Orientation Problem self-printing books

I am currently experimenting with Aperture 3 with a view to using it as part of my event photography workflow. My plan is to be able to offer montage prints to my clients onsite and I was looking to use Aperture's book-printing module to provide this service. Unfortunately I have hit a snag....
I will be printing to a Mitsubishi CP3800 printer, producing 12x8" prints. I've successfully created a book template with these dimensions, but when I come to print out a page, the orientation is wrong. My preview shows the page in landscape orientation, but it insists on printing it portrait, and therefore getting it completely wrong.
I must be being thick, as I cannot seem to locate any way of changing the orientation at print-time. What am I doing wrong?
Simon

I too am evaluating A3 and ran into a similar problem while trying to print A7 (7x10) in Landscape. Through trial and error I found a way to get the desired results. I first set the orientation to Portrait, set a custom size (10x7 in my case), set the orientation back to Landscape, etc. and printed.

  • Orientation changes while Printing book/ cards

    When I make a card and write titles and other details on the front..and thereafter put it up for printing, I find that the titles and comments change their orientation (landscape/ portrait) while the photographs retain their orientation.
    This completely makes the page unprintable.. Can someone help

    SandeepBangia:
    Try deleting the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that's located in your User/Library/Preferences folder. Also empty the iPhoto folder that's in the User/Library/Caches folder. Launch iPhoto and try again.
    Are you printing the card yourself? If so and you have a 3rd party editor that can do layers you can try following Tutorial #8 to print the card. That will give you a perfect 7x5 card with no border issues.
    Do you Twango?
    TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
    I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Layout orientation problem when printing 2-sided InDesign booklet from pdf file

    I created a booklet (layout, letter-half) and it prints correctly directly from the .indd file. When I convert it to a pdf and print from that file, the back-sided pages get reversed and print up-side down. In other words, pages 1 & 8 are fine, but back-sided pages 2 & 7 print in reversed order and upside-down. (The pdf file itself looks fine). I have tried to trouble-shoot everywhich way--from conversion level to printer level--but I can't get this to work. Any help? Tips? Thanks.

    Hi Doreen,
    At 250 copies it may well be less expensive in consumables and time to have a quick print place to print this. Around here I would use my local FedEx Office. But I would also contact the offset/digital printer establishment I have used for years. A lot of the time they can match or beat the price and they do a better job.
    Take care, Mike

  • Printing orientation problems cs5

    I have a page setup in cs5 as a3 landscape but no matter what i do it always prints out in a rotated view on a3 paper and twists the image so it's cut off. I've tried everything.... gone through every print dialog option in cs4 and cs5 and compared and everything is the same. At present i'm having to make pdfs and print with that so it's a bit time intensive... any ideas out there?

    Hi!
    Same orientation problem.
    But I´m on MacOSX 10.6, InDesign CS5 and the printer is a Xerox DC240/250 with Fiery RIP.
    We have got 3 different computers (one of them is on 10.5 with CS5), all have the same problem when printing from InDesign CS5.
    Yes, it works to print a PDF, but this is not very effective because we print lots of work with the customer sitting in, and there is oftenly numerous of InDesign files to print at the time. Even if InDesign CS5 has become a monster app when it comes to generate PDFs quick, it´s an extra step then the customer is used to.
    I´ve gone through all the steps in this page: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/499/cpsid_49998.html when it comes to try different apps, restarting, change prefs, and so on. Also tried from all the computers with different accounts.
    When you create a portrait A5 or A4 there is no problem what so ever. But if it´s landscape the printer outputs the artwork rotated 90° as if the paper where in the other direction.
    The same thing also occurs when generating a PS-file.
    Note that CS4 outputs the file correct, with the same driver to the same printer, from the same setup. This would prove that the problem is not with the PPD-file, rather the InDesign CS5. We also tried to output from Photoshop CS5 with the same driver, this works flawlessly.
    (Sorry for my bad english, not my main language)
    Please, I would be grateful for any input in this case.
    Best regards
    Henrik

  • Anyone else also still having problems to order a printed book with pictures from iPhoto? Can you help?

