Organizing photos within albums alphabetically or numerically

My photos are organized on my computer alphabetically or numerically, but when they sync to my iPad they become jumbled inside the albums.  How can I get them back in order?

On iOS 5+ they are sorted by the 'date modified' field - so you either need to manipulate their date modified fields, or you could consider using a third-party photo management app such as Photo Manager Pro which allows you to sort your photos within it by filename or date (ascending or descending), type, or you can drag them into your own sort order

  • How can I sort my photos within albums on the iPad? Apple software *****!

The primary reason I got an iPad was to use it as a portfolio of my photography. How is it possible that with Apple software you can't easily sort photos in a custom order within albums?!? I've heard there is a way to use Dropbox to work around (ignore) Apple software. Any help? If Apple engineers are reading this, can you please address this? And can we not use something called iTunes to work with pictures? No sense here.

It's a lot easier with Photo Manager Pro.

  • How can I rearrange photos within album in iPhoto 9.5

I used to be able to do this in older iphoto applications. I have gone to View and checked manual and I still cannot arrange the photos within an albun manually.

In an album you simply drag the photos where you want them - that is one reason to use albums for organization rather than events

  • Organizing Photos within an Album - PSE8

Once I've put a bunch of photos into an album, is there an easy way to sort them without moving the photos one-by-one?  For instance, suppose I want to organize them by date?  I've just got to think there's an easy and automated way to do that, but if there is, somehow I'm missing it.
    Help, please.

when you select any album , there will be a drop down present along with the Organize/Share/Create/Edit tab - "Album Order" - select that , there will Date (oldest/newest first).
    hope that helps !

  • Organizing Photos in Album

Recently upgraded from Tiger to Snow Leopard with Mac Box Set which included Mac OS X Snow Leopard, iLife '09 and iWork '09. Created albums in iLife '09 iPhoto from albums in Tiger iPhoto. No issues until I tried to "organize" photos with each of 8 albums. I can't "Drag" a photo to the correct position within the album.

Events are a basic automatic organization based on dates - some people use only events - some do not use them and use only albums - I use both
I use and recommend leaving events pretty much as iPhoto creates them (sometimes I split one or combine a few but basically my library of events is a bunch of date arranges happenings)
Then I use faces to identify Who is in a photo and places to identify where the photos is taken - albums and folders (folders contain albums and/or other folders) for more detailed organization - like trips - so a vacations folder with folders for Italy, Spain, hawaii etc in it and then albums for different trips to each in those folders for example
Many people also use keywords and smart albums for additional organization

  • Organizing Photos Into Albums

I just got an iPhone 4 and its the first iPhone I've owned. I'm wondering if it's possible to organize my photos and downloaded images into different albums. I'm an organizer and it's driving me crazy that everything is lumped together. It may be a really simple process but it I just can't figure it out.

First, you can only have one master sync album on PC's/itunes, so below is how to work around that problem:
    For windows pc's Photo albums:
    1) Create a master sync folder on your pc with no photo files at the root level of the folder.
    2) Create sub-folders within the master sync folder with the subfolders named what you want the ipad's photo albums to be named.
    3) Place the photo files you want to sync in the appropriate subfolder within the master sync folder.
    4) In itunes on the photos tab, select the master folder as the sync folder.
    5) After syncing, each subfolder will be an album on the ipad with the proper photos contained there-in.
    Hope this helps...

  • Organizing photos within an event

Is it possible to move around or relocate photos in an event. Example, I have a lot of old family photos I have copied both sides of and would like to keep them next to each other, front side photo & back side names on photo. Thanks

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
Not within an Event, no. Events are strictly based on date and time. However, make an Alnum from an Event and you can organise things as you prefer.
You can make a Album simply by dragging an Event to the word 'Albums' in the iPhoto Window. Albms take up no extra disk space. As the simply reference photos in the Library, a pic can me in many albums with no duplication.

  • Moving Photos within Album

The photos are jumping around when I am moving them to another location within the same album. It is hard to get them in the correct place.  I am using 3.2.1 and have not had this problem until last week.

Hi Peggy.  That should not be happening.  As soon as you reposition an Image (by dragging), the sort order should change (automatically) to "manual" and your manual sort should stick.  What sort order are you seeing in the sort-order drop-down at the top left of the Browser?
I can confirm that 3.2.1 on 10.6.8  works as it should on my machine.
Have your tried re-booting or doing any of the regular trouble-shooting?
Do you see the vertical green "drop line" when dragging an Image (but before dropping it)?

  • Organise photos within Album in iPhoto on iPad

Yesterday I purchased the iPhoto app for my iPad, this is due to someone recommending it to me as an easy option of presenting artwork as a portfolio. I have a batch of JPEGs in an album that I want to display in a certain order, so I named them for example 'iPad app_p01' 'iPad app_p02' and so on. But when I synced the album into iPhoto on the iPad the photos are in a random order and the only option I have is to view them by newest or oldest, no option for by name.
Please can someone help me, this seems like a really obvious option to include in a photo app.
Any help would be much appreciated.

The iPad only sorts by date, and the date is the "date modified", so if you change the version name, you are modifying the date.
I have not tried it myself, but this post looks promising:   Re: How do I sort events in iPhoto for iOS?

  • Moving Multiple photos within albums in the Organizer...

How do I select and move multiple files between albums in the Organizer?  Using Adobe Photoshop Elements 10 on an imac with Lion.  (New to Mac - previous PC user for years!)

You can select the images you want to move and drag drop the other album name on them.
As of removing the album association with the older album, simply right click the selected set of files >> Remove from Album >> (album name)
    Thanks

  • Moving photos within albums

I am using HP Essential 3.5 and I have created an album from the library. I want to rearrange the pictures and I am using the drag method as described but once I leave the album the pictures have reverted to their original positions when I return. How can I get them to stay in their new positions.

Hello greekil. I understand you are having issues formatting your albums to your liking. I have tinkered around with software, slightly. If you adjust the pictures in the album, then save the album immediately, it should keep them in the same spot.
Additionally, this is assuming all settings, relating to albums, haven't been adjusted since you started using this program.
I will continue to assist you with the issue by researching it. I need to know your computer model and operating system to continue troubleshooting.
If you need assistance locating the model number, you can reference this website: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en&docname=c00033108

  • How do you reposition photos within an event

How do you reposition photos within an event? I've tried dragging them over to the spot I want them in, but they do not stay where I put them. Yet, when I want to reposition photos within albums I have made, they drag over without a problem.

That is correct - events are basic and time based and photos can not be manually moved within them - albums are logical grouping and photos can be moved manually - that is exactly how it works

  • Organizing photos in an album

I know this must be very simple. I'm using iPhoto '08 and just want to move photos around within one of my event of photo folders. I have done this in the past by just clicking and dragging the photo to where I want to place it....but this is not working. Please advise.

1 - you posted an iPhoto '08 question in the iPhoto 6 forum - I will request that the thread be moved to the correct forums
2 - iPhoto '08 has events, albums and folders - all are different - and using the correct terminology is critical:
-- Events are basic and you can not rearrange photos in events
-- albums are used to organize photos and you can change the order by dragging photos within the album
-- folders are also organization elements and hold albums or other folders
You are mixing them all up - I suspect that you want to create an album and then reorder the photos in that album

Within an Album? Drag and drop.
You can't do this in an Event.
