Original ipad crashes routinely

My iPad 1 crashes several times a day.  It can be while browsing with Safari, playing words with friends or using any other app.  In other words, mostly doing anything.  Have tried all of the regularly suggested things......closing all apps, clearing cache, have even restored to original settings several times.  I have the latest iOs.  From the laymens view, this certainly seems like an Apple built in obsolesence plan.....get them to buy the latest and greatest.  And I am an Apple fan.....have bought lots of their products over the years and have a substantial stock position with them as well.  (Have ridden it up and now back down :(.... But I still believe in them).
Do you think they could take care of this very common problem that lots of people have?  Come on Tim, fix this.
Don

An update from the Genius Bar.  After they listened to the problem, they tapped into my iPad via their iPad and ran some type of diagnostic program.  Supposedly no firmware issues found.  They did see about 5 apps that routinely show crash records.  After I told them I had already done a complete 'restore to new' and then re-installed apps from a backup on iTunes, they suggested that they do a complete wipe in the store, and then re-load copies of all apps from the App Store instead of through iTunes.  Logic was if those apps were corrupt, the backups from iTunes were likely corrupt as well.
Currently in the process of doing all of that now.  No crashes yet.  Will give an update in severals days after all are installed and things are supposedly back to normal.
P.s - there was NO pressure to buy a new unit, despite my wife indicating she WANTS a new mini.

  • Skype on Original iPad Crashes on Login

I have an original iPad (64GB RAM, running iOS 5.1.1) that I've been using for years as a VOIP phone that sets next to my desptop.  Two days ago (12/09/2014), Skype started crashign on login.  No updates were applied that I'm aware of.  I've deleted Skype and re-installed (as expected, the App Store asks if I want to use an older version) it.  I've even reset the iPad twice (once in recovery mode), reistalled Skype from the App Store both times, and it still quits on login.
    Any ideas/suggestions?

  • The original ipad crashed March 2013. Bought 4th G iPad same happens. What to do?

The title says it all. I noticed last year this crashing  in March I assumed it was the age of the Ipad. I did nothing because I knew I was getting a new one well before then Bought a new one in December and the same is happening. I have seen the suggestions which don't seem to work. Where is the best place to complain?

What suggestions have you tried ?
If you haven't already done so try removing any all-day events from the calendar for the 1st April 2013 e.g. if you are syncing the calendar from somewhere else (e.g. Outlook on a PC or iCal/Calendar on a Mac) then change it to a timed event instead of all-day (if you don't sync your calendar from anywhere then try going into list view, go to 1st April and change any 'all day' events to times e.g. change Easter Monday to start at something like 4am) - it seems that there is a problem with all day events on that date which is when the clocks change due to daylight saving on the day before.

  • Why Does iBooks on My Original iPad Keep Crashing Every Time I Try to Access Highlight and Notes?

I made 300 page book in iBooks Author and added it as a preview/proof within iBooks on a original iPad with the most up-to-date software. I was able to read the whole book, highlight sections and take notes. In the beginning, I could access them, but now that I've finished the book I can no longer. Whenever I click on the Notes button the whole app crashes. Nothing shows up under Table of Contents or Bookmarks, even though the book has highlights and notes all over it. Quitting the app from the multi-task bar and restarting the iPad haven't helped. The book won't sync with my iPhone because it's from iBooks Author, so I can't try it there. I even tried Bookmarks Extractor and my notes didn't come up. And there's no share option like there is for purchased books. Help! I need them!

  • I have the original iPad. It is crashing often. What can I do? It is updated as far as possible.

My original iPad, updated to the max, is crashing often. What can I do?

If the crashing is restricted to Safari then you are probably just encountering bugs in Safari. Naturally, if you regularlly visit sites which expose these bugs you will have a lot of crashes. Perhaps, if you regularly terminate Safari and restart it, this will minimize the inconvenient crashes. Minimizing the number of open Tabs can also help. Periodically clearing Cookies and History in Settings > Safari might also help.
You could try using one of the other iPad browsers out there to see if it gives you better stability.

