Organizing Itunes for multiple artists

Is there a way to to make a song with multiple artists appear under the names of both the artists? Is there a character I can use so that the song appear under each artist's list and doesn't create a special folder for the two artists together?
For example, a song which is recorded by Madonna and Britney spears will be filed under a new folder of Madonna and Britney Spears, and not under the folders of Madonna and Britney Spears separately. I have tried using commas, semi-colons,slash etc. and none of these have worked. Is there a way to make this work

iTunes stores files based on the tag information in the file. Specifically artist, album and track tags in that order.
The folder structure will be artist/album/track.
Make the artist tag be Madonna and Britney. Or whatever else you want.

  • How to make one album show up for multiple artists?

I'd like some albums to show up under multiple artists in iTunes in Windows.  Say for example "The Basement Tapes" by Bob Dylan and The Band.  It would be nice to see this album under both these artists.  Or to have "Two Men With the Blues" show up under both Willie Nelson and Wynton Marsalis.  Can I do that with iTues?  If so I haven't figured out how.  It would be nice if using a delimiter such as as comma, slash of semi-colon would signify to iTunes that it should lists those songs under all artists but it doesn't.  At least commas didn't work.  Any help would be appreciated.

iTunes doesn't have the ability to do what you want, i.e. to define multiple separated values in a field and then have the item show up when looking at a selection based on each of those values. "Bob Dylan", "The Band" and "Bob Dylan & The Band" are three distinct values that can't be linked together. Sort values can change where in a list things are displayed but shouldn't be used to attempt to merge different values as results are undefined and unpredictable.

  • Itunes for multiple family members

My situation is I've been using iTunes since its inception and built quite a library. I've been through multiple ipods and now on to iphones for multiple family members. All the while using one itunes account on separate devices for multiple family members. Now that we have iphones its become necessary to create separate icloud accounts for each family member. This creates a problem for those with new icloud accounts. The iTunes music library can no longer be shared on separate devices (that I know of). The music library and playlists I have built over years cannot be shared with those devices that now have separate icloud accounts. I am aware of "family sharing" and have set that up going forward but how do I resolve the issue of all the music and playlists that were shared when we all used one itunes account, prior to creating separate icloud accounts? I hope this makes sense. For example my wife and son no longer have access to any of the music/playlists on their iphones that they used to have prior to creating their own accounts. Even though all purchases made before and after creating separate icloud accounts were made using the same credit card.
I believe I could just go back to having the other devices sign back into my itunes account and I think that may resolve the issue but what happens to purchases that were made on the other devices while they were signed into their own accounts? Another point that comes up is that we all have gift card balances on each itunes account. This is so confusing

This is great news as I've been struggling with this issue for some time. Mainly because my wife is a little old school and likes to put music on CD's and this solves that problem. Thanks again!!

  • ITunes for multiple accounts for Windows XP

I am the admin on my PC with Windows XP. I have iTunes installed under my account. I just got my wife an Nano. Can I install another iTunes under her account, move the music to a shared folder, and have both iTunes use that shared library? If not, can you please share the best approach. Thank you.

you shouldn't have to install itunes in her account. she should have it already in her account if it has been installed on yours.
these documents step you through the procedures for what you want to do:

  • Using iTunes For Multiple iPod's

    Hey,
Anyone know how to use iTunes for two iPod's without the songs being erased and all that ...kind of like having two seperate library folders.
    Thanks In Advance,

Well there are two way to go about this.
Number 1. Having seperate windows accounts, with iTunes on both, will give you seperate libraries.
Number 2. Set both iPods to update Automatically but to only the playlists you select. This will keep your playlists on it and whatever you don't want on there off. Same goes for the other iPod.
I myself use the number 2 option for my iPod Video and my Moms Nano. The only thind you got to remember, if you plan on updating or if you added new music and want it on your iPod, is to select the new playlist you made. This options works great

