Original Thinkpad X1 Cracked Glass - Where to buy a replacement LCD?

I have a Thinkpad X1 that started with a hairline crack in the glass, which then spread to the entire screen.   I sent it to Lenovo after being told it was covered under warranty, and was then quoted $750 for the repair. Obviously I'm having it sent back.  I would have no problem replacing the screen myself, but I can't find it anywhere. The actual LCD underneath the glass is undamaged, but it appears that the LCD/Glass comes as one part,  and cannot be purchased separately. Lenovo lists the part (LCD Assembly) as 04W1768, which turns up very few results in a google search. .Lenovo does list it for sale for $450 or so, but it's out of stock. The rest of the online stores I've found just list an X1 13.3" screen (Not the part number) and show a stock picture and can't verify whether the glass is included.
Does anyone know where to find a replacement screen, or have any experience with this issue on an X1? I've spent hours searching, and this is the most difficult to find PC part I've ever encountered!
Thanks,
Peter

  • Where to buy a replacement battery?

    I have a 17" MacBook Pro with the dreaded exploding battery. Apple is unwilling to replace the D E F E C T I V E part.
Where can I get a GOOD replacement battery, preferable not from Apple?
After 7 home apple computers (about one every two years - that is not quality), base stations, ipods - I think I'm done with their products. In the last few years I had two logic boards go, broken hinges, I've just accepted the fact and went and got a new one.
These defective batteries are a real problem.

    Hi JCHall,
Can you tell us more about the battery? How old is the computer? Is it the original battery? Does the unit have Applecare on it or did it recently expire?
From my experience, Apple is usually pretty flexible when it comes to batteries. Typically they'll decline a replacement if the unit is outside of the one-year limited hardware warranty (no Applecare) or outside the 3-year Applecare coverage window. That seems pretty reasonable...
Another scenario is if the battery is considered depleted/consumed. I've had three batteries that as a result of high cycle charges began to expand because they were depleted, not defective.

  • Where to buy a replacement battery for iPod 5?

Unfortunately, I wanted to play music in my car when we went on a road trip, it was fully charged but I wanted the music to keep on playing. It was on for almost 15 hours. It was a stupid mistake, and now every time I charge it fully, an hour later, the battery life is already cut down in half. It is frustrating to keep on constantly charging it, and it makes it harder to use if I have something important to do but it keeps on losing battery life. I put it on the lowest brightness, turned off all apps, and did many other things to try and prevent it from losing too much battery life, but I think it's already "exhausted" enough. I still have about 160 something days left on my warranty, and I read on here, that I am able to have a free replacement if the warranty is still active. Do I have to get it at an Apple store? Or can I order it online somehow?

    Skydiver...
Totally outside my bailiwick since I have no iPhone, but is it not true that one could purchase that fine device from a cell service provider like AT&T or T-Mobile? In every case I can think of, no matter what product it may be, warranty service starts at the original PoP?
Not knowing how or where it was purchased, I said what I said. Genius Bar my well be the route.
    best regards

  • Where to buy imac G5 LCD display 17in

    Hi,
I need to replace my imac G5 display. It develops two approx 1.5in black blobs at the bottom left screen, after rainwater got into it and seep into it.
I have dismantled the imac and got access to the LCD. Remove the rust spots on the frame and check that it is dry. Put everything back but I dont seem able to remove the blobs and some vertical lines.
The problem is confined to the right half of the screen..and the blobs and vertical lines are stable (not growing).
I think if I replace with a good LCD display, I should be able to get back my Imac into shape.
Anyone has experience replacing the imac G5 LCD. (D-I-Y).

  • Where to buy headpho

I have zen micro and there is a distorting noise comes out of my left headphone when I play high bass songs, Looked in accessories section couldn't find the original micro headphones, any idea where to buy it's.

You don't need to use Creative's headphones. You can use any headphones, but I would recommend you get relati'vely small and efficient ones. Sony's EX5/7s are fantastic, if you like canal type "in the ear" headphones.

  • Where to buy TV out adaptor?

    Hi all,
Does anyone know where to buy a replacement for the TV out adaptor that came with my MSI Ti4200 GFORCE4 video card?  It's the standard ps/2 looking 9 pin connection into the card and rca and svideo on the other side.
I've tried to ask at my local computer stores, but they just looked at me like I fell out of the sky.  Any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance...

It's been my experience, with most of the comp shops I've dealt with anyway, that when I ask where to buy those optional trinkets that I thought I should have gotten (and wanted in the first place) with the video card that they'd just give me a blank look and shrug their shoulders. Thus leading me to return the item for a refund and going out to find the real deal. I did that for a time and then found myself being one of those comp shops a few years back. Lo and behold I had a guy come in and ask me the same question. I really didn't want to give him the blank look so I took his name and number and I called the manufacturer directly and asked them where to get the optional equipment. The guy was real helpful and lead to me a better wholesaler that I bought from because he gave me just what I asked for when buying product to sell to my customers. I would try contacting Tech Support and asking them where to obtain one if I were you. Here's their email address: [email protected]
    Hope they can help you.

  • Where to buy Canon original accessories ??

