Original Imac mouse lagging and freezing

My original wired Imac mouse is lagging and sometimes freezes. I have very little knowledge so please be specific with a possible solution. If I need to go someplace or type something in, please give me directions. I greatly appreciate it. I do not have a second monitor plugged in.

if it's a wired mouse it's probably a Mighty Mouse. The first thing I'd recommend doing is cleaning the ball. Get a clean sheet of white paper and vigorously  roll the ball on the paper for about 30-40 seconds, this is intended to dislodge any dirt stuck on the ball. If that doesn't do it please do a SMC reset:
SMC RESET
Shut down the computer.
Unplug the computer's power cord and all peripherals.
Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
Release the power button.
Attach the computers power cable.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.

  • Firefox lags and freezes several times in an hour - How to fix?

I've read up on the forums and nothing seems to be describing what I'm experiencing with Firefox.
The last 3-4 days I've had several instances where Firefox lags or completely freezes up when switching between tabs. It will still somewhat work but it's ridiculously slow.
For example, it WILL eventually go to that tab, but it will take a minute, and then nothing on the page will work for a minute, so on and so on. Sometimes a black screen will appear where the text should be. Sometimes it stays black, sometimes the page eventually loads. It was only one website so I thought maybe that page was having issues until today when it started happening on several other websites.
It's happening quite often and it's driving me crazy. I only had an error message once, early on when this started. Since then it just seems to lag and freeze, lag and freeze, over and over without giving me an error message until I get fed up and close out of it. Upon start up again, it works fine for a bit.
I don't use any toolbars. I updated Windows and my drivers. Computer has been restarted several times since this started.
    I'd appreciate any suggestions!

Hello EMA1, try to run [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-using-safe-mode firefox in safe mode], works ?
If firefox in safe mode has the same behavior then, try to boot your win 8 computer in [http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2809468/en-us Windows Safe Mode with network support] and check firefox again. Any luck ?
    thank you

  • MacBook lagging and freezing

I have a MacBook Pro (Late 2011). Processor 2.7 GHz intel Core i7, memory 4GB.
I upgraded it with SSD and instead of CD-ROM I put my old Hard Drive. So now I have two hard drives. New SSD (samsung EVO) and old HDD. I installed OS x on new SSD and it's been running very smooth and fast.
Once, I dropped my mac from the couch and there was a beeping noise like a siren. I turned off the computer, then turned it on and it was working fine. Everything worked fine for 3-4 days.
Then, it started lagging. I constantly have a spinning wheel, macbook freezes, it is impossible to do anything even to write an email. Since I have two hard drives, I was able to boot my mac from the old hard drive and it wasn't lagging. Also, when I tried to access files from SSD it was freezing again. Therefore, I assumed that the problem is with the SSD. I tried reseting SMC , NVRAM, booting in safe mode, repairing hard drive, repairing permissions and stuff like that. NOTHING HELPS!! Also, the SMART status for SSD is Verified. Then I completely erased SSD and decided to reinstall OS x. I installed it, but even while installing I could tell it would be lagging, because it was so slow. And yes, after installation of OS x it lags, freezes and all I see is a spinning ball.
Also, I have another macbook pro. So I was able to take my SSD out and connect to another macbook. When I connected it, it worker perfectly on another macbook. So the issue is not with the SSD. Moreover, I connected the SSD from that macbook to my computer, in order to see if something wrong with other parts(not SSD). When I started my computer with another SSD, it wasn’t lagging or freezing, but I can notice that it is slower then it used to be and sometimes you can see spinning balls. However, it was working better. Booting time was also reduced. Then I tried to swap RAM, it didn’t give me any result.
Also, when I connect my SSD to my macbook it starts lagging and freezing again.
So RAM is not an issue. To summarise, the SSD that I thought is a problem, might not be an only issue. Since it was working perfectly fine on another macbook. Even though another SSD worked fine on my laptop, I could still see that it slower and less productive (spinning wheel). So, the issue might be with something else. And I have no idea what is it might be.

Third party 'cleaning' apps should be avoided.  They will not help and all to often with hurt performance.
I have booted in safe boot and it seems to operate just fine there with no lagging.
That is a sign that you have a third party application that is affecting your system.  Essentially you have to remove all of them and reinstall them individually until you identify the culprit.  Down load Etrecheck and post the result and we may be able to speed up the process if it shows a possible candidate:

  • Why is my ipod touch 5g lagging and freezing in Safari?

Especially when the webpage has pictures/photos/visuals/graphics, Safari lags and freezes hugely and is basically inoperable. I've tried resetting the device (holding home buttona and sleep button at same time until apple logo appears) but doesn't help. What's going on? I'm very dissapointed at Apple.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Go to Settings>Safari and Dlete Cookies, Data and History
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • Why my Firefox keeps lagging and freezing when scrolling on Facebook?

