Organizing music in ITunes by pre-existing folders in Windows

Hello,
I'm a brand new user of Itunes, Just got an Ipod Touch for my new car stereo (Pioneer Avic Z110bt) which has a great interface for ipods. I have until now strictly used a program called Winamp to play all my music and I love it. I have organized all my music into folders based on Mood (Relaxing, Popular, Heavy Metal, Depressing, Psyched). Is there anyway to keep this organization in ITunes? I never listen to music by artist or genre. I know I could create playlists of all the folders I have created but that would take forever, unless I'm just missing something. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Awesome the playlist idea worked very well, I just removed all my music from the main directory and just made playlists, that way no increased space taken up for no reason on my harddrive and no additional unwanted folders Thank you!

I have my music orginzed a certain way in iTunes and when it's synced with the Touch its not in the same order on the touch.
Example: Newly added songs are in alphabetical order in iTunes on the Touch they are not in alphabetical order under newly added.

A known bug in the Touch's 3.1.x OS. The workaround is to edit the smart playlist and add the criteria "Playlist Is Music", where Music is the general folder in your iTunes library for music items. Do that and re-sync, then you'll have what you want.

I uploaded music to my iPhone 4 (ios 6) from PC. Music files are tagged with genres, which i can se i.e. on winamp. When i want to open music on iPhone under specific genre, it shows me, that there is no music. Organizing music in iTunes is pretty hard and mysterious to me. Please help! Thx!

Can't copy purchased music from iTunes to iPod(logged into a Windows domain

I'm running iTunes on Windows XP. I've been using it to manage my music including purchasing music for iTunes.The laptop I'm using I also use it for work and log into a work Domain. I recently purchased an iPod (video) and attempted to transfer music via iTunes. When I manually try to transfer purchased songs only iTunes closes. I can transfer songs that have been imported into the library via CD. I receive a message "iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the
inconvenience." My user login has administrator rights to the PC (where iTunes is installed). All my music files are kept on an external hard drive. I've called Apple support and reinstalled the software several times with the same results. I did create a new user that logs in to
the PC (not the work Domain), that can somehow transfer the music to the iPod. But I can not see any folders, playlists, or purchased music that was established when logged on the work Domain. That solution isn't sufficient because I can't normally create different users
and run iTunes (and other products) this way.
Anyone encounter this problem? Any suggestions?

This sounds like an interesting snag - clearly if you can get copied CD tracks onto the iPod there isn't an issue PC to iPod.
I wonder if the inability to copy downloaded music is related to the very clever stuff Apple do to prevent you writing more than seven copies of those tracks? Just a thought - I have no idea how it all works, but it occurs to me it could get embroiled in network stuff?? If you are friendly with your administrator ask them if you can have a go at connecting your iPod to a computer with admin rights, and see if you get a more helpful error message.

Organizing music in iTunes

I apologize if this question has been posted in the past, but I'm having a difficult time successfully searching the thousands of threads here.
I am a new iPod owner (80gb) and am trying to organize my music. I am running Windows XP and have my mp3s organized exactly as I'd like them on an external hard drive. My problem is that I cannot figure out how to get iTunes to import and organize them the same way.
An example of how my music is organized (in Windows Explorer on my hard drive) is as follows:
<folder> mp3s
--<folder> classical
----<folder> bach
------*files
------*Winamp playlist(s)
------*subfolders
----<folder> beethoven
------*files
------*subfolders
------*subfolders within subfolders

Any suggestions on how to successfully make my iTunes library look like my Windows Explorer library would be much appreciated. I've spent considerable time in the past organizing my files and playlists into Windows folders/subfolders and would like to avoid re-learning how to re-organize everything in iTunes.

No, iTunes cannot do as you want.
It organizes on the drive by Artist -> Album.
But everything is done in iTunes. so how/where it is stored on the drive is pretty much irrelevant.
You can maintain your own structure in one of two ways.

iTunes prefs -> Advanced.
Uncheck Copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library.
File -> Add folder to library and start adding yoru folders. They will go into iTunes but willstay where they are. iTunes will not copy them into the iTunes music folder.

iTunes prefs -> Advanced.
Uncheck Keep iTunes music folder organized.
Drag your music folders into the iTunes music folder.
File -> Add Folder to library and select these folders.
iTunes will keep the directory structure as it is and simply add them the library.
If you later tick Keep iTunes music folder organized, it will move and rename everything according to the ID3 tags into Artis -> Album folders.
Note that iTunes playlists are not saved as a separate file like WinAmp or WMP. They are part of the iTunes library file.

My ipod touch's music in "my top rated playlist" is not alphabetically organized even though in itunes the music in this playlist is alphabetically organize. How can I organize my music in ipod touch alphabetically just like in itunes?

