Original Icons

Hey everyone.
I need some help. I pasted new Icons on my desktop, and now I can't find the original ones. Can anyone please tell me where they are located.
Thx

The original icons are in various places, mostly in the /System/Library/CoreServices folder in the CoreTypes.Bundle and Finder packages. If you just used copy/paste with the GetInfo window, those changes are local to your account and didn't change the system defaults. You can also just find some other file or folder with the default icon and use that, or go to a website such as InterfaceLIFT.

  • Email attachments are changing the original icons to a generic preview icon

When I send or receive an attachment, the original icon such as photoshop is changed to a generic icon called preview which is white with a graphic of a photo and a magnifing loop. How do I stop this?
    thank you!

Just getting ready to post this exact issue. Yes, when I drag a multipage pdf it converts it to a thumbnail jpeg of the file.
I thought my clients were on crack, but they aren't. Seems like the preview format (.png) on the new macs is creating the thumbnail but not actually linking the file.
My work around is to zip the file up and send it, but that isn't an optimal scenerio.
    please advise.

  • Restore original icons?

I had been using Candybar free preview, didn't want to pay the $30, and now, well after the 2 week preview, I cannot restore my original icons. I've tried "command x".  What am I missing?  I have been pouring thru the FAQ's and I'm fed up.  I *will* be upgrading to Mountain Lion, but not just yet, and I'd like to get this issue resolved before the upgrade.  I replace some of my icons with snowflakes and I'm just not feeling them anymore. I do know to highlight the app in finder, "command i" which will let you copy and paste, however, I still need the original icons for that.
    Please help?

Uninstall Candybar for a start. Go to the site and uninstall it as per the developers instructions. Then when you download and install Mountain Lion, it should correct all your icons.

  • Application Folder Icon reverts to original Icon after Restart/Logout...

My custom icon for the applications folder in the Finder window sidebar reverts back to the original icon (pencil, ruler, paintbrush) after I restart/logout. In the "Get Info" pane of the applcation folder it shows the custom icon, but the icon in the sidebar displays the original! I have changed all my other icons in the sidebar and they have retained their custom icons, but Applications is the only one being stubborn.
I have searched the forums, and found an article where it says to log in as root user and then change it, but i did that and the icon still went bact to the original.
If anyone knows how to change it for good please help me.
    Thanks.

The icns file you want is here:
    "/System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle/Contents/Resources/ToolbarAppsFol derIcon.icns"
You'll need to do a Show Package Contents on CoreTypes.bundle to get there. Drag the icns file to your desktop--it will copy rather than move. You'll discover that it is much smaller than normal icons: only 32x32 pixels.
You'll need a program to allow you to create icns files. Iconographer is nice. I believe it has a free trial period.
Create your own icns icon and save it with the same name as the original.
Next you need to use Terminal. You'll rename the original with a mv command, then do a sudo copy of your version into the above Resources folder.
    Still want to try?

I lost the original icon of you tube, it was Installed with the iPad 2 setup.

If you've updated your iPad to iOS 6 then you won't have it anymore, it's not included in iOS 6 - google have a youtube app in the app store which you can download instead.

  • Where are my original icons?

how can i find the original icons

    Hi
The natively installed icons on your Mac are located in various folders in your systems folders and are not in one easy location, nor easily usable for that matter.
What do you want to do?

  • Original Icon Restoration

i recently installed LameSecure to lock my application folder (to avoid tampering from clumsy friends). the program could not work with a folder such as my application folder and deleted the icon it originally had (the ruler with crossed pencil and brush) and replaced it with the average folder icon. is there anywhere i could restore all my icons to their original states?
    -what i've tried
    backspace deleting the new icon
    searching the /user/library/icons folder
    archive reinstalation of OSX
searching the OSX install disks and optional instalations.

Various system icons are located in the /System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle package. You can use Get Info to change the icon of the application folder back to the default, which is located in the /Contents/Resources/ApplicationsFolderIcon.icns file.
If your friends do not have admin access (use a standard account, for example), you don't have to worry about them being clumsy.

