Original iPad black screen spinning

I still have my original ipad and it is stuck on the black screen with a spinner. I tried pressing the two buttons which will show a black screen with an apple but then revert back to the black screen with a spinner. I tried connecting it to my Macbook Pro and kept getting the error "itunes could not connect to this ipad. could not save the pairing record'
any ideas or is it dead?

Hey there livvylove2000,
It sounds like your iPad keeps getting to this screen with the spinning wheel on it and you cannot even restore it. Resetting the device by holdign the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons is where I would have started as well. Next I would put the iPad into Recovery Mode with this article, to see if that then allows the iPad to be restored and used again:
If you can't update or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
To put your device into recovery mode, follow these steps:
Turn off your device and leave it off.
Plug in your device's USB cable to a computer with iTunes.
Hold down the Home button on your device as you connect the USB cable. Keep holding down the Home button until you see the Connect to iTunes screen.
When you see this screen, release the Home button. If you don't see this screen, try steps 1 through 3 again.
When your device is connected, iTunes will open. You'll see a message saying that iTunes has detected an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch in recovery mode.
Use iTunes to restore your device. Restoring in recovery mode will erase your device. If you previously synced with iTunes or iCloud, you might be able to restore from your backup.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
All the best,
Sterling

bummer. *Note that if you are actually running iOS 5.1.1, that's it for the iPad 1st Gen.

  • Ipad: black screen when battery has charge

Some months ago, somebody walked on my friend's ipad 2 (model A1395 16GB) and broke the digitizer. The ipad was working with the touchscreen broken. It was then left untouhed for 2 or 3 months. My friend learned that I know a bit about electronics and computer and was capable and willing to help do a straight digitizer swap. She then bought the kit online and I have replaced the digitizer for her.
    The problem now is this:
    - when the battery is empty and I plug the ipad in the mains and press the home button, the screen shows for a few seconds, in the middle on a blue background, the empty battery with 3 red lines at the bottom. So the screen is woring, OK?
    - wrong! When I come back after having waited for the battery to charge (wether it is 30 minutes, 2 hours or 24 hours), pressing the home the first time give me a kind of explosion or passing wave of light on the screen, lasting less than a second, then the screen stays black. No matter how many times I press the home button afterwards, the backlights light up but the screen remains black.
    - after reading a few forums, I have tried the "spanking" method, or the way I do it it is the "light tapping" method, getting progressively stronger but always controlled (it's not my ipad). Of all the sisty or seventy taps I must have made at different times, I got a result only once: for 1 or 2 seconds I saw a screen (I think blue but can't be certain) with a turning circle in the middle. I think it was a circle made of dashes but I can't be sure, it was so brief! It was definitely animated though!
I don't screen the screen is broken, because it displays perfectly the empty battery logo.
What could happens that means the screen does not display when the battery is charged? Has anybody got any ideas?

    Hi Skydiver,
so is there a different circuit for power when the batteries are not working?  I am just wondering why the screen work in that instance.
It seems as if we should have sent the ipad back to Apple straight away. It seems simple enough to change the digitizer though...
Should I try now to change the battery? We seem to have nothing to loose.

  • HT201412 ipad black screen and nonresponsive

I was using my ipad when the screen froze for a few seconds and then it scrambled and went black. It appears to still be on but will not respond to anything. I even tried plugging it in to itunes. The on/off button does not work.

    Have you tried a reset:
Hold the Sleep and Home button down for about 10 second until you see the Apple logo.

  • Dropped ipad black screen

Dropped my iPad from bottom drawer- not more than a foot. Now will not turn on. Slight blue/black light showing, but blank screen.  Anything I can do other than taking in to repair?

You could try a reset and see if that makes any difference : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot. If that doesn't work then yes, you will probably need to contact Apple

  • Mini ipad black screen and wont start even after reset

My mini ipad went black. I tried pressing power button and home button simultaneously for more then 10 seconds and didn't work. Tried plug onto a charger for more then 10 minutes also didn't work. Tried both simultaneously also didn't work. Thanks for any assistance. Btw, my check with apple websites said the mini ipad is no longer under warranty.

I understand that your device will not power on and you have some troubleshooting steps with the issue persisting.  There are just a couple more steps that I could recommend in the article below.

  • HT204291 Airplay w iPad , Black screen on TV worked , fine yesterday?

Will not mirror tv screen goes black when mirroring is turned. Work fine yesterday.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Try the following steps, check whether things are working after each step where appropriate, before trying the next.
Check AirPlay is turned on on the Apple TV (turn it off and on if it already is)
Check that both devices are on the same network (Settings > Wifi, on the mobile device and Settings > General > Network, on the Apple TV).
Restart the Apple TV (Settings > General > Restart).
Restart the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
Restart your router. (Also try removing it’s power cord for at least 30 seconds)
    Restart your mobile device.

  • Ipad black Screen display problem?

Having a problem today. My iPad fell off my desk (with its case on) and when I picked it up & tried to unlock it i was completely black. I connected it to itunes and did a reset but it's still black it actually talks now and any kind of display or the apple logo appears very briefly (like a second or less) but disappears ?

You could always try the general steps of restarting, resetting, and then trying to restore but Im thinking that this is most likely a hardware issue so you'd be better off visiting an Apple Store first to see what a Genius rep thinks it could be.

    HI,
    Reset iPad.
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appear

  • My iPad 2 just stopped playing videos. The original comes with the iPad video icon opens with a blank black screen and does not repond. I have shut all apps, shut the computer down, but no good. Where to from here?

My iPad just stopped playing videos. The original app that comes with the iPad opens with a blank black screen. I have shut all apps, and the shutdown the co ad, but no effect. Where to from here?

Try searching for the name of one of your videos on the iPad's spotlight search screen - swipe your first homescreen to the right, type in it's name, and if it finds it tap on it to see if it plays.
If that doesn't work then I normally suggest closing the Videos app via the taskbar and re-opening it, and then a reset by pressing and holding both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds unilt the Apple logo should appear - but as it sounds like you've alreadt tried that, then see if the spotlight search works.

  • Black screen with spinning wheel on startup

I have a Mac Pro 1,1 (bought in Dec 2007)
    Dual-Core Intel Xeon
    2.66 GHz
    9gb of ram
    2TB HD
    I'm running 10.6.8.
My computer froze while in Safari and after shutting it down with the power button, I started it up again and I first get the apple logo with the gears and then the screen goes black with just the spinning beach ball.
I can boot in safe mode.
I've booted from a Snow Leopard disc and ran Disc Utilities and the HD was verified and "appears to be ok". (Also ran a repair permissions)
I've run the extended Hardware Test and everything is fine there too.
    I've reset the PRAM/NVRAM.
I've unpluggest all extrernal drives and peripherals and still, the black screen on start up.
From what I can discern from some other posts, this might be a graphics card issue...? I still have the original
NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT in my machine.
I've tried rebooting a dozen times and mostly I get the black screen, but a couple of times it's also been stuck on a gray screen.
The last few reboots have been black. Would really apprciate any feedback. Thank you.

Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:
Reinstall OS X without erasing the drive
    1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed with reinstalling OS X.  Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files.  After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.
