Original iPhone not Fully Registering in iTunes

Have the original iPhone (AT&T).
Have not connected to my computer/iTunes in months.
Attempted to connect it today and was hit with iTunes needs updating, proceeding with the updates, should be the newest iTunes running.
When I connect the iPhone it shows up in the LEFT sidebar in the DEVICES section.  Although it simply says iPhone for the name.  It attempts to SYNC, but appears to not do anything, this process takes all of about 3 seconds perhaps, unusual.  At that point, the MAIN screen to the RIGHT simply says 'iPhone'.  None of the information that is typically there or was there in the past is present.  It's simply blank.
As for the actual phone.  It's working and appears fine.  One thing I will note is that the iPhone over the past few months has had issues staying connected to a WiFi that prior it had zero issues staying connected to in the past.  Otherwise, the phone seems to be doing fine.
Any ideas?

Followed troubleshooting for "iPhone not found in devices" iTunes and that did not work...  Now what?

That's what I tried. The 6 steps and I do not have security software on my phone. iTunes on my Mac is still giving me the warning that I need to download the latest version on my phone, and is not recognizing it in devices, which is the irony because that's what I need to actually update it

  • Original iPhone not able to connect in iTunes

I got my original iPhone out for my son to use for music and games today. I was able to sync and back it up without issue. However, when i was trying to update the software something happened. I wasn't sitting at my computer so I'm not sure what. Now I have a wiped phone. In trying to get it to sync back up with iTunes it does appear under 'Devices' but it won't connect and only provides me an option to Eject. No restore, etc.
I don't need the info on the phone (I already got the pictures), but I would like to be able to sync my music and add some new games on to it.
Any help in getting this working would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, miless. Good idea. The problem is I can't get into the phone. It's wiped clean at this point. I just deleted the backup file for this phone thinking that was part of the problem also.

  • Why does my iPhone not show up in iTunes on a mac that has a shared internet connection from another mac?

I have what I would consider a difficult question. I called Apple Care and after she spoke to a senior advisor, the representative ended up saying it wasn't possible.
Having said that, I'm sure this is not a difficult question for people with networking expertise.
    Setup
So...I have a MacBook receiving a WiFi signal via AirPort.
In System Preferences, I have turned on Internet sharing (share airport over Ethernet).
I connected the Ethernet port on my MacBook to the Ethernet port on my MDD PowerMac G4.
At this point, I can successfully browse the web, perform software updates, and view other computers and iTunes libraries on my network from my G4.
    Goal
However, in iTunes on my G4 I would like to use iTunes DJ.
    Tried
    So...I click on iTunes DJ.
I set the settings (button in bottom right) to allow guest remotes, etc.
I turned on iTunes Home Sharing (logged into the same account as by iPhone).
    Problem
However, from the Remote app on my iPhone, I am unable to see the library on my G4.
Also, if I want to pair my iPhone Remote app with iTunes on my G4, I click add Library in the Remote app, but iTunes on the G4 never displays my iPhone in the left column (although I am able to see all other iTunes libraries being shared on the network).
Thus, I cannot connect to iTunes as a guest Remote, nor can I connect as paired remote.
I have successfully done both of these things with computers connected directly to my modem, as well as with computers connected via WiFi.
The problem is connecting devices to computers that get their internet connection though another computer via internet sharing.
    Question
So my question is about Internet sharing itself. Is it not a fully featured ad-hoc network? Does it only provide browsing capabilities and the ability to browse networked computers, but NOT devices such as an iPhone? I don't see the difference; my iPhone is on the same network as the computers, so why is there no communication between it and computers that gain their Internet connection through another computer?
I really hope someone out there who is an expert in networking can help me out with this. Or if it truly is impossible, if someone could explain to me why that is the case, I would also appreciate it.
ps. I usually have my MacBook sharing its Internet connection through an old router that I am using as a switch because I share the connection with three other computers. And if it isn't obvious, the modem is downstairs, and the MacBook, old router being used as a switch, and other computers are upstairs where there is no Ethernet wired.
Thank you in advance for any help.

