Original NWN game maxing cpu?

Yes my computer is getting older, and I may be forced to upgrade soon, but it seems strange to me that Neverwinter nights eats up 100% of my CPU.  I have no performance issues, I just get concerned about my system overheating, so I have to take frequent breaks.  The CPU temp gets up to just above 50c after about half an hour of play.

No, i don't have any hackpacks, haven't even done everything i want to in the single player games that I have (it's a lot of game!)
I have the stock cooler on my CPU, but I think that since it is not OEM, it comes wit a better cooler.  Average idle would be 35 to 40 degrees depending on the weather, and if I'd cleaned it out recently.  It is good to know that it can handle temps up to 70c.  As far as instability, I think that it DOES reset my computer if I leave the game paused for extended periods of time.  I always make sure to shut the game right away if i'm not going to be at my computer now.
I was reading elsewhere that if the gpu far outclasses the CPU, that it could put extra load on the cpu.  It sounds kinda backwards, but maybe they have a point.  Oh well, for now, I guess it's a problem that I can live with.

    Never mind...I found it.
Of course I have all the firewall, worm, scanning, phishing
filtering, full time protect, and everything else turned off when I
am working on a remote/testing site however I found the Symantec
antivirus email scan being enabled (doesn't it just interact with
my email program?) was getting in the way of DW9 ftp operations,
causing some lagging that was putting DW9 into an unstable mode
during and immediately after (10 seconds) ftp operations.
The CPU still spikes to 99% during ftp functions but DW9
works even though it's likely taxed to the max but when I turn off
email scan DW9 returned to a functioning state during ftp and
remote file view. Whatever it takes huh?
PS: email scanning only never effected DW8.02

Thanks for the response. I managed to Google the 'nobody' account and found the explanation.
As you say, I assumed the 'syslogd' process had to do with system logs. I did check the console and couldn't find anything of particular interest in the logs.
I'll continue to monitor but if anyone has any further suggestions please post.
One thing that might also have an impact... my available drive space is now down to less than 5gb (runs anywhere between 1gb and 5gb free depending on what I'm running). I know this causes problems for Parallels as it keeps moaning at me, but would it cause any problems with OSX?
    Thanks again,

Hello i buy  a new macbook air white i5 ivy bridge processor and when i play a game the cpu themperature is 88-100c it is normal?

One thing I should add. While "normal", it doesn't make it preferrrable that you should be always running near the maximum capability of the unit. The new 2012 MBA's are outfitted with CPU's that have a maximum running temp of 115 degrees C. (the 2011's were rated at 100 degrees C.)
At, or near this point, the CPU will shut down the system to safeguard from overheating. Right under this point the system's fan will be running at top speed. Any mechanical device, run at or near it's capability will undergo accelerated wear. Just how much in this situation is unknown. as such, I don't use my MBA as a full-time gaming rig. I try and keep it sensible.
The MBA is not really designed for gaming, but it's competent performance sometimes lures us to use it as such.

    Hi all,
Read earlier post on this subject but there was no definitive answer. As far as I can make out it may be possible to fit an XP2100+ after flashing the bios.
Is this possible? If not what is the max CPU that can be fitted?

  • X2100 max CPU temperature

    Hi all
Searching the SUN docs all I can find for the x2100 (mark 1+2) is the 'operating temperature' of 2-38 Degrees C. I'd like to be able to relate this to the results I get from the internal IPMI sensors- CPU and case temps.
Does anyone know the reccomended max / min temperatures for the CPU and case temp?
I know the cpu shut down safety is at 80 Deg C but I'd like to know what's the max they can safely run at for a prolonged time without damage?
What's the max temp's you'd run your x2100's at constantly?
    Cheers for any repsonses :)

Look up AMD's web site for max CPU temperature for your model of CPU. The critical thresholds are wrong, the CPU max temp is definitely way lower than 80 degree C.

  • Max cpu speed

My son has a compaq with a msi 6090 v3.0. The online manual says that it will support 2600+ or higher processor. But the MSI website says it will support 2200+ or higher. Doesn't sound like a big deal, but when i clicked on the relevant link entitled 'cpu support' it it had a "no" next to any processor with a higher speed than 2200+. Does anyone have any idea what the max cpu speed is that can be supported by this particular motherboard?
    Thanks for any help.