When scrolling through Facebook it keeps lagging and freezing for a few seconds, and when it happens it says "Connecting..." on the tab title. It keeps happening while I'm scrolling in the Facebook page, and if I leave the tab with Facebook working all Firefox looks a little laggy.
I've tried some possible solutions here in the support but it keeps happening.
It doesn't happen with others browser, such as Chrome.

  • Iphone 5s lagging and freezing on ios 8.1.1

Anyone from Apple who can help? Before I throw out my iphone 5s out the window!!! Lagging and freezing came about after updating to IOS 8.1.1, done everything to fix it, hard reset and restore to factory settings included.  Its still the same.. it lags and freezes on everything I do.. wish I could just downgrade it back to 8.0 which I've been told is no longer possible.  The latest IOS update didn't help either.  I think its official, my iphone is now a pieces of worthless crap..

If you did a restore as new and still have issues, it could be a hardware problem.
I would schedule an appointment with the Genius bar and take it in to Apple and have it looked at.
You don't have a hacked or jailbroken device?

  • Mouse Lag and poor performance. Video Card or Power?

Not specifically a FCP question but related. I recently purchased a new rig. Here are the specs.
    2 X 2.93Ghz 6 Core/16GB RAM/ ATI Radeon 5870 video card.
I am having very odd mouse lag problems that are quite annoying. I am also having issues with playing sequences in unlimited RT. A guy in our office can play back better with an quad core. In regards to the mouse problem I have tried several different mouse and keyboard issues including a Wacom tablet and I get the same poor results.
Some people say it could be my video card and some say it could be a dirty power issue. I took the rig back to the store and the tech geek in the back said it worked fine for him but when I showed up with the keyboard and mouse to test it he had boxed up the computer and gone home.
Here is a clip of the screen and the weird jumpy jittery problem I am having.
    http://pdvpro.com/stupid_mac/
You can see the mouse and the window I am dragging freeze for a second even though I am mousing smoothly and continuously. The mouse and keyboard and Wacom tablet work perfectly on my old Dual Core.
    Any ideas?

According to your video, it's happening in Finder, not just FCP,
so it must be something systemwide.
Is there something running in the background, like Spotlight indexing?
System Preferences > Spotlight > Privacy add your disks to be excluded.
Anything else running in the background?
Anything weird connected to your USB?
Also turn off your Airport or any network connection and repeat the test.

Reinstalling Lion Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You can also re-download the Lion installer by opening the App Store application. Hold down the OPTION key and click on the Purchases icon in the toolbar. You should now see an active Install button to the right of your Lion purchase entry. There are situations in which this will not work. For example, if you are already booted into the Lion you originally purchased with your Apple ID or if an instance of the Lion installer is located anywhere on your computer.

  • Mouse jumps and freezes

I have tried to use 2 different cordless USB mice/mouses and both show the same problem.
The cursor jumps to different places on the screen and freezes. It usually freezes for just 1 sec and then jumps, or it just jumps without the freeze.
It is not just now and then but it is more or less impossible to use it.
I also have a apple trackpad which works perfekt.
    I have a late 2012 imac 27"
    i5 3.2 ghz
    1tb HDD
running OS X from an external SSD (256GB)
    16GB ram
    GTX 675MX 1024MB
anyone have a solution for this, I have tried mouse smoother or whatever the program is called, didn't help.

Try adjusting your surface on which the mouse tracks. Use a surface that isn't smooth, reflective, or glossy.

  • IMac loudly whirs and freezes. please help!

I have a 27" iMac purchased November 2009. Have tried searching discussions for help but am unsure what to call the problem as it is so peculiar!
Several times an hour it makes a strange loud whirring noise (which does not appear to be a fan to me as it is not a smooth sound, sounds more like a hard drive 'thinking' possibly?? but I have no idea) and freezes until the noise stops (which generally takes anywhere between 10-30 seconds). Very frustrating as it interupts my workflow and all I can do is wait it out. It does not seem to matter how many/which applications are running. it happens when i have creative suite open but then it also happens if all i have open is chrome!
It is within warranty, however I have no time to take it to be fixed until November as I can't be without it until then, so am hoping someone will have a suggestion to help me out!
I don't know what other information would be helpful, but just in case, it has 4GB of RAM and has a 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor and still has about 775GB of hard drive space free.
would doing a fresh install of my OS help?
any advice you can give me would be appreciated! or point me towards an existing discussion (all i could find were people describing their whirring noise as a buzzing, and mine is definitely not buzzing)

My first thought would be the hard drive, you may not have time to get it check out until November
but think about what you might loose if you don't. Just have a great backup plan for a just
    incase scenario
If its not a harddrive, what ever you have going on is not good, as your aware of, you need to
reevaluate and think about if you lost what you have verses not having access to your files.
I assume you have contacted Apple support on the phone, to see what they might have to say
Its nothing to fool with in my opinion

