Organizing Email in Folders

Page 47 of the iPad Users Guide says you can move a message to a different mailbox or folder. How do you create folders to store mail messages? I have 3 mailboxes: Inbox, Sent, Trash. I would like to create a folder into which I can move all my messages from Aunt Susie so as to un-clutter my Inbox.

You have to have an IMAP mail account, you create the folders on your computer then sync them to your iPad.

WMA files are 'window media audio' files, which is a Microsoft format. If you want to add them to your iTunes library on your Mac then you will need to convert them into a compatible format first. Open the email, do a save as have it save to the location you want from the drop down menu (You could select desktop and then drag it into a folder in documents) and click save as a .rtf.
Or you can copy and paste into a document (Word, Pages, Text Edit...) Make a folder and put it in docs.

I can't drag and drop emails to folders in mail

I used to be able to drag and drop emails into folders that I have set up in mail. Now I cannot do this. I am running Mac OS X Ver 10.7.4. Any ideas?

How do I create and file emails into folders?
I've created a "Smart Mailbox" (whatever that is, lol) and tried to drag emails into that folder but it doesn't work. When I click on the email and want to move it, nothing shows up to move it to: including the smart mailbox that was created.
Any suggestions?

I have heard this statement before, but it is not true. A message in a Smart Mailbox (or a file in a Smart Folder in the Finder) is not an alias. It is simply the same original in a different context.
An alias, in Mac OS terminology, is a separate and distinct file from the original. It is a file whose property is that, when opened, it redirects and opens a different file (the "original"). But the alias itself is a distinct file. It can be renamed, moved, deleted, labeled, etc., without having any effect on the original. None of this is true of the "contents" of a Smart Mailbox/Folder. If you delete a message in a Smart Mailbox, you are deleting the original message. If you drag the message to a (non-Smart) Mailbox, you are moving the original. Some people seem to be confused that a message (or file) can appear to be in more than one place at a time. It is, nevertheless, the exact same message, and misunderstanding this point could have unfortunate consequences.

You can sort by using the search feature. When you are in your mail account you use the search bar at the top to find emails from a particular sender (there are Other options as well in search). Type in that sender's address. When the emails show up in the window on the left side, select all of the emails that you want to move. Tap Edit at the bottom and the Move Folder icon will appear. Tap that icon and select the folder that you want to move the emails into.
To move multiple emails without using the search to sort, go to your inbox and tap Edit. Then select all of the emails that you want to move. After you are done selecting them, tap the Move icon at the bottom on the left side of the account window. When you tap move, you get a choice of folder into which you can place the selected emails.

Mail application is still there. All of my emails and folders are gone since iCloud. How can I get them back using Snow Leopard? Or can I? Do I have to wait for Mountain Lion?

I need to check a few other things...
Click on 'Mail' in the upper left corner next to the Apple ()
Click Preferences
Click the 'Accounts' tab
Make sure your iCloud account is highlighted in the column on the left.
In the account information section what does it say next to:
Incoming Mail Server?
Outgoing Mail Server?
Also, did you use MobileMe before the iCloud?

Close out of the mail app, double click the home button and completely close out of the mail app.
Then do a reset, hold down the home/sleep button together until you see the apple logo and then release then wait for the phone to boot back up.
then check your mail again.

Trying to get my email sub folders to show up on IOS 7.

Im trying to get my email sub folders from my company email account to show up on my iphone5.
It is an smtp email server that falls under the "other" category when I set it up on the phone.
Currently running IOS7
all my personal email account sub-folders are showing up, just not this particular account (the one I use the most)
anyone have an idea what I can do here?

Unable to drag and drop emails into folders

Since updating to iCloud/ios5 I am unable drag and drop emails into folders I have set up. Additionally, if I right mouse click and say 'Move to' it takes four or five times of selecting a folder for the emails to actually move. Suggestions?

Thanks, Linc. As a Mac user since the 80s, relaunch/reboot is always the first thing I try, and yes, that usually fixes many issues :-) But not this one. That being said, the Mac, she is a mysterious thing... I did relaunch/reboot yesterday afternoon to no avail. Shut down completely last night, rebooted this morning... Still didn't work....and then this afternoon, because it is habit, I grabbed an email to file and voilà ~ it is now working again. I am stumped as to what that was all about... Did you set up your phone to sync Contacts with iCloud? If not sure, you can log in to https://www.icloud.com and see if your contacts are there.

Post-Time Machine Recovery, no emails in folders

I just had to replace my internal hard drive after it crashed, but everything was fine because I use Time Machine. So I load it all back up, and aside from some minor things (Safari 3 needs to be updated again, etc), everything is good.
However, I don't seem to have any emails in folders anymore... Is there a way to get them back? That's a pretty big thing for Time Machine not to back up... Any tips?
