Original powerbook software

I remember having a language program that came with my G4 aluminum 15 inch powerbook. I trashed it shortly after I got it but need it now. It is not the simple translation program but gave lessons in multiple foreign languages. I reinstalled the powerbook software I also used pacifist to look through Panther and Tiger but cannot find it. Any ideas where this program was and what it was called. Thanks.

Possibly could have been Sherlock. Here's the included software back in the day:
Mail, iChat AV, Safari, Sherlock, Address Book, QuickTime, iLife (includes iTunes, iPhoto, iMovie, and iDVD(4)), iSync, iCal, DVD Player, Classic environment, Art Directors Toolkit, EarthLink TotalAccess 2003 (includes 30 days of free service), FileMaker Pro 6 Trial, GraphicConverter, Microsoft Office v. X Test Drive, OmniGraffle, OmniOutliner, QuickBooks for Mac New User Edition, Zinio Reader, Developer Tools, and Apple Hardware Test

  • Has anyone installed Leopard on Original Powerbook G4?

Hello everyone, I would like to ask if anyone has installed Leopard on their original Powerbook G4, 17"
with 1G Ram and 1Gz Processor? Does anyone think it will work okay? or will it slow the computer down? Thanks for answering in advance.

I've been itching to buy a nice new 17" MacBook Pro but in light of Apple's apparent big slide in MB Pro's quality control, I'm putting it off for a while.
There's no shortage of folks who are having problems with them; just check the MacBook Pro threads, here.
And four of my five friends in the film animation industry who have purchased MacBook Pros in the past year have had to return them due to defects, i.e. screen problems, fan problems, overheating problems, keyboard problems, assorted other problems.....some are already on their 3rd MB Pro and STILL no joy.
It seems that getting a problem free MacBook Pro right out of the box is a total crapshoot. Certainly outrageous for a $2800 machine.
So I'm waiting, and keeping my fingers crossed, in hope that the quality control issues are remedied. But, God, I want one really badly!

  • Update the original system software in my iPhone 4?

Update the original system software in my iPhone 4?
I am helping a friend having problems updating the system in her iPhone 4.
She has verizon service for the phone. She owns an iMac G5 running 10.4.11.
When she plugs her iphone 4 into her iMac G5 she can't get past an error saying
tht her computer system software is to old to update the iPhone 4.
I am sure there are many people using new iphones with older computers, system.
There should be some way to update her iPhone 4 to iOS 4.3.4 Software Update
with her iMac G5. If not, what about doing it with my up to date Intel Mac Pro?
I can't believe that buing a new iPhone forces you to buy a new computer to keep
it up to date? That is not like Apple at all. Thank you for your time and patience.
                                                                                                                                W.W.

Basically, this is correct.  If she has a Mac running 10.4.11, then she is unable to download iTunes 7, which is what you need to be able to update to the latest software - iOS6.0.1 or use an iPhone 5.
To be able to update your Mac to iTunes 7, you need to have Snow Leopard or above installed, Snow Leopard being 10.6 and you also need an Intel Mac to be able to instal Snow Leopard.  Apple are sending people free upgrade DVD's of Snow Leopard so that you can upgrade if applicable and then from there and once you have upgraded you can get the Mac App Store where you can then download Lion and Mountain Lion.  All upgrades are then CD free.
There is no point in her upgrading from your Mac, because it won't then sync with any of her own things that she has.
Either she will have to leave her phone the way it is or wait until she is ready to purchase a new and more up to date Mac and then go from there.
Mac OS 10.4 is old now in computer terms, so it does pay to keep your system and computers reasonably up to date as and when you can afford it, but especially the OS.

  • IPad 1 3G wifi Model using original operating software and video streaming

Anyone experience the following ?  My iPad 1 , 3G wifi model , using  original operating system software ... When using 3G , AT&T plan, when streaming video clips from sites like YouTube, tmz, xvideos, etc, although slow, all streams came back crystal clear, phenomenally clear , for some reason, every time , no matter if the clip was hd or not .  This doesn't happen when I used wifi.      Now that I have downloaded iOS 5.0.1 to my iPad, it's not the same.  Any help advice or comments, or anyone else experience this before?

iOS5 is a bit slower on the iPad1.  And from what I'm reading, a tad bit slow also on the iPhone 3GS and 4.  All of these use the A4 processor, versus the A5 in the iPad2 and iPhone 4S.  So that may account for some of the slowness of the video playback....
What would account for the crystal clear streaming videos when I was operating original iPad software using AT&T wireless plan?  All streaming video came back crystal clear, even though they weren't originally hd streams.
Like I said, iOS5 is slower than iOS4 on the iPad1.  Slower so can't decode the frames quickly enough before the next frame has to be displayed.
Ane like I inferred, cellular data is inconsistent.  More users in your area will cause your speed to decrease.  You can't really guarantee enough bandwidth on a 3G connection in many areas.  Wi-Fi would almost certainly use a faster connection than 3G, thus the better video playback, regardless of iOS4 or iOS5.
Bottom line: 3G in your area is probably just not good enough anymore.  iOS5 just made it worse for your already marginal situation.