CPU support for 6390 both 2 version is reported by BIOS ver:
    BIOS Version:6390 ver1:   W6390VMS.150 (ver. 1.50)
                         6390 ver2:   W6390VMS.210 (ver. 2.10)
latest version on BIOS for 6390 ver1 is Version  1.8
latest version on BIOS for 6390 ver2 is Version  2.6(Update Description Support Duron Applebred FSB133 CPU)
if you update with latest BIOS for your mobo you may support higher CPUs

  • ICal in Leopard uses max CPU and must be force-quit

I'm having a problem with iCal 3.0 in Leopard. When left running, eventually it will start to use my entire CPU for no reason. I have tried wiping out all of its preference files, and deleted all my "subscribed" calendars (in case it was maybe stuck trying to update one), but it's still acting up. Interestingly, when it goes into this CPU hogging seizure, if I try to quit it normally at that time, the program will quit, but then immediately relaunches itself as "hidden" -- as if it needed to remain open to finish some kind of indexing or something. I find I need to then force quit it twice before it will stay closed and quit being a nuisance.
    Something is definitely broken here.
On the other hand, at least the dock icon for it (appears to) always display the correct date now. Although I apparently can't leave iCal running anymore (unless I want to listen to my fan going full blast all day), I'm glad it no longer needs to actually be launched to realize it isn't July 17 every day of the year.
I've seen a few similar reports from other users. Has anyone found a workaround for this yet?

I did some more testing yesterday. I created a new user, launched iCal, played around with it a bit, and left it open for awhile. It never maxed out the CPU or became unresponsive, and appears to be working perfectly with a fresh set of calendars.
As I mentioned in my first post, I had already deleted all of the preference and .plist files in my regular user account, and that did not fix the problem. I have now concluded that there must be something "corrupt" in one of my calendar files (I don't think they are actually corrupt though; my guess is that iCal 3 just has some kind of bug that only occurs with some certain type of legacy data). If I could, I would simply delete those and start fresh, but I have far too much valuable information in there to do that. Unfortunately, it is not possible to export individual events; all I can do is backup and restore entire calendars. I tried that, and the problem continues, so I am at a loss as to how I can solve this without destroying several years worth of data.
As I am not willing to lose all of my old data, I guess I will just have to wait until this nasty bug in iCal 3 gets fixed.

