Original pictures deleted after batch rename in Bridge

Hi,
I have just gone through the process of renameing photos in my collection using batch rename in Bridge.
I have just gone into the wastebin on my computer and all my pictures (with the original filenames) are in there?
Is this right? As far as I can tell I have all my photos, with their new file names, its just the original photos that are in the bin.
Can I safely delete all the photos in the watebin?
Thanks
Tom

Collections are a little different that images in folders as they are not images, just an address to find image.  I just did a test rename of file in collection it it renamed image, nothing in trash heap.
So can't say why you are seeing what you are seeing.  Are you using folders in Bridge, and the folder is not write protected?

  • Bridge removing file extension after batch rename

    Hi All,
I've been having trouble with what appears to be a problem with Bridge in Photoshop CS2. I'm well aware this is an older version but, in this case, I don't think that should matter. Here is my situation:
After batch renaming jpeg files, I've had a problem with Bridge simply stripping off the file extension on all the newly renamed files. This never happens right away...always later. In other words, I'll batch rename a folder full of photos without issue, note that the rename was successful, and then return to that same folder a short time later to find white thumbnails and missing file extensions. This has happened exactly the same way on two different computers - and always with the delay.
This is getting to be very annoying. Has anyone had or heard of a similar issue? Thanks very much...

First use the menu tools / cache / purge cache for folder, if still in trouble restart Bridge holding down option key to refresh preferences

  • CS4 Bridge not returning to selected thumbnail after batch rename

Using Bridge CS4.  Directory has several hundred RAW files.
I grab some images from the middle of the bunch and do a batch rename.  Sometimes Bridge returns the thumbnail display to the ones that were selected, sometimes it doesn't.  When it doesn't, I have to scroll back down to my selected images. I can't figure out what is or isn't set that gets Bridge to return to my selected images instead of leaving me at the start of the thumbnails......

  • Batch Renaming in Bridge CS6

I take pictures of a swim team and I keyword tag each image with the swimmers name.  I would like to batch rename and save in a new folder the files so they have the original filename and then the keyword name.  I don't see that as an option in the metadata drop down or any of the other drop downs.  Is there a way to do it?  I have exported it and included the metadata information and from my PC I can see it in the lower picture data, but I am sharing with a Mac user and it is easiest if the name of the swimmer is in the filename.  I have over 1100 pictures and renaming them manually would be too time consuming.  Thank you for your input.  MB

  • No photos after batch rename

    MacBook
    CS3
    iPhoto '08
I tried to rename some photos in iPhoto and now i can't see them. Every time I open iPhoto it tells me that it is rebuilding thumbnail caches yet still no photos. This is what I did:
In Bridge went to Batch Rename.
    Rename in same folder
    New filenames
    Sequence Letter Uppercase
    Date Time Date Created YYYYMMDD
    Text
    Sequence Number 2
I did this and it renamed the iPhoto thumbnail bridge. I then changed the filename back to "iPhoto" and now there are no photos.
How do I get them back.

Once you upgrade to Yosemite you need to upgrade the iPhoto application to iPhoto 9.6 from the App Store.
Also, if your previous version of iPhoto was iPhoto 7 (08) or earlier you'll need to download and run the iPhoto Library Upgrader 1.1 on the library before iPhoto 9.6 an open it.  The updater will be located in the Applications/Utilities folder.
You iPhoto Library should be located in your Home/Pictures folder.  It is there and how big is it according to the Finder?  If you're still having problems connect the two Macs to gather via ethernet cable, Target Disk Mode,  Transferring files between two computers using FireWire  or other direct method and just do a direct  copy, i.e. drag the library from the 2009 Mac to the Pictures folder of the 2012 Mini.

  • Batch Renaming with Bridge

    Hi,
Well I've never posted in the Bridge forum, but here goes!
I work on a publication in which I have a long series of PDFs with the following names:
    p-1.pdf
    p-2.pdf
    p-3.pdf
    etc.
I won't go into the details of why they're named like this, but I use Bridge to rename them into the following format (required by my printer):
    001PubName.pdf
    002PubName.pdf
    003PubName.pdf
    etc.
The problem that I have is that if I have a long series of files (p-1 through p-200 for example), the Batch Rename process will only capture some of them.  It might do the first half (p-1 through p-100), and those will be renamed with the correct number.  Then, suddenly a few more pages will be named with something like p-565 (or other wrong number), then the last set will be left in their original p- names.
What I'm trying to find out is how Bridge renames these.  Meaning, what does it look for to choose the rename process?  Usually if I do these in batches of no more than 50, it will rename them correctly (meaning the new numbered name will match the previous file number (p-25.pdf becomes 025PubName.pdf for example).  But if I do a longer list, a lot of them will be messed up.
I eventually have to enlarge the thumbnails to their maximum size and compare the file name with the page numbers on every page (though that's still faster than manually renaming all the files).
Any ideas?  Or suggestions on doing this?
    Thanks, Phyllis

Their download link is broken, but I'll see if I can find it on another site.
    So it is!
I just googled "the rename" and picked cnet because they are well known.
You've probably found it by now.

