Orientation is never right.

I shoot with a Nikon D80. I really like iPhoto BUT.....
Big Problem.
The Orientations look right when viewed at a certain enlargement (when the photos are small) As soon as i begin zooming in to look at a specific photo iPhoto will rotate the images horizontally.
It is very odd, I try to compensate but its like the program just doens't know the orientation. If I double click and image and view it orientation is right. It really slows down the program and is very annoying to preview and edit photos.
any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.
Steve

It sounds like your thumbnails are a little messed up. When you view your photos in iPhoto, its actually displaying thumbnail images it creates when you import or edit the photos. It keeps different size thumbnails for the various zoom levels used to view the photos. I suppose it does this because its much faster to display the thumbnails that the fullsize photo files scaled down.
The problem you probably see is some of your thumbnails didn't get properly updated when the photo was rotated. So when you view those thumbnails, things look wrong. The only way to fix this is to rebuild your thumbnails.
To rebuild thumbnails, quit iPhoto if its running. Start iPhoto while holding down the command and option keys on the keyboard. A "Rebuild Photo Library" dialog box will open. First try the first option to rebuild the photos' small thumbnails. If this works you're done. If it doesn't, you'll need to try the second option after restarting iPhoto again with command and option keys held down. This option can take a long time depending on how many photos you have which is why you may not want to select it the first time.

  • After exporting my pictures from lightroom 3 and take them to photo lab to print pictures are never right size. example 4x6 chops off some of pictures. Help

    How can I fix when exporting my pictures and never are right size when take to photo lab

    You need to crop them before you export them and take them to a print shop.
    4x6 is a standard 3/2 ratio, 2 x 3 = 6 and 2 x 2 = 4. 90% of cameras on the market use that ratio as a sensor size. There are also 4/3, 16/9 and 1/1 ratio cameras. Which camera do you use, make and model?
    More than likely the camera you are using is either a 4/3 or you have it set to take image in either the 4/3 or 16/9 ratio. If you ask the photo lab to print them as they are, No Cropping, you will get the whole image with a larger white boarder either on the top/bottom or sides.
    You can crop them to a specific ratio in LR so they fit better on 4x6 paper and contain the image parts you most like.
    It really has nothing to do with exporting and or exporting setting. It does have to do with the size, ratio, of the image you are exporting and taking to the print place.

  • HT201363 My account is asking for my security questions, but the answer to one is never right. Also, I can't receive reset information because the emergency email ends with .con, a mistake I missed when creating my account. Please help me I'm getting very

    Please help, my account will be locked. The safety email is s*****@gmail.con. It ends with .con. IT ENDS WITH .con. Since the last time you people didn't take that into account I decided to make it very obvious. Also, I can't change the email because I have to answer the security questions. Which I can't do because out of 4 choices, none are correct, and I can't get a reset email because the email doesn't exist and will never exist. I'm getting irritated because I also can't get proper support, mostly because I connot call, and the support I received didn't solve my problem because they didn't bother to read the whole problem. This is ruining my Apple experience, please help, or help me find someone who can.

    The other option is the ExpressLane at https://expresslane.apple.com and then iTunes, iTunes Store, Password and Security Questions, Forgotten Security Questions and then you have choices for making contact but those are still limited to calls or rescue email.  So this comes back to the same problem if you cannot call or receive an email.

  • Kerning around 1 is NEVER right!

    Using InDesign CS6:
    This has been going on for YEARS... Using the best, most traditional fonts (and as a designer I have thousands), when there's a "1" in a number (see below) and especially when that number appears in large type (like a header), or even on a business card — I find myself CONSTANTLY correcting the kerning before and after that "1"....  I'm wondering, how come?... And is there a script that can correct this globally?
    Thanks.

