Orientation is frozen.

My screen is locked in landscape in spite of the settings. How do I free it up? IPad mini.

Do you see a little padlock with a circle around it? That's the rotation lock and it can be accidentally activated. There's a little switch right above the volume rocker that serves as all mute or rotation lock. You can look there first.
Some apps only work in one orientation or the other, so if it's just a singular app that doesn't rotate, that may be just how the app is coded.
Another common thing to try is to reset your iPad. Hold down the sleep and home keys until you see the silver apple. Let it reboot and see if that clears things up.

• Orientation frozen - help!

My iPad orientation is frozen in the portrait mode. Yes, I have the Portrait Orientation unlocked (and, yes, I know that with the upgrade the lock has now been moved to the new dock at the bottom of the screen).
Any suggestions?

• MacBook Pro Hard Disk Crashed after Frozen Screen

Hi
Very unpleasant experience with my first MacBook. My MacBook Pro Book 13'' (late 2010 model) screen froze on start up. Realised that the battery was low and plugged the power adapter in, and let the frozen screen continue hoping for it to start in a while, only to realise that the entire laptop heated up significantly. I switchd the laptop off and let it simply recharge.
No luck on restarting after laptop was fully charged despite several attempts and following all instructions on Apple website, including SMC reset. I took the laptop down to the store and the Genius Bar team informed me that the hard disk had corrupted and they could not retrieve any data.
Wondering if this is a common problem, as I have never had a hard disk failure before and specially surprising as it is relatively new laptop (<1 year) old ? Seems like a technical fault with the laptop prima facie. Some data was not backed up recently, and now I need to look for a recovery specialist, with costs to bear despite Apple Care.
Any suggestions on recovery specialists in London who do not charge a fortune ?
Thank a Lot !

• Folio frozen online?

Hey,
I have 10 folios online currently. But on iPAD it shows another 11th folio, which I created before, and then I deleted it. Although I can not download it (there is no preview picture for it either).
When I login into DPS oganizer, I see only my 10 folios. What I am guessing is that 1 folio is frozen somewhere in the cloud, and it is just the name, there is no content in it. ( I checked, it is not downloaded on iPAD, when I sign out from content viewer, the extra folio disappears, when I log back in, it is available for download, but it can't be downloaded, it shows progress bar and then it resets back and the FREE button is available again)
Anyone experienced this and is there a way to solve this?
Basically, it is not much of a deal, it is just annoying to have the 11th "ghost" folio.
Thank you.

I wrote earlier here that I had called tech support but the person I was talking to could not offer any solution and advised me to post a message on this forum. There's no point in calling them again if they advise me to look for support here. Apparently, they are not aware of the "ghost folio" problem and don't know how to deal with it.
As for the details of how it happened, as I wrote earlier, I published a folio with some missing article titles. The other details of the foilio are:
viewer version: 26
target device: Apple Ipad
orientation: Portrait Only Folio
default format: PDF
I got around the problem by moving my folios to a different account. Fortunately, the "ghost folio" problem has not occurred there yet.
If you have any questions on this case I will gladly provide any info.

• Iphone 5 camera is not working soon after I downloaded ios7. Camera is frozen and shows a blur picture.

Hi Apple,
Can you tell me if there's a reason for my camera not working on my iphone 5.
Soon after downloading ios7 , the camera's front picture has frozen and shows
blurred picture . The app itself is frozen also , can't bring up photos from photo album .
Also I reset the phone and still the camera is not working .
please advise me as what to do next .
Regards.
Reggie.

