Original and duplicate version stick together

Hey,
I just duplicated a picture in Aperture 3 and wanted to move the duplicate in a diffrent project but both version stick together. If i move one, the other follows..
Does anybody have an idea how i can change this?
Best regards, Stéph

Hey Guys,
okay i find out that by keeping ''atl'' pressed while moving the image did wha i was looking for.
could you help me to set up properly my library?
...''Your workflow is
shoot
import as Project(s)
add image-specific metadata
organize into Albums, organize Albums and Projects with Folders
make adjustments to images (crop, rotate, change exposure, etc. etc. etc)
prepare for publication
how do i organize my projects into albums?
(my current library)

How can I create a slideshow that depicts only a version of a photo rather than the original?   Since the original and new versions are saved together, the aperture slideshow often choices the original rather than the desired version to display.

There are two things we use the name "Slideshow" for in Aperture:  a Slideshow Album, used for making Slideshows, and the Slideshow that is made.  (Imho, it is a design mistake to not call the containers used to create Slideshows, Books, etc., "Albums".)
The Slideshow will use the Album Pick from any Stack.  A good way to use Aperture is to promote the Image you want to regularly use (such as, for example, a Version with adjustments) to the top of the Stack.  This makes it the Stack Pick, and will be the default Album Pick.  If you haven't done that, you can still change the Album Pick for any Stack in a Slideshow Album.  Expand your Stack(s), select the Image in each Stack that you want to be the Album Pick (and thus shown in the Slideshow), and "Stacks➞Set Album Pick".  (Note the keyboard shortcut; there is also a Toolbar icon for this.)  The change is immediate.  The Slideshow will always show the Album Pick (or, if there is not one, the Stack Pick) for every Stack in your Slideshow Album.

  • Saving original and modified versions

    Hey all,
Can someone tell me how to stop iphoto from saving both an original and modified version of my photos? It's very confusing when I try to access the photos to upload onto flickr, or to burn dvds etc.
I can't believe how much time I've wasted on this program--and now have had to start all over from scratch.

    Hello.
You do have a choice. Use a file browser. There are many available. They let you simply store the photos on your hard drive, in your folders, how you want them. Easy.
Why does iPhoto behave as it does? Because it offers much more complex features than any file browser. iPhoto is not a file browser. It is a database application with non-destructive editing. You import a photo. iPhoto creates a thumbnail version, linked to your original, for efficient presentation of your library on screen. You edit, and it creates a full-sized copy, which you then modify. It keeps track of the edited version, linked to your original. Your thumbnail is also located and updated to match the edited version. If you ever wish to go back, you can always Revert to Original. The edited version will be deleted, and your thumbnail will again reflect the change. All before you can blink your eyes.
So, yes, the way to get your files for uploading or burning to DVD is to select from iPhoto, then export. Because iPhoto will be sure to export the full-sized, most recent version of your photos. You never need to root around its library folders to find them yourself. Exporting gives you the additional ability to rename the copies. And, even better, to resize the copies, since smaller files work better for viewing on most websites. After you finish with the upload you can trash the exported copies.
Then consider the Albums and Folders in your Source Pane. With a file browser, you'd have to duplicate your files to display them in more than one album (because album = folder). With iPhoto's database, albums never create duplication; they are virtual arrangements which have no presence in your folder structure. The benefit - you can have a photo in 100 albums, with very little increase to the size of your library.
Play with other search features, and iPhoto becomes very powerful indeed. Smart Albums can be created to compile photos based on many criteria, and they stay current with your library. With the calendar tool you can pull up photos from any year, month, and/or date with just a few clicks. Keywords can be used to include or eliminate (Option-click a keyword) groups of photos until you have just the grouping you want. [Ex: I can find all photos of my daughter, with my in laws, at a festival, NOT at Christmas, with animals....]
It is a shift in thinking to leave the iPhoto Library alone and let iPhoto deal with the file management. As long as it works, why does it matter how it's done? You have all of its tools at your disposal.

  • Combining original and edited versions of photos?

Is there some way to "combine" photos in iPhoto such that edits I've made outside of iPhoto register as modified versions of the original images? (I only started using iPhoto last year, but I have original and edited versions of photos from before then. The same happens if I take a photo on my iPhone and edit it via an app before importing it to iPhoto.)
    Thanks!

Well, I have gotten one thing to work: "edit" the original photo, save it without changes, open that file (under the Modified/ folder in my iPhoto Library), copy the modified file into that location, delete the "modified" photo and rename the actual modified file to that name, and then iPhoto sees it.
    Lot of work though…
    *And VERY dangerous*
NEVER make any changes to the structure or content of the iPhoto library using the finder - doing so carries a very high risk of corrupting your library and causing loss of data and possibly photos
The only safe way is to export the edited photo(s) and then import back to iPhoto and delete the old unedited photos using iPhoto - trying to do it with the finder as you are may work if you never make a mistake but it is VERY dangerous and should not be done

  • What is the difference between 'command delete' and using 'delete original and all versions'?

