Organizing itunes U downloads in itunes

Hello
I would like to organize my content "by provider", rather than by collection, or release date. I mean by this that I have a file for all the content and courses that come from Stanford University, and another for all the content from McGill University, and so on. Currentlty, i see a huge long list of badly organized "collections" so that sometimes even separated lectures from the same course are forced into different lists. How can I organize all this in a way that makes sense to me?
thank you

I have had this problem but I think it is not that the download does not happen, it is that the 'materials' screen does not get updated unless one stays on it. Especially noticed it when queued several long videos & iPad went to sleep.  Woke up to look like downloads were frozen but after app restart they were there.
Especially confusing if you wake up to view status several times as the app does update the status of currently downloading file so it can appear as if several files are in mid download and frozen all at same time.
Fix s/b to update download status on coming back to that screen. Should not require unload then restart of app.

  • Organizing iTunes folder

I am sure this question has been asked a million times, so here's 1,000,001...
I am trying to organize my iTunes folders after I realized that I had accidentally put many albums (subfolders) under the wrong artist. I opened up two windows explorers and organized everything correctly. However, iTunes now cant detect the location of the albums...understandable. I get the greyed in question mark next to the songs and I have to import the folders from explorer. Is there an easier way to organize without doing this?? What a pain!! Thanks-

The easiest way to do what you want is to go to iTunes preferences and under the Advanced tab, check the "Keep iTunes Folder organized" checkbox. iTunes will then organize all of you files in folders by artist, sub-folders by album, music files in the album folders. Since it sounds like this is the way you are organizing things manually, you may as well let iTunes do it, unless you are downloading illegal songs which have no ID3 tags. If that is the case, shame on you!
There is a second way to get the songs into iTunes without using the import function, just open a finder/explorer windows over iTunes, find the folder that has the songs you want, or the top level folder that holds all the folders with all the songs you want, and drag and drop it into the iTunes window. Viola! iTunes will import all the songs/albums/artists you drop in. If you have no checked "Keep iTunes Folder organized" under the advanced tab of the preferences pane, then they will stay just where you have them in your folder hierarchy.
Another hint for those who have had to manually reorganize their libraries for any reason and now iTunes cannot find anything. With or without "Keep iTunes Folder organized" checked, just open the iTunes folder. With iTunes NOT running, find and delete the 2 through 4 files (not folders, just files) with the word Library in them. Now start up iTunes, it will come up empty, ask you to create a new library, etc. Check the create new library option. When iTunes finishes starting up and you are looking at an empty library, take and drag and drop the iTunes Music folder from your iTunes folder into the empty iTunes library window and POOF iTunes will import everything with all the folder information correct. If you have checked "Keep iTunes Folder organized," it will fix any organizational errors you may have, if not, it will keep the order of folders and sub-folders you created.

  • Help,..Need some suggestions from organized iTunes users

    A couple of simple questions.
    1. I have 5000 songs. A total unorginised mess where many are not labeled completly or correctly ( missing album or named incorrectly with band and title in the name box or worse with a number preceeding the whole name ).
All songs are listed under music Library in one big list.
    MY 1st QUESTION IS,
what would be the best way todeal with this mess and orginze it
    2. I have songs and albums I have downloaded or songs from cd's I have in a folder that is not my main music folder.
    MY 2nd QUESTION IS,
what the best way to get these in the itunes music folder and recognised by itunes.
    3. My 5 gig ipod is in the same mess, any advice on cleaning it up.
Thanks for any help or suggestions

The iTunes library refers to 2 things.
It's all the music you see when you open iTunes and click on Library.
It is also a file in iTunes folder, which contains and the song info, playlist, ratings, etc.
Playlists are simply a list of songs in the library.
If song is not displayed in iTunes when you select Library, it is not in iTunes.
The iTunes music folder is not the iTunes library.
The music in that folder should be in the library, but it is not the library itself.
If you have songs on your computer and you cannot see them in the iTunes app, use File -> Add file {or folder} to library.
Once you have all your music in iTunes, follow the stpes to consolidate. This copies everything which shows up when you select Library in iTunes to the location in iTunes prefs -> Advanced.
Once this is done, select Library in iTunes.
Everything you see here (and only what you see here), will be in the new folder in iTunes prefs -> Advanced.
You can then delete all the music files in any other location on your computer.

  • Organizing iTunes Library onto two external disks

I would like to keep my Music files on one external disk and the Podcasts files on another external disk.
I understand how to designate the media files to an external disk, but am not clear how to split the two different sources between two separate libraries.

I see. To get a better idea of what is being stored where please download and run the script iTunesInfo which should output something like this:
I'm interested in the block of 4 results starting ITL location. If your profile name shows up somewhere replace it with <Name>.  It is also worth checking under Edit > Preferences > Advanced to see where iTunes thinks your media is supposed to go. My script estimates the setting based on the location of the first media file it can actually find.

  • Organizing iTunes Music files My Documents/My music/iTunes folder

My iTunes folders are all set up by artist. If a particular CD has many artists, I wound up with lots of folders, many with only one or 2 songs in them.
How can I rearrange the folders so that each folder contains only songs (files) from one particular CD?
    Thanks,
    David

Albums with multiple different artist are whats called compilation albums/CDs. What you need to do is open iTUnes, and in the main library, hit the "Albums" header so everything in the list is organized by albums. Now you can easily highlight all songs on one album with different artist rightclick, hit "Get Info" and check the box beside "Part of compilation".
When you do this iTUnes will move all the songs into
    C://........My Music/iTUnes/iTUnes Music/Compilations/(Album name)/(Artist)

  • Organizing itunes makes it freeze?

