Organizing music videos

In iPhone 5 OS7 Video app my Music Videos are separate not by artists then their videos is their a way to fix this problem? Example Katy Perry I have 4 Music videos of her's downloaded on my computer and added to iTunes liberty but when I sink the Video app just puts them all together with my over 400 personal music video's that I have put into iTunes and scrolling down through all that without a Search or Alphabet key is daunting.

There are 21 music videos and then the audio commentary at the end. I bought it from iTunes as a music video album. The commentary lasts through all the videos in album order, which is why I wanted it that way. Thanks to you both for your help!

  • Organizing Music and videos

    Hello,
I have a few questions I hope that can be answered. Can I change the order a song appears in my libary? I would like some to stay in the order of the cd. Next, I've been organizing my videos. I like to have the right one appear when I click a type in the menu bar. A example, a music video appears when I click movies, and disappears when I click Music video. I've notice in the options tab of get info. A pull down that say, video kind. But, it is not available to push. Any other options? And, finally I have an audio book the does the same thing.
    Thanks for any help.
    Marcus

The Library can be sorted by any of the headings at the top of the list (artist, title, etc.). To sort in CD order, click on the Album heading. By the way, in case you haven't used this yet, the Browse mode (Edit->Show browser) allows you to quickly navigate between artists and albums (same rule for sorting).
If clicking the album heading does not give you the CD order, then it's a problem with the track numbers in teh ID3 tags. Open the get info window and amke sure the track numbers are set to the order on the CD.
I haven't used videos yet in iTunes, but there's been a lot people here complaning that they can't "organize" their videos into Apple's categories. Apparently the info that iTunes uses is not user-editable so basically iTunes can only organize videos bought from the iTMS (where they are properly "categorized"). Videos you bring in yourself into iTunes can't be classified. Look up video and you'll see a bunch of threads on this topic. I haven't read them lately, maybe someone has come up with an answer.

Why cant I create a playlist for my music/song videos? Continuous play is also not possible in the video app on the phone!!!! previously, prior to IOS 6, it was possible to have both music videos & songs mixed in the same playlist in the music app

I am back with an update. I turned off Match on both the ipad and the iphone 5. By doing so I was able to sync my Iphone and ipad to itunes and store the music on my devices rather than the slow streaming.  So far this has fixed my problems with the iphone I have all my music, playlist, most of the album art and so on.  But the ipad is a different story.  I have the music and artist but not one playlist  I am sure Apple will have an upgrade soon that will address these issues they are usually very good about this.
Now have any of you experienced another problem that has existed as long as I have used faces in Aperture.
I have over 200 faces and they are organized a-z problem is I have this going on A-Z folowed by a few that start over A-Z followed by another few A-Z and again a 4th time A-Z.  Imagine how difficult it is while I am showing someone the great features of my iphone, ipad and imac.  Which I do talk highly of all the time.  But how do I explain that even though their name starts with a or b or what ever they are not important enough to me to be in the first list of A-Z or even the 2nd or 3rd list of A-Z someohow they are in the 4th section of the list!!!!
I have managed to get the Imac to fix this but for some reason the IOS devices do not.   Any ideas?
    Thanks Al

  • Importing and organizing raw video footage - options

    greetings-
Looking for a better solution, if available, for importing & organizing raw video. I am using imovie for now. Soon to switch to FC express. After much exploring & learning on my new machine (recent convert), I’m a bit frustrated on how it video is handled.
Please correct any of these that I’ve got wrong, but it appears that:
Importing video (from DV camera) with programs provided on my machine can only be done through imovie and idvd.
Importing video through these programs requires creating a project, and importing the video to that project.
Then that imported video is associated with that project.
So I want to take the imported clips (say from imovie), and organize them archiving, use on other projects, backup, etc. I know that I can find the actually video files by control clicking on the project in finder, hit show package, and get to "clip 1, clip 2...clip 55". This represents the raw footage, but now I’ve got say 55 separate clips, for just one import.
I’d like to effectively organize my various raw videos by year/event etc. So that when working a project, a can pull in the different footage that I want to use. For instance, I previously imported and organzied video footage with my PC editing software, and now, thankfully, I can just bring that various footage from the external drive into Imovie and edit. If I want to do a project and grab some footage from 04, 05, 06, it's all right there.
Is there a better solution for import & organizing my raw video clips more efficiently with imovie or idvd?? Or perhaps another program. Such that I’ve got the 1/2 hr of video "Christmas 05", one file (not 40 seperate clips), saved, and can pull it into projects as needed in the future... Ideally maintaining the clip breaks. Am I asking to much from apple? How do you all import/manage/save your imported video?
    Much thanks for any feedback!

