Original Computer crashed, setup itunes on new computer, how do I save my..

app data?
Is it possible for me to transfer my ipod to a new itunes without losing all the data I have recorded in my applications? My old computer fried and I was able to save my iTunes by loading a backup onto my new computer, so all my old music and playlists are back, but I know as soon as I connect it, it is going to ask me to delete everything on the ipod and reload. When I do this, I assume I will also lose my app data. Is there a way to save it?

Launch iTunes.
From the menu bar (top of your screen) click Store > Authorize This Computer
Now sync your iTunes media. Connect the iPhone. Select the iPhone under Devices left side of the iTunes window under Devices.
Select the content you want synced from the tabs, ie., Photos, Apps, Music, etc.
For Contacts, Calendars, Mail, Bookmarks and Notes select the Info tab.

  • Computer Blew Up, Now Using New One, How Do I Save My Library on IPod?

I recently had to buy a new computer and people are telling me not to plug my iPod in to the computer because it will erase the whole thing. How do I save my songs using iTunes?

    Hello DWC48161,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
You will first need to copy all the music from your iPod to your computer. There are several ways you can pull the music off your iPod and onto iTunes. The first link below provides step-by-step instructions for the direct method if you have a PC as well as a few third party applications (for both the Mac and PC) if you choose to go that route instead. You can also do a simple Google search for "copy music from iPod to computer" and you should receive a number of sites that can help you out.
Just make sure that when you have your iPod plugged into your computer, that you don't hit "Erase and Sync" before completing the task of copying your music over.
Also, if you have any purchased music, you will probably have to re-authorize your computer by heading to the Store drop down menu and choosing "Authorize computer."

How do I now initialize my iPod photo (30Gb) on the new computer? It is not registered to this new computer. Do I use the original CDs that came with my iPod 2 years ago?
I want to wipe the iPod clean and synch only selected stuff, as I have ~33Gb in my new iTunes library. How do I select smartly when I have 8000 files?

"How do I now initialize my iPod photo (30Gb) on the new computer? It is not registered to this new computer."
You don't need to do anymore than connect the iPod, if you are updating automatically it will connect and sync with the new library.
" I want to wipe the iPod clean and synch only selected stuff"
If you want to erase it and start from scratch then restore it with the iPod Updater. This will erase the hard drive, reload the software and put it back to default settings: Restoring iPod to Factory Settings
If you want an alternative to aoto-syncing the whole library then you can choose the update option "automatically update selected playlists only". Using this option you could create a playlist specifically for your iPod and drag the tracks you want into it. If you tire of the list and want to change it, you just add or remove the songs you don't want. The ones you take out out remain in the library. You can read more about playlists at these links:

  • Old computer crashed; loaded iTunes to new computer, won't sync my iPod

The computer I initially set up my 60g iPod video crashed (windows based). I loaded iTunes on my new computer (also windows based) and even entered my iPod serial number. When I plug it into the USB port, iTunes recognizes the iPod (with my name) and even shows all the songs and videos on the screen, but they are in faded gray and I can't highlight them or upload them into iTunes. When the iPod is first plugged in, I get the message about the iPod being authorized on another computer and can set it up on the new one, but then it would remove the entire contents and update with the new library which has nothing in it.
Is there any way to upload my iPod contents into the newly loaded iTunes on my new computer? I got an iTouch for X-Mas and I am hoping that when I load that software, it will recognize my older iPod's music library and upload it. Of course, this won't matter if I can't get my old stuff into me new iTunes.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod to a computer
The transfer of content from other sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:

    TuneJack Windows Only

    YamiPod Mac and Windows
    Music Rescue Mac & Windows
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows
iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Access Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

is there a way doing that without any complications?

You will not be able to transfer music not purchased from iTunes from your phone to your computer, or any photos that you may have transferred to your phone from your computer (i.e., Photo Library photos) without using 3rd party software such as Touch Copy.  (You may want to re-rip your CDs to your new iTunes library and use an app like PhotoSync to transfer Photo Library photos as a more cost-effective solution.)  After dealing with that, the procedure to follow to establish syncing with your new computer without losing other date is outlined here: https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3141.

  • PC crash--Syncing itunes on new PC

My PC hard drived crashed and I purchased a new PC.  I've loaded Itunes on the new Windows 8 PC.  How do I sync/download all my music/books from my Itunes library to the new PC?  When I plug in my Ipod to this new PC will it sync?

    Hello Mara153,
This is, indeed, a possibility. The following article details how to determine what account was used to purchase the affected music.
Authorize using the correct account name
The items you are trying to play might have been purchased using a different iTunes Store account. To determine which account was used to purchase an item, follow these steps:
Select a purchased song in your library and choose File > Get Info.
Click the Summary tab. Note the Account Name that appears in the list. This is the account name (Apple ID) you will need to use when authorizing your computer to play this purchase.
Note: The account name that appears is the one you used when purchasing the item and does not change if the account name (Apple ID) changes.
If you've authorized the Apple ID that is shown in the Summary tab, you can check the purchase history for that Apple ID from Store > View My Account. If your purchase history does not reflect the purchase of the items in your iTunes library, consider any other Apple ID you may have created, and authorize the computer for your additional Apple ID.
If you forgot the password to one of your accounts, you can recover it using Apple's password-recovery website.

  • Re-syncing after Lost Computer - how do I save applications and info?!

So, I recently lost my computer. I have a new one, but am afraid to sync my iPhone with the new computer for fear of losing my calendar, contacts, and apps. I know I will need to redo the music and photos, but I can't afford to lose the rest. What can I do?

iTunes includes an option to transfer content that was purchased or acquired from the iTunes store from an iPod or iPhone, but this is for content that was purchased or acquired from the iTunes store only.
With your iPhone connected and without syncing, at the iTunes menu bar go to File and select Transfer Purchases From - the name of your iPhone.
As long as you use the same iTunes account, you can re-download all purchased apps and you won't be charged agin.
In regards to contact info and calendar events, the iPhone is designed to be synced with a supported application on your computer. Even though all iTunes content on your iPhone will be erased when syncing your iPhone with a new computer, contact info and calendar events are not erased or affected unless you sync contact info and calendar events with a supported application on your computer.
Windows Windows, this can be with Outlook 2003 or 2007 for contact info and calendar events and for contact info only, with the address book used by Outlook Express with XP or used by Windows Mail with Vista - which is the name change for Outlook Express with Vista. I believe the address book used by OE is called Windows Contacts.
If you will be syncing contact info and calendar events with Outlook 2003 or 2007, enter one contact in the address book and one calendar event in the calendar before syncing - make these up if needed, which can be deleted later. This will provide a merge prompt when syncing this data with Outlook, which you want to select. The same applies if you will be syncing contact info with the address book used by Outlook Express or Windows Mail.
