Organzing brushes in CS3

Hello,
I'm sure this is a topic that has been hashed and rehashed in various areas but I just wanted to see what the current thoughts were.
SO I have a brush preset folder with a large mix of brushes inside of it.  Is there an easy way to organize these into seperate preset files for shading, detail, textures, etc?
Has there been any thought to having the ability to open several brush presets into seperate windows (similar to Illustrator's brushes) and having the ability to drag and drop brushes between sets so that you can organize and clean-up for greater efficiency?
How is CS4 in this regard?  Is it worth upgrading at this point?
Thanks for any input!

I suppose You could collect the appropriate brushes into abr-files with Preset Manager and/or create Actions or Scripts to load the various ones and assign Shortcuts to those.
CS4 still provides only one Brushes-Panel.
But – apart from many other improvements that make the move to CS4 easily worthwhile in my opinion – the ability to in- and decrease Brush-size and -sharpness by click-dragging might be a plus for You.

  • How to make a pressure sensitive brush in CS3?

    Hi!
Is there someone out there who knows how to make a brush similar to this? I've been trying to figure it out for several hours now, but nothing works!
    Daniel

Sorry but you aren't going to get something that looks like that from a pressure sensitive brush in Illustrator.
The colors and groupings of blocks are too random to be a repeating pattern (a simple one, anyway) and the order is too consistent to be something like a scatter brush. That said, you *can* do this with a brush but it won't be pressure sensitive and it will require a degree of setup.
Start by building a row of blocks. Mine is a simple pattern with a few pieces removed and not terribly interesting looking but hopefully it'll give you the idea of what I mean:
Group everything and then go up to Effect> 3D> Rotate
Set your X, Y, And Perspective parameters to taste. Keep the Z axes (the blue one) at zero:
Go to Object> Expand Appearance You'll notice that Illustrator has put a clipping mask around your squares (transparent rectangle) Delete it.
Take everything you have and drag it over to the brush panel and make a new Art Brush:
Now you can select that brush and paint with it though you'll get better results by stroking a path you've drawn with the pen tool:
A couple of things to keep in mind:
You'll need to consider your ultimate length when creating the brush. Longer or more wavy lines will require more squares. My squares look a little skewed because I didn't bother to make my pattern very long. A longer row will improve the look of this but hopefully my example is enough to give you the idea.
For generating the square colors, you might want to try the random fills script available from James talmage's page and then use live color to tint everything for you.

  • Turning off angle jitter for dual brush in CS3

I'm trying to create a brush with the dual brush feature in Photoshop, but I can't get the result I'm looking for since Photoshop seems to force angle jitter for the 'secondary' brush chosen under dual brush. I can turn it on or off for the 'base' brush I choose, but there are no options for angle control under dual brush. Is there any way to get dual brush to not mess with the angle of the brush chosen, or is it simply hard coded to randomize the angle?
(Basically I'm looking to create a brush with a bristle pattern that only shows up at low brush pressure settings, but as I can't align the bristle stamp to the base brush stamp since it gets jittered, I can't seem to do this.)
    Any tips appreciated.

Oh, and just to be clear - this is a request for help/solutions

  • Cannot load brushes to CS5

I caanot get brushes moved from CS3 to my new CS5. I copy / pated them to CS5 Presets/Brushes folder but they do not show up in CS5 - anywhere. Just to test the problem I downloaded  a new Brush  (abr), shown as being for CS5, but copy, drag, what ever, it will not show up in CS5 drop list either either. I am totally lost. Can anyone help me.

Yes, that was where I started. After trying several %$@ methods I did find that I could move them, one at a time, by first saving each set in CS3 via the Brush Preset drop down panel / Save Brushes, and then Save to the CS5 Presets/Brushes. I cannot do this through CS5 since CS5 doesn’t see them unless previously saved (I previously had created some larger brush sets) in CS3.
I did find if a downloaded brush was clearly designated CS5 that I could copy/paste it to CS5 Preset/Brushes. I’m not sure why that did not wok before ?
Perhaps the bulk  of my brushes in CS3 were created in Photoshop versions that are not directly compatible with CS5 ?
I have a lot of brushes so this will be tedious but I at least found a way.
There has to be a better way but I can’t find it.

  • Rotating Square Brushes

When using the brush tool as a square, I frequently need to rotate it so that it can be much more effective in architectural shots, under peaked roofs, gables etc. It would also be great if the shape could be altered from a square to some other parallelogram to again, fit nicely inside similar shapes.
Is there a way to at least, rotate the brush in CS3 and 4?
While I am at it, how in blazes does one copy, cut and delete items in this forum? I highlight, right click and get insert asnd align selections. Also, I pick a type face and get Arial when I type.

  • Droste Effect Crashes PS CS4.

I have installed the Pixel Bender plug-in.  It appears in the list of Filters.  I installed the Droste Effect and it appears in the Gallery.
With a photo displayed and selected, all of the default items in the Pixel Bender gallery work as advertized.
However, the Droste Effect causes an error message saying "The operation cannot be completed" and Photoshop CS4/64 running on Windows 7 crashes and has to be closed.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

Hmm, at least 3 of the brushes in the file are corrupt.
The first one is corrupt in a bizarre way that we didn't expect. I'm adding some extra error checking for that case now,
The next 2 corrupt brushes are just corrupt bitmap data and just give an error (not compatible, and wrong version).
Unfortunately, I'm not sure I can recover any of them.
If you have those brushes in CS3, I suggest saving a couple copies to new locations and seeing which ones load correctly in CS4. I'm not sure how the file was corrupted - it could be disk errors, a virus, etc. so there are no guarantees.