  • IPhone not being recognized by iTunes

My iPhone is not being recognized by iTunes. I have iPhone original version with the latest software OS update. The phone was reset because of unrelated problems, and I need to connect to iTunes for it be operational! iTunes 9.1 on my computer... my iPad syncs with no problem but the iPhone is not even showing up as a device on the iMac or MacBook!
I have followed the steps on the Apple Support website, but the problem persists. What to do next?
    thanks

Your computer detail provided indicates you have a Mac and the link you provided is for Windows - at least for the software conflicts portion the link went directly to, although some of the troubleshooting steps are similar.
Here is the link for OS X.

  • Iphone not being recognised by itunes, but being recognised as camera.

I've updated everything, restarted my computer, restarted in services... it's being recognised as a camera folder, but not coming up in itunes. I need to download some apps using my computer, as my iphone has changed it's app store to China, but itunes has kept it as England, which means I cannot download apps without itunes.

I have the same issues. itunes 5.0.1.4 doesn't recognize my mini. ipod updater doesn't recognize my mini either. i have uninstalled itunes 5 and reinstalled 4.9, but it didn't work still. something in itunes 5 changed something in my system that reinstalling 4.9 doesn't fix it. updater just shows that i have no ipod connected. if i try to get updater to check for my ipod during the updater installatin, it just sits there and says "waiting for ipod". it's not my usb port because i can read and write to my ipod. i did the entire list of chores that apple suggests on the site including disabling all other functions and services, reinstalling the com port, uninstalling everything, reinstalling everything, getting windows install clean up, e v e r y t h i n g! nothing worked.
I then installed itunes 4.9 and updater 1.4 in my other laptop. i was able to update to firmware 1.4 using that computer. when i put the ipod into that computer w/ itunes 4.9, everything works fine. of course, it asks me if i want to link that laptop w/ my ipod. i said no, because i want to use my original laptop w/ the ipod.
anybody have a solution for this? it's like we all have the same symptoms and going to the same doctor and we end up having to diagnose ourselves. this is extremely annyoying and inefficient.

  • Original iPhone not able to sync

My wife is using an original iPhone and is trying to get it to sync in iTunes on a PC away from home. All sync, etc features in iTunes are greyed out. The PC hs been "authorized"...
How can we get this to work??
    Thanks for your help!

Is this the computer that the iPhone is normally synced with?  If not... a sync WILL wipe all content from the device.

  • Restoring Original iphone not working

My (original) iphone's screen locked. It would not allow me to power it down and the touch screen would not work. It would receive calls but not let me answer them. I tried restoring it on my imac (OS 10.6.8) by doing the following: I hit restore iphone. It asked if I'd like to back it up. I clicked yes. I proceeded to restore it. When I power on the phone it indicates I should connect it to itunes.  When I link it to my itunes the device registers in the left column however there are no options to do anything with the phone. I'm not sure where my back up is and how to get my phone working again. Is there anyone out there that can help?

I'm in this same spot.  Went to the Apple store yesterday and was informed that Apple removed the support completly for the original iPhone so if you restore an orginal iPhone now and connect it to iTunes it won't do anything but charge it.  I'm fairly upset about this because now the device is worthless.  I can't believe they did this.  After 15 years of support this item really upset me.  It is like you get penalized for using an older device.  I'm currently trying to see if I can JB it from the "iTunes sync" screen, but not looking so good.

  • Original iphone not original deactivated sim card

my friend gave me his original iphone without sim card so my daughter could use it as an ipod. he gave me an old att sim card as well that is not active.
iphone shows "slide for emergency" on the bottom of the screen and it shows the usb port in the back pointing to the itunes. every time i try to connect to the itunes the activation screen will show and wants me to activate the iphone. the old phone number associated with the sim card will show up and it asks me for area code and last 4 numbers of the social security. if i hit cancel it says activation cancelled and under neat it says "now it's safe to disconnect your iphone". while still connected i was able to drag songs to the iphone and it load the songs. also, there is a lock where the clock should show. I don't know what to do.
    please help!

According to Apples website the iphone is not available at all in Pakistan. If this is the case then there are NO authorized sellers in Pakistan at all.
Fake iphones come in new packaging as well.

