Originally Installed Programs

I cannot locate the original program CDs that were laoaded on my computer when I bought it. Did I misplace them or were they never included in my purchase? How can I get duplicate CDs in case I need to reload the programs in the future?

  • Install programs form the recovery disk to the upgraded windows

    hi
I have HP G60-230us and I've upgraded form windows vista to windows 7. I used to use the programs which came with the computer. but when i upgraded to windows 7 all the programs were deleted. I need these programs.
Can I install these programs from the recovery-disks to the new windows?

No, the recovery disks will only put your computer back to the condition it came from the factory which is Vista.  Did you actually do an upgrade or clean install.  If you truly did an upgrade you should have a folder on your C drive titled SWSetup.  This folder has all the originally installed programs.  If you did a clean install and lost all the programs and the SWSetup folder then you may have lost these programs.......unless they are available at the HP website.  Go to hp.com and click Support and Drivers and enter your part number or model and you will find most of the programs and drivers are available for download.

Call Apple and make a appointment.

Do you still have access to the old MacBook Pro? If so, you can transfer the license by copying the com.apple.iwork.plist from Macintosh HD > Library > Preferences to the same location on the new Mac. Note that this IS the main HD Library, not your user library. I have found that these files are not moved during setup or migration.
Are you really running Tiger 10.4.7? If so, you should update to 10.4.11. You can find the updater here. You also might consider buying the retail disk of iWork '09 from a third-party such as Amazon.com or eBay. It will add a lot of features for you. iWork '09 does require Tiger 10.4.11 at a minimum.

It's sounding a bit like a problem with your Apple Software Update.
Restart the PC. Now go into your Uninstall a program control panel. Can you see Apple Software Update in the list of programs? If so, select Apple Software Update and click "Repair".
If the repair goes through okay, can you get the updates to go through properly now?

  • How do I install OS 10.7 NOT 10.7.5 on a mac running Snow Leopard 6.8  i.e. where can I find the original install app for Lion OS 10.7.0?

I'm running 10.6.8 Snow Leopard fine on my MacPro1,1, Dual-Core Intel Xeon, 2.66 GHz  Mac, but I need to install Lion 10.7.0 to run a program I need. How do I install OS 10.7 NOT 10.7.5, because I get this message when I try to install 10.7.5, which I've downloaded:"This update requires Mac OS X version 10.7." on a mac running Snow Leopard 10.6.8, So i need to install the original 10.7.0 over the 10.6.8  i.e. where can I find the original install app for Lion OS 10.7.0? The original Lion 10.7. is not avaialable for purchase from the App store or anywhere,  even C-Net . Where can I find it to purchase?
Also it seems I cannot install Mountain Lion over 10.6.8 as advertised. When I go to purchase I get this message: "We could not complete your purchase. OS X Mountain Lion is not compatible with this computer."   I think my computer can handle it (specs above) Are there any workarounds to this?

If you're getting a "This update requires Mac OS X version 10.7" message, than you have the updater and not the full installer. Go to your Purchases section of the Mac App Store and you should see the full version there. But it may be 10.7.5, though in my system is shows as being from 2011 which would appear to be the original version.
As to Mountain Lion, that's supported only on the Early 2008 Mac Pro or newer.
    Regards.

  • How does installing programs work when user folder moved to separate drive?

    Hi everyone
I have my user folder on a separate drive from my boot drive.
I have set up a new installation of OS X on a third drive and pointed the main account's user folder on that third drive to the user folder drive.
This means that the dock that shows up when I boot off that third drive contains aliases linking to programs on the ordinary boot drive.
If I install programs on the third drive and make aliases in the dock, will that cause a conflict when I boot off the ordinary boot drive?
And if I remove from the dock aliases linking to the ordinary boot drive, will they then disappear when booted off the ordinary boot drive?
    Thanks for any insight.
    /p

    I tried that.
    1) I created a standard user account called "Test."
    2) While logged in as Test I edited the sidebar. Then I logged out and back in again to confirm that the settings were retained. They were.
    3) While logged in as Test I copied the user folder from SystemDisk/Users/Test to DataDisk/Users/Test.
    4) I logged out of Test and logged in as Admin.
    5) I changed the home directory for the Test account to /Volumes/DataDisk/Users/Test.
    6) I deleted the directory at SystemDisk/Users/Test.
    7) I logged out of Admin and logged in as Test.
    8) I edited the sidebar. Then I logged out and back in again to see if the settings were retained. They were not.
    9) I repeated steps 3-7, this time moving the home directory back to its original location at SystemDisk/Users/Test.
    10) Again I edited the sidebar, logged out and logged back in again. This time the settings were retained, just as they had been before I moved the directory in the first place.
Since the functionality returns when I move the home directory back to the system disk, I've concluded that it is not due to any corruption of library files or such. It seems to be a problem with the location of home directory.
V.K., in your configuration, is the account with the moved home directory an Admin account or a Standard account? I have not tested this with an admin account and I suppose that might make a difference.