  • Strange behavior of brush in Photoshop 10.0.1 CS3 Extended

I've all of a sudden encountered a problem with the brushes in Photoshop CS3. When I want to paint with a brush I click the mouse to start laying down paint, but all I get is a spot at that point, nothing happens as I drag the mouse until I release the mouse button- then a path is made from where I first clicked the mouse to where I released the button. How do I get to the point where I can just lay down paint normally with the brush?
    Dick Skover

I'm running a 2.16 GHz Intel Core Duo Mac,2 GB SDRAM, and OS X 10.4.11.
This first started happening this morning- I've never had a problem like this before. After I sent the email, I went back to the application and the brush was working fine again. About an hour later I went back again and I had the same problem. I then thought it might be my mouse- I am using the mouse that comes with the Wacom tablet. At that point I tried my logitech mouse and the problem disappeared- went back to my Wacom mouse and the problem was gone for it also. Any idea what's happening?

  • Photoshop cs3 and cs4 brush lag /snow leopard 10.6.6

Having occasional brush lag using these apps. Not due to wacom, does same with mouse. Discussions going on at adobe forums. I have ATI 5770 in mac pro 2.8 quad. Don't want to update to 10.6.7 due to font/pdf issues. Spoke to apple person, who couldn't say if the new update had specific fixes for graphics drivers. Anyone having same problems?

?Did you have a PowerMac before, and did you use the Migration Assistant?
How about some normal good system maintenance?
CS3 on a Mac Pro running SL may or may not work the best on mid-2010 Mac Pro.
Your mac by default was set to boot into 64-bit kernel mode. I assume you switched to 32-bit.
How about RAM and storage setup? disabled Spotlight and moved primary scratch to non-system drive?
To elimiate any confusion, change the "PowerMac" to what you have, a Mid-2010.

  • Liquify brush size increment sluggish with CS3, Intuos 3/window 7

    Hi
I have encountered a strange problem with liquify filter using Intuos 3 tablet pen after installing CS3 on my new Window 7 machine.
I always assign the shortcut keystrokes [ and ] to the pen buttons for increaseing/decreaseing the brush size. In my old Vista computer, everything was all good, the brush size changes continously and quickly when i press the buttons. But now the brush size only changes an increment by 1 pixel (should be 10 pixels?) by clicking it once and it no longer increases or decreases the brush size continously by holding the button.
I thought it was Wacom drivers problems but i un-installed and re-installed their latest and oldest drivers and the problem remains. I wonder if it is CS3 glitch with Window 7? I have installed all Adobe updates for CS3. I would be very grateful to any advice.

It is Intuos driver problem. I downloaded the old Vista tablet driver to run on the Window 7 and problem  solved.

  • PhotoShop Cs5 to Cs3 Brush issue

    Hello.
Previously I was using PhotoShop CS5 for my personal art design, however i had to switch back to CS3 for various reasons. Having devoted a lot of time and care into my CS5, I saved up my
swatches, styles, brushes, etc..... so I wouldn't lose all my work. I spaced, however, and saved the CS5 brushes with the rest of my generic brushes in the process of a mass save. I no longer have access to CS5, and when I attempt to load the .abr into my CS3, it gives an error.
"Could not load the brushes "D:\etc\etc\etc\Brush Set 1.abr" because the file is not compatible with this version of photoshop."
Is there anyway to get in there and delete those specific brushes, recover the ones I'm after......or.....anything?
    Thanks

Call Customer Service. You will need Photoshop CS3 media as a start as Adobe no longer provides media for older versions.

  • Photoshop CS3 brush lag

I have just reinstalled  Xp home  OS system in addition to
reinstalling Photoshop CS3 The brush tool seems to be lagging when doing any kind of work.Especially when
I am using masks and painting in with the brush for different levels of exposures on photos. It is not smooth and it is very hard to get it blended correctly with this problem  I have never had this
problem before. I am wondering if I need to set something or change a setting. Thank you in advance for input on this,

Thank you for responding to my question on the adobe forum, I was having the problem
before I did the new install. Before I installed the new os I  reinstalled Photoshop to see if
that would correct the problem. It did not work and I was having other problems with the computer so I
decided to reinstall the operating system and everything including all of the drivers ect.
At this point I was thinking that it was Photoshop problem and I wanted to see if anyone on the forum had any advice.
    Thanks again for you help

  • In CS3 my brushes fail occasionally

I use Adobe CS3 on my iMac running leopard 10.5 . Quite often when I open a CR2 Raw file into the editor I have an issue which is frustrating me. I attempt to use one of the brush tools such as the blur, paint, heal, clone etc. and when I depress the mouse button to begin dragging over the area I want to modify the brush only applies the effect to the area where the brush first touches. I can still move the brush cursor to the areas I want to modify but it has no effect there at all. I have found if I save the image as a tif or jpg and then restart Adobe and reopen the file, then the brushes work properly. Is this a known issue to some of you ?

I only ever have one image open at a time . It does not happen with every image I open either. It seems to be a sporadic kind of thing at this point. Keep in mind that the image has just been opened from ACR into the Editor and has not yet been saved as a .tif or .jpg or anything else at that point. So when the problem occurs I have to save the image as something, usually I save it as a .tif and then I restart Adobe CS3. I seem to recall that I tried just saving the image and beginning to work on it and it did not work until I restarted Adobe. Next time this occurs I will verify this .
I do not know what you mean about the brush having no shape or dynamic. If it is the clone tool I am having the issue with I simply choose a brush size.

  • Using brushes in .rar format (7.x version) in cs3

I found just the brushes I was looking for in the exchange tonight but they are for photoshop version 7.x. I cannot get my photoshop cs3 product to recognize them. If anyone knows how to make this work, I would really appreciate it. Really. Thank you.