Hi Patoraffo,
I understand that you are having issues with the Camera app functioning, I found the following information that may provide a resolution:
iPhone: Hardware troubleshooting
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2802
Camera is not functioning
- If the screen shows a closed lens or black image, force quit the Camera app.
- If you do not see the Camera app on the Home screen, try searching for it in Spotlight. If the camera does not show up in the search, check to make sure that Restrictions are not turned on by tapping Settings > General > Restrictions.
- Ensure the camera lens is clean and free from any obstructions. Use a microfiber polishing cloth to clean the lens.
- Third-party cases can interfere with the autofocus/exposure feature and the flash (iPhone 4 only); try removing the case if you have image-quality issues with photos.
- Try turning iPhone off and then back on.
- Tap to focus the camera on the subject. The image may pulse or briefly go in and out of focus as it adjusts.
- Try to remain steady while focusing:
- Still images: Remain steady while taking the picture. If you move too far in any direction, the camera automatically refocuses to the center. Note: If you take a picture with iPhone turned sideways, it is automatically saved in landscape orientation.
- Video: Adjust focus before you begin recording. After recording begins, you cannot readjust focus until you stop recording. Exiting the Camera application while recording will stop recording and will save the video to the Camera Roll. Note: Video-recording features are not available on original iPhone or iPhone 3G.
- If your iPhone has a front and rear camera, try switching between them to verify if the issue persists on both.
Thanks,
Matt M.

• Vista countdown freeze on boot screen - countdown frozen

Sometimes when Vista boots, the boot managerscreen shows teh countdown timer frozen at 2 or 4 seconds.
\the number is still displayed but does not count down.
If I hit enter to boot vista it will start loading then go to a blank screen.
Sometimes it counts down fine and then boots ok with no apparent problems

Screen glitches and system crashes that still persist even while booted from the Install Disk points very strongly toward a hardware problem, even if AHT can't find it. Things to consider:
AHT asks that you disconnect non-essential pheriphals to run the test, & it doesn't test them. But you can just by removing them temporarily. (Note the the installer disk will boot the system even if no hard drive is installed.) Extend this to everything that can be removed without making the Mac Pro non-functional, including anything non-essential in its PCI slots.
Even though third party RAM is more suspect than Apple-supplied RAM, the latter can go bad as well. Try every combination of the minimum number of modules needed to run the OS on your Mac Pro to see what happens. You can also try extended RAM testing with Rember. You may also find the "Press" links at the Rember web site useful for more info about this, for example Troubleshooting Tools: Memtest and Remberfrom MacFixIt.
Physical inspection of the hardware sometimes also helps: are all cables & connectors (both internal & external) tight & in good condition? All covers in place & properly oriented? Any foreign objects lodged anywhere in the case, especially small bits of metal or other conductive substances? Mac Pro's are very cleanly designed inside as well as out, but it is still possible that the problem is caused by something like this.

• TS3274 My screen appears to be frozen I cannot turn it to portrait can anyone help please????

My screen appears to be frozen in as much as I cannot turn to portrait screen, anyone help ????

If you see a lock icon in the upper right corner of the screen - then the screen orientation is locked.
Try the side switch above the volume rocker first and see if that unlocks the screen. If that doesn't do it, swipe up from the bottom to get to the control center. The lock icon will be in the row at the top on the right
If the screen is unlocked but still will not rotate, reset the iPad.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the button

• Can days in iCal freeze? A whole week of my Ical is wiped/frozen

There is a day in my iCal that is completely frozen. I was recently doing some planning and viewing some of my past events and I noticed that in 'week view' a whole week of events was missing. That week wasn't editible either- I can't add events to it or do any editing at all (even though there's nothing to edit because it's completely wiped.
What's more weird is that when I went in to "day view" for this week that had seemed to have been wiped, every day had the days events showing and they were editable except for one single day- a Wednesday. Again, for that day I can't add or edit anything and it's blank, even though there used to be events in it. I still have those events in my Iphone
When I go back into week view for this week, I can't see any events for the whole week, even though they show up in the day view for all of the days but that one.
Has anyone else had this problem? I have all the events for these days in my Iphone still but syncing doesn't seem to be helping. This all is driving me crazy. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Greetings,
Might just be a bad cache / preference file.
Troubleshooting:
1.) Backup all your data:
Backup your iPhone: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
Backup your computer Addressbook: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=AddressBook/4.0/en/ad961.html
Backup your computer iCal: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2966
2.) Remove the following to the trash and restart your computer:
Home > Library > Caches > com.apple.ical and / or "ical"
Home > Library > Calendars > Calendar Cache, Cache, Cache 1, 2, 3, etc. (Do not remove Sync Cache or Theme Cache)
Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.ical (There may be more than one of these. Remove them all.)
__NOTE: Removing these files will remove any shared (CalDAV) calendars you may have access to. You will have to re-add those calendars to iCal > Preferences > Accounts.
Once the computer is back up and running open iCal and test.
Hope that helps!