  • Adjust volume via iTunes for multiple speakers

I upgraded my iTunes to 6.02 and finally it is possible to select multiple AE and my PC at the same time to stream music to them.
It works almost perfect for me! Just one thing bugs me:
I can't adjust the volume on my AE via Airtunes if I selected my computer and my AE. When I try to adjust my volume in iTunes, the volume on my computer changes but the volume on my AE doesn't.
If I select just one of them, either works perfectly but not togeter.
My settings are right (preferences > advanced > disable iTunes volume control for remote speakers = OFF).
The funny thing is that on a Mac it works perfectly but on my Win XP Pro not!
Is this a common problem for Win XP and is there a solution for this?
    Windows XP Pro

I have the same issue, but don't blame Apple. Just getting multiple AE's to work is so cool I'm still in heaven.
I don't see how Apple could engineer the ability to stream different volume levels to different AE's.

  • Organizing Media for multiple device usage?

Many apologies if this is a common question (having looked here I couldn't tell if it was addressed to my specs) but I have a generalized question in reference to organizing ALL of my media (music, photos, movies/videos, files) that can be accessed and shared between the multiple devices we have in our family (Iphone4, Iphone 3GS, AppleTV, Ipad2 coming…). I feel like we have all these many files spread out over a bunch of different hard drives and devices and want to find a way, be it an App that does it or a book/how to guide I can use to compile all of my files into one source to be used and freely shared by all devices. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated, thanks!
    Joe

    Hey Randman 20,
Thanks for the reply! Yeah, consolidating files is one thing, but more importantly, how I can access and share the music, photos and video I have on say one drive with my laptop but more importantly with my iPhones and iPad2. I have an iPhone, my wife as well and I have an iPad2 for work, and to be able to sync all these devices and manually move files from one to another without having to deal with access problems or non-allowance to put everything on any of our approved devices effortlessly.
I dont mind taking a weekend to organize (any tips or points to software assistance would always be appreciated) its more just finding a way to have one place be the source for all of my media.
    Thanks!
    Joe

  • How can I organize apps in itunes for multiple ipads?

I have 3 ipads for my classroom.  The job of organizing my apps into folders is tedious.  Isn't there a way to organize them and keep them sorted into folders without having to redo this for every computer?  How can I save the work once I have completed it so it isn't thrown out during resets?

  • Updating to iOS 8 via iTunes for multiple iPads

Can I update multiple iPads to iOS 8 with one software download?
All iPads are currently using the latest iteration of iOS 7.
    Thank you.

Are all the iPads you mention the same model, including cellular vs. Wi-Fi only? If so, then yes you can update all of them with the same download.
However, if they are different models, then you'll have to download the update file for each different model number.

  • How do I set up iTunes for multiple Windows identities?

We are a family of 5, all with separate Windows XP identities on the same PC.  Each has an iPod, and several of us have additional devices (iPhone, iPad, iTouch, iMac).  Everyone has their own email addresses.  But right now, every device is using a single instance of iTunes, and they are all using my email address. With stuff being shared with iCloud, I am thinking that now is the time to segregate everyone into their own iTunes accounts.
How do I accomplish this, in such a way that all our tunes and apps can still be shared?  It is as easy as setting up iTunes on each person's Windows identity and then linking that new instance of iTunes to the folders where the music and apps are?
Asking before I do this because I really don't want to screw this up.  Thanks to all - in advance - for you help and suggestions.

    Hi Diesel,
Many thanks for your reply. I have been doing that, but running it as an administrator means that my calendar info is not synced. I get a blank calendar on my iPad.  I need to be able to set it up so that users can run it in their own accounts. There must be a way to do this?
    Kind regards,
    Euan

  • DRM for iPod/iTunes for multiple iPods, shared computers

In my family there are four people who use iTunes/iPod. Two are adults with Apple IDs, two are children who do not (and will not) have credit cards. We have two shared Windows XP computers and two shared Mac OS 9 machines. We just got our third iPod. Thus far, the first two iPods have been connected to just one machine (a WinXP; iTunes has been used from just one Windows account, I think) and the third iPod has not yet been connected to any computer. I need a sufficiently general explanation of the DRM scheme and relevant configuration options to understand what I can/should do in this situation. Thanks!