  • FlashPlayerPlugin.11.7.700.169 near max CPU usage

I've read over the past years of how many of us are experiencing major problems with flashplayer and/or flashplayer plug-ins, and over those years I have never seen any real solutions, why's that?
I'm using Firefox 19.0 with FlashPlayerPlugin_11_7_700_169 and I've been testing out various "fixes" that I have read over the years and NONE works, and none of the feedback given to users ever really goes beyond the bog standrad drone responses of "Disable any plugins you don't need blah blah blah" "make sure you're using up-to-date browser and flashplayer etc etc etc blah blah and more blah", rather than saying "There has to be something we've screwed up since so many users are complaining now, lets try to find out what's wrong and if we can fix it",
NOT MAKE IT WORSE WITH EVERY DAMN UPDATE!!!!! (Yes I'm using THAT many exclamation marks!!!!)
    My System:
    Acer/Aspire 5551 (Laptop/board)
Athlon II P320 Dual Core @2.10Ghz
    3GB ddr3 @1066Mhz
    HD4250 @256MB
    Windows 7 HP 64bit
Firefox 19.0 with Ghostery, NoScript and FlashBlock installed, and before you give me the drone script response, I HAVE tested EVERYTHING browser wise, I have uninstalled and even removed the regkeys of EVERYTHING to do with firefox, started fresh and tested, SAME RESULTS HIGH CPU USUAGE, I then added ONE thing at a time, SAME RESULT EACH TIME, HIGH CPU USUAGE, so it REALLY doesn't matter/make any difference, Flashplayer and its damn plug-iins cause the same PROBLEM each time.
I even tried MemoryFox... I know, but i had to try SOMETHING new, and even so, it didn't do a damn thing for the HIGH CPU USAGE!!
I know my laptop is not the latest and greatest with the best chip and gfx card, BUT, it is telling that even those with  the best of the best chips and gfx cards are saying the same thing I'm saying here now, FLASHPLAYER IS BUSTED AND CAUSING OUR CPU'S TO GO APE SH*T!!!!!!
I have stripped my Win7 OS down to near bare-bones getting rid of ALL the excess junk that Microsoft couldn't be bothered to get rid of and more, I tweaked my services so that I'm not running 100+ processes and services, I'm now only running ~32 on start-up and using only ~650mb of ram, so I think I've done ok so far getting rid of the crap and filth floating around in my OS. I also got rid of all the bloatware that comes as standrard with all store bought craptops, all the junk they think you need and should have "cuz it's trendy n junk". So really when I'm using Firefox to watch a video in HD and flashplayer is required, it really shouldn't require near maximum of my CPU,
NOT EVEN CIVILIZATION 5 ON GOOD SETTINGS USES THAT F*KING MY CPU
I have stripped my laptop cleaned out the fan, put new thermal paste on (Arctic Silver) and got my temps down quite a bit for a laptop, previous temps ~56c average on idle not long after after boot-up, down to ~47-50c on load playing a game listening to radio in backround,, but as soon as I play ONE video in Youtube with no other applications running, the damn flashplayer goes nuts again and risies back up to the 50's and 60's Celcuis, it just HAS to have all that CPU to it self doesn't it.
If there were ANY alternatives even if they didn't provide as good results when watching videos on Youtube but managed to use a reasonable amount of resources, I'd ditch flashplayer right now, but it appears I like the rest of us are stuck,,, for now.
PLEASE FIX THIS CRAP NOW, MILLIONS OF USERS ARE COMPLAINING ABOUT THIS, WE CANNOT ALL BE WRONG, THERE IS A PROBLEM NOT SIMPLY JUST AN ISSUE< ITS GETTING WORSE WITH EACH UPDATE BY THE LOOKS OF IT, SORT YOUR SH*T OUT GUYS, NO MORE FU**ING AROUND, FIX YOUR SH*T.
PS, sorry for any spelling/grammar mistakes, I just have to rant about this and I'm not that edumacatedness anyway.

  • ITunes Maxing CPU when next song plays

I installed the latest update of iTunes 7. Since then, while playing songs, iTunes fluxuates from 30% CPU to 65% with it occasionally maxing the CPU to 100% when a new song starts. The music sounds all garbled for about a second or two and locks up my whole machine. Then iTunes CPU drops back to in between 30% and 65% and the song plays fine. This did not happen with the initial release of version 7. Only after the first update was installed. If I pause the songs, the CPU drops down to below 20%. This also happens if iTunes is the only program I have running, just not as often. Any suggestions on how to fix this would be greatly appreciated. My laptop has a Intel Pentium M processor 1.60 GHz with 1 GB of RAM.

    Sorry for my english ...
I have the same problem too. But I also saw that this appears when at every 10 seconds iTunes alternate/scrowling the artist name and the album name. In full screen, the cpu goes to 70%; in a small window, "only" 35%. When iconified, there is no problem. When it appens at the same time of a new music the sound is ****** for two seconds.
This problem don't appears in the version 6.
How to tell that to apple ?? This must be corrected !
    Thanks !

  • Safari on Windows sometimes maxes CPU?

Anyone else have problem with Safari under Windows - for me it will sometimes just start maxing the equivelant of one of my CPU cores and won't stop until I exit Safari and restart.  It doesn't happen consistently (like always on the same web site) but it happens often.  Anyone else have this issue or have a solution?

    What plug-ins do you have?
    Any 3rd party extensions?
The ability to switch a single plug-in off, would have to try disable all plug-ins.
    Disable page previews.
Same for javascript, can't disable/enable on specific sites.
On Mac, Click2Flash works well to limit loading flash plug-ins.
Some sites insist on running scripts constantly, and/or attempt to reload a page (page hit counter to show more hits than real?).
Safari 5 doesn't seem to be well threaded. Each tab fights for processor cycles and isn't able to make efficient use of multiple cores/threads. Try opening 10 tabs concurrently. Now do that same with any other browser like Firefox or IE9.
My solution is to use other browser and disable Active-X and plug-ins and scripts unless I give permission to load, and use Safari with those turned off by default and only load unless I need to or want something.  Safari tends to display and look better, but that's it.

