Organizing Presets

I have heard that Presets, which I have many for Develop, can be organized.  I have tried dragging into new folders in the Preset section but that doesn't seem to work.  i.e.  I created a new Folder in Presets called B&W and then tried dragging presets that I have into that folder.  No such luck.   I am assuming I would need to go back to the place on my HD which holds my Presets and make new folders in there, then, drag and drop.  I would then need to re-import into Lightroom using the new folder structure.
Is there an easier way to do this? Using a PC.
Merrill

Hi Merill,
Don't go to windows operating system level - it should not be necessary but is prone to create errors inside LR if you do not know exactly in advance what you do... *prevent me from what I want...*
You seem to have achieved to successfully create a new folder for develop presets (I do so by clicking on the + right of Presets panel in develop module and then use the dropdown triangle of field Folder for the entry "New Folder...").
Then you indeed can drag and drop existing presets from other folders - observe that the drop is not always possible: as long as you hover axactly over an existing entry the cursor turns into the forbidden-icon, but when you move your mouse in between the text lines of existing entries the cursor turns into a horizontal slim bar to indicate that you can drop there.
If you do this with entries from the folder "Lightroom Presets" a copy will be created upon drop, "copy" as suffix to the original LR preset name.
Please try patiently again to observe these effects - if they really do not work then report it and you should get help for a bug.
Good luck, Cornelia

  • Organizing presets in in 2.0 also applies them

If you drag a preset from one group to another the preset always gets applied, so you can't organize the presets without affecting the current image. From a programming perspective, it appears that the preset is now being applied on the mouse-down event rather than the mouse-up event.
This worked fine in 1.4.1, but seems broken in 2.0. Win XP x64, confirmed on both 32 & 64 bit LR versions.
    Work-around: organize your presets in 1.4.1 :D.
    PS - love the upgrade!

On Mac it appears to be mouse-up, much as I would expect it to be. However, on my Windows box it is mouse down.

  • Adobe ACR - Presets Category

    Hello,
Many of us have many many presets for Adobe ACR located in our Camera Raw Settings folder.
Usually they are sorted in folders to keep them organized.
The problem is, if they are in sub folders within "C:\Users\User Name\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\CameraRaw\Settings\Royi's ACR Presets" they won't show under the Presets tab in ACR.
So we are left with the choice of well organized presets folder or the quick access through the Presets tab (Now we must access using "Load Preset").
    We want both.
Could I offer a suggestion, let us have categories for Presets in the preset tab.
Each sub folder will create a category in the presets folder.
This way we'll have both worlds.
    Thank You.

  • Organizing local adjustment presets

How can I organize my local adjustment presets in folders? The list is getting too long and I'd like to organize it! Thanks!

Use a alphabetic ordering prefix when naming them, e.g.
    001 My First Preset
    002 My Second Preset
    etc.

  • Any way to export with multiple presets at once?

Hi! Is there any way to export with multiple presets at once? I do a lot of product photography, usually clients send me around 5 to 10 pieces to photograph, and from each photo requires to be exported to about 7 different formats and sizes for different uses. I have a preset for each export, but this requires multiple clicks per export, select the preset, the destination folder, etc.....   and at the end I end taking about 1 hour to just export files when if I could just select 1 time a folder of presets and the destination folder just once, then it will take no time to get all oft those exports.
    Thanks!

Some of those other photographers have assistants they can task with doing the drudgery.
I would describe what you're wanting scripted multiple exporting, not multiple export presets, because multiple-exports don't necessarily rely on presets, just initiating an Export and clicking on various things for each one.
I assume you have a preset set for each of the 7 format-size-uses variations, and then most of the time consuming part is setting the Choosing the destination folder that gets mirrored to DropBox?  You can copy/paste most of the path into the Folder address area after clicking Choose.
Without knowing what your master-photo folders and dropbox-mirror folder names and organization are it's hard to know if you've thought of all the shortcuts you might use or if things are organized in the most efficient manner.
If you're on Windows, maybe something like AutoHotKey macros would help with what you're doing.