    Hi, Mike.
I need a sufficiently general explanation of the DRM scheme and relevant configuration options to understand what I can/should do in this situation.
The scheme is that songs purchased on any given iTS Account can be authorized for play on a maximum of five separate computers. An iPod can contain items from a maximum of five different iTS accounts at a given time.

  • Methods to turn multiple artist songs into 1 artist for search on ipod/itun

I am trying to take some of my CDs with songs that have multiple artists and only have the main artist appear on my iPod when I go to Music->Artists.
For example: 50 Cent; most of his songs have multiple artists.
On my iPod when I go to Music->Artists I see
    50 Cent/Olivia
    50 Cent/Tony Yayo
    50 Cent; Eminem
    50 Cent; Eminem; Lloyd Banks
    etc...
I want all these songs to only be under their main artist being 50 Cent. I would like to go to Music->Artists and see only 50 Cent instead of this list of artists.
There is a solution to this where you just swap the Artist field with the Album artist so you still retain the multiple artist information. I am anal and would like to keep the fields how they are, is there a way around this?
I would also prefer a fast method as I do not like having to select one song at a time and going to getInfo to change swap the fields.

Have you had a look at this troubleshooting page? It may be of some help: Why aren't songs with the same album art grouped together

  • When copying (importing) a CD with multiple artists to itunes, how can I get all of the tracks to be on one album?

Wen copying (importing) a CD into itunes that has multiple artists or duets with a primary artist, how can I get the tracks to all appear on one album?

Generally all you need to do is fill in an appropriate Album Artist. For more details see my article on Grouping Tracks Into Albums, in particular the topic One album, too many covers.

  • When an album has multiple artist how can you make them show up on an iPod Touch 4G? I can find an artist using the search function but they don't show up in the artist view on my iPod. iTunes shows them OK when you sort by artist.

Tech support seemed to understand the question but had no answer. Why would an album with only one artist show the artist but an album with multiple artist not show any of them. The album art show various in iTunes. That makes sense but on my iPod I would expect to see all artists.

Wish I did. I tried the group function but that didn't help in iTunes. The search function is the best I came up with. I can answer the question do you have susch and such artist. But I can't browse for an artist I don't remember exactly or have misspelled. Fortunately I don't think I've bought anything from iTunes that i already had. If you can't see an artist it's possible you think you don't have something you actually do have. Sorry, still hoping for a better work around or better yet a fix.

  • Can't change sort settings for multiple items in iTunes 7.1

iTunes 7.1 introduces a great feature—the ability to set a separate Sort Name, Sort Artist, Sort Album, etc. This means that "Weird Al" Yankovic songs can finally appear down among the Y's instead of up at the top of every list, by changing the Sort Artist to Yankovic, Weird Al.
Unfortunately, this feature is fatally crippled in 7.1. As far as I can tell, you can only change the Sorting information on individual tracks. When you change the information for multiple tracks, the Sorting tab doesn't show up. This renders the feature all but useless.
Let's say (hypothetically) that your friend is an enormous nerd (in theory) and your friend has 139 "Weird Al" Yankovic tracks (for the purposes of this example only, of course). Instead of just selecting all these tracks at once and changing the Sort Artist to Yankovic, "Weird Al", I (I mean, he) has to retype this information for each individual track. That's crazy! Surely this must be a bug.
    Core 2 Duo 20" iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I just found the solution to this myself.
In a very un-Apple way, this is an undocumented feature only accessible by right- (or control-) clicking.
    1. Change one track to your desired sort settings (for instance, set the Sort Artist to Yankovic, Weird Al.
    2. Right-click on that track. In the contextual menu that appears, there is a new submenu called "Apply Sort Field." If you choose "Same Artist," it will apply your new sorting information to all your other tracks by "Weird Al" Yankovic (or, if you are not a huge nerd, any other artist you substitute).