  • Publishing AIR file deletes original icon files

I have seeral Flash/AIR projects where I have selected app icons in the AIR Application and Installer Settings dialog. Every time I build the AIR file, the entire directory containing those icon files is deleted. The files correctly end up in the generated AIR file, but how do I keep it from deleting my originals every time?
If it matters, I store the icon images in a subdirectory under where the .fla and accompanying files live, like this:
    MyProject/
        project.fla
        something.as
        project.swf
        AppIconsForAIRPublish/
            icon-128x128.png
            icon-32x32.png
            icon-16x16.png
            icon-48x48.png
Why does it delete the icons and the containing folder after building the .air file, and how can I prevent it?

Another thing I learned is that you might have the icon file embeded in the application somewhere and that removes it from the include in AIR package screen. That shows the same 303 error. See more detalis here : http://spy6.blogspot.com/2009/10/error-creating-air-file-303error-some.html

  • Lost original icon to calculator

I seemed to have lost my icon to the calculator in my applications folder. Instead I get a "standard" icon like the applications icon?!
Have rebooted, repaired permissions using the MacOS CD and removed caches. Any other suggestions out there? The program still works fine but it is a bit annoying.

Just found out how to make your own custom icons and I replaced the icon with a newer, bolder calculator icon using the "info" pane. Guess that the topic was not that hot. Thanks anyway Apple people.

  • Location of Original Snow Leopard/Leopard Icons?

    Hey guys,
Quick question - are copies of the original OS folder icons maintained anywhere inside the OS? Where might those be? I customized my Applications folder, Documents folder, Music, Photos, etc. some time ago and would like to go back to the originals but naturally didn't save them anywhere. Might anyone know where I can find them?
    Thanks.

Select the item you want to restore the default icon for, hit File > Get Info, click the icon you have, and tap delete. The original icon will be restored.

  • Where is the original os x icons???

Hello there ive manged to lose the icons i had for my movie folder and now it is only a blue colour, where do i locate the original icons that come with tiger????

If you are referring to the Movies folder in your home folder, the custom icons for the folder and the Sidebar are automatically assigned by the Finder to the folder inside your home folder named Movies. Capitalization matters! It must be named EXACTLY Movies, and it must have this path:
    "/Users/yourname/Movies"
If you moved it or renamed it, put it back the way it was and restart. Everything should return to normal.
Sometimes the Finder has a memory failure about icons in general. A restart usually brings it back to normal.

  • Returning file thumbnail/icons to their original

i understand that to change the icon/thumbnail of a file i can ctrl click it to get info then paste an image i have previously copied to the icon selected in the top left corner of the get info window and the new icon will appear
for some reason this will not work to reverse it, basically i have a few /mp3 files whose icons should be the itunes mp3 logo (disc and music note) but instead it is something else, is there a way to revert this back to its original icon look?

    help please???

Neil has your solution but I would recommend CandyBar if you like to switch icons a lot. I reviewed it on my blog:

  • Two icons in taskbar?

This problem just started today, I don't know if Skype updated and caused this but anyway: Skype is creating a second icon in the taskbar (Windows . If I'm logged out, the original icon is there, so I click on it to log in, and a "signing in" window pops up, and this creates a second tray icon for some reason. And now I just noticed that for one of my groups, I can either view it with the group picture and listed names, or no group picture and names + user icons. How do I change it to list names without showing the group pic or user icons? I click the i button at the top but it switches between the two views that I don't want.

OS version: Windows 10 Pro After uninstalling Skype a few times trying several possible solutions I finnaly found one. After installing skype, creates a shortcut at the desktop and then runs it. 1. The solution I found was to right click on this shortcut and then pinning it to the task bar. After this you can delete the shortcut in your Desktop if you want. I also thought of another possible solution for those that already deleted the shortcut at the Desktop. 2. - After having the skype pinned in the task bar, open your file explorer and type this C:\Users\<UserName>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\User Pinned\TaskBar in your path bar, replacing <UserName> with your windows username. - The file explorer should now show a set of shortcuts that appear on your task bar. Find the skype shortcut and right click it->Properties choose the Shortcut tab and in the Start in field place "C:\Program Files (x86)\Skype\", including the quotation marks. If this does not solve your problem try uninstalling skype and reinstalling it again then try solution 1. Good luck