My masters are not referenced and I usually have only one version.  What is the difference between using 'command delete' versus going to the top menu bar and using 'dele

    Good question  .
When the Version is the only Version based on the Original of that Version, the two commands have the same effect.

  • Keep .dng "original" AND adjusted version... or just revert to CR defaults for "original" condition?

As with everyone, my file space requirements are growing rapidly.  So, for my workflow, from my camera I'm planning to keep the .jpg and .cr2 (Canon) converted to .dng as my "original" files (then dump the .cr2).  I'll then take the .dng into camera raw and create a .psd to work on.  That .psd would become the finished product which I'll keep that along w/a .tiff and .jpg version of it. (Total of 5 files)
At first I was going to keep both the original .dng AND the .dng after adjustment in Camera Raw (save w/[DONE] hosted in Bridge)  - but in the interest of saving some space I thought I could instead save only the adjusted .dng.
That way I'd have saved my adjustments, but if I ever wanted to "start over," or try another processing round for the file, I could just make a copy of the adjusted .dng and reset everything to 'default' in Camera Raw so that the file would be  (I think...) just as it was right after the .cr2 -> .dng conversion.
Is there any major/critical flaw to this plan?  I don't want to start to do this and then find out 1,000 images later that I overlooked something I shouldn't have.

Well, you do know that Camera Raw has the ability to store Snapshots, right? So, when you get finished with an image you can save a snapshot so you can keep a record of your image adjustments. You could then also do a snapshot of the Camera Raw "Defaults" will in essence be whatever you have set as the default for your camera...
But no, as long as you are sure you'll _NEVER_ need to use the camera makers raw processing software, saving out a DNG with your snapshots should not produce a technical issue down the road...
With the possible exception of the fact this stuff keeps getting better and better so while your PSD might be state of the art given today's processing, the next version of Camera Raw may be capable of producing better results. You are under no obligation to reprocess your images once you are done with them, but nice to know you can if you want to...

  • Email invoices:  ABAP-Original and duplicate

    Hello SAP Gurus-
I am trying to understand why in standard SAP code why the Original versus Duplicate does not apply to Medium 5 for emailing invoices?  Here is the code below:
    FORM CHECK_REPEAT .
      CLEAR REPEAT.
SELECT * INTO *NAST FROM NAST WHERE KAPPL = NAST-KAPPL
                                    AND   OBJKY = NAST-OBJKY
                                    AND   KSCHL = NAST-KSCHL
                                    AND   SPRAS = NAST-SPRAS
                                    AND   PARNR = NAST-PARNR
                                    AND   PARVW = NAST-PARVW
AND   NACHA BETWEEN '1' AND '4'.
My client uses the email functionality to send duplicates and they do not like that the invoice says "Original".  What is the common solution?  Is there one other than changing code?  Why isn't medium 5 part of the code?
    Thanks!

Medium is indifferent to original or repeat invoices.  You need a code in the print driver program, or Form (SE71) - WINDOW REPEAT, to check STATUS.  To output a "This is a reprint of the original xxx invoice." statement when if the invoice has already been released.

  • IPhoto '11 v. 9.2.3 bug when splitting events containing flagged and duplicate versions of same photo in Event.

    UPDATE:
Okay, I don't know how to delete this - so I'm just saying that after sending this, I found Terrance's reply to a similar post (3/3/12).  I didn't realize iPhoto had been changed so that the "master" controls duplicates.  I do understand how to export, et cetera .... and I do use albums also!  I just really want the duplicate photos to NOT be in the general Events.  Trust me, I have a good reason!
Thank you for your (previous) help!
    ~h
Okay, when I created this User Name, I didn't foresee this situation.  I'm pretty sure this is a real bug - and maybe someone can let the appropriate programmer know....
Essentially, I'm organizing my 2012 iPhoto library and am trying to get around the rule that a photo can only be in one Event.  I flagged the photos I want to keep where they are - AND - be grouped separately.
Then in Flagged, I duplicated all.  Then I unflag the orginal files.
Then I modified the duplicated (version 2 or version 3) files.
So, in the original events, there are the two versions of some photos.
Opening one of the events, I select a couple of photos and "split".
Split event does get created, but it has no photos.
Photos and duplicated photos remain in original event.
I'm quitting now - before I lose everything.....!
(I'll back up the library and try again later.........!)
and jsut for the fn of it, I'm adding that I find it strange that I'd have to manually click "abc-check" -- that spellcheck doesn't run automatically.   --I guess it annoys others?

    First Try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder (Snow Leopard and Earlier).
or with Lion and Mt. Lion from the User/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto/
    Data/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE:  In Lion and Mountain Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
If that doesn't help apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - run Option #4 to rebuild the database.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button and select the library you want to add in the selection window..
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments.  However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • Original and Duplicate invoices. History tab.

