Organizing for Finder as well as inside IPhoto

I need help organizing photos in IPhoto. I know how to do it inside it's library, but if i'm emailing a picture or printing it or anything like that, all that shows up is stuff like " 2006-10-07_16.36" and stuff like that. What can i do?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
Use iPhoto to select the photos you want to upload. Then do a File > Export > file export to a folder on your Desktop. iPhoto will give you the correct version of the photo. You will also have the option to resize the image for better performance in email or on a website. Plus the option to rename the export based on the iPhoto title or Album. Upload from the Desktop folder, then trash it when you're finished. The photos remain safe in your iPhoto library.
Why? iPhoto is a database application, not a file browser. You are meant to stay out of its library structure in the Finder. See this from the iPhoto Help, under "About using the iPhoto Library":
"IMPORTANT: There is also an "iPhoto Library" folder located in the Pictures folder in your home folder, outside the iPhoto application. If you move, delete, rename, or otherwise touch files or folders within this folder, you may be unable to see your pictures in the iPhoto application.
"The files within this folder should only be manipulated by a customer care representative."

  • Apple Script to Check for System as well as Applications Updates?

    Hi,
I was wondering if someone has created an Apple Script to check for Finder as well as Applications updates automatically.
    Thanks,

There wouldn't be any updates to the Finder separately. Any system updates are announced by Apple when they're available, and this is what the Software Update feature is for.
If you go to System Preferences->Software Update, you can set it to automatically check for updates, or you can check manually. Monthly is usually the best schedule to check for updates, as Apple doesn't often release things on any quicker schedule.

I think you can only see the map.  To see the actual EXIF data you would need to export and use a viewer.

  • How do i find duplicate photos in my iPhoto library?

How do i find duplicate photos in my iPhoto library?

These applications will identify and help remove duplicate photos from an iPhoto Library:
    iPhoto Library Manager - $29.95
Duplicate Annihilator - $7.95 - only app able to detect duplicate thumbnail files or faces files when an iPhoto 8 or earlier library has been imported into another.
PhotoSweeper - $9.95 - This app can search by comparing the image's bitmaps or histograms thus finding duplicates with different file names and dates.
DeCloner - $19.95 - can find duplicates in iPhoto Libraries or in folders on the HD.
DupliFinder - $7 - shows which events the photos are in.
iPhoto AppleScript to Remove Duplicates - Free
PhotoDedupo - $4.99 (App Store) -  this app has a "similar" search feature which is like PhotoSweeper's bitmap comparison.  It found all duplicates
Duplicate Cleaner for iPhoto - free - was able to recognize the duplicated HDR and normal files from an iPhone shooting in HDR
Some users have reported that PhotoSweeper did the best in finding all of the dups in their library: iphoto has duplicated many photos, how...: Apple Support Communities.
If you have an iPhone and have it set to keep the normal photo when shooting HDR photos the two image files that are created will be duplicates in a manner of speaking (same image) but there are only twp apps that detected the iPhone HDR and normal photos as being duplicates:  PhotoSweeper and Duplicate Cleaner for iPhoto.  None of the other apps detected those two files as being duplicates as they look for file name as well as other attributes and the two files from the iPhone have different file names.
iPLM, however, is the best all around iPhoto utility as it can do so much more than just find duplicates.  IMO it's a must have tool if using iPhoto.

  • Folders inside iphoto library - how do you get to the photos?

    Hi -
I thought I was loading my pictures into iPhoto when I dragged a folder of them and dropped it into the program. Unfortunately, I cannot access these photos through the iPhoto program.
I know they are in there somewhere because the finder shows them in a folder supposedly located in the iPhoto library. However, neither the folder nor the pictures are visible in the iPhoto program itself. When I try to drop them in again, I get error messages.
If you have a suggestion about how to reach those pictures, I will be quite grateful.
    Thanks,
    -Karen

Don't change anything in the iPhoto Library Folder via the Finder or any other application. iPhoto depends on the structure as well as the contents of this folder. Moving things, renaming things or otherwise making changes will prevent iPhoto from working and could even cause you to damage or lose your photos.
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the apple and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Is there an ap for finding/deleting corrupt files on OS X 10.7?

I seem to have a corrupt file(s) which cause my MacBook Pro to freeze inexplicably (and randomly) upon start-up. I've been told that this is a symptom of having a corrupt file.
Is there an an for finding/deleting corrupt files on OS X 10.7?
I'm pretty much bound to my computer and simply don't have the time to go through it manually.
    Thank you.

