on my iPhone are organized in different groups. I have downloaded a trade show app which gives infos on the exhibitors of the show. It offers to create new contacts from these info. Is there any way to save these new contacts in a specified group instead of putting them into the contacts root, where they are mixed with all the old ones? By the way, can we create a new contacts group directly from the IPhone, without having to go through the sync process with the PC?
    Thanks a lot in advance

Sorry, I forgot to bookmark the thread where the app was mentioned, but searching for "group" or "contacts" should bring a few results in the AppStore.

  • Importing contacts to Address book (organized)

    Hello,
Someone was helpful awhile back and told me that if I selected all emails in Mac Mail (within a folder), I could send them to address book. Basically I want to send all contacts from a folder in Mac Mail over to address book in an organized fashion. I did the export but now I don't know how to find the new contacts in address book. It just lumped in the new contacts with the others....
Is there a way to organize address book by date added (contacts)? Does anyone have any suggestions on how to do this? I tried dragging over the emails into a group folder in address book but that didn't work.... Thanks!

Smart folders aren't real folders, just sort of Aliases that contain certain criteria in th whole thing.
Like you could make a Smart folder that containd names that had b in the name, that fake folder when clicked on would look like it cantain those that have b in the name, but just really points to only those.
Experiment a bit with them, you can delete them without alarm because it's just a separate DB of them.
