Original Airpor Question

Starting today my airport on my old TiPB500 started acting up. Airport is constantly trying to get status from my wireless DSL modem. Its used this connection for two years w/o a problem. If you look at the airport radar up on the top of the screen, its one, then off, then on and so forth forever ever seconds or so.
When connected to the AC, it works fine.
Any ideas?? Already tried resetting and a whole host of other simple stuff.

There is no doubt that equipment does go bad on occasion.
From what you explain though, the first place I would look is for local INTERFERENCE.
Sometimes a neighbors new wireless connection on the same channel can cause interference. Change your channel to 11.

Remember if your settings were correct before and your connection was good then it can be easier to narrow down your problem.
If your base is close to Microwave, or wireless phone use can also be your problem.
Be sure you check your Software Update and make sure you have the latest Firmware for your Airport Express or Extreme Base.

Deleting Original Pictures Question?

I just started using iPhoto. Prior to that I had all my pictures organized in folders by event. I imported all my pictures in iPhoto and almost everything was correct. For about 500 photos they dates we wrong causing the events to be out of order. I changed all the dates to the correct dates. I looked in the package contents on the iPhoto library file and noticed that there is a modified folder and an original folder. My question is relating to that... I compared the two folders and found that when I modified the date it created an entire new file in the modified folder... but it did not delete the original. I can understand keeping the original if you ever want to revert back or something... but all I did was change the date. I don't see the point in having two copies of the same picture, only with different dates.
Is there anyway to delete those originals without manually going through original directory and comparing the files to the modified directory???

Don't change anything in the iPhoto Library Folder via the Finder or any other application. iPhoto depends on the structure as well as the contents of this folder. Moving things, renaming things or otherwise making changes will prevent iPhoto from working and could even cause you to damage or lose your photos.

Restart the iPad as well and reboot the computer again. See if it works after you restart the iPad.

"Original Size" picks up the resolution from the image, so is image dependent.
The DPI settings by default are 300.

IMac G5 original packing question

I am selling my iMac G5 (because of travel, I've been using my MacBook Pro exclusively lately) and want to pack it all up nicely in the original carton.
Does anybody remember exactly how it fits?
1. The stand was originally attached, right?
2. Does it go in the box between the two foam inserts right-side up or upside-down?
The reason I ask is because with the stand attached and right-side up the stand is flat against the bottom of the box and it just doesn't seem well-protected somehow.
Does anybody remember?

Hi Doug, as far as I can remember, the iMac G5 is packed as it is, standing upright inside the box as well, as how it exactly fits inside, betwen the foams etc, I would not know.
Maybe you can do a search on the web, someone might have taken pictures of unpacking an iMac G5, or even an iMac Intel (hopefully they pack the same) and posted on their own websites or something

You need to ask Apple to reset your security questions; this can be done by clicking here and picking a method, or if your country isn't listed, filling out and submitting this form.
They wouldn't be security questions if they could be bypassed without Apple verifying your identity.

OSB Catalog Sizing & Other Catalog Questions

I'm new to OSB, so was trying to find any sizing information on how much disk capacity I need to consider for the OSB catalog on my Admin/Media server.
Obviously typical metrics like:
■ The number of files being backed up
■ The frequency and the retention period of the backups
has a direct influence on the size and growth of the catalog, but are there any formulas which can be used to estimate required capacity, based on these (or other) metrics?
Does the catalog ever get compressed (or even deduplicated) on disk during it's lifetime?
Also, are catalog backups written to tape in the same way that normal OSB backups are? And what happens if the size of the catalog exceeds a single piece of media?

so for the largest client you talk about, once its backup has completed and the catalog is being updated, it now needs 24 GB of space for OSB to update the host's own catalog file?
Of the 5TB of data, do you have an idea roughly how many files that might include?
Going back to my original sizing question, if I look at Veritas NetBackup Backup Planning and Performance Tuning Guide, for example, there are two methods described there that assist in sizing the amound of space needed for the NetBackup catalog (pages 28 - 31). Both methods use as their basis a 3180 bytes catalog size for each file retained. Do you know of a similar figure?
To your point about hosting the catalog on fast disks, are there any recommendations as to particular IO characteristics for them? For example, would hosting the catalog on an NFS share be a good idea (if it was provided on a 10 GbE connection, for example)? Or would internal disks or even LUNs from FC-SAN attached arrays be better?