  • Presets for Logic

    Hi all,
I'm pretty new to logic and I was wondering if there was a good resource to get more presets for it. I mainly use mainstage for live performance in my band and I don't want to spend too much time customizing or learning how to customize logic.
I'm specifically looking for the organ or synth sound used in Walk of Life by Dire Straits and the organs for Fix you by Coldplay.
    Thanks

You do not specify, but I'm guessing that you looked in User>Library>Application Support>Logic and found empty folders.
    Instead, go to HD>Library>Application Support>Logic.

  • WOW, Presets  ... easy to use

I am curious to know what other's thing of this set of presets by Jack Davis? (sorry, if this has already been posted)
I did not find this (someone gave it to me, I am passing it on) ... I am using it and was impressed at how easy to use, understand, and well thought out this set of presets are.
Just looking at the list. and how it is organized made sense to me. And was able to be productive with it "very" quickly (and isn't that what LR is all about ... being more productive, fast)
The nice thing is because of the way it is organized, AND it encourages ME to "build my own" pre-sets easily (that work) .
And for me there was a little side benifit ... by watching the changes in the presets that worked for me ... I learned just a little more about LR ... and how to get the changes I want to do.
(got "schooled" on toning in LR just by playing with these presets)
I am still learning ... but this just made me go up a notch.
fyi: is FREE ... how cool is that!
    http://www.ononesoftware.com/photopresets-wow.php
Hope this helps others (that are just a little lost in LR) and needs that boost to get LR to be productive fast.
    HG

    John,
GREAT Tip on the preset folders ... I am "going" to do that ... NOW!
My list was getting too long and hard to navigate.
You are right I should spend more time learning how to use Develop ... but, there is always a few things to be learn't "quickly" thru old practice of reverse enginering.
Not trying to invent or re-invent the wheel ... just want it to roll quickly ... for now ...
    * I like your idea of applied "child presets" that's one for the suggestion box.
Because it is also, a good way to see, what you are applying. and easier to mix and match (using click and drag (wow, that might be too much fun)
Yes, I have the insidelightroom one's too ...
BUT, what I loved about this one ... "as a SET of pre-sets" it really showed me the "WAY", as far as organizing them, and using them.
imho, the power of that list, the way it was done was not only the naming convention & order it was in ... but also the way it has RESETS right on the list at the top of each section. So, you can stay on the list and reset just a part of the total adjustments.
What the list reveals to me ... is HOW a set of presets can be done so it is MORE user freindly. imho, all Groups of presets s/b organized this way & in a separate Folder (I think this is the first group of pre-sets I have seen done this way)
AND, the way LR should have organized there pre-sets. Starting with aLR- and in there own folder :)
    * It's the little things ....
Ease of use "counts" imho, even for presets ...
note:WinXP does not make things faster, but we buy faster computers for that ease of use.
SCSI is faster, but I don't use it anymore. not even for RAID.
    Just my thoughts HG

  • How to save tool presets as brush presets?

I have some tool presets that would be very useful, but I normally just go to brush presets, which i have organized and which provide greater flexibility. Is there a way to turn "tool" into a "brush"? Going through defining brush presets, forced me to adjust all kind of things, but as tool presets they are already perfect. There has to be a way to do it easier! Hope you can help.

I'll ad a giant AOL 'Me Too' to that Gene.  I don't blame Lynda and Bruce when there is $1.5b on the table, but I think it a sad reflection on our times that a dot.com that has questionable worth to our society, can afford to pay so much money for a genuinely useful service like Lynda.com.  Apparently they started with $20k and have built it up with no outside help, so they are sitting pretty right now.
My concern is that the focus of Lynda.com does not shift even remotely towards business type courses, and away from creative.  BTW  I am absolutely loving my Lynda subscription.  It seems that no matter what the subject, if you ever get stuck on something, there is a world class course to put you straight. As regards Photoshop, I considered myself at least an expert, yet I have been able to find game changing new tips on almost a daily basis.  Or sometimes just a better way of doing things.  It absolutely helps to go into the expert courses with a good working knowledge, because it means you pick up the content straight away, and hopefully remember it.
Somebody was smiling down on me the day I was about to commit $250 for a year's subscription, and literally as I sat down at the computer, there was a ping to tell me a new email had arrived, and it turned out to be offering that same subscription for $150.  I suspect the apparent coincidence was driven by my recent visits to the site, but if that email had arrived ten minutes latter, I'd have been down a $100.  :-)

  • How do I import PPro CS6 presets into PPro CC?