  • Need original installation software for iQue 3600

    Hello !
Can someone point me in the right direction to find the original installation software for the Garmin iQue 3600 handheld GPS.
I found the unit after I thought it was lost, the unit charges and operates in Palm and GPS modes and now I need to hotsync the unit so I can update and start using the hand held again.
    Thanks in advance!

I basically did a Google search for your device and went on the Garmin site for the info. I provided.
It states in the manual that the unit can play MP3 files but it doesn't say how. I saw an audio Icon on the home screen of the unit in the user manual. That may be the application to use.
I read a review on a webpage that stated you need to use an SD card for the audio files. Typically with a Palm OS device, you create a folder on the SD card that is named Audio on the root directory of the card. You can then copy MP3 files to the card using a card reader on the PC.
Here is a link to the Palm website regarding: Getting Started With Photos, Music & Videos.
    http://www.palm.com/us/support/handbooks/F03/Media_F03_ENG
There are several different media players for Palm OS that may work on your Garmin. The Core Pocket Media Player, realplayer, etc.
You may want to contact Garmin regarding this or browse their forums for a solution.

  • Is my original powerbook battery ok?

Sorry, if this subject has been covered in previous threads. I've trawled the web with no joy, so far.
My original powerbook battery which has hardly been used and shows fully charged (on laptop screen indicator and battery led lights, when battery check button is pressed) will not run the powerbook. Without the power adaptor being connected, the powerbook shuts down after minutes.
Can anyone suggest a fix on this, or point me in the right direction for further information.
    Thanks, in advance

Your battery is dead, partly because it has hardly been used and partly because it's old. The average lifespan of a Powerbook battery that has been treated well is 2-4 years. A few batteries last longer than four years, but they are rare. A battery that sees little or no activity will die faster than one that is used lightly but regularly.
You'll need to replace your battery. When you get a new one, read this outstanding User Tip for information about how to make it last:

  • How do I install original system software on a replaced MacMini Hard Drive?

My Mac Mini model A1347 Hard Drive crashed last week. I drove 250 miles to an Apple Store which did not have a replacement drive in stock and was too busy to fix it if they did, so they referred me to an authorized technician in the area. He had a drive, but not the time to install it. But he was kind enough to give me very precise instructions which I followed carefully and now have the drive installed and apparently running fine. I also have a very good Time Machine backup for this computer.
Now - my question is how to I reinstall my software on this computer, since the new drive is blank? I have the original install disks, but the instructions assume I want to reinstall over the existing system, or erase and replace it. Nothing about putting it on a new drive.
When I start up the computer, it asks me for a startup drive (the ?? icon). When I put in the original install disk, the Apple logo appears and it starts trying to load, but never does, and eventually my monitor goes to sleep with nothing happening.
    Any trick I'm unaware of?
I've also tried the startup with the C key down. Same thing.
    Thanks.

You did not tell us what version of OS X you were using. If it was Mountain Lion then you should be able to boot from your Time Machine backup as follows:
    Boot Using OPTION key:
      1. Restart the computer.
      2. Immediately after the chime press and hold down the
          "OPTION" key.
      3. Release the key when the boot manager appears.
      4. Select the disk icon for the Time Machine backup drive.
      5. Click on the arrow button below the icon.

  • Howto restore original nokia software after hard r...

I have an N79 phone. Recently, due to some problems I had to hard reset my phone. I took backup of all my contacts, messages, etc. which I could restore easily using PC suite. However, I lost some software which had been originally installed by nokia. Most notably among these were the Ngage games and wavesecure. How do I get these back ? I especially need wavesecure.

Have you restored the backup? If yes, did you get the wavesecure software again? If no then you can get this software from here.
As for Ngage games you will have to visit www.n-gage.com. But the licence which you got would not recover unfortunately!
Please thank me by giving 'KUDOS' star. It will help me to serve you better.
Currently using N82 and 5230. Next would be N?

  • Printer on Powerbook + Software questions

    Hi there!
I'm new to these boards as well as new to Apple. I have just purchased a Powerbook 15" and have some questions.
I have an hp deskjet printer...would I be able to hook my powerbook to that? Or are there specific apple friemdly printers I can purchase? Its nothing fancy, just some essays for school and resumes.
Also...when I ordered my Appple I didn't include any "software"...like iworks. Will my powerbook contain a word processing program? Or do I have to purchase office software?
One last question.... What is the easiest way to transfer music, photo and word documents from my PC to my new powerbook? Will they be recognized?
Any information would be greatly appreciated! Thank you so much!

    Hello.
--with my new PB, my HP deskjet 960 works great. The PB had the drivers already installed.
--you can get a student discount to purchase Office 2004 for Mac if you don't want to purchase iWorks. Your PB will have a trial verson of iWorks on it to try out. You can also use Simple Text, but the formatting doesn't always hold up in a MS Word environment.

  • Old computer crashed, how can I use my ipod mini on my new computer. I no longer have the original itunes software cd.