    Hi,
I need to create a pdf file (invoice) with a watermark that apears conditionaly in the layout. The watermark is (Original, Duplicate).
I can't get that information from the xml file (Datasource) im using to generate the invoice.
Everytime I schedule a job a record is created, in the History Tab. So, we have the Information we need to tell if that invoice was already created (invoice number).
If i can access that infomation, im able to tell if that invoice was already created, and throuth query i would be able to get that information in the xml file when we run the job, and show the watermark conditionaly in the layout.
Is this possible? Is there a way to know many time a specifice report with a specific entry fields was created?

Medium is indifferent to original or repeat invoices.  You need a code in the print driver program, or Form (SE71) - WINDOW REPEAT, to check STATUS.  To output a "This is a reprint of the original xxx invoice." statement when if the invoice has already been released.

  • Original and Transcoded (ProRes 422) Media

    Hi all
Can anyone explain to me what exactly is the point of having both original (say H264, for example) and transcoded media in a library? I fail to grasp the point since I am only interested in dealing with prores files.
    Thanks

    Hyphen.
If FCP has the choice between original and optimized versions it will always use optimized.
It is not necessary to copy both versions  to your library. If you check leave files in place in the import window and also check create optimized, it will link to the external original media and copy the Pro Res version to your library. Of course, it the clips are still on the camera, (or if you are importing from a camera archive) there will be no leave in place option and you would need to manage the library files after import.

  • Original and current budget together with PTD,ITD,MTD and YTD labor...

    Hi experts:
I need a Project Accounting Report that shows Original and Current budget together with PTD,ITD,MTD and YTD labor amount, labor cost, non-labor cost, and revenue on the same line for all the task_id for a project. I know these are coming from these ,PA_BUDGET_VERSIONS V, PA_RESOURCE_ASSIGNMENTS A,PA_BUDGET_LINES L, main tables. But I am unable to break down the amounts according to PA and GL periods. Can anyone help please?
Thanks a million , in advance.

    Help you with what?
    No database version number.
No application name or version number.
    No DDL.
Do you, for some reason, think we have any idea what PTD and ITD are? If so why?
Do you think we all have your version of a table named PA_RESOURCE_ASSIGNMENTS on our hard disks?
Perhaps you have some version of e-Business Suite. Perhaps you have SAP. Perhaps you have something we've never even heard of.
    Your task is as follows:
    1. If this question relates to an Oracle product change the subject of the post to "Please Ignore" and post your question in the correct forum.
    or
    2. Provide us with sufficient information that we can duplicate those portions of your environment required to understand what you are asking.

  • 1000s of versions and duplicates needing major clean up + sorting, help?

Please forgive me if this question has been posted and answered before, but rather like the problem I am facing it's hard to see the wood for the trees.
Over the years I have backed up on a hard drive several thousand photos from various versions of iPhoto, the last one iPhoto 6. These are scattered in many folders in varying resolutions, some with given names, others with the camera generated names like P1009....JPG etc. Some are entire iPhoto libraries backed up at different times. Many many duplicates in many folders.
I now have a shiny new MacBook Pro with iPhoto 9 and Time Machine.
How do I sort through all these photos, get rid of duplicates and end up with one consolidated library of only the original hi res versions?
Ideally need a button that says" *"find and delete duplicates, only keep original highest res versions and then sort them in date creation order".*
    Thanks in advance.

    1. I noticed I have iPhoto Library Manager already bought and installed on the old PowerBook G4. Can this copied and transferred onto the new MacBook Pro?
One for the makers of iPhoto Library Manager. Drop them a line. AFAIK it should be okay. But I would download the latest version.
    2. When launching and merging libraries set to avoid duplicates how will it know to keep original hi res versions and avoid lo res duplicates.
Again, as question for the iPhoto Library Manager people. But be sure the phrase it differently. If one file is Hi res and the other is Lo res, then they are not, by definition, duplicates
Any iPhoto Library will contain up to three versions of the same photo: The Original, the Modified (if the pic has been editied) and the Thumbnail used for display in the iPhoto Window. iPhoto Library Manager negotiates these versions. So, if you merge libraries it preserves the relationship between these versions.
    3. Before getting your reply I came across Duplicate Annihilator. Any good, does the same job or something else?
Only useful for Duplicates in iPhoto - and very good at that. Ideally the process I outline will avoid same. But it's there as a fall-back

  • Duplicate version looks different than original -- same adjustments

This morning I imported a few photos (D70 RAW), found they looked good with the default processing (no adjustments applied other than the default RAW 1.1 processing), and created duplicate versions to crop to different sizes. The duplicate versions look different -- the dark areas of the photos are lighter and noisier (sorry, still learning proper photo terminology). The duplicate versions have the identical adjustments (none). I tried toggling the cropping on/off, and the duplicate versions still look different.
This is very odd... has anybody else experienced this?
    iMac 24" 2.16GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   2.0 GB RAM NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GT 256 MB Nikon D70

I did a little more investigation on this issue, and found that when I make the duplicate version, the image still looks identical. It is when I crop the image that things get messed up -- even if I then remove the crop adjustment.
