Original MacBook Pro.....to NEW Macbook Pro!
What is the best way to transfer files from my old MB Pro (I got this in April 2006) to my brand new MB Pro? The guy at Apple said to just connect a firewire. But....it seems that the old one only has a 400 port and the new one only has an 800 port....so...am I missing something here? I have both cables and this does not seem that it will work.
Is ethernet the way to go?
Thanks!
Kim
Hi, Kim. Yes, that's exactly right.

Installing Photoshop CS4 from original Disk onto my new Macbook Pro. Serial number accepted but now asks for the serial number of a previous version e.g. CS3 which I no longer keep. How do I resolve ?
Tina Hadley did you migrate/transfer your applications over to your new Macintosh? If so this could cause problems with your serial number being recognized. Please run the available uninstallers located in Applications/Utilities/Adobe Installers folder. Once this is done you will also want to run the CC Cleaner Tool. Details on the use of the CC Cleaner Tool can be found at Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6 - http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/cs5-cleaner-tool-installation-problems.html.

Migrating info from old Macbook Pro to new Macbook Pro and original laptop loses charge midway thru. After charging again how do I get things going, do I start from the beginning?
Agreed. Don't even think about starting a long, disc-intensive process like that without both machines powered by AC.

i tried transferring my iphoto library from my old macbook onto my new macbook pro (via external hard drive), but when i open the new iphoto, it seems to have transferred ALL images ever used on my old macbook. so i tried to just delete all those images so i could try a different approach to transferring, but the new iphoto won't let me do anything and every time i try to delete anything it crashes (since the image amount is so high). please help!!
MacBook Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2), iphoto '11, version 9.4.2To move an iPhoto Library to a new machine:
Link the two Macs together: there are several ways to do this: Wireless Network,Firewire Target Disk Mode, Ethernet, or even just copy the Library to an external HD and then on to the new machine...
But however you do choose to link the two machines...
Simply copy the iPhoto Library from the Pictures Folder on the old Machine to the Pictures Folder on the new Machine.
Then launch iPhoto. That's it.
This moves photos, events, albums, books, keywords, slideshows and everything else. -

See http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1229?viewlocale=en_US - I doubt that it will solve your problem, though. You may want to post on the iPhoto forum - that's where all of the iPhoto experts hang out.
Good luck,

I just upgraded from my 2008 MacBook to a new Macbook Pro. How do I get my time capsule to work on my new MacBook? I did data migration, but the time capsule did not pick it up. Any ideas?
If you migrated all the info from time machine to your new MBP. The TM will usually ask to connect to the old backups.. sorry I am not sure is this what you want to do.. Personally I think you start a fresh backup.
BTW Time Capsule does not do anything.. it is a dumb hard disk in a box.. it is TM that does everything.
Look at B5 and B6 here about connecting to your backup.

How do i transfer data from my old macbook to a new macbook pro?
how do i transfer data from my old macbook to a new macbook pro?
i have an ether net cable will this help?I've used Migration Assistant in the past and it's working like a champ. You either want to connect your MBPs using a Firewire cable or have them connected to the same router with Ethernet cabling. Don't attempt a wifi transfer - it could take a whole day.
Both links provided are good - they both point to various ways to transfer data. I just prefer MA.

Old Black Macbook for a New Macbook Pro?
about 5 or 6 months i got a black macbook and i have 3 years of warranty but the motherboard crashed on me out of the random so im just wondering can take my old black macbook for a new macbook pro and pay the difference?
Message was edited by: iloveska2Apple will typically allow a return within 14 days of your purchase... which is basically what you would need to do if you wanted to make an exchange. You would basically return your old one and buy the new one. As the previous poster mentioned, at this point, you won't be able to achieve this working directly with Apple. As your machine is 5-6 months old, there is wear to consider... it is basically no longer a new machine. Apple stores are not equipped to "appraise" used machines.

Hi
I have started migration système to transfert from hold Macbook pro to New MacBook air
Application starter successfully for several hours.
But since more than 3 hours I got the message "transferring Time zone paramètres " with time left less than 1 minute.
Any recommendation or suggestion to solve it ?
Many tanksIf it has run for 3 hours it's probably done and you can quit Migration Assistant and reboot the new computer. In the future rather than using Migration Assistant I would recommend using Startup Assistant which tends to be a bit more reliable and does not create a new user account as MA does. If you're interested here is an article explaining Setup Assistant tips.

Started the transfer process from my old MacBook to a new MacBook pro using Migration assistant 12 hours ago. The screen says transferring your information. Moving about 270 GB using an Ethernet cable directly connected. Is this normal?
You can get a thunderbolt to firewire adapter. You can then get a firewire 400 to 800 cable and put the old computer in target mode. Then you can follow these instructions.

Transfering documents from an old MacBook to a new MacBook Pro
What to do when transfering documents from an old MacBook to a new MacBook Pro and it got stuck in "about 44 hours and 53 min remaining", since 5 days ago?
Either exercise a lot of patience or start over again. See if there is useful information here that can solve your problem.

What is the easiest way to move my iPhoto library from my macbook to my new mac pro?
Surprisingly easy! Go into the Finder, then into the Photos Library. In there, there will be a file called your iPhoto Library. It holds all your photos, essentially a special type of folder. Using an external hard drive transfer it to the same location on your new Mac. Now, when you boot iPhoto on the new Mac, it will recognise it and you'll see all your photos instantly!
There's a really good video on it here...