  • IPhone not being recognized by iTunes anymore

    Howdy,
Like the subject line says. It use to auto recognize so I can sync, though the last time I synced was back in Dec 2007. But now it doesn't even recognize the device at all. itunes won't list it on the left hand menu, so I can't sync.
Not sure if it's the latest update to iTunes 7.6.1.9 that caused it.
    Tried:
Swapping different USB ports. It only recognizes that there is a camera device attached.
Tried uninstalling the latest update and running an older version of iTunes I downloaded last Oct. But the old version won't start up because the library has already been updated to newer version.
Did a hard shutdown of my iPhone, and that doesn't work.
Tried charging iPhone to max and that didn't work.
    Basically, nothing is working.
Any ideas? Not sure if it's the device or my computer, and I can't seem to find any way to reach customer support on this website... it's like a maze.
I'm using Windows XP. I'm about to pull my hair out!

    Hello
Posted below is some troubleshooting that may possibly assist you today. Please be aware I am also posting what may have been done already. You can skip past this if needed. Simply posting it for others as well. If you have any other questions feel free to post back.
    1. Go to Add/Remove Programs, Located in the control panel. And check and see if "Apple Mobile Device Support" is listed. It is usually located right above "Apple Software Update"
If it is not there. Then this is the reason iPhone stopped showing up. Please follow the next step below to possibly resolve this.
1 A - Uninstall the following programs in the following order if possible. Then reinstall iTunes 7.1.6.9 for Windows
    * Remove Apple Mobile Device Support
    * Remove Apple Software Update
    * Remove Bonjour
    * Remove any iPod Updater Programs
    * Remove Quicktime
    * Remove iTunes
-Reboot the computer, Then download and install iTunes 7.1.6.9
Once you have installed, Connect the iPhone, Wait and see if it shows up in iTunes. If it does not proceed below.
    2. Go to Start- Run- type services.msc and press ok. The services window will launch.
Do you see Apple Mobile Device in the list? If so the Status should be started. If it is anything else please post back what it is.
You can usually right click on Apple Mobile Device, And tell it to start service if it was some how stopped. Once you start it and it stays started, Reconnect iPhone and see what happens.
If for some reason the service auto stops, This is sometimes caused by Security Software. Please disable or uninstall this software for testing, And see if it allows the service to be started.
If for some reason Apple Mobile Device says it is disabled. Then do the following
2 A - Right click on Apple Mobile Device, Select Properties, Look for Startup Type, Switch it to Automatic, and Apply settings, Then Start the service and press ok, Now test iPhone
    3. Please test all USB Ports and see if any of them resolve iPhone not showing in iTunes, Also if possible connect iPhone to another PC to ensure it is not the iPhone itself. This will isolate it to something on the PC or iPhone
If possible disconnect any un-needed USB Devices.

  • Iphone not showing up in itunes & not connecting to computer

    Rite...
When i plug my iphone into my computer (WinXP, SP2) via the dock and straight from the USB cable, it does not show up in iTunes, Windows does not recognise it as a USB device and the camera pop doesnt show up. Basically Windows isn't recognising it at all.
    I've tried:
    restarting my computer.
    reinstalling itunes.
creating a new account on my pc, installing itunes and seeing if it connects; it did and worked fine, i logged out and and back onto my own profile, my iphone showed up and synched fine. I then restarted and the same problem occurred.
I've tried it in all my USB ports, and none want to read it. I have also tried other USB devices, which also don't want to be recognised. This wasn't the case a couple of days ago.
Also my iphone docked and synched fine after the upgrade both to itunes and the iphone.
Anyone else having this problem? I think it's a general USB problem with my PC, anyone have any ideas.
    Argh it's annoying!!

    I tried this:
"The problem seems to be that the install process treats everything PC like a Vista machine. If you go to C:\WINDOWS\system32\DRVSTORE you'll find an oddly named directory inside it like usbaapl_A65621D65F5B7507DD7B22331826547BDD2D206B.
    Go into it. You'll find USBAAPL.CAT, usbaapl.inf and usbaapl.sys.
What I did was right click on the .inf file and pick install (don't know for sure if it needed that, but I'm not going to omit any steps just in case).
Open up C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers and copy the usbaapl.sys file there.
Open up C:\WINDOWS\inf and copy usbaapl.inf there.
Again I right clicked on the .inf file copy in the C:\WINDOWS\inf directory and hit install. It then created the corresponding usbaapl.PNF in that directory.
I unplugged the pod from the usb port, rebooted the system, plugged the pod in again and voila, there it was. It found it and installed correctly"
    Which didn't work.
    - My iphone appears in the Services under 'Apple Mobile Device Service'
    - I can't verify the iphones driver because nothing is showing up in device drivers/managment
    -I have USB 2.0
