Original iPhone just stolen so upgrading to iPhone 4; question

Apple website says bring my old iPhone to Apple store to get an upgrade. Will I just suffer a new 2 year contract with new data plan? Or something far more sinister since I no longer physically have the old iPhone? I have checked my usage and see monthly max has been 500MB so will downgrade to 2GB and save the $10/month.

Not sure why you are instructed to bring your existing iPhone to the Apple store for a new iPhone purchase at AT&T's fully subsidized or discounted price or otherwise. It isn't an exchange, and the SIM card being used with the iPhone if you still had it and were using it is not required to activate a new iPhone. A new iPhone ships in the U.S. with a new SIM card pre-installed.
This is not required so I would ignore it.

  • Selling original iPhone - procedure questions

Hello, I recently switched from the original iphone to a Droid X and Verizon. I now would like to sell my original iphone, but I have a few questions.
    *_So far I have:_*
Ported my phone number over to the droid x (verizon)
Canceled my at&t account and received my final bill
Did a full data reset (Settings/general/reset/erase all content and settings)
Removed my phone number from the phone (Settings/Phone/My Number - cleared my number and entered in a + and hit save. My number now does not show on the phone or in itunes)
Did a network reset (Settings/general/reset/reset network settings)
    Reboot
Now when I turn the iphone on it says waiting to activate.
    Questions:
    1) Is there anything else I need to do to remove all my personal data and old at&t account settings?
    2) In itunes, do I need to do: deauthorize this computer?
    3) Once I sell the iphone, what does the person buying it need to do to activate it and sign up with at&t?
    4) Is there anyway the person buying it would be able to activate an account in my name, which obviously I don't want? (is the phone still tied to me somehow)?
Any answers you can provide will be much appreciated. Thanks.

    1) Is there anything else I need to do to remove all my personal data and old at&t account settings?
Using the erase all content and settings option on the iPhone does exactly as provided and is a secure erase except for the firmware/OS and included apps, so there is nothing else you need to do.
    2) In itunes, do I need to do: deauthorize this computer?
Only if you no longer plan on using this computer with your iTunes account with iTunes, which does not require an iPhone.
    3) Once I sell the iphone, what does the person buying it need to do to activate it and sign up with at&t?
If they will be a new AT&T subscriber, they will need to get a new SIM card from a local AT&T corporate store to activate the iPhone which can be done at the AT&T store or with iTunes on their computer. If they are an existing AT&T subscriber, they should be able to use their existing SIM card being used with another phone or get a new SIM card from a local AT&T corporate store to activate the iPhone with their line/number with iTunes.
    4) Is there anyway the person buying it would be able to activate an account in my name, which obviously I don't want? (is the phone still tied to me somehow)?
    No.

  • After upgrading to a new 3GS, my original iPhone won't activate...

After I upgraded to an iPhone 3GS, I restored the original iPhone with iTunes. Now, the iPhone says it's got an invalid SIM in it, and when I plug it into iTunes, it won't activate it. It's basically a brick now.
Was I wrong in thinking I could now use the old iPhone basically like an iPod touch?

I haven't seen any press release that supercedes that, but the one you reference refers to the ORIGINAL iPhone, not a 3G. There have been posts here and elsewhere indicating that the restore/upgrade function no longer works on the 3G once you update to 3GS.
I suppose the original poster can put a phone call in to AppleCare to see if they might be able to get some help from them. I didn't make this rule, I am just reporting what everyone else is seeing, with or without the SIM card in the 3G.

  • Need to sync/backup original iPhone, so I can upgrade to a 3GS...

Please help. I need to sync/backup an original iPhone, so I can switch to a 3GS. My question has a few parts.
    1. Should I get the latest iTunes version? Does it even support the original iPhone? Or should I try to sync with my current version?
    2. I realize the original is being phased out, but I just need to back it up, without losing everything, so I can upgrade. What is the simplest way to do this?
    3. Is my situation even do-able? (I live nowhere near an Apple Store for help)
    Thanks so much!!