    Ciao Rubbersoul,
unfortunately iMovie doesn't allow you to rename the clips (other than within the project), so if you want to label them for future reference, you'll have to do that outside iMovie.
I personally save the best shots from each project to an external hard drive using the following method:
    • simply drag the desired clips from the iMovie project to the desktop
    • organize the clips by creating the appropriate folders (e.g. by subject, time, etc.), so you'll find your footage faster
    • rename the clips within the folders. If you don't need to give each clip a separate name, you can use tools like Renamer4Mac (http://www.power4mac.com) to batch-rename the clips.
    • transfer and organize your folders/clips on the external (Firewire) hard disk. You can do that manually or by using media browsers like iDive to organize and view your clips. iDive is a digital hub that can help you to keep not only your video but also music and pic collections under control, and it integrates with iMovie and FCE/FCP. Check it out here:

Always remember that DV eats up a lot of disk space and don't forget to back up your footage to tape.
    spero che ti sia d'aiuto

  • MP4's tagged as music video only play audio + static picture?

    Hi everyone,
Is it normal that MP4 files, that have been tagged as Music Video (Itunes Media Type), only show a static image on playback instead of a moving image.
I assumed that a music video would show the video too. Hence the tag name "Music VIDEO"
So at this point, I'm looking at a still image. Audio plays fine though.
    Thank you for your help,
    Jeroen

This same exact thing happened to me just recently. My videos played fine since I got my iPod in December and now they just play audio and are organized in with my "music" menu. I've looked around and a lot of people seem to have this happening to them also, but no one has had a real solution that I've found. I think it may have something to do with an iTunes update since the problem happened after I updated.

  • Music Video Editing 101

I posted this a few years back - before it rolled off the end of the discussions, I moved it to Dave Slater's ProAppTips.com which is currently in limbo due to hacker problems, but he retrieved the text for me and I thought it might be handy to post now. I should update it for using MultiClips, but they can be problematic, depending on how the video was shot and the timing/overlap of the coverage available (see: MultiCam and Music Videos). For now, I'll just post it as it was originally written.
    _*Music video editing 101*_
Although I've cut probably over 250 music videos, this is only how I work. What works for you may be entirely different and more productive for you. I am not here to champion these techniques and I invite anyone else to post how they do it.
Okay down to business. Digitizing material: I capture all the available material, preferably in 20-30 minute chunks. Among other things, the large chunks can come in handy if there is a discrepancy between the timecode on the offline tapes and the master tapes. I watch the material as it comes in and note anything of interest (cool shots, etc). After capture, I go thru and put markers at the start of each take and scene. I'll go into the philosophy of logging/overlogging later.
Now, music videos can most often be divided into two sections - performance and concept (or story). The first thing to tackle is the performance. Not only is this locked to the areas of the song being performed (barring cheating choruses or other repeating stuff), but it helps you to know where you want to put the story (which is where your performance coverage is the weakest).
How I cut performance is this. First, I try to pick a good overall base take of performance - this is often a wider shot that covers the whole band. I usually have chosen this take while watching the material as I capture. I put the master audio in the sequence and cut this video take onto V1. This is because I find it easier to cut into something rather than cut a shot into black. Now I go back and start at the first take and hopefully there was a smart slate used, but however I do it, I get the take lined up so that the frame in the viewer is at the same point in the song as the frame in the canvas, then set gang sync (I have a this mapped to a keypress).
I then play what I have in the viewer until I see something I like. Now, because I've ganged the edit with this take, it's been following along, so I can quickly pop over to see what is at that point in my edit and see if what I just saw in the take looks better. If it does, I cut it in, If not, I can ignore it, or cut it onto V2/V3/V4, etc and set its visibility off (ctrl-b). Why would I do that? Maybe later I need to change the shot because the singer doesn't like himself from that side, or I need more shots of the drummer, or I've changed the edit and the shot doesn't work anymore, or maybe I'll be able to cheat it in at another point of the song. The point is, I'm going thru the material now and I might as well save anything I like so I won't have to look for it later. Tossing it onto a higher video track keeps it in sync with where it should fall in the song.
Now go I back and keep playing the take and when I see the next thing I like, repeat the process. I continue this until I've finished the take. Then I repeat this for all takes. It's time consuming, but I've found it to be the only way to ensure you've given due consideration to all the material and you can say you have the strongest performance in your edit. And your goal is to make a performance cut so tight that it will be painful to give up areas of it to concept. I also keep a bin/sequence of non-sync cutaways - maybe a drum hit, maybe a look from the lead singer, maybe a bass riff. These are important to your cut, but you can treat them like concept - i.e. you can put them anywhere you need to.
When you've finished your performance cut, duplicate your sequence (You might also have done this during stages of your performance cut, just to keep backups). The reason you want to now is to always have a pure performance cut to go back to.
Now consider the concept. Sometimes it warrants cutting it all together as a story complete, other times it will only function as cutaways or it illustrates specific lines in the song, etc. However you get the concept organized, the performance cut will provide a roadmap as to where to place the concept. Sometimes it's blatantly obvious (like you have no performance for a certain area), other times (if you've done a good job on the performance cut) it will be a struggle to find where to put it. I always keep my performance on its own layer/s and add a new layer for the concept. This is to allow ease of re-arranging the story. If you have it on its own layer, you won't need to replace the missing performance if you shift the concept around, you'll just reveal the existing (wonderfully tight) performance below.
I could go on and on about this, but those are the basics. As to timing, I usually allow myself 2 days for capture and performance cut. Third day is concept. Fourth day massaging the overall edit. Send off that night for comments. Fifth day is changes from artist/label/management. Lather, rinse, repeat.
Finally a bit about logging of footage. When I first started editing, it was on a linear, tape-based system. So I had a wall of thermal printouts to guide me to my selects and whenever I needed a specific shot, it usually involved a lot of shuttling thru tape. An inevitable beneficial fallout of this work flow is that I'd often find a better shot than the one I was searching for, simply because I had to shuttle to find my intended shot.
This fostering of happy accidents was lost when I started editing non-linear. Because I could instantly go where ever I wanted, I only ever found what I wanted and lost a certain spontaneity to my edits. They became more predictable. It took me a little while to realize this and to come up with some solutions.
First of all, I don't overlog footage. None of this clips named "The one where Jack finds the beans and discovers the true meaning of friendship in wide shot with the cow OOF over his right shoulder (sky has clouds)". I make it so I always know where to find my shot, but not so I can just get there without shuttling a bit. Also, I try to keep a sequence of selects. Shots that I like, but haven't found a use for yet. Thats where I always go to find a shot I need - that way, shuttling thru the sequence, I am exposed to shots that I know are good and may be better than the shot I think I am looking for.
Anyone else want to post their work flow?
    Patrick