  • IPad original constantly crashing. Want to completely re-install OS.

My original iPad has been constantly crashing. I'm using iOS 5.0. I was at the Apple Store recently on another matter and the Genius there said I should re-install the OS from scratch but *not* do a restore. She said I should do everything manually, including re-installing all apps by hand. And only then should I restore data from the cloud.
Just want to confirm that I understood her correctly. Is this the correct way to proceed? If so, what's the outline of steps to take?

Well, here's the unfortunate update from 6 days later. I wiped the iPad and only had iTunes update the firmware and the OS. Then, with nothing else installed, I tried out Safari. It crashed and burned. It was also sluggish and suffering from major latency...just like before.  Not good.
Then, I installed a fresh copy of Netflix from the App Store. Tried to use the seach box. Typed a few characters and (just like before) it crashed and burned.  So, the 2 litmus test apps I used to diagnose my initial problem didn't pass even the simplest smoke test on a newly paved iPad.
This can mean only 2 things: either my iPad is hosed in some way (bad memory maybe) or perhaps the original iPads are just not happy with iOS 5.0 or 5.1.
I'm not going to sit here and bash Apple, either. I'm an Apple fan boy *AND* a Windows fan boy. I love both platforms and do development work on both. But Apple has a reputation for coming out with new software that isn't compatible with earlier hardware platforms. That's how they do business, and it's what keeps them innovating. Microsoft tries to stay compatible with older platforms for as long as possible, and Microsoft hasn't innovated in years. It is what it is.
One of my memory tools for the iPad shows that after starting Safar and Netflix, I have less than 5 mb of RAM left on the system. Now, you don't need a CS degree to know that 5 megs of free RAM only *any* system is a recipe for disaster. I just don't think the old iPad version 1.0 was designed with multitasking in mind.
Any other suggestions would be appreciated. But at this point, I've already reinstalled everything from scratch using my backup so at least I haven't lost all of my personall settings. The iPad still crashes all the time, and I deal with it by trying not to run more than one app at a time. I guess Apple really wants me to "upgrade" to an iPad version 3.0...

After running the 7.0.4 update on my original iPad Mini, now the device crashes / reboots randomly when I use it.

I'm having the same problem with my ipad w/ retina display. Updated to 7.0.4 on Thursday or Friday and since last night been experiencing blue screen and random restarts.
Until recently it seemed to be linked only to the 'clash of clans' app, but now it is happening on the App Store too.
I contacted apple this morning, after an unsuccessful attempt at complete restore and set up as new ipad. They advised to restore a pervious back up and delete the clash of clans game. Did this, and now I'm getting problems elsewhere which suggests it isn't a compatibility issue with the OS and game.
Also in the same boat as you as I got it on November 2nd, launch day, and out of warranty by 2 weeks. Hopefully they can sort this either by fixing a bug in the OS or repairing my device as it's served me well with no issues for the past 12 months.

  • Original iPad Lags, App Store Crashes after update. Suggestions to fix?

    Hi,
I have this Original iPad running 5.1.1 and have been facing problems since software update. It had the best of iOS experience prior to the update and now the problems I face have been listed below.
    1. Whole thing lags which includes the interface to switch screens.
    2. App crashes including App Store.
Suggestions or Solutions to have this rectified to Apple's well known user experience will be of great help to me.
    Thanks
    Prashanth

Well being as the app store on the iphone is a big no no right now, because installing apps or updating them tends to corrupt the data. I wouldn't worry. The apps corrupt date leads to the dreaded extremely long never ending backup issue.
Have you tried a restore in iTunes to fix the problem?

  • Running ios5.1.1 on original iPad. system constantly crashes and returns to home page when on the web. using safari.

Running IOs 5.1.1 on original Ipad. System constantly crashes returning to the home screen when in internet. Using Safari browser. is there anything I can upgrade or clear to help??