  • Webcam pictures delete after 28 days from my pic folder

I take a lot of pictures with my built in webcam..
When i take them it comes up with the snapshot and i close it and they save to my pictures folder but they delete the pictures automaticaly after 28 days.
    How do i change this?
Do i need to move the pictures to another folder? Rename them? I'm stuck.
It deleted all 50 pictures of me and my boyfriend so kinda gutted and want to get this solved ASAP
    Any help much appreciated :)

    Hi LizziiJayne
    Thats really strange.
I never had such issue and I cannot imagine that the picture would delete automatically after a couple of time without any warnings or notification.
Do you use any 3rd party software or tools which would clean the OS?
Anyway, you could try to move the picture to the second partition on the HDD.
Create a folder on the second partition and move the pictures there.
Additionally I would recommend backup the pictures on a external USB stick or HDD.
Then test it if the pictures would be deleted again.

  • Batch rename in bridge

i am having trouble with batch renaming. it was working fine previously and not sure what happened to cause it not to work. i am using a mac osx 10.6.3/ CS4.
basically when i click on batch rename, it won't let me select "rename in same folder". it also will not highlight MAC OS in the compatibility line. i have restarted the program, computer, and cleared the cache. (same problem when i try to rename in a different folder)  any ideas?

I am not familar with the workings of a Mac computer.  You would get a better response to post in the Mac Bridge forum.
I suspect you need to reset the preferences which in a PC is press and hold the Ctrl key and click on start icon for Bridge.  You will get a reset window with 3 options.

I can only provide you with the path for a Mac but Windows should be something similar

  • Original Pictures Deleted?!?

    Hello,
I have a very bad problem...not too long ago I put a lot of pictures on my iPod nano and they everything worked fine! But then I plugged in my iPod a few times to chance some songs...now I wanted to look at some pictures I took(5000) and they are all gone! somehow itunes deleted those pictures! Did anyone have had the same prob as i do?? I want my pictures back...what would be the best solution?
Im waiting for quick responses! THanks!
    luc

the programm somehow deleted the ORIGINAL pictures!!
Where are you saying it deleted the originals? From your iPod or from your computer?
The original pictures should be on your computer.
Are they still in the folder you selected in iTunes prefs -> iPod - Photo tab?
The originals are only copied to the iPod if you open iTunes prefs -> iPod - Photo tab and check Copy full resolution photos to iPod.
If this box is not checked, to save space, iTunes will only load a small version of the picture onto the iPod.

  • Batch rename in Bridge: can you truncate filenames?

I know there are free-standing programs to do this, but:
My images come out of the DSLR as DSC_001.NEF and so forth.
Is it possible with Batch Rename to just strip off the DSC so that DSC_001.NEF becomes just 001.NEF??

I've used A better Finder renamer. It's a good program. But also, i'm a fan of using the tools already at my disposal -- ie. what's included in the OS.
For simple rename actions I might use Automator or the "trim file names" apple script that apple includes a part of the sample scipts. I've modified it to my needs.
It all comes down to what works best for your individual situations.
With that said. I'd still like to see Adobe beef up the batch rename fucntion in Bridge. Call me spoiled, but i don't want to have to leave Bridge just to rename my files.

  • Batch rename through bridge ... loses xmp?

okay - I blew it. Some of my files were imported into LR4 with an incorrect filename ... per my naming habits.
I edited everything ... (without renaming) and then went into Brdige to do a batch rename. I presume that Bridge did not rename the .xmp files and I have to edit them all over again ... right?
Please tell me there's a work around
    thanks

    No problem.

Right now, I have the missing files (paths) in LR. I also have the files reimported into LR with a new name.
Remove (from the catalog) the files re-imported with the new name.

So, I'm going to go back to Bridge and rename the files (that currently have new names) back to what they were.
    Yes - good.
    bgshap wrote:
Then ... I'm not going to reimport them again (that'll defeat the purpose)
    Right again.
    bgshap wrote:
But, when I go into LR and click on a file that LR thinks is offline or missing, what then?
If you rename the back to what they were they won't be missing anymore in Lightroom.
THEN what you'll want to do is rename them IN Lightroom, i.e. using Lightroom's renaming capability instead of Bridge. Or, some would suggest not bothering to rename and use metadata exclusively for organization - I personally think disk folder and file names are also important, but as I said - some could care less since they only use Lr to deal with them anyway and always by way of their metadata instead of folder/filenames.
(if Lr's renaming capability is not strong enough, there is some plugin-assisted renaming possibilities, but now we're getting too far ahead).

  • Problems renaming and batch renaming in Bridge

    Hello Everyone,
I am having trouble renaming files in Bridge.
I am connected to my companies server but on certain folders I cannot rename files within here. The batch rename button becomes unclickablle.
I have tried purging the cache for individual folders but no luck as of yet.
    Any help would be amazing.
    Thanks.

then it is the folder or they said you had access but it is not the case. Don't know how you check this yourself but on a Mac a simple get info command on a file, folder or disk shows if I have access at all and if I have read an write permissions instead of read only.
If you can rename the files locally but can't copy them to the new location it seems this location is the problem. Just for proof try to copy the same file to a new folder somewhere else.

  • Problem locating photos in LR5 after batch renaming them

    Hello
I imported and edited several hundred photos. Then, I batch  renamed several dozen photos using Bulk Rename utility. Naturally, LR showed an exclamation mark icon in the upper right corner of each of the missing(renamed) pics. After clicking on the exclamation mark I choose "Locate" and manually located the photo. On the bottom I checked the "find nearby photos" checkbox. LR located the missing photo but doesn't see the other renamed photos. I think the "find nearby photos" is only useful when you move photos to a different folder, not when you rename them. Any solutions for my situation?

Yeah, I guess it's the only way. Thank you. This is silly, but for some reason I thought I wasn't able to batch rename in LR