Great workflow Patrick. The one main thing missing that I use in music video editing is the grouping of multiclips to group all of your performance takes into one clip. For those that haven't used this then you have access to all performance takes at any given point in the song. This is handy as you might have 50 to 100 takes on some videos. The thing that makes a grouping of multiclips easy is the use of a timecode slate and an audio master (though aux code grouping can be done without it). You then assign an auxiliary timecode to each take and group your mulitclip by that. In avid land I subclip a masterclip by takes. Unfortunately Apple has done a really dumb thing in FCP. When you make subclips from a master clip and assign auxiliary timecode it will ripple the aux code of other subs from the master clip. Completely useless for music video. The solution is to capture each take in its own master clip but that is a long and tedious log that for me is totally not needed for a music video. I wish Apple would address this (it as been discussed in this thread) but it has been unchanged since the introduction of multiclips. That's why I always cut my music videos in Avid.

  • Music videos broken on iPad.

I have playlists of music videos on iTunes. Somtimes I have an album with a song or two being a music video.
Now on the iPhone's music app, everything works seamlessly. In the music app, if it's a normal song the album cover is displayed, if it's a music video the video is displayed. Everything is seamless.
On the iPad's music app, for music videos the video does not play. Only audio. It forces me to use video app, which is not as well organized, and most crucially deconstructs the shuffle or seamless play through experience. I'd rather play through all my songs and if available, display the music video.

Unfortunately the answer to your question is ... No. you cant make the built in music App work the same way that is does on the iPhone. I have no clue why Apple decided to do it this way but they did.
I don't use any of them, but there are other Music apps available for the iPad. You may want to look into one of those. Here are a few of them. You can search for more.

    - I would start with
Removing and Reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows XP
    or
Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
However, after your remove the Apple software components also remove the iCloud Control Panel via Windows Programs and Features app in the Window Control Panel. Then reinstall all the Apple software components
    - Restore from backup. See:

  • How do I get Music Video's to play in iTunes on iPad Mini with Shuffle option on Playlists (it's only playing the music not video's)?