    When I try to order a printed book, I can not get any further than to "check out". Then I get "oops the store is temporarily unavailable". It has been like this for the past two days.
    Everything else works on the Macbook Air. Mail, iTunes, surfing etc

    Also what print product store are you trying to order from?  Give this fix posted by another user a try:
    Quit iPhoto.
    From the Finder menu bar, choose Go > Utilities to access your Utilities folder (or press Shift-Command-U).
    In your Utilities folder, open Keychain Access.
    Find the "NetServices" entry in your Keychain Access window.
    Select the "NetServices" entry and press the delete key.
    Reopen iPhoto and attempt to place your order again.
    You should be prompted to enter your account information if you deleted the Keychain entry successfully.
    After entering your account information, you should be able to complete your order.

  • Problem when printing booklets prints pages 1,2 and 11 as if I wants to print all

    I am using XP and 2000 MS word
    I am having a problem when printing booklets from time to time. I get it ready to print in booklet form with 12 pages and my printer gives me the options. “Print all”  “current page”  “selection” or “pages”  Because it is booklet I want to print the first 4 pages to be folded and glued as a small book. When I inter 1-4 as the example shows some times it prints OK but about a week later it prints pages 1,2 and 11 as if it wants to print all. I thought it was the printer but think it could be in some setting of the word program or my computer it self.

    Also does this (i.e. prints web pages over several pages despite changing settings) on my laptop at work with an HP printer. This started when I upgraded to Firefox 9.0.1.

  • Scanning multiple pages from print book into computer

    How to scan multiple pages from print book into computer? Someone supplied a link to this question, but I got stuck at step 1: Where is "HP Director software"? In other directions, it says to open the "HP Scan window," but that option is not available to me when I follow the directions. I have an HP 2159m computer, HP Photosmart Plus all-in-one, Windows 7, and use Firefox, if that's any help.
    TIA

    I have a similar problem:
    I am using an HP Officejet 6310xi via its TWAIN interface.  Regardless of which application invokes TWAIN (whether Irfanview, Thumbs Plus, or something else), the scanner dialog closes after transferring each scanned image.  To scan the next page requires re-starting the scanner, beginning with a whole new preview and re-entering all my scan settings.  This is only an issue with the HP scanner, not with my Cannon CanoScan LIDE 100, Visioneer OneTouch 8920, or any other scanner, each of whose scanner dialogs stay open for scan after scan.  Can anyone help me make the HP scanner dialog stay open for multiple pages?
    Note: Based on a suggestion on another site I set my scan preferences to include "Prompt for Additional Scans from Glass" as follows, but it did not help.
    I am experienced at scanning, but I find it extremely frustrating that the HP scan dialog closes, forgetting its settings, after each page.

  • Problem in printing to LPT1 through applet?