    Hi Roger
    Thank you for your reply.
    My original feed is: http://casa-egypt.com/feed/
However, because I modified the feed http://feeds.feedburner.com/imananddinasbroadcast and nothing changed, I redirected it to another feed and then I deleted this feed.
Is there any way to change the feed in itunes? The only feed I have now is  http://feeds.feedburner.com/CasaEgyptStation
I tried to restore the feed http://feeds.feedburner.com/imananddinasbroadcast but feedburner refused.
I know that I missed things up but I still have hope in working things out.
    Thanks is advance.

  • Best way to upgrade from original iPhone to 3Gs?

I've got an original iPhone that's having some problems which may make me get a 3Gs.
I'm looking for suggestions, tips, advice on things to consider when making the switch. Will the iTunes backup be sufficient to keep all my data, apps, contacts, calendars and everything else?
    Any input is appreciated.

Couple things I'd add to what's already posted...
    1) Over the several upgrades I've done from 2G to 3G to 3GS for some reason I've found that not upgrading from a back up seems to give me a better end result...obviously the choice is yours...but if you have synced all data like calendars contacts email etc with a MAC or PC that will just be transferred back during your first sync then no harm in starting fresh with a clean copy of the 3.1.2 OS and then adding all data on...
    2) When you upgrade, make sure you're using the very latest versions of iTunes...then make sure that ALL apps are up to date on BOTH iTunes AND iPhone BEFORE you sync for first time...for some reason I've found folks, myself included having issues with authorization and apps not transferring and most times it was due to the entire app library not being up to date on both sides before the upgrade...

  • Upgrading from Origina iPhone to iPhone 3G

So as my title states I'm thinking of upgrading, I've had my OG iPhone for quite a while and after playing with a buddy's 3G phone I think I'm hooked. I'm just wondering if it is as simple as buying the phone and plugging into iTunes or what. Also I'm wondering if theres a required change in phone plans. Any help is appreciated, maybe this is easier than I am making it out to be.
    Thanks in advance,
    Anthony

the best thing about upgrading is if you ever crack your screen it's ALOT cheaper to fix! my husband cracked the screen on the original iPhone. the only problem was that the LCD and the Lens are connected so you have to replace both. However, on the 3G iPhone, the Lens and LCD are separate. So if you crack your screen, all you have to do is replace the Lens instead of both parts (LCD's are alot more expensive!). When I cracked my screen on the 3G iPhone, i mailed it in to a repair center called Dr. Cell Phone. they fixed it for $99 and sent it back to me on the same day. good service. here's their website just in case any of you already have that problem (hopefully not!): www.drcellphone.com

  • Original Iphone Running Slow with 2.0 Upgrade?

After upgrading to the new software update 2.0, my original Iphone seems to be running slower than previously. This includes switching from applications, moving screens and even typing a simple note or text. Anyone else having this issue? If so, anyone have a quick fix on this? And yes, I have restarted the Iphone with no luck as well.

I think Apple is having massive issues with this whole "upgrade". In my opinion it has to do with the fact that applications can't run in the background (like most other real smartphones on the planet). I took my first generation iPhone into the store for this issue; the slowness progressed to the point that the entire phone crashed routinely requiring a full restore at least once every 3 days and several restarts a day. I had to restore my phone about 6 or 7 times a week.
I went into the store and they had a pile of 1st generation iPhones sitting there. Rather than go through the standard checklist of things that might be wrong, the Apple rep just handed me a new one and said that the new one should solve the issue. Three other customers were in there for the exact same reason; i overheard the rep tell one upset customer that it has to do with memory overload and that the memory module will eventually crash; hence the need for a new phone.
Going through this whole experience made me realize what an idiot i was to ditch my Curve for this garbage. I am waiting for the Blackberry Bold to be released and then i am ditching this paper-weight. Oh, and the new iPhone is even worse and is currently in restore mode as i write this.
Note to Apple; please continue to deny that you made a crappy product and continue to blame your issues on developers and the consumer. I am sure that business users like myself will be going back to RIM as soon as they can.
Advice to Business Apple iPhone Users; Sell your iPhone on ebay to some moron who is interested in playing Monkeyball and get a real business device that actually pushes email and doesn't crash three times a day.