The original boxes with some accessories of my new purchase. 7D Mk2 and 24 70 F4IS were taken by somebody from my front porch. (My bad. I put the Canon boxes inside a snow thrower box. The big box was left outside the front porch pending sorting for disposal and it was gone in an hour)
Now, I just have the camera and lens plus chargers and caps. Everything else is gone.
I am looking to buy back whatever is missing. I have emailed Canon e-store but have not received reply from them. Any suggestions where to buy back the missing cable protector, USB cable, disc, lens hood, lens pouch and others.
    Thanks for any experience shared.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I'm trying to figure out what "everything else" is that's gone missing.
The lens would have included a storage bag, the lens hood, and a front & back cap.  It would have also included an instruction sheet (you can download that electronically) and the warranty card (but you can register that online and don't need the card.)
You can get a list of everything that would have been in the box here:  http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/consumer/products/cameras/slr_cameras/eos_7d_mark_ii#BoxContent
    Basically it would have had
    - camera body (which you have)
    - body cap (not sure if you have that, but that's easily replaced)
    - Canon wide strap for 7D II (and this would have had a small rubber eyepiece cover on the strap for taking long exposure shots.  But if you've attached that to the camera -- and most people do -- then I suspect you still have that.
    - Battery charger LC-E6 (but I think you said you have that)
    - Battery LP-E6N (but I suspect that was probably in your camera if you have the camera - so hopefully that's fine)
    - USB interface cable (you probably lost that, but fortunately it's easily replaced and it's a standard cable you could pick up most anywhere.  Just make sure the USB cable has the USB "mini" connector on the camera side AND that (very important) the cable is not a "charging" cable.  These cables are often used for charging mobile phones and those cables typically don't wire the data pins... just the power pins.  The camera needs a cable with "data" pins.
    - Digital Solutions Disk (downloadable at Canon website - no loss there.  In fact the download is probably more current than the disk.)
    - Instruction manual (also downloadable)
    - Warranty card (but you can register the camera online and do not need the physical warranty card.)

my iPhone5's display,Corning Gorilla Glass, oleophobic coating, was broken/web cracked. Where can I avail a repair? I live in the Philippines.

Thank you. I will have to sell it on Ebay and hopefully get some money for it I'm so sad about it. I hate losing money like that.
It actually seemed fine in the fist 2 weeks, but this image retention problem seems to have got worse and worse in time. I can now barely do anything for more than a couple of minutes and it's burnt in. And I can see it now if I play a movie. Luckily it goes after a few minutes more.
My main problem is the dirty look though, and I didn't notice that until a month or so after I bought the screen. Some things really bring out the worst of it, and most of the time it isn't noticeable. But if I'm playing a game that looks bad on the screen, the entire time I am playing that game will look bad.
    Oh well

  • I7 iMac Arrives With Cracked Glass. Apple Customer Service Acts Suspect.

So the i7 iMac arrives. Excited and scared — because I've heard all the stories about "bad iMacs" being delivered. I unpack it and place it on the top to admire it's girth and beauty. It truly is glorious! I remove the static sleeve and begin to remove the plastic cover. That's when I noticed it. A crack in the glass. Like everyone reports. Bottom left corner. About 1" long and 1/4" wide. It's as if something applied pressure in a weak spot during production and packaging. I checked the foam sleeve to see where it falls. The crack is covered by the foam so it has to be in production.
So I call Apple Customer Support and explain. Long story short, I took the option to have the glass replaced at an Apple Store rather than exchange it for a new one and gamble the same outcome. I explained what it looked like and what I've read. I also described the box condition — perfect, no damage. The ACS rep said, "Wow. I'm sorry to hear that. I have not heard about this." Then he began to question me on how I unpacked the iMac. Followed by a question as to if I had accidentally banged in on a table corner. I understand they must ask these questions however, I was becoming a little upset at the implications.
After being put on hold three times, he finally stated that I could take it to an Apple Store for a repair or ship it back for replacement. I chose repair. Replacement is to much of a gamble.
I've posted a photo of the crack for people to compare — and any Apple monitors of this board — to see what's going on.

There is another thread in here where the poster says he lay the box on its side on his desk and carefully slid the iMac out of the box. Unfortunately whilst doing this, the styrofoam slipped from the iMac and the iMac fell 2 inches onto the desk.
His iMac had a crack in the glass. Was this caused by the drop onto the desk or prior to being packed? No one can say for sure. His box was undamaged too.
I opened mine vertically and a friend and I lifted the iMac carefully out of the box supporting the iMac's full weight, then carefully placed it upright onto a desk and finally removed the ultra sticky plastic film (very slowly).
iMac i5 - no cracked glass.
Fortunately for the other poster, Apple agreed to replace the item.
I'm happy that you're getting your iMac sorted out, but to other readers thinking of buying or unpacking their new iMac's, remove them from the box in a vertical position, supporting the rear and base of the iMac (hands nowhere near the glass). Better safe than sorry.
If the glass is cracked you can then tell Apple it was unpacked, by 2 people, from the box in a vertical position. This may allow Apple to remove unpacking as a potential cause of the cracks some people are experiencing and narrow down the quality issue (if there is a quality issue - I'm not accusing anyone honest, so don't have a go - just covering all bases)

  • Cracked glass on mini ipad - recommendations?