There are a few things that you could try. First try clearing Safari's cache : Settings > Safari > Clear Cookies And Data and also Clear History
If that doesn't work then try closing Safari completely and then re-open it : from the home screen (i.e. not with Safari 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Safari app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
A third option is a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • HT1665 There is a bug in the spellchecking functionality when typing in the web view or while using Blogsy App. Why? Why my IPad crashes so often?

There is a bug in the spellchecking functionality when typing in the web view or while using Blogsy App. Why? Why my IPad crashes so often?

I have always found spell check to be "buggy" in every version of all of the iOS's that I have run on my original model iPad and my new iPad - especially when replying and typing posts in these forums. It works perfectly in every other application on my iPad but it has never worked perfectly in any web browser that I have used on my iPad - no matter what I have done to try to correct it. That is what MY experience has been with spell check on my iPads.
As for the crashes on your iPad try these basic troubleshooting steps.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
Quit all apps and restart. Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Quit/close open apps by double tapping the home button and the task bar will appear with all of you recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner to close the apps. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.

  • HT4623 My 5.1.1. 28.6 Gb IPad crashes about every 5 minutes or so it doesn't matter what I am doing, whether it is fully charged, plugged in or needing a charge.  It is the first version, is it possible I need to replace it?

I have had my iPad for several years and recently it has started crashing for no reason, I am wondering if I need to replace it of if there is a fix. It doesn't matter if it has a full charge or if the charge is low. I have noticed that the battery does not hold a charge for very long now so maybe the battery is going bad? Any thoughts?

It's possible that the battery needs to be replaced. If you bought one of the original iPads, it could be close to four years old now so the battery might be bad.
Have you tried any basic troubleshooting steps? Sometimes closing Apps and resetting the device can help. Clearing Safari wouldn't be a bad idea either.
    Go to Settings>Safari>Cookies and Data.
In order to close all apps, Tap the home button once. Then tap the home button twice and the recents tray will appear at the bottom of the screen. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button twice.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
Apple has has a battery replacement policy that you can look into. I would make an appointment at an Apple Store and ask a Genius to look at your iPad and see if he/she can recommend something different or maybe even restore the device for you to get it back to good running condition again.

  • I have an original iPad running 5.1.1.  It has started throwing me out of safari to the point it is now unusable.  Have tried everything including full restore but problem persists?

I have an original iPad running 5.1.1.  It has started throwing me out of safari to the point it is now unusable.  Have tried everything including full restore but problem persists?

    Try a few things:
First, try double tapping the home button. You should see a row of apps at the bottom; these are your recenty opened apps. Hold your finger down on any of the icons until they start to shake, and a red minus() appears. Tap the red minus for each app. This will close the app, not delete it. If you have too many apps open, this can cause crashes.
If it still crashes, try the basic troubleshooting steps here:

  • Ipad crashes multiple times a day

I've had my Ipad for about 2 years now but am experiencing problems in that it crashes multiple times a day. It often happens during playing games, but also with opening Safari, other apps or even acessing the App store. I downloaded a system monitor app and memory use is in the 90%s even with no apps open. This is probably the cause, I suspect but how do I fix it?
It is on the latest iOS and has 32 gb of which about half is used and the rest is available.

    I assume it's a Original iPad.
    1. Double-click the Home button to close all Inactive Apps in Task Bar
    2. Hold the Apps down for a second or two until you see the minus sign
    3. Tap the minus sign to close App
    4. Tap center of screen to return to Home Screen
    5. Reset iPad. Hold the Sleep and Home button down for about 10 second until you see the Apple logo. Ignore the red slider

I Cannot configure mailaccount. iPad crashes as soon as i tap email, contacts and calendar in "instellingen"

While sync with Link should work it is buggy and is an afterthought to the whole BB10 system. I recommend using an Outlook.com account, installing the Hotmail connector in Outlook, and then syncing the Outlook.com contacts and calendar to the BB10 device. I say Outlook.com because it uses Exchange Active Sync which is the most reliable sync to the device.
I used to sync with Link as well but the Outlook.com wireless sync really is far better.
As for the original question I don't know why it's not recognized. i see this reported on the forums all the time.