    Hello everyone,
    I am having problem in printing through Applet in LPT1 of remote client machine using "gridDoubleClicked" method of customized "GridPanel" which is third party component. The class structure is given below:
    public class GridPanel extends Panel implements GridPanelInterface, AdjustmentListener, KeyListener, FocusListener, Serializable
    }I am using above class to populate data in table and perform "double click" action. I am using JDK 1.5 and a self signed jar to access from remote machines through applet.The code, I am using is given below:
    public class testApplet extends Applet {
        printToLPT1 lpanel =new printToLPT1();
        public void init() {
          this.setLayout(new BorderLayout());
          this.add(lpanel, BorderLayout.CENTER);
          this.setSize(380, 250);
    public class printToLPT1 extends Frame{
    GridPanel grid;
    public printToLPT1() throws Exception {
    grid.addGridListener(new GridAdapter() {
                public void gridDoubleClicked(GridEvent ge) {
                    testPrint();
    public static void testPrint() throws Exception {
            try {
                BufferedOutputStream pos = new BufferedOutputStream(new FileOutputStream("LPT1"));
                String str = "\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n";
                pos.write(str.getBytes());
                pos.flush();
                pos.close();
            } catch (Exception fnfe) {
                throw new Exception("PRINTER SETUP IS NOT PROPER");
    }For applet, I have used following script in login.html:
    <APPLET
         height="200px"
         archive="testprinter.jar,jbcl.jar,grid.jar,plugin.jar"
         width="390px"
         align="top"
         code="test.testApplet.class"
         name="Testing"
        ALT="<P>This applet requires Java to be enabled!  Check the browser options or see your SysAdmin." MAYSCRIPT>
        <P>This page requires Java!  Get it free from <A HREF='http://www.java.com/'>www.java.com</A>.</P>
    </APPLET>
    ------------------- If signed jar file of application is run using command line in client machine then "double clicked" of GridPanel method works fine and send signal to printer at LPT1 port but when same application is called using applet and accessed from remote machine with printer in LPT1 port, in that time also "double clicked" of GridPanel method works fine but printer could not be found and Exception is thrown java.lang.Exception:"PRINTER SETUP IS NOT PROPER" . Why is this happening? Can anyone suggest me the solution for this problem?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Degraded quality of photo printing book in Aperture 3

    Hi,
    I've isolated an issue in the print book function of Aperture 3 that drove me crazy in the last ten days:
    I've created a custom size book to deliver to a local print service via "save as pdf" function, but something gone wrong because the quality of the pdf isn't good as the original photos.
    After days of trials I've found where the problem rises up, so I'll try to explain step by step below:
    I've identified one critical photos that well shows the problem and I've "printed to pdf" from the normal print photo function of Aperture and the results was correct:
    So I've created a book and put that photo in a page and I've "print to pdf" the book. The results was degraded like you can see below (look at the dark areas that have lost every details):
    I've done the same operation in iPhoto, the "non Pro" minor App, and in a paradoxical way the iPhoto results PDF was perfect!
    I've also noticed that the preview image of the print dialog box of Aperture shows the defect unlike the dialog box of iPhoto:
    Aperture:
    iPhoto:
    So finally seems that something in the print engine of books in Aperture is broken and ruins the photos "before" are printed, and           apparently no setting seems to help.
    I've done this tials on a MacPro Lion 10.7.5 ad Aperture 3.4.3, MacBook Pro Lion 10.7.5 ad Aperture 3.4.3 and MacPro Snow Leopard with aperture 3.1 and 3.2 always with the same results.
    you can download the generated PDF here:
    pdf Aperture Photo:
    http://temp.paolorossi.me/ApertureImagePrint.pdf
    pdf Aperture book:
    http://temp.paolorossi.me/ApertureBookPrint.pdf
    pdf iPhoto book:
    http://temp.paolorossi.me/iPhotoBook.pdf

    I've done another test:
    I've created a sample image with 4 colour faded bars with values from 0 to 128 for RGB and gray then I've putted on a page in Aperture book and iPhoto book then I've printed on PDF.
    Below you can see the results: iPhoto is good whereas Aperture is ruined.
    iPhoto results:
    Aperture results:
    I've also noticed the Aperture results is influenced by the color profile chosed on the selector in the box, but no profile at all gives a good job , every profile returns a weird custom defect, also with "no profile" choice.