    So I tried your idea using \d+ and only these 2 font lines showed to be affected and moved, Arno Pro and, again, Trajan Pro (maybe that's why they're called "Pro"?...), and actually EVERYTHING moved and the spaces became more equal VISUALLY.
    Wasn't that what you really wanted? Proper kerning for ALL pairs of numbers. Fixing only the 1 still leaves minor errors in spacing with the other numbers, it's just less noticeable with wider glyphs.
    I think I'm gonna give up on this.... If an OT font like Helvetica doesn't have proportional figures (so it seems), I don't see much hope to go thru a global fix, I'll have to manually take care of that one 1....
    Not all Pro fonts have proportional figures...
    As I said earlier, you can create GREP styles that will adjust the tracking for a character before a 1, and for the 1 before another character, so that it will be automatic, but it probably will take a bit of trial and error to find the correct amounts of tracking to apply, and it's unlikely a single value will work for all cases. I was asked to fix this very same problem for a set of serial numbers last week that used a font with terrible kerning, even in the alphabetic characters and of course no proportional figures. I ended up with, I believe, 7 different GREP styles to handle the limited cases in that file. You might need more or less, depending on if numbers mix with alphabetical glyphs.

  • Component orientation under Windows XP

    Hey guys
    I've been having a couple of strange problems popping up here and there.
    The program I maintain is oriented to the right (for the Hebrew language), so I often use the ComponentOrientation class to align different gui components to the right.
    I have been finding out though, that in some components (not all components. I couldn't find any common ties between the different cases), when the user is using the windows xp look and feel, and not the "classic" windows look and feel, the component orientation changes to the default (left). And it seemes as if it happens in complete randomality with progress bars, labels, table headers, etc.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?
    thanks

    While I never used linux, I highly doubt this. A 99.99999999573% doubt, to be exact.
    you can't run a windows application on a mac or on old versions of windows - it's quite simply a completely different system. Plus, I'm not even sure linux has EXE files.
    I think you can use a windows emulator to run these files, but I doubt this will work well if you have hardware, and will probably even be slower than windows(due to the emulation).
    All that said, you should be able write VIs in LV windows and then open them in LV linux and build the application, assuming they don't have windows dependant code. Also, what do you mean by real-time? If you're doing real real-time-absolutly-can't-fail stuff, a PC won't be the right thiing anyway. If a machine has window without a lot of junk in it, it's stable. We have used this kind of setup with windows XP and it is stable. I think your real question should be "has anyone done benchmarks on my kind of LV applications in windows vs. linux". Hope this helps.

  • Page orientation when combining multiple postscript files to a pdf file

    Hi
    I'm having problems with the orientation of my pages when I generate pdf's from multiple postscript files.
    I have 3 postscript files that need to be merged into 1 pdf, and they contain a mixture of portrait and landscape pages.
    To create the pdf, I use the following code (because i have lots and lots of pdf files to produce)...
    /prun { /mysave save def
         dup = flush
         RunFile
         clear cleardictstack
         mysave restore
    } def
    (D:/example/fileA.ps) prun
    (D:/example/fileB.ps) prun
    (D:/example/fileC.ps) prun
    ... however, when I run the above code (by saving the text file into the /in directory of a watched folder), whilst I get a pdf, the page orientation isn't right.  For some reason, the first few pages are oriented correctly, then after about page 7 everything is portrait no matter what.
    The funny thing is, when I simply double-click on one of the postscript files (eg. fileA.ps), distiller changes it to pdf and the orientation is perfect for each file separately (fileA, fileB, fileC).  Even when I run the above code for just one ps file it works.  But as soon as I put all 3 sub-files together it doesn't orient properly.
    I've tried activating and de-activating auto-rotate in the PDF settings, as well as the DSC options in the Advanced tab, and whilst these changes do affect the pdf I get when I simply double-click a certain postscript file, it seems to have no effect when I try to combine the 3 files with the code above.  I still end up with the first few pages oriented correctly, then after about page 7 everything is portrait.
    Hope someone can help.
    Danny

    Ok i successfully generated my PDF files.
    Now I'm having difficulties merging them. I use a DDX file named LiveCycleInput.ddx
    What I do (everything in LiveCycle Workbench):
    1) FileReader to open the .ddx file as a document (successfully)
    2) Store the read document in a process variable (successfully)
    3) Assembler.invokeDDX with following arguments:
    Document DDX = process variable (read in 2)
    OutputResult = "AssemblerResult" processVariable which has type AssemblerResult as specified by the documentation
    Errorlog
    Everytime I run the process I get the following stacktrace in my server's logfile:
    ... 119 more
    Caused by: com.adobe.internal.pdfm.CollateralNotFoundException: DDXM_S14017: A <PDF> source document is required, but no documents were found for {PDF source="testFileDoc.doc.pdf" baseDocument="true"}.