Would appreciate help in moving my PPro CS6 presets to PPro CC. Thanks.

Please read this for the details of how to do the Import
    http://www.lightroomqueen.com/ready-move-aperture-iphoto/
With regards to whether or not you should "import the whole megillah", I am a big believer that you want all of your organizing in one catalog. You do not want some in iPhoto and some in Lightroom. By having everything in one catalog, you eliminate the problem caused by fallible human memory where you don't remember which organizing tool contains a particular set of photos. It also eliminates the problem that if things are in two (or more) organizing tools, there is no way to search for all items that meet a specific metadata search.

  • Sequence and Capture Presets

I've shot and captured 35 hours of footage originally shot in HD (output in standard def 16:9) using Final Cut 5.0. After loading it and spending hours organizing it, I found my Sequence Present is 3:2 - Also the Aspect Ratio is set to NTSC-CCIR 601/DV Anamorphic 16:9 is off. Compressor is DV/DVCPro NTSC. Pixel Ratio is also NTSC-CCRI 601/DV.
Capture Preset is NTSC (3:2) Anamorphic is unchecked. Compressor is DV-NTSC. input is DCR TRV 900. I captured from a Z1U.
Can anyone tell me- aside from being a dumb *** in the first place- how I can redeem my project> ? I need this to be for professional broadcast (standard def, 16:9) - I'm on deadline and want to avoid recapturing. If I DO need to recapture, can retain markings/ subclips?
    Thanks a bunch!

Well there's a couple of things to check.
What settings did you use on the Z1U? (HDV, 1080i, 30fps?)
Did you use the capture preset mentioned in your post to capture the material? (check in the browser or item properties)
If that's the case, you have an offline version of your material and you will have to recapture the whole thing (use the HDV capture preset) or online your final edit (basically only recapturing the material used in the final edit)
I'm not sure how the online process will work in this case as I only have experience with PAL. It could prove to be tricky but someone here in the discussions forum must know if and how it's possible.

  • Use AME watch folders with preset ContentAnalysis

I have to do speech recognition on a number of files. The AME watch folders do exactly what I want - automatically processing files put into a specific folder. But I am unable to select "ContentAnalysis" as my preferred preset, which seems to be the requirement for AME doing speech recognition. Is there any possibility to let the watch folders do speech recognition for me, like AME does if I select "Analyze" in Premiere Pro?

As of June 2010 I no longer maintain this FAQ. I’ve migrated to Lightroom 3, which I use for all my organizing and most of my editing (I still use the Photoshop Elements Editor for more involved editing).  Adobe has clearly decided not to invest sufficient resources for properly maintaining the Photoshop Elements Organizer– see my Amazon review of PSE 8. Lightroom is marketed to professionals and prosumers with tens of thousands of photos who demand adequate organizational capabilities, whereas Photoshop Elements is marketed to consumers, most of whom do not want or use the Organizer.
This page captures my answers to frequent questions about Photoshop Elements 6, 7, and 8 (Windows).  It’s mostly about the Organizer, since I know the Organizer much better than the Editor.
The versions to which each FAQ applies are indicated with the notation [PSE 6, 7, 8]. If I’m not sure whether something applies to a version, it will be indicated with a question mark, e.g. [PSE 7, 8?].

  • Electric organ rhythm section samples?

Does anyone know where I can find samples of those rhythm sections that used to be in electric organs — typically with colored buttons and styles such as Swing, March, Bossa Nova, Waltz, etc. — ?
MacBook Pro, 2.33 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

I have a CD that is at least ten years old. It came from Big Fish Audio, and it's called "B3 & More-Vital Organs".
It's was formatted for samplecell mac (that shows you how old it is), but it has an audio section as well.
Along with the B3, it had a section at the end that was all the various preset grooves you mentioned, at a few different tempos, I believe.
You could check with Big Fish audio to see if that title is still available, or has at least been re-formated.

  • Content Disks - Where Are The Presets?