This is an old post and I am not the person who posted the original query, but I ran your terminal diagnostic and am hoping you are still attending to this forum. I have a mid 2011 macbook Air 11", 256 GB SSD, 1.8 GHz Intel Core i7, 4 GB  1333 MHz DDR3, Mac OS X v. 10.7.5 Lion. I have had various problems in my user homefolder for a while. I have gone through quite a few other troubleshooting and fixing steps, the most extensive following a posting here "Step by Step to fix your mac" by ds store in the Apple forums. These steps helped a lot. I did remove some 3rd party software as part of this process.
My computer is running well in general now, but one thing that has been a recurring problem is problems with move/cut-paste. I researched this online and ACL's being present where they're not supposed to be seems to be an issue. I have used terminal commands to remove ACL's, used Onyx to repair user permissions, rebooted with command-r to reset password screen and reset user permissions. They all help, but then a some point later on the problem recurs. When I run repair disk permissions with either disk utility or onyx I always get this message:
    Repairing permissions for “maggieairHD”
Warning: SUID file “System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAg ent” has been modified and will not be repaired.
ACL found but not expected on “Users”
    Repaired “Users”
    Permissions repair complete
This ALWAYS comes up, even if I run it immediately after running it and haven't done anything else on the computer in between.
I created another user and did not have the same problems I was having at the time with some programs, although I haven't used it that much to be able to really compare. The home folder permissions repair in Onyx comes out the same in that user, though.
Here are my results from your diagnostic terminal commands:

I have removed NoSleep, Caffeine, itunesHelper and Dropbox from login items before and didn't notice any difference, so I put them back. Some of these I know I don't want, like rim/blackberry, adobe AIR. Skype has never worked consistently on this computer. I don't use most of these Services, and I know I had trouble with some that were not compatible with Lion before. I am not using Parallels much now, have been thinking about taking it off as it uses a chunk of my SSD. But I don't feel confident about getting rid of .frameworks etc safely.
I am glad to remove anything I don't use if I know how to do it safely. I am willing to remove anything I do use if it's necessary, but obviously would prefer to find a way to keep things that I find helpful.
    I appreciate any suggestions!

  • How do I find "under the hood" in iPhoto

I purchased duplicate finder and it asks me to access under the hood in Iphoto.I can not find under the hood .Help please

I bought the Duplicate Finder app in Applestore I have tons of duplicate photos in IPhoto I run OSX 10.9.2
    I use IPhoto 9.5.1
Here is the help page for Duplicate Finder app it tells me to go into the highlighted area below to run the app in IPhoto.I do not undestand how to get to the under the hood tab see bottom of the page
    Preferences
The preferences window can be accessed from The Duplicate Finder menu. All options in Preferences have a description field, to describe its functionality. In case if you have questions related to detailed information about a specific option contact us.
    Search for duplicates in iPhoto
To properly scan your iPhoto Library an option called "Scan duplicates in iPhoto" has to be enabled at the bottom of "Under the Hood" tab.
This option forces The Duplicate Finder to analyze the meta information of iPhoto libraries and show only the actual duplicates within iPhoto. By removing iPhoto duplicates from The Duplicate Finder, iPhoto is launched and the items are moved to iPhoto's Trash. To permanently delete the items and free up your drive space the Trash of iPhoto needs to be emptied.
Note: Only the removal of the currently active iPhoto library items are allowed. Warning messages are displayed for the selection of items inside inactive libraries.

  • Can't find photos from 2010 in iphoto?

Recently I had to find Christmas photos for 2010 as well as my photos from my overseas trip also 2010. I know that i put them into iphoto from my iphone. They aren't on my iphone anymore as that crashed but I did do a backup of the iphone in itunes before that happened. Do photos of a different year get put somewhere else??? I am very new to a Mac. Any help would be much appreciated. Cheers

No, photos from a different year don't get put somewhere else.
Try use a Smart Album ro find them:
    File -> New Smart Album
Date is in the Range -> 1/1/2010 to 31/12/2010

  • Seeing a photos exif data inside iPhoto

Is there anyway to find and view the full realm of EXIF data of photos inside iPhoto? I want to be able to see the shutter speed, aperture, exposure value, etc. I know that I can see this in Photoshop but would like to be able to see it in iPhoto without opening the picture up in Photoshop. Can anyone help me here? Thanks.

The only way would be to set up a 3rd party EXIF viewer as the editor of choice in iPhoto. Then you could double click on a photo and bring up it's EXIF data in the EXIF viewer. A good viewer is EXIF Viewer.
Once you set up the viewer as the editor of choice you can reset the editor to iPhoto but still open the viewer by clicking on the photo and selecting "Open in external editor" from the contextual menu. That way you get the best of both worlds.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.≤br>
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Import pictures inside iphoto from PC windows folders without the hidden folders

hello, i need your support to import photo from external HD (picture coming form PC window vista folders) to iphoto without the hidden folder that contain picture format "VCMS_KF_REPS" and similars. Should i delate that strange format manually and directly inside iphoto? I have 15 GB of pictures to import and the manually operation is so long...
    thanks

Do you have to import directly from from that folder on your external HD?
How about copying only the visible files to a folder on your mac and importing from that folder to iPhoto?
Or if you import them, to use iPhoto's smart albums and filters to find the photos that you want to delete, so you can delete them all at once.
These pictures are few KB (low resolution) named vcm_s_kf_repr_640x480
You could create a smart album (File > New Smart Album" with the rule: Filename contains "vcm_s_kf_repr_640x480" - or any other thing similar for all pictures - and then select all photos found and delete the photos in that album.