Organizing Music in iTunes 7.6.1.9

OK, this may be a simple issue, but it is driving me bonkers. Any help would be appreciated!
I like to have my music organized by Album in my iTunes window. In the older versions, when you sorted by the Album column, it would then sub-sort by track number. For whatever reason, my music now sub-sorts alphabetically by Artist name. Most of the tim, that's ok on 'normal' albums. I have a lot of compilations however, so this throws the track listing well out of order.
How can I get my music sorted by album and then by track number?

I can see what is going on, this is a multi artist album and when you sort by album, you get Album>Artist>Track number.
Try filling in The album artist field. You can select all the tracks in the album together, then right click get info.
This lets you change the album artist field in all the tracks at once. You need to have the same album artist for all the tracks, the field is not normally displayed unless you choose to select the column for display. I am not sure if it is necessary to flag the album as a compilation as well - you can do this in the multi - Get info window as well.

Organizing music in Itunes for Ipod.

When I transfer a WAV files from my computer all the songs get organized by index number and NOT by artist and album. This just creates a big indecipherable mess when I upload to my ipod. (the files I'm transferring from my have been organized by artist and album title so the info is definitely available)
Is there any way to organize in Itunes by artist and album? (this seems like a ridiculous question to have to ask)

Organizing music for iTunes/ipod- help

Example, I have several Tom Petty songs. However, 3 songs are in one place, 1 song in another place, 7 songs in another place.
SO.. when I go to play all my Tom Petty, and I hit the Tom Petty song that is in a separate folder it will auto stop after that one song, even though there are 10 more Tom Petty songs.
How do I place all my singles by the same artist in the same folder so the music continually plays on my iPhone when I look up Tom Petty.

Make a smart playlist.
Artist contains Tom Petty.

Organizing music with iTunes Problem

Hi, I had downtime today at work, and I decided to organize my iTunes library. However, some tracks are showing up on the same album, but not grouped together. I have selected every option possible in the Get Info menu. I have done all I can think of, yet these tracks still remain separate

Like I've said, I've checked at made sure the tracks for the albums all have the same Get Info information. Help?

Oh, that always works for me. Do you set Album Artist? If not try setting that as well - either to the artist or if a compilation set to, say, 'Various'

When I sync my ipod to add new material, sometimes itunes will automatically rearrange the song order of my pre-existing albums by number of plays. Why does it do this? And is there a way to stop it?

When I add an album to itunes and subsequently to my ipod, everything is arranged by track number of the album. Sometimes when I sync in order to add new material to my ipod, itunes for some reason automatically rearranges some of my pre-existing material by songs with the greatest number of plays to least (though sometimes it seems to be completely random). When I check itunes on my computer, everything still appears to be in order but the way it appears on the device often is in the previously mentioned disorder. Why does it do this? Is there any setting that I can adjust to make it stop because the only way I've found so far is to delete the rearranged material and re-import the cd and then re-sync. It might sound picky, but I prefer that my music be in order by track number as the artists themselves intended for various reasons the foremost being that I often listen to whole albums from start to finish and this glitch makes such problematic. I have found some settings in preferences that focus on how material is arranged but this seemed to be focused on the actual folders where the music is located on my hard drive and not the way it appears on the ipod. If anyone knows the reason it does this or has suggestions on fixing it, I would be greatly appreciative. Thanks.

Did the original songs that do not appear on the car player play in the Music app on the iPod? Sometimes glitches happen and they do not. Also, If y ohave a 5G iPod/iOS 7, purchase songs will show with an cloud icon by them if they are not downloaded if Shall All is turned on in Settings>iTunes and App Store

I'm new to iTunes and believe that I should be able to find and include pre-existing music files on my PC?
I've found out how to show the menu bar but I can't see how to do the above except file/folder by file/folder.

My music files are "missing". How do I get itunes to locate the files without identifying each music folder (files are in separate folders under torrent data and I don't want to open each one of them individually)

Trouble importing pre-existing videos on my computer into iTunes?

I'm having trouble importing pre-existing videos on my computer into my iTunes library? For example, I've tried adding a home video and opening it with iTunes, etc, and no error comes up or anything, it just doesn't show up in my iTunes library, not in the music, TV, Movies, Podcasts or Radio. What is the problem, does the video need to be converted to a suitable format? If so, what is this and how do I do this? Music and Video on Nas in folders but how do i set up itunes on multiple computers to see and use these files and create libraries?
So i have had a itunes set up on my old PC, bought a NAS and copied the folders over to the NAS, i did this incorrectly and so then even when i told the old PC to use that folder it saw all the songs but wasnt able to play the songs as it was looking in the incorrect place.
So now i want my Mac as well as my PC and others to all use the music, videos etc on the NAS they are in itunes friendly folders (as they were compiled this way by the itunes on the old PC.
When i tell the mac to use the itunes library.itl file it sees the song list (about 100gb) but cant see any songs, so i have removed this file to another location for now with the hope to set up a new file and then get it to see the songs on the folder from the NAS.
Can someone tell me how to do this for all the Mac's and PC's on my network as i really want one master library that all use and add too.