I have all of the content disks for Logic Pro 8, but I don't want to install everything. It takes too long and takes up too much space, and I don't need all of music beds and whatnot.
I mostly want the keyboard presets - pianos, organs, synths and stuff like that.
Is it possible to install just the presets I mentioned? On which disks are they found?
    Thanks.

    You're welcome.
Basicallyou should install everything called *... instruments* and nothing called *Apple Loops.* Sound effects are, well, sound effects: the +"Boom!" "peeeep," "klang!" "clapclapclapclap!" "rhubarbrhubarbrhubarb?"+ sort of thingies... you decide if you need those.

  • Is there a way to create a renaming preset where the sequence starts at the number "0" zero?

What I am trying to achieve is the following:
Fro example, I am photographing a handbag and I need to rename the file using a barcode and a barcode scanner.
My sequence of images goes like this:
    Image 1: Tag shot
    Image 2: Front
    Image 3: Back
    Image 4: Inside bag
Let's say the barcode once scanned produces a code such as TRE8801AZT16-Z
Right now my current preset is "Custom Text_Image # (1)"
This results with the images being renamed as:
    TagShot: TRE8801AST16-Z_1
    Front: TRE8801AST16-Z_2
    Back: TRE8801AST16-Z_3
    Inside bag: TRE8801AST16-Z_4
What I need is the sequence to start at zero so the tag shot is _0 and my images are named like this:
    TagShot: TRE8801AST16-Z_0
    Front: TRE8801AST16-Z_1
    Back: TRE8801AST16-Z_2
    Inside bag: TRE8801AST16-Z_3
Is this possible? If yes, how?
    Thanks for the help
    Cody

About as close as you can get is to right-click on a single clip and Make Multiclip Sequence. Hit OK to make an sequence out of the single clip. Open the sequence made and delete the multiclip and edit the clip you want back into the sequence.

  • How to add folder/project name to a File Naming preset

Here's a tip to automatically add the name of the Project or its parent Folder to the filename during Import or Batch Change.
I always used a custom field for adding my client's name to the filename upon Import or Batch Changing versions or masters. But often I would forget to change the custom name, and since it's auto-populated with the previous entry, I'd end up with a bunch of files with the wrong client's name on them. That looks kind of bad. So once I saw with Aperture 3 you can add the Project name or Folder name when relocating referenced files to the new folder structure, I was excited to be able to do the same for the filenames at import. Well, no such luck. They're not an option when you create a custom File Naming preset.
However, I recently decided to poke around inside some plist files, and found a workaround. I discovered the format string for Folder Name is %F and Project Name is %P. The trick is getting the code into the Format Field where you create the preset.
Create a new File Naming preset by choosing "edit" from the Version Name menu during Import or Batch Change. Drag everything you want in the name into the Format field, and enter %F or %P where you want the Folder or Project name. The tricky part is that you can't insert it between two existing criteria. It only works at the very end. After you have it in place, you can drag the criteria around to get it in the order you want.
The alternative method is to insert the code directly into the plist. PLEASE, always make sure you're working with a copy and have a good backup when you're poking around in such things. If you have trouble getting the code to take from within Aperture, you can try this. Same as above, create a new preset, but this time, enter an F or P where you want the Folder or Project name. Give it a unique preset name and save it. Then Quit Aperture. Navigate to ~/Library/Application Support/Aperture/FileNamingPresets.plist, and make a copy of the file, then open with Property List Editor. Dropdown the plist and then dropdown the item you want to edit. You should recognize it by the preset name. Now the easy part. Click in the FormatString field and insert the % character before the F or P you entered in the Format field. Save and you're done.
I discovered later that while the Folder and Project name works just fine during import, for some reason only the Project name works during Batch Change. The Folder name simply creates a "-" in the filename.
In case this is seen as a hack and gets deleted, I'm also submitting it to http://www.macosxhints.com/ and I suspect if anyone from MacCreate sees it, they'll steal it too, as they're known to do.

I do not think there is an out of the box way to do this.
The immediate solution that comes to mind is using a workflow, that runs everytime  a document is uploaded/item created, which may be too much for your scenario.
    Cheers,