  • A command for finding an application's version number?

    Hello,
I need a command for finding the version number of a specific application installed in OS X, and I need to be able to run it via the UNIX feature of Apple Remote Desktop, so that I can run it on hundreds of computers. First I tried this:
    system_profiler -detailLevel full
It works, but it takes a long time to produce the output, because it's gathering and outputting all of the information that System Profiler provides. I don't know if there's a way to narrow it down so that it only gives me the version number of the specific application I need to know about. This is an example of what the output looks like for each application listed.
        iPhoto:
          Version: 9.2.1
          Last Modified: 10/27/11 10:05 AM
          Kind: Intel
          64-Bit (Intel): No
          App Store: No
          Location: /Applications/iPhoto.app
Copying that to TextEdit and searching for the application's name takes way too long, especially for hundreds of computers. Are there any arguments or regular expressions I could add to the command to narrow it down, and make it only output the information I need?
Someone suggested this command, which takes the information from Spotlight:
mdls -name kMDItemVersion <path to file>
That works for apps in the Applications folder, but the application I need the version number for is in the /usr/bin folder and I'm guessing that's not indexed by Spotlight, because it returns:
    kMDItemVersion = (null)
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    -Mike

You rock! I'm definitely on the right track now. Yes, it's a regular application package, not a UNIX executable. Ok, so I use this command to display the Info.plist file inside that package:
    cat /usr/bin/uc/UndercoverRegistration.app/Contents/Info.plist
    And it outputs this:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">
    <plist version="1.0">
    <dict>
        <key>CFBundleDevelopmentRegion</key>
        <string>English</string>
        <key>CFBundleExecutable</key>
        <string>UndercoverRegistration</string>
        <key>CFBundleIconFile</key>
        <string>Undercover</string>
        <key>CFBundleIdentifier</key>
        <string>com.orbicule.UndercoverRegistration</string>
        <key>CFBundleInfoDictionaryVersion</key>
        <string>6.0</string>
        <key>CFBundlePackageType</key>
        <string>APPL</string>
        <key>CFBundleShortVersionString</key>
        <string>4.5</string>
        <key>CFBundleSignature</key>
        <string>????</string>
        <key>CFBundleVersion</key>
        <string>4.5</string>
        <key>NSMainNibFile</key>
        <string>MainMenu</string>
        <key>NSPrincipalClass</key>
        <string>NSApplication</string>
    </dict>
    </plist>
So can I add arguments to that command to have it only display the version number, which is on line 18 (the value is 4.5 here)? So would I be able to display only line 18, or display whatever is below the line that reads "<key>CFBundleShortVersionString</key>"? Thanks!

    Hi
Did You ever use - iPhoto ?
Did You may be direct iPhoto to a different Photo Library
As iMovie tries to find the appropriate photo library - it can get lost if iPhoto direct it into a Library on a not connected external hard disk or to a strange location - And iMovie HANGS.
Do - When no other program is running that might interfere
    • Start iPhoto - BUT NOW KEEP alt-key (option key) DOWN during the full Start-Up process
    • Now iPhoto let's You select Photo Library
    • Select the one in Your Account / Home folder / Pictures ! !
    • Then iPhoto should start up OK
    • Now Quit iPhoto
    • START iMovie
Does it still hangs - then I would suspect - iMovie Pref. file
If it Run's OK - Then HURRAY !

now that i have to prepare an impact analysis doc for BI side.
pls help me with what all could be impacted and what to be done as a
solution to implement the size change.
    FYI:
where used list for xxx infoobject - relveals these object types :

    DSO.
    attribute of characteristic,

    in queries,
    in variables

    Hi Swetha,
You will have to manually make the table adjustments in all the systems using SE14 trans since the changes done using SE14 cannot be collected in any TR.
    How to adjust tables :
Enter the table name in SE14. For ex for any Z master data(Say ZABCD), master data table name would be /BIC/PZABCD, text table would be /BIC/TZABCD. Similarly any DSO(say ZXYZ) table name would be /BIC/AZXYZ00 etc.
Just enter the table name in SE14 trans --> Edit --> Select the radio button "Save Data" --> Click on Activate & adjust database table.
NOTE : Be very careful in using SE14 trans since there is possibility that the backend table could be deleted.
How to collect the changes in TR:
You can collect only the changes made to the IO --> When you activate, it will ask you for the TR --> Enter the correct package name & create a new TR. If it doesn't prompt you for TR, just goto Extras --> Write transport request from the IO properties Menu screen. Once these IO changes are moved successfully, then the above proceduce can be followed using SE14 trans.
    Hope it helps!