I've been trying to organize all my stuff in itunes lately, but everytime I try, it freezes frequently, then when I have to force quit, I lose half the work I did.  Anyone have this problem before or have suggestions for what I can do to avoid this?  It's driving me nuts that now part of my library is organized and the rest isn't, but this is very frustrating.

    Hello Tammy.
Although possibly not related to your problem, I will remind you that the version of Firefox you are using at the moment has been discontinued and is no longer supported. Furthermore, it has known bugs and security problems. I urge you to update to the latest version of Firefox, for maximum stability, performance, security and usability. You can get it for free, as always, at [http://www.getfirefox.com getfirefox.com].
As for your issue, this may be a problem with the toolbar you are trying to install. You need to contact the toolbar's author for support. Unless you can't install any extension at all. Is that the case?

  • Organizing Itunes songs by "Dated Created"

here's what I want to do in iTunes and why I want to do it:
I want to organize my songs (and media) by date they were "created". this organizes in a different fashion than "date modified" or "date added". Why haven't they added this as a view option yet? Windows allows you organize files by the date they were created, why can't it be done in iTunes?
Here's why I want to see my songs organized by "date created":
My itunes database has crashed a few times, and I want to see the albums ordered as I "created" them in the past. I have a large library now, and it's mainly from records and cds as source material. Now, I realize there is going to be a few out of place songs (such as purchased songs form the music store, etc.), but the bulk of what I've added to my collection has been done in a chronological fashion that will enable me to start again from where I left off since my library databases became corrupt...
Any ideas? Oh, I'm switching to the intel Mac soon, so maybe apple has this figured out on there mac iTunes software.

Patrick, there is a bpm tag for each song/file you have. If your files are .mp3s, then there is an easy way to get easily the speed and tag each of them fast. It's a free app called BPM analyzer. http://www.mixmeister.com/bpmanalyzer/bpmanalyzer.asp. Once you have the BPM of each song you can create a smart playlist limiting the speed or determing a range. If you add the BPM column, You can sort your lists by it.

  • Organizing iTunes files

    hey everyone,
i would really appreciate anyone's help on this one.
I have a large music library on iTunes that needs to be organized badly. the people that have previously worked on this computer organized the files by creating a playlist with the artist's name and album. So, the actual files on the hard drive are all organized under unknown artist-unknown album. I need to get all this music organized in the file hierarchy somehow under the actual artist and album name. i have already tried going under info for the songs and changing the artist name and album but that does not change the physical file's organization on the drive.
Hope this all makes sense to someone.
    I appreciate you help

Go to iTunes preferences and look in the advanced tab. Make sure you have "keep itunes music folder organized" turned on. This should rearrange your files whenever you change the tags in the song info dialog.

  • Organizing Itunes Library: Numbers First

I recently updated my Itunes and afterwards the artists whose names begin with a number (2pac, 311, 50 cent...) are at the bottom of my library after "Z". I know its a little anal, but, I liked those artists in front of the "A" artists. Does anybody know how to change it back to the old way? Thanks, I appreciate the help

  • Organizing iTunes

My iTunes library is showing the same album multiple times, but with different artist. It is also showing up like this on my phone. I can have the same album listed 5 times or more just because a different artist sings a particular song on that album. This is very irratating. Is there anyway for it to just show the album once with all the songs listed on that album, that way it only shows up in iTunes and my iPhone once?

Click on the column headers to get what you want.
You might also turn on more columns using iTunes >
    Edit > View Options
I have a similar question.....While importing some songs from another application, they were placed in iTunes in incorrect order. I would simply like to put them in the right order, but it seems I can only do this by creating a seperate playlist and then click-and-dragging them wherever I want within that playlist. Is there a way to do this within the general library? If there isn't, someone should get fired.

  • Organizing itunes library

Just today I tried to add a file to my itunes library, all of a sudden my library decided to re-arrange itself. It had previously been grouped alphabetically by artist, now the songs are listed alphabetically. This is very frusturating because the artists are all over the place, and it is impossible to listen to a list of songs by the same artist without searching through my library forever for each song. Does anyone know how to switch it back?

getting your library back into alphabetical order just go to songs (titles) and click on it...it should put them back the way they were...this is an easy fix, I believe. The same thing will apply when listing by artist; you can put alphabetically from "Z" to "A" if you like, or click on artist and let it re-arrange again....try it a couple times..nothing moves or deletes...

  • Organizing iTunes tracks

Hi., I've been using editing software to break a long audio track into its individual songs. How do I get iTunes to play them as part of a single album? Even though I'm moving each separate track into one folder in the Tunes music folder, the player treats the tracks as separate albums. Any ideas?
    Thanks mucho,
    Dave

    Hi Dave,
At the simplest level, for iTunes to treat a group of tracks as one album they should have the same Album name and the same Album Artist. Occasionally iTunes can still break up the album when those conditions are met in which case my article on Grouping tracks into albums should have the answers.

  • Organizing iTunes by bitrate?

I was just curious if there was a way to organize the songs on my iTunes by bitrate. Some of my older cd's were ripped at a lower bitrate to save space. I have a bigger hard drive now, and I want to know which of my cd's I need to re-rip. Is there a way I can organize my iTunes by bitrate?

    Select Music under Library.
Right click on any column header and select Bitrate.
Select this column header to sort on this column.