I have an ipod mini. My computer crashed and no longer have software. Can I still use my mini to go into itunes and buy music? I have a new computer, windows 7. Thanks.

Yes, you should still be able to use your iPod Mini on your new Windows 7 PC. Simply download iTunes from Apple's website and you should be good to go.  You don't need the original software that came with it anymore as it's now bundled with the iTunes application.

  • Factory Original PowerBook RAM?

What brand of RAM did Apple ship with the PowerBook G4 15" 1.5ghz, and is this the same RAM you would get if you bought RAM through the Apple Store? Looking to upgrade my RAM, and from all of the headaches other people have had with PowerBooks and RAM upgrades it seems like the best route would to be to get the same RAM that the PowerBook originally shipped with.
    PowerBook G4 15" 1.5Ghz   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

    Welcome to the Apple discussions.
Last year, Apple was using Samsung memory. Apple would love to sell you additional memory, as you generally pay twice what you could buy it for on the open market.
Generally, the only time people have difficulties with RAM is when they try to go cheap. We know the PB's architecture is RAM-sensitive. If you stick with known brands, three of which are Samsung, Crucial, and Kingston, you should be OK. Crucial, www.crucial.,com, guarantees its RAM will work as long as you use their web site memory selector. I'd expect Kingston would too (note, their Valueline RAM isn't for PB). Lifetime warranty is helpful another indicator. I've used all three brands manufacturer's recommended RAM sticks in PB's, with no issues.
If you go Kingston and want to order from their website, www.kingston.com, click specials, click promotions (might have those two reversed), click notebook memory, do the machine lookup, and you'll save up to 25% off their list. They also give you prices from several other sellers.
One seller of Samsung is Other World Computing, and their memory is http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/iBooks-PowerBooks/G4-Aluminum/ Samsung is about half way down the page under the 'OWC PC2700....' category.

  • How can I replace the original HP software (not OS) on laptop modified from Vista 32 to Win7 Pro 32?

Product:  HP G60-235DX laptop purchased several years ago with Vista.
I finally went from Vista 32 to Windows 7 Pro 32 bit using the custom install function on a disk for use in refurbishing a computer.  All went well except now when I go to the HP website for driver updates, etc. it recognizes my laptop with the Win7 OS but nothing ever comes up on the list.  How can I get this to work?
Also, I would like to be able to get the HP Support software back onto this laptop so I can allow the program to run and automatically update drivers, etc.
Where can I get a copy of the Lightscribe software for the DVD/CD RW?
The original Vista recovery partition appears to exist but not sure what I can recover off of that without messing up my Windows 7 installation.
    Any help would be appreciated.

When I open your link on my Android tablet I can see everything. I'll try this link in the morning on my laptop. When I went to this area earlier today it insisted on looking for my computer and wouldn't list anything. Maybe your link allows me to avoid that issue. Thanks. I'll post results.

  • Original Powerbook 400 DVD malfunction

My original Ti 400 first generation at 10.3.9 software. The DVD player works fine, but if I use the fast forward, I get Fractaled thumbnail pictures in the background, and the cursor morphs into a garbled thumbnail of text, obscuring the arrow cursor. What are the options for upgrading to a more modern dvd player, I can't find any current DVD updates for this machine.
    John

Hi, bwano. The Drive Compatibility Database at www.xlr8yourmac.com contains user reports on many different optical drives that have been installed in Tibooks. There are now dozens of options with a huge variety of features. Note that your "Mercury" Tibook model uses (and requires) an optical drive mounting bracket that is not used in the three later Tibook generations, so you'll need to make sure the drive you choose is compatible with that bracket. I've never seen it myself, so I don't have any sense of what it looks like or what being compatible with it would entail.

  • Don't have original install software, will retail work?

Well since my last question I posted was answered quickly, I've got another one. I just installed a new HD on my iBook and I don't have the original install discs to install the OS . I tried using the install CDs from my boss's G4 iBook (I think her's might be running Tiger and mine originaly had Panther), but I got a message saying the software couldnt' be loaded onto this machine or something like that. I've done a bunch of research and it from what i've read certain G4 iBooks require special versions of OSX in order to boot. Is that true? If it is, is my only option to call Apple, give them the serial number and order new install discs or can I just go pick up a retail version of Panther or Tiger and use that? Also, do I need to format the new HD before I install the system software onto it?
    Thanks!
    Aaron

    Aaron Markwell wrote:
Thanks ypw, but what about using a retail version of Panther. I can find that online for about $48 shipped on ebay and would like to spend as little money as possible.
Most reports I hear are that if your machine came installed with a certain version of OSX, the retail version of that OS won't install.
My iBook G4 1.42 came with Tiger installed. I can only install from the Tiger discs that it came with, or a full retail version of Leopard. I've got a new MacBook with Leopard pre-installed. I understand the only means on installing OSX is to use the discs that came in the box. My retail version of Leopard won't work. That's the way Apple does it.
However - you can try contacting Apple. I've heard that they'll typically charge about $10 if you've lost the original discs or they weren't handed over with an ownership transfer. 1-800-APL-CARE (1-800-275-2273).