  • How to get max CPU usage

    I'm using Win 7 64bit and CS6 64bit.
However, when I do some heavy editing, like anything that takes a few minutes of CPU processing, I tend to look at the task manager only to find that 4 cores are utilizing 50% at max thus taking longer to compute the results.
Is there a way to maximize CPU usage by Photoshop? I would like it to use 100% when performing tasks to speed up process time. Is there a windows plug in?
    Thanks,
    Gil.

It depends on how each of the portions of Photoshop you're using was implemented.  There's little you can do to influence it.  About the only thing I can think of is that you can adjust the Tile Size and Cache Levels values in the Edit - Preferences - Performance dialog.  On some systems with some kinds of operations smaller tiles can make things work faster and with others large tiles are better.  But be forewarned:  I've never seen changing those values make a very big difference.
One other thing you can do is adjust the max RAM you allow Photoshop to use.  Your OS probably itself doesn't need more than 1 to 2 GB, and if you don't specifically have another application you want to run that uses a lot of RAM you'll want to change the Photoshop RAM usage so as to leave just a few GB for the OS.  On a system with a huge amount of RAM that might mean setting it to 90% or more.  If Photoshop can keep things in RAM, your CPU will be busier because it won't be waiting on swapping data to/from disk.
Make sure you restart Photoshop before testing any changes.
There are filters that you SHOULD see use 100% of all your cores - example, try a Filter - Blur - Radial Blur on a large image.  There are other things that simply don't, because either there isn't a good way to multi-thread the activity (e.g., data compression during save) or the Photoshop implementation is just limited because it's not been updated since the advent of multi-core systems (e.g., some of the old artistic filters).
When I was doing performance testing, I created an action that does a lot of the kinds of things I normally do to images, so that I could run it repeatedly and time the results, looking for differences as a result of choosing the different settings.  There are Photoshop benchmarks on the web that do much the same thing, and while it might not be a good match for what you do (none of them were for me), they ARE interesting in that they allow you to compare your performance to other systems out there, to make sure everything's working right.

  • Maxing CPU during export

Okay. I admit I'm pretty new to video editing. I've spent the past year or so muddling through with VSDC doing as little editing work as possible because that program is as user-friendly as a bengal tiger with rabies. I bought Premiere Elements 13 so I could have a more stable, usable editing software that I could do more interesting stuff with.
Problem is, when I try and export a video it goes just fine for the first 8% or so but then it immediately redlines my CPU. I have no idea what's causing it. I'm trying to export in WMV 1920x1080 (custom made because apparently Elements doesn't like WMV in HD and it's the only type that keeps the file size from being ridiculous).
    Specs:
    Intel i5-3470 CPU 3.2GHz
    16GB RAM
    GTX 760 graphics card
    500GB SSD
I really hope someone can help. I don't want to have to go back to VSDC.

Updated. Hadn't done that. I assumed it would download the most recent version automatically. Unfortunately it didn't solve the problem. Initial CPU usage dropped from 30% to about 28% but it just redlined at the same progress as before.
The SSD is the default C drive yes, and Premiere is installed on it. Operating system is Windows 8.1 (with classic shell, if it matters).
Estimated output file size is 537.81MB. Duration is 37min, 51.51sec. And I'm only exporting to hard drive.
I would look at the results of the export but that would require the process finishing. Twice, in fact. And since the estimated completion time is ever increasing (it was over an hour by around 17%, up from 20 minutes at the start), there's not much chance of me doing that unless absolutely necessary. It'd take up most of my day at the rate it was going.
As a test to see if it was something to do with the custom output format I tried in the Youtube HD format. That maxed out my CPU immediately but maintained estimated completion time of about 20 minutes. Not exactly an ideal solution though. I don't want to lock up my computer for the several hours it takes to export footage.
Thanks for your help in advance!