• Ipod 2nd gen frozen during update and will no longer sync

So I was updating my ipod software and then an error message popped up. Now my ipod is frozen with the apple logo and an empty bar. Itunes no longer recognizes it either. I don't know what to do...

I would try putting it in recovery mode. See:

• Frozen ipod that is no longer recognized by computer

Help! My I-pod nano is frozen. It has been frozen before, so I did what Apple.com said to do. It is still frozen! So I decided to plug it in to the computer to charge .. and the I-pod is no longer recognized by my computer!
I've tried a million times to unfreeze it, doing what Apple said, but nothing is working! And why is Itunes not recognizing my I-pod?

Hi caitt,
I don't know if "what Apple said to do" means that you tried the 5 R's, but that's a good start:
The 5 R's
From there, try this:
iPod missing in "My Computer" or in iTunes on Windows
And this...
iPod won't turn on
Good luck,

• Photos synching across to ATV in the wrong orientation

The orientation of all of my photos are corrected and on my Powerbook. However, once synched to ATV and viewed in Slideshow, some of the photos appear in the wrong orientation (i.e. sideways on). There doesn't appear to be any ATV setting to adjust orientation. Is anyonbe else experiencing this and has anyone got any suggestions or better still, a solution?

Hi, I have already reported this problem as a bug using Apple's bug/enhancement request website.
I started experiancing this problem in 2.4 and thru 3.0 and now 3.0.1.
The photos show correctly as thumbnails as well as when displayed as the screen saver when listening to music.
They only display incorrectly when viewed as a slideshow so it is clearly a AppleTV software problem.
I certainly look forward to it being fixed as it makes the Apple not suitable to show pics to friends and families.
Thanks, Paul

• Domain Object and Service oriented pattern

We have J2EE based application with following components, we are facing some issues with existing system.
Current System : We have J2EE based application. The following is the flow.
Client Layer [including JSP, Struts ] action classes  Delegates  Session faade [Session bean]  DAO EJBDAO  EJB. We use CMP, xDoclets , JBOSS.
1. Our Domain objects are heavy. I know they are suppose to be coarse objects but they take more time in loading. Also, we noticed one thing that lot of methods are called during Domain Object creation process and it takes lot of time in loading. Actually, we dont really know what is happening as we are using CMPs.
Question :
- Any input on what can be done to avoid Domain object excessive loading time.
- Anyone can share there experiences with Domain objects. Are you facing issues related with performance.
- We dont use DTO, we pass domain objects between. Do you see any problem in doing that.
2. Currently, our system was used by one single front end or lets say we have only one client but soon we will have more clients using it.
Question :
- What should be our design approach. How can we make our system more like service oriented. If the two clients demand different business logic then how it will be handled. Business logic common to all the clients will be handled by which layer and business logic specific to client will be handles by which layer.
- Please suggest based on our existing infrastructure. We dont want to use SOAP or cannot make drastic changes to our flow.
We have domain and services in the same package and we are doing the refactoring of code, your inputs will be valuable.
Thanks
Sandipan

What type of logger do you use and what is the loger-level during production?
If it is log4j set the logger to level INFO or WARN.
This might sound trivia but can make a difference between 20seconds and 500 ms.

• I was editing photos and it was getting stuck or frozen and working really slow, so I attempting to close aperture and reopen it but it won't quit aperture and now it won't open up to my photos either. Any ideas?

I was editing photos and it was getting stuck or frozen and working very slowly. I attempted to restart the computer but it would not allow me to quit aperture. Now aperture appears in my toolbar but will not open up so I can work on any photos. Any ideas?

Did you try opening from the Applications folder?
Depending on how far that gets you, I would also take a look at the Troubleshooting Basics.