  • Original iPhone 2.0 Upgrade:  Where did all my memory go?

Upgraded my original iPhone to 2.0 last night. Now I have absolutely no memory. My 8.0 of memory is consumed by 5.51 GB of "other." Have erased all my photos and everything else I can ... have reset the iPhone ... nothing works. Could it be that the new "Contacts" application is eating up all my memory? I am also having all sorts of syncing problems with my address book and calendar, but that can wait for another day. Help!

That's just an error that sometimes happens. Reading that much "other" must be an error and can only be fixed by doing a restore in iTunes. No one could possibly download over 5 gigs of apps. Restore it in iTunes by making sure it does a backup and then restore from that backup. If you still have the problem, you'll need to restore it as a "new phone." And if THAT doesn't fix it, your only other option is to take it back and get a replacement.

my iphone 5 was just stolen and i dont have the find my phone app or any other tracking app installed previously. how can i locate my device?? please help

If you didn't set up Find My iPhone in the iCloud settings, then you can't. Notify the police and change the password to your Apple ID and any other online services you used from that iPhone, just as a precaution.

i bought my iphone 4 about a year ago and just decided to upgrade it to ios5 just recently. My phone restored to to its factory settings and when I clicked continue restore from back up it is now asking a backup password which i dont remember setting up one. I am currently using a windows vista PC. How can I retrieve the password or restore all my old data into the new OS. I have been reading blogs about the same situation and is it true that it is one of apple's bugs?

It is NOT a bug.  You provided a password.  If you can't remember it, you can't restore your phone from backup.  Very simple.

  • After 2.0 Upgrade original iPhone WiFi unstable and not connecting

I upgraded my original iPhone (8GB) to OS 2.0. I had some issues getting it upgraded with "problems accessing the iTunes Store" but once thoese resolved seemed ok. Even bought and synced Super Monkeyball.
I now notice that in my home where I have two airports (old G Extreme and a G Express) neither will connect to the iPhone for more than a few seconds and for the most part the phone doesn't see them.
Anyone have this issue and any suggestions for resolving?

Hi Menk - do me a favor will you? Go into Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > and then scroll down to "Calendars". Question: How many sub-functions do you see?
After I did the upgrade, I have two sub-functions. I look at the same path on a 3G iPhone, and see they have three. The 3rd sub-function is "Calendar Type". Do you have that on your upgraded iPhone?
Also, when you are in the Calendar apps, on the top left hand corner. do you have a "Calendar" button? I don't have one after my upgrade but I see that 3G does.
Look forward to hear from you ...

  • I have an Original iPhone & my iTunes was Stolen

I need advice. I have an original iphone and until a few months ago it was synced up with iTunes on my MacBook. My MacBook was stolen and that is where my iTunes was stored. What do I do? My backup is now gone and if I plug it into another iTunes won't I lose all my data and songs? Help! I'm frustrated because I can't add music.

Your external drive used for backing up the important data on your MacBook including your iTunes library on your MacBook was stolen also?
iTunes includes an option to transfer iTunes content purchased/downloaded from the iTunes store from an iPod or iPhone, but this is for iTunes content that was purchased/downloaded from the iTunes store only.
First you need to authorize the computer you plan on using with your iTunes account with iTunes. With your iPhone connected and without syncing, at the iTunes menu bar go to File and select Transfer Purchases From - the name of your iPhone. If all 3rd party apps don't transfer, you can re-download the apps with iTunes on the computer and you won't be charged again for a purchased app as long as you use the same iTunes account to re-download the app that was used to purchase the app originally.