    Sometime after moving to RoboHelp 10, and even after successfully generating Printed Documentation output, I encountered a major problem generating Printed Documentation from RoboHelp: “Internal error encountered. Failed to generated Printed Documentation”. The error occurred when I tried to generate Printed Doc using my default TOC, which looks something like this:
    Topic A
    Topic B
    Book 1
    Book 2
    Book 3
    Topic C
    Topic D
    Based on an old Peter Grainge reply to someone about a similar problem, I removed all but the first topic from the Chapter Layout pane and generated the Help. Everything was fine until I got to the topics after Book 3. At that point everything started to fail again. When I removed Topics C, D, etc. from the Chapter Layout pane, the output was built successfully.
    I tried moving Topics C, D, etc. to the top of the Chapter Layout pane, and got the same error. I tried creating a new folder and put Topics C, D, etc. into that folder. Failure after failure.
    As an experiment, I removed all the Topics C, D, etc from the Chapter Layout pane, but then added them to the Print Document Section Layout pane (not where I want them). The Printed Documentation built successfully.
    During attempts to build with Topics C, D, etc. in the Chapter Layout pane, I kept getting a Word error: Word is trying to recover your information. After that there was always a failure.
    Selecting PDF as the output did not work when the Topic C, D, etc. files were at the bottom of the Chapter Layout pane.
    I create a new TOC and a new Printed Documentation SSL. Failed to generate.
    As a matter of reference, I've been generating Printed Documentation from the same TOC for more than a year and so cannot figure out what has changed in RoboHelp or Word to cause this grief .
    Has anyone experienced anything like this?

    Dear Peter,
    Thanks for following up. Last Friday I finished extensive testing on my own and working with RoboHelp Support. Here's what I sent to Support this morning.
    If after reading this screed, you think it worthwhile for me to get a copy from Source Control for you to look at, I will do so. Thanks for offering to look at it.
    Environment
    Windows 7 Enterprise Service Pack 1, 8.00 GB RAM, 64-bit OS
    Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2010 Version 14.0.7106.5003 64-bit--Note: We repaired my current version of Word, in case that was the problem, but did not reinstall Office--we do not think that the Word version is the problem because we generated successfully with other TOCs and when generating individual documents.
    RoboHelp 10.0.1.292. Upgraded from RoboHelp 9 in May 2013. Replaced hard drive in September 2013 and reinstalled RoboHelp.
    Visual Studio 2010 Professional 10.0.40219.1 SP1Rel (I open the project from Source Control and check files out to a folder on my desktop.)
    Issue
    Printed Documentation failed multiple times with the default Table of Contents, which contains all the topics in the project. TOC specs are as follows:
    Properties: .docx, desktop location, no conditions, embedded images, “Generate a single document”, “Retain hyperlinks”.
    330 files, 12 top-level books, 15 second-level books, 7 third-level books, 6 fourth-level books, and 8 fifth-level books
    Results
    Generation to Printed Documentation does NOT fail for other, module-specific TOCs, nor to WebHelp Pro SSLs for the same sets of topics. In addition, and perhaps more important, generation to Printed Documentation does NOT fail with “Generate Individual Documents” selected, or when there are approximately fewer than 259 files in the TOC.
    Did not fail consistently based on any particular topic.
    Did not fail consistently based on location of any particular topic in the TOC.
    Failed when I created new TOCs based on ‘working’ TOCs. For example, copied a module-specific TOC and then added topics to it from the default (superset) TOC. I did this in case the original default TOC was corrupted.
    Failed when I create a new TOC with the same folder/file structure from scratch.
    Failed when I created a new TOC with a flat file structure from scratch.
    Failed when I retrieved an older TOC from the last release of the product.
    Failed when I created new SSLs each time. I did this in case the SSLs had got corrupted.
    Failed when I did not open the project from Source Control (removed project from Source Control and worked locally).
    Began to see failure when there were more than about 258-263 files in the TOC. For example, successfully generated Printed Documentation with 262 files in the TOC. Added one topic and the generation failed. Removed that topic and added several others, one at a time. Consistently failed. To test this, I created a TOC with all the files in a flat structure, generated a report for the TOC, printed it, and counted the number of files. I then began deleting files and regenerating the Printed Document to try to identify the number of files in the TOC when the generation failed. Successfully generated up to about 258 files and then it began failing. (Occasional successes at 260 and 261, but that may be because I didn’t always consistently remove the Glossary and Index from the Chapter Layout pane.)
    Other Comments
    (I know that we should generally post non-RH issues to other forums, but in this case I wanted to include all potentially related issues in this posting.)
    The first time you generate any type of output, the “Critical error of Source Control Provider. Please restart IDE.” Message appears. This message appears behind RoboHelp. As a result, if the RoboHelp window is maximized, you think that RoboHelp is hung. Forcing a close of RoboHelp leaves the partially generated Word document in an unstable state. When you re-open RoboHelp and try to generate the output again, RoboHelp says that the output is in use. Unfortunately, there is no way to ‘free’ the Word document and you have to restart the computer. In addition, when the dialog box is hidden, even using Alt+Tab to find the dialog box is complicated because you can’t grab it and click OK until RoboHelp completes its processing. The workaround is to reduce the size of the application window so that you can see the dialog box and try to quickly grab it and click OK. That said, as soon as processing is complete you can grab the dialog box and click OK; at that point RoboHelp displays its own error message about the success or failure of the output generation. It is not clear whether the RoboHelp API or Source Control puts up this error message, but it’s definitely a problem until you happen upon the workaround.
    RoboHelp does not check SSLs even when I right-click the SSL in the Single Source Layouts pane, click Check In, select the XML and SSL files, and leave “Keep checked out” deselected. The red check mark remains next to the SSL name. In addition, even when I Check In All files before closing the project, the next time I open the project RoboHelp displays a series of Check In dialog boxes requiring me to check them in again.
    When RoboHelp hangs during a Printed Documentation failure and the Version Control setting is to check in all files when closing a project (which I’ve now deselected to avoid this problem), Ctrl+Alt+Del indicates that you cannot shut down the program because RoboHelp is waiting for a response. Yes, RoboHelp was waiting for me to check in some files (because of the Version Control setting), but hid the Check In Source Files dialog box behind the application. This usually left a Word document in limbo, forcing me to restart the computer.
    At one point RoboHelp stopped saving changes to an SSL after I made changes and clicked Save and Generate. Each time I reopened the SSL, I had to select .docx, etc. all over again.

