Nothing dumb about the question. Read this: http://www.google.co.nz/search?q=cache:tP64cLviX0oJ:www.ocfaq.com/forum_new/showthread.php%3Ft%3D72+nvflash+%22bad+BIOS%22&hl=en&lr=lang_en&ie=UTF-8

[EDIT] I forgot to mention that when i boot with the FX 5600 the monitor doesnt retrieve a signal and it goes into power save mode. Is this good or bad? Will i still be able to flash it?
A bad thing.  But the card is still flashable no matter what the condition of the BIOS within.  For example, have a looksy here

Is there a tutorial on how to flash the new BIOS?
Decompress the provided .rar archive with Winrar: http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm
Then flash the desired file included with Nvflash for dos: http://www.guru3d.com/files_details/nvflash_download.html
To do so rename the included file to .rom and create a dos bootstick (https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=165175.0)
Put nvflash and the vbios file on it and boot from the stick. Then type nvflash -4 -5 -6 gop.rom (if renamed vbios that way) and hit enter. Confirm the questions and let the tool flash.

Also, what is the difference between normal and ln2, or witch one is safe to use?
normal is the pre-overclocked default vbios. LN2 (which can be chosen via the selector switch on top of your card) is not factory overclocked but allows more extreme manual oc without the limits of normal vbios (more voltage and power draw allowed). This is especially needed for extreme oc like if using Liquid nitrogen (LN2) cooling for oc records.

What exactly is your problem? You should not need BIOS update for an OS install. >> Posting Guide <<  >> Drivers <<
Don't update BIOS unless absolutely needed for some other problem.

If you want SSE3 support and you do not overclock, Bios 1.4 is the only one officially available (1.41beta is not official).
Try to upgrade to 1.4 and see it for yourself, do the upgrade with floppy in DOS so that you can save your old Bios.
I would rather wait till mid June when a less troublesome new bios is suppose to be availabe for NEO4 MBs.

I have the annoying problem with my new video card: a screen is periodically blinking in 2D. Probably that problem already solved in a newest BIOS?

Decompress the attached .rar archive with Winrar: http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm
Create a bootable usb stick (https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=165175.0).
Then unpack the previously provided archive (xxx.rar) and put the included file (TVxxxxx.zzz) on that stick.
    Rename TVxxxxx.zzz to zzz.rom.
    Put the atiflash.exe from: https://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/2306/atiflash-4-17/
on the USB stick too. Now boot from the stick.
Type atiflash -p -f -noaper 0 zzz.rom [ENTER] and let it flash the vbios.

  • BIOS needed for a K8D Master-3 FS(M)

I just got a K8D Master-3 FS(M) MB and while trying to solve a problem I have done something rather stupid!
I have replaced the BIOS with one meant for the K8D Master-F by mistake.  Interestingly enough the computer still works although things could obviously be better!  It only sees the RAM attached to CPU0 and it has a couple of minor errors, but other than that I can run Debian Linux fine.  Also the problem with the LSI Logic 21320-R card with SCSI disks attached hanging during POST is actually solved with the wrong BIOS!
I need to get a copy of the original BIOS (1.0a) to reflash with, and then I should be back to where I started!
If someone is able to help me get a copy of the original Master-3 BIOS, I would really appreciate it.  Basically the Master-F BIOS update program allows you to save a copy of the original Master-3 BIOS, which I should have done if I was thinking. Here is what you need to do:
    1. Go to this page http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/bios/bos/spt_bos_detail.php?UID=441&kind=3 and download the 9131v1.2.exe BIOS update program.
    2. Put the files on a bootable DOS floppy, except for the BIOS update file itself (A9131KMS.120).  This will ensure that there is room (4Mb, i.e. 512KB) to save your existing BIOS onto the floppy.
    3. Boot the DOS disk and run amiflash.exe
4a. Press Alt-F to bring up the "File" options
4b. Press the Down Arrow to go to the "BIOS Filename for saving..."
4c. Enter "A:\origbios.rom"   The program will save the original BIOS to your floppy.  Please send a copy of this to me!!!  I am really stuck at the moment, because MSI does not publish the original on their website.
    Thanks in advance,
    Brian

Just send an email to [email protected] for the BIOS, normally they are very willing to send you that version.

    Hi
Check graphics card itself, should have a sticker with S/N. Else it might be hard (or impossible) to provide correct vBIOS.

  • Bios Settings For MSI K8N Neo4/SLI Platinum MB

Hello all...  Has anyone came up with the best and most stable bios settings for the MSI K8N Neo4/SLI Platinum motherboard yet.  Specifically under the CPU and Memory menus.

Well that depends on the installed CPU and memory, doesnt it? So I find that question kinda odd.

  • BIOS chip for MSI H67MA-E35 (B3)

Is it possible to get a BIOS chip for this motherboard?
I've got this motherboard from a friend. He wanted to flash the BIOS but it failed. The board was fine before the flash but now it can't do anything anymore. It's just the BIOS that's bad.
The chip seems to be relatively easy to remove. I would like to solder on a new one.
Someone who can help me out? Thanks!!!

Its probably just a bricked board. I suggest you phone your local PC shops and find out which one has a ISP programmer. That way they can flash the latest, or any BIOS version for that matter, onto the current BIOS chip, ensuite.  Here is an example of such a programmer http://www.xeltek.com/In-System-Programmers/SuperPro-IS01/
Fry's Electronics in the US seems to be quite helpful from what I understand. That is of course if you are from the US.
You can download the latest BIOS from the MSI site and take that along on a USB flash drive, and they will be able to flash it for you, at a fee of course, normally.
Else you can search the web for companies that specialise in sending you ready flashed BIOS chips, which will of course cost money as well and means you have to solder it onto the board.
Alternatively you can send the board to a MSI technical centre and they will also do the job.
You will have to weigh up the costs and time effort and decide.