Hi. I have got Music Video's on iPad Mini on a Playlist on iTunes. When I use 'shuffle' option the audio of the track is heard but no video is played (only a 'still' from the video). When using the Video option on the desktop, plays videos but does not allow you to 'playlist' them or shuffle them. I can shuffle Music Video playlist on iPhone and on PC. So why not on iPad Mini. Can someone help? Thanks

There does not appear to ba a facilty for this on the iPad. However there are a number of apps that will allow you to create and play video playlists. Try VP Lite which is free.

  • In IO7 how can I view my music videos in full screen?

Downloaded IO7 onto my 4S and now I cannot view my music videos in full screen. Why would I pay $3.39 for a music video from the iTunes store when I can't view the videos in full screen. The video player does it but you can't create playlists, repeat etc so that is not an option.

I do not understand what you want to do.  Please rephrase the question.

  • How can I transfer voice memos from my iPhone 4 without syncing and having all music/video/audiobook content deleted from my phone?

I would like to be able to transfer several very long voice memos from my iPhone 4 to my PC.  They are too long to email to myself. I manage music manually, so the phone doesn't sync automatically.  I have also not checked off "include voice memos" in my music sync preferences because of a warning that pops up which suggests that I will lose all the music, video & audiobook content on my phone and that it will be replaced with all iTunes content. (Several of the audiobooks on my phone were transferred in directly from my library system's audiobook service & I will lose them permanently if they are wiped off the phone.) Is there a way around this? I am able to transfer photographs directly to my computer because my PC recognizes the iPhone as an external disk and I was able to locate the photo folder, but I have no idea of where to look for the voice memo folder in order to transfer them in the same manner.  Any suggestions would be appreciated!

  • Only one music video purchased from itunes is not playing on IPod

I purchased several music videos from itunes and they all seem to sync to my ipod just fine but one of them will not play. The other three I purchased is playing fine both visual and audio but only one will not play at all. When I click on it, the screen just goes black and after several seconds, returns me to the menu listing the name of the video. It plays on my daughter's ipod just fine and we both have the same IPod. I've tried to re-sync and reset but nothing seems to work. Can someone please help me. Thx!

It may be an authorization issue. Both iTunes and the iPod need to be up-to-date.
Usually, you need to play at least a part of songs purchased from the iTMS within iTunes to authorize them. They won't copy to your iPod until you do this.
How to transfer Purchased Music from iTunes to your iPod
    iTMS Song and Computer Authorization
If you've played & authorized them in iTunes and they still skip, try this. De-authorize the computer in iTunes/Advanced menu, then re-authorize it. You re-authorize it by playing one of the songs purchased from the iTunes Music Store within iTunes. It should ask you for your Apple ID and password, and then the computer will be authorized again. Sync your iPod with iTunes, and those songs should play on the iPod once again.
Another common cause of this is not having the latest version of iTunes.
If you are using the latest version of iTunes (6.0.4), then you need to make sure your iPod software is up to date also. Get the iPod Updater software, install it, run it and update your iPod.
When you have done this, authorize your music in iTunes by playing a few seconds of it within iTunes, re-sync your iPod, and it should transfer by whatever synching method you choose.
If the above 'standard' fixes did not help, then it's a bigger problem that I can diagnose...

  • Music Video Artwork, Album Artist and Other Problems

hi I've got a few problems with my G4 Nano and was wondering if any of you guys would know what to do.
firstly the music video problem. Some album's come with a music video for one of the songs, normally at the end, but on my nano, it puts the music videos first and uses their art instead of the album art. Now the funny thing is, is that if you click them in music it shows the art and plays the audio like any other track, you can only see it the right way under video>music Video. Is there anyway to put them at the end so correct art is shown?
And then recently I bought Good Girl Gone Bad:Reloaded by rihanna from the itunes store which has a track by Maroon 5 in which she features. In cover flow (on my ipod) it has the album twice. Once with Maroon 5 as the artist and once with Rihanna. Both have the full album.
And thirdly I have some CD's I've ripped to itunes that have featuring artists, and when I add them to my ipod is says they are various artists. any way to put them under the actual artist?
Yeah there is a lot. Any help with any of these is extremely appreiciated. not because it hinders my listening to them, i can work around it all, but it's just annoying for obvious reasons. I have to say it's kind of funny that most of my problems are to do with stuff from the iTunes Music Store.
    Thanks