  • Epson print profile problem. Prints overexposed.

    I am doing something wrong so here it goes. I was printing on Epson semi gloss paper and all was fine. I switched to Epson Premium Glossy paper, switch to what I think is the proper printing profile according to the Epson website, but now when I print all my photos are overexposed. On the screen they look fine. I have tried to adjust using Aperture but it appears I cannot adjust enough to make a difference. My printer is an Epson R2400, I believe all my drivers are up to date, as well as my Mac software. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

    I am pretty sure there is a bug in Aperture, because I can get perfect prints from Preview or almost any other app, but with Aperture 2.1.1 and Mac OS X 10.5.5, my colors are off. Note, my problem is prints are too dark, not too light, and my prints from Aperture have a green cast.
    After struggling with this for a while, I think I have a work around. I posted it here: http://blogs.oreilly.com/aperture/2008/06/printing-tips.html. Copied below, for your convenience. I hope it helps.

    I am using a Epson R1900 (which is a huge improvement from my Epson Stylus Photo 870). I have a calibrated display, and colors are on very good on the display.
    I use the latest printer driver from Epson. NOT the Gutenprint, gimp, or cups print drivers. I tried those, and was not pleased.
    Here is my workflow and settings.
    Select Print (image, book, whatever) to get the printer dialog. Select your printer. Then (this is important), select ColorSync Profile = SystemManaged.
    Now, hit the print setting button. Select the driver specific setting from the pop-up menu. On an Epson, it is called "Print Settings". Then select your paper type, color= color, 16bits, color settings= 'Off (No Color Adjustment)', print quality, and speed. If you have advanced settings, check those. My advanced setting tells me the name of my colorsync profile. Very handy if you are going to calibrate your printer for different papers.
    Now everything is set up. It should print fine. But is doesn't. At least in Aperture. So, hit Preview in the main print dialog box. That should send a PDF temporary file to Preview. In Preview, select print. Now do all the settings again.
    In Preview, there is a "Color Matching" setting on the popup menu. Select Color Matching, ColorSync (as opposed to EPSON Color Controls). I select profile "Automatic" which gives the same profile noted above under advanced settings.
    Now, finally, you can print. And the prints look great.
    From any application besides Aperture, the colors are so good on the print, I did not even bother to calibrate the printer. The stock profiles are perfect. Using the work around above, I also get excellent color.
    Using Aperture, with either the colorsync profile selected in Aperture, or using System Managed, I get poor results. Too dark with a green cast. But by sending the print to Preview first, I am able to work around the bug.