    at com.adobe.internal.ddxm.blueprint.pdf.SourceSegment.addDocumentsForAssembly(SourceSegment .java:91)
    ... 125 more
    The .ddx file is stored in the same path as my generated .pdf files are stored.
    Content of my DDX file (full copy paste)
    <DDX xmlns="http://ns.adobe.com/DDX/1.0/">
    <PDF result="testFileMerged.pdf">
      <PDF source="testFileDoc.doc.pdf"/>
      <PDF source="testFileJpg.jpg.pdf"/>
      <PDF source="testFileOdt.odt.pdf"/>
    </PDF>
    </DDX>
    Note that the DDX file is read from a network drive(!!) the source PDF files are in the same folder as the ddx file (hence no further path-links).
    Adding network paths to the source & result pdfs does not change a thing.
    All PDF Files apart from the result pdf fiile are present in that same folder
    I consulted the DDX reference multiple times and this is the simplest ddx that should work ... but it doesnt.
    Can anyone help me?

  • Camera Orientation issue in landscape mode application

    Hello Team,
    I have developed one application and it is totally in landscape mode. I have one problem with opening camera in landscape mode. I have given only one orientation support "Landscape-Right" in .plist file . So that when i click Record button in my application at that time application crash and it gives me an error
    'Supported orientations has no common orientation with the application, and shouldAutorotate is returning YES'
    I have also read that iPhone support only Portrait mode for opening camera . In my application i have forcefully changed it to landscape using custom overlayview.
    Anyone have any idea regardig this?

    Please ignore, I have finally found the problem.
    I was initializing the UIView in my ViewController with the CGRect defined when in Portrait (bounds). So when I turned the device to go into landscape it was still using a portrait frame.
    I'm now initializing the UIView with: CGRect appFrameLandscape = CGRectMake(0, 0, 480, 320);

  • Why doesn't my apple TV 2 see my new photo albums right away?

    When I create a new photo album to iPhoto, I can't figure out how to get it to show up on Apple TV right away.  It eventually does, but never right away, sometimes it takes days...  The same happens with new events when I import new photos into iPhoto.  Homesharing is ON, and iPhoto preferences is set to 'share entire library'.

    iTunes/AppleTV's seem unpredictable about how they update content availability.
    I added some Amazon MP3s to itunes last night but they failed to appear on my AppleTV1, even after a restart, until I restarted iTunes.
    I think that in reality AppleTV just isn't mad aware that new things have been added to itunes/iPhoto as oftem/quickly as you'd like.
    Usually restarting iTunes and AppleTV sorts it.

  • Envelope orientation issues

    I cannot create an envelope that I simply retrieve from a file, hit print and get our copier (Toshiba e-studio) to accept. I have to fiddle with the orientation.
    The problem is that I'm using a bypass tray that tests for the correct paper and wants something 4.12" wide (#10 envelope, short side fed).
    I create an envelope using a custom size (called envelope) of 4.12 x 9.5" and then I change the orientation to the right side choice (under Page setup) and hit okay.. Now I print and everything works..
    But these settings are not saved with the document, so I always need to recheck these everytime I use the envelope document. If I forget, I need to go to copier and delete the job.
    I could check the "reverse orientation" box on the printer dialog box, save it as a new setting, but new settings don't save this option..
    I'm setting this up for some office staff so it needs to be pretty simple..
    My thoughts are that Pages is weak in the area of saving this type of info and I might have to purchase custom envelope software.