What can you do for cracked glass on ipad mini?

If your iPod Touch, iPhone, or iPad is Broken
Apple does not fix iDevices. Instead, they exchange yours for a refurbished or new replacement depending upon the age of your device and refurbished inventories. On rare occasions when there are no longer refurbished units for your older model, they may replace it with the next newer model.
ATTN: Beginning July 2013 Apple Stores are now equipped to do screen repairs/replacements in-house on iPhone 5 and 5C. In some cases while you wait. According to Apple this is the beginning of equipping Apple Stores with the resources needed to do most repairs for iPhones, iPads, and iPod Touches that would not require major replacements. Later in the year the services may be extended as Apple Stores become equipped and staffed with the proper repair expertise. So, if you need a screen repaired or a broken screen replaced or have your stuck Home button fixed, call your local Apple Store to see if they are now doing these in-house.
You may take your device to an Apple retailer for help or you may call Customer Service and arrange to send your device to Apple:
Apple Store Customer Service at 1-800-676-2775 or visit online Help for more information.
To contact product and tech support: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes international calling numbers.
You will find respective repair costs in the appropriate link:

There are third-party firms that do repairs on iDevices, and there are places where you can order parts to DIY if you feel up to the task:

    2. Buy and replace screen yourself: iFixit

  • Where can I buy a replacement power supply (model VP-09500018-000) for my 1st generation Time Capsule?

My 1st Time Capsule no longer powers on!  It was making noises for a while before it would no longer keep power / turn on!   I have taken the time capsule apart and could easily replace the power supply if I knew where to buy it   Can anyone lead me in the right direction?
    Thank you!

Apple do not supply it as a part.
You can repair the existing supply.
    https://sites.google.com/site/lapastenague/a-deconstruction-of-routers-and-modem s/apple-time-capsule-repair/apple-time-capsule-repair-type2
Plenty of people sell the caps set on ebay. Cheaper if you have a good electronics store handy but they need to be top quality low esr capacitors.
Substitute a different kind of power supply.
I definitely believe in using external power supply for this job. This is my own website so disclaimer.
    https://sites.google.com/site/lapastenague/time-capsule-power-supply-repair-kits
Or some original type are available on ebay. Just search for "Time Capsule power supply"
Or look at what a whole second hand TC will cost you.. a Gen3 or Gen4 can be a better proposition than repairing a dead Gen1.
You can also do a half repair.. By that I mean you only need one voltage to run the TC.. a single 5v 3A power supply plugged into the TC board socket or soldered directly in.. will give you an airport extreme Gen2 for $10. Plug the hard drive in by USB.. or use a bit of careful hacking and use a SATA cable to the post on the board and use a 2TB or even 3TB esata case.
You can also still buy a Cisco dual voltage supply on ebay.. but the wiring of it is a bit rough.

  • Where to buy the MSI GS70 2OD-002US in Europe ?

    Hi,
I live in Portugal (Europe), and very excited to purchase this laptop, but... with some dificulties trying to get answers to some questions.
1st the 5 physical local stores listed in MSI website after I click "Where to Buy", all replied to my emails saying MSI doesn't sell laptop anymore in Portugal.
2nd I discovered amazon.com is selling it but not amazon.co.uk.. I emailed amazon.co.uk asking if they were thinking selling it, they forward my questions to amazon.com which basically said "we dont control how much you will pay in Customs".
Some 10 companies in UK replied to me saying they only ship to UK mainland.
Till now, started getting a bit frustated in how can be such an awesome machine in a global internet connected world be so hard to get answers and best way to purchase it without needing to pay a flight to UK or some other country to buy it..
So here it is my original list of questions I mailed trying to understand the purchase process:
    1) I live in Europe(Portugal) and would like to buy the following laptop:
    *MSI GS70 2OD-002US*
    2) Does it exists with Portuguese Keyboard ?
    3) When is it available to be purchased in Europe ?
    4) Where can I buy it online so that it can be sent to Portugal ? And will it be possible online to choose options on the
    configuration ? I heard about 2 configs: 2x SSD of 128GB and a 2nd config using 2x SSD's of 256GB ?
    5) Where can I buy it offline in a physical shop in Ireland ? (Since seems MSI doesn't sell laptop anymore in Portugal, I got some family living in Ireland so could be a good family visit + laptop purchase trip)
    6) How does work the support in Europe ? In case of malfunction/problem will I have to mail Laptop to the country where MSI have its support center for Europe ?
    7) What is the "dead pixel" policy on this laptop ? In case I buy this laptop online and it arrives with "dead pixel" will I be able to return it for replacement ? If no, then it will be better to buy it in a physical store where I can check for "dead pixels" before purchase ?
    Thanks in advance ~
Greetings everyone on this form which was kindly refered to me from MSI reply to my email, and look forward to learn some new informations and understand where to purchase, how to choose config, the Portuguese keyboard and so on.
    Cheers,
    Zen