  • ABLE TO PRINT IMAGES, UNABLE TO PRINT BOOKS!

    I saw a message a while back with the same problem, but with no answer. Please help! I can print images, but i can't print a book's page, unless there's only text in the page!
    Thank you for your help!
    MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Aperture.
    Print image: YES
    Print book: NO
    Print book page with text only: YES
    Print book page with image: NO
    Print book page with text and image: NO
    Generated PDF from within Aperture, then tried printing it: same behaviour (got prints only for pages with text only).
    Any other PDFs in my computer print fine, whether pages with images, photos, text or combination of all of them.
    It seems that aperture is not only unable to print from its own system, but it inherits those flaws to the PDFs it generates as well.
    PLEASE HELP!
    Thank you.

  • InDesign Problems when Printing to Xerox 700i Digital Color Press Running Fiery EFI

    Mac OS 10.9.3, up to date Adobe CC InDesign.
    Every time I print to the Xerox using Fiery features, afterward I cannot save.  If I close the file and try to re-open it, I am told that another user is modifying the document.  If I restart, then go into my file folder and discard the idlk file that was not removed when I closed, I can once again save changes etc, until I print again.  Then no deal...
    Today I installed Indesign CC (2014).  Every time I print an Indesign file using the Xerox with the Fiery features, the application prints, then crashes.  I was hoping the new version would be better.  For me it is WORSE!
    I have written nine books with InDesign.  They are each 500+ page manuals.  I have tried to find help for a year and can't seem to find it.  I am close to telling my partners that we need to find a new solution.  I cannot take the extreme hit to my productivity that I have taken trying to work with this software package.  Seems a shame since I've been through several versions of InDesign over the last 12 years.  Changing will be extremely painful, but I may just need to bite the bullet.

    Yes, I have Fiery Hot Folders Console.  That is certainly an alternative that should work as I can then avoid having to choose Fiery Features from the print dialog box in order to choose the paper tray and other features I need.
    I am about to try a clean install of OS 10.9.3, and I am not the least bit happy about it.  Adobe CC is my main set of go-to applications for my work, and those are the only applications that give me ANY problems with printing.  I have forked out real money on different versions since I started using Adobe in the late 1990's, and my troubles seem to increase with every new release.

  • Problem - buying a book (Foto) over Aperture

    since 2 weeks i try to order a fotobook from my private fotos over aperture- Program. I have had always the same problem. The book is ready. I order the book. The program is running. The program try´s to send the information. Then there is a news in german "Beim Laden einer ihrer Dateien ist ein Fehler aufgetreten" In english "With the store of one of her files a mistake has appeared".
    I talked to the apple support. After 30 minutes diskussion. they said, that i have to build a new book und try again.
    I have done that. But the same Mistake comes again.
    Any help out there?

    See if you can create  pdf file of the book as described in this Apple document: iPhoto '11: Preview a book, card, or calendar before you order or print it. If you can't then try repairing the library as follows: make a temporary, backup copy (select the library and type Command+D) and  apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
    Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
    Since only one option can be run at a time start with Option #1, followed by #3 and then #4 as needed.
    Fix #2
    Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
    Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
    Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
    Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
    In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
    Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.