    You think right.
    The problem with Pages not retaining print setup in templates has vexed users here for some time.
    Personally I'd use *Address Book* to print the envelopes, it is quite sophisticated.
    Check out the many features in Address Book's Print dialogue box:
    *Over-printing Pages with Address Book data* > *Format inside Address Book's print dialogue*

  • Syncing photos with correct orientation

    I know this has been mentioned in a few threads, but there hasn't been a satisfactory answer so far.
    Just to summarise - when you sync photos with your iPhone, the EXIF rotation/orientation information is lost and photos are always displayed in the 4:3 orientation, and never 3:4 if required.
    As near as I can tell, Apple just haven't bothered coding the orientation information (or creating a 3:4 thumbnail, I'm not sure how the ithmb format works exactly) when it is creating the photo database for syncing with the iPhone. Yet it works fine with iPhoto...
    I've trawled through the Apple support pages and can't find any mention of this or how to get Apple to address such a serious problem. It's very frustrating syncing my photos to my PC, only to have them lose their orientation when syncing them back to the iPhone.

    Probably the best that you can do is submit this to Apple's iPhone feedback page:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html
    If this is bothering enough people, maybe they'll make that change in future revisions.

  • Perspective Grid: switch orientation on horizontal plane

    I have a tall rectangle I want to place on the horizontal plane of the perspective grid.
    Clicking that plane in the widget, or slecting the rectangle and hitting 2, results in the rectangle oriented towards the right vanishing point (or 2:00). I need it to point the other way, toward the left vanishing point (to 10:00).
    Is there some way to force an object to do that?
    Thanks for any help or thoughts on this.
    Mark

    Well, that's just really annoying. I spent 99 minutes and 31 seconds on the phone with tech support trying to get an answer to this with nothing to show for it.
    Thank you, Monika.

  • Elements 8 [Mac IOS 10.9]:  4 X 6" borderless printing -- top and bottom 1" are cutoff in Portrait and right and left 1 " are cutoff in Landscape

    I am using Elements 8 [with a recently installed Mac IOS 10.9] and a new Epson Artisan 1430 printer .  When I print 4" X 6" borderless photos, the top and bottom 1" are now cutoff in Portrait orientation and the right and left 1" are cutoff in Landscape orientation.  I do not have the same problem printing from iPhoto.  Epson tech support says this is not an Epson problem.  Does anyone have any suggestions?  Maybe I should just install Elements 12 and see if this might solve the problem.  Any ideas?

    You should use the scripting forum. I only hack at Photoshop scripting when I need to.  What I put together is usually made from code I find on the web and modify to do what I want to do. When it come down to it I really don't know javascript.  Your javascript knowledge is way beyond mine.  To tell the truth I don'e even understand the syntax of you first statment after target Photoshop.
    I have a programming background but most of mine was was in design, debugging, and developing programming development tools.  I retired back in 2002.   I never got into Object orientated programming though it was in full swing as was C programming along with java.  Microsoft had given up on its object orientate desktop OS2 system sidetracking IBM with it.
    I did not look closely at your code.  That something you should do. You know more then I do.....
    In the scripting forum you will get better help then I can give you.   Many of the better scriptwriter seem to have left there becase of  frustration with Adobe support. However there are some that still visit there regularly.
    You may want to look into Xtools there open source and the author still visits the forum from time to time. I have use some of his scripts but have never gotten into his library I'm retired I only play a little to keep some brain function. ps-scripts - Browse /xtools at SourceForge.net

  • Images In Finder

    This is more or less just curiosity.
    I uploaded some pictures to MySpace and the orientation wasn't right. I looked in Finder and it was right. Common sense told me that Finder automatically rotates images to the correct orientation. Okay. Fine. How does it KNOW when to rotate an image? My Mac never ceases to amaze me but this is one thing that I could not find the answer to.
    The other thing that I was wondering, as you can see in this print screen, all of these images have a little white frame around them in Finder except for the one in the top left corner. The ones with the frames were uploaded from my camera. The one without the frame is one that I edited in Photoshop (to permanently rotate it to the right orientation). Why don't they all have frames?

    Don't know about the orientation problem, but the white border previews are autogenerated previews created by the OS. The ones without the white border are custom icons created by Photshop. Select the file without the border and select File Menu->Get Info. Click on the icon in the upper left corner of the window and press the delete key. That will remove the custom icon.