  • 10.8.3 rendered my MBP to lag and freeze (and other issues)

Okay. I have a Macbook Pro 9,1 (non-retina, Mid-2012).  After installing 10.8.3 through App Store, my computer begins to lag, and it would completely freeze in about 2 hours or so.  It starts with one application 'not responding' and it would spread to other applications.  When I try to Force Quit, that Force Quit window would freeze as well.  None of my keyboard, track pad etc would work. I had to force shut down by holding the Power button.
    I have done the following:
    Restart
Restart with 'Reopen Windows when logging back in' off
    SMC Reset
    PRAM Reset
    Hardware Test
    Disk Permission Repair
    Repair Disk
    Reinstall OS
    Reinstall using COMBO Update
fsck -fy in Single User Mode
I also checked the ~Library/Logs/Diagnostic Log and Uninstalled (with official uninstaller) EyeConnect (who crashed in the background for about 8 times during my 24hrs use of 10.8.3.)
While going through that list, I found issues in kernel_task taking up a lot of RAM (1+ GB in normal mode) (~400 GB in safe mode). The free RAM would also be miniscule just before the multiple freezes I had.
Booting through Safe mode, after about 2 minutes or so after boot, My RAM looks like this:
(No Free Space, Wired taking up 6GB...) The Animation would be very choppy  and I would be using Nvidia Graphics Card (GT-650M) instead of Intel Graphics 4000, when nothing graphic intensive is up.  Some Post floating in the Support Communities also mentioned how the VRAM for Intel Graphics 4000 shrunk from 512MB to 384MB. I think I have the same problem as well.
I've been to Apple Store/Genius Bar Twice: They basically said I should wipe the computer and hope for the best.  They also checked my Hardware, and it seems alright.
I thought of rolling back to 10.8.2 through Time Machine, but for some reasons, my HDD (through Thunderbolt) would not mount when booted from the recovery partition. It's there in Disk Utility, just won't mount. When accessing the HDD through USB 3.0, my most recent back-ups are not present, with the most recent update from March 2nd.  (March 3rd ~ March 18th Missing.)This shouldn't be the case, as I back up multiple times every day. I am also able to view the recent dates through Time Machine ('Enter Time Machine' from the menu bar).
I think the only thing left I could do would be Rolling back to March 2nd or Wiping my computer to factory settings.  Both I'm quite reluctant to do so, for obvious reasons.
Hypothesis on the issue: I think it's the RAM management gone wrong, causing the computer to lag+freeze so much.  I predict the wipe won't help much.  But we won't know what will happen unless we do it, I guess...
Did I mention about the sleep problems I had before 10.8.3? I'll skip those since it's not fatal, but they're not resolved in 10.8.3 as well. I installed 10.8.3 hoping to solve those problems, only to get even more problems Help Please? Thanks!

  • Mac Pro Mouse Lagging and Sound Skipping

My Mac Pro 1's mouse is lagging and the sound is stuttering.
I took it into the Apple store and they ran all the tests and had it pinned to a RAM issue and a graphics card issue.
I upgraded the graphics card to the ATI Radeon 5770 and upgraded the RAM then. It has a new hard drive in it, and is running snow leopard as well. All of this has improved it, but it is still creating the same problems.
What is left to be done?

You should absolutely contact Apple immediately. This does not sound like trivial problem and is probably indicative of an imminent total failure.

  • IMac picture pixilated and freezes up on start up.

When I start my iMac it seems to start ok at first, then the screen gets pixilated and freezes up.  Some times I can get further in the start up process than others. I did just update to OS 10.10.3.

  • IMac kernel panics and freeze

My iMac is one year old and has worked fine but two days ago my iMac G5 (w/ iSight) started crashing and the kernel panic message comes up. So when I force restart I get to the log on screen and then the mouse freezes. Sometimes, I am able to log on but then about 5 minutes later the mouse will freeze again. This has been an endless cycle for these past two days. Luckily, I am using my iMac G4.
I tried resetting the PRAM and PMU, but it didn't work.
I tried installing the 10.4.9 combo but it didn't work either.
My computer doesn't fall under the repair extension program.
I don't know what the problem is :[

    Hi
I am not sure if this is where I should put this, but, looked up kernel panics - yours is the most recent one! I had one today, and had not had one for years...
So - here it goes - I'll copy and paste...
I haven’t had a kernel panic for years – but today I did.
    Here’s what happened:
On the internet at the school where I work. Just had Mail open – nothing else. Went to shut down, and the panic thing showed. I pushed and held restart, and it just shut down, and did not restart.
When I got home tonight, it started, said that OSX had quit unexpectedly – and I had the choice to report or not. I clicked report, but nothing happened. So I am posting this as suggested in Mac OS X: How to Log a Kernel Panic
    Thanks.