  • INSTALLED PROGRAMS

I have found 4 seemingly identical Microsoft C++2008 Redistributable programs installed and 2 2010.  I wonder if some are redundant and are not needed.

Can you please tell me if any have been replaced and should be removed to help speed up my pc?

As far as I know the redistributable packages are required to run applications created by Visual Studio.
I don't know how many companies in the world use Microsoft Visual Studio to create the applications they sell or some even provide free of charge but I would guess it's alot. I suspect Microsoft probably uses Visual Studio for that though.
Perhaps all of those were not originally installed on your computer. And I'm not app installing guru but I do use Visual Studio to program with in the Visual Basic language. If I decide to create an installer so I can give somebody a program to install on
their computer there are certain prerequisites the installer can detect to see if they exist on the computer the application will be installed on. One would be a version of .Net Framework compatable for whichever version of .Net Framework my application was
created under. I suppose others would be the particular redistributable that my program would need to run on the PC it is to be installed on.
If prerequisites are not found and the computer has an internet connection the installer can download and install, with the permission of whoever is installing my app on their computer, any prerequisites such as .Net Framework or one of those redistributables
so that my application can then be installed on the PC and will run (athough the PC may need to be rebooted prior to running the application).
So maybe alot of those are on your computer because programs you have placed on your computer installed those, which they can also do from their installation disk if the redistributables ISO is on the applications install disk.
If you delete any of those it's entirely possible various programs will no longer be able to run on your system.
FYI read this link to get an idea about those.

  • Installed Programs - which programs to uninstall?

    Hi,
I am not tech savvy.  I am here on advice from below link (Windows Community Forum) to post my Question here at MSDN forum.  So, I am also not sure about the category and Forum I have chosen :-).  Pl. guide me to the right Forum, if this is
    wrong.

    I'll repeat my query here:
I find a lot of (about 16) Microsoft programs installed in my HP Windows 7 laptop.  I need advice whether I need to keep all of them or if I could 'Uninstall' any of them.  If they do not in any way affect my PC performance, or internet usage,
I don't mind keeping them. Here are the list of programs:
    A. Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable (4 Nos.)
    B. Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable (6 Nos.)
    C. Microsoft Visual Studio tools for Applications 2.0 (2 Nos.)
    D. Microsoft_VC90_CRX_x86
    E. Visual Studio 2008 x64 Redistributables
    F. Visual Studio 2012 x64 Redistributables
    G. Visual Studio 2012 x86 Redistributables
Pl. advice if any of the above may be beneficially Uninstalled.  Thanks in advance.

  • Original install disc won't work!

Hey all, I am trying to take my eMac back down to OSX 10.2, which is the original OSX that it came with when I bought it. It had tiger on it and I can not get the original install disc to boot when I try and do a restart while pressing "C". On startup, it goes to the screen that says "You computer needs to be restarted, press your on button for several seconds". So, I just used DBAN to completely wipe the HD, hoping that would help it, since maybe it was having trouble since tiger was still on there. The HD is now completely wiped blank and the disc still won't mount. I put in my Leopard disc just to see if that would work and it booted right up and was ready to start installing. Why won't the original disc work? The disc looks brand new, there are no scratches or anything like that on it. Any ideas? Thanks for any input!

I'd need to check notes i don't have with me at the moment, but if I recall correctly, part of the update from 10.2 to 10.4 on an eMac involved a firmware update, which could be why you can't boot to the 10.2 disc anymore.
Most OS 9 programs run fine under OS X 10.4 using Classic. You could try reinstalling 10.4, then put OS 9 on from your original 10.2 set of discs; the exact steps will depend on just which version of the discs you actually got. See e.g. OS X: How to Perform Mac OS 9 Clean Install and Mac OS X 10.2, 10.3: How to perform Mac OS 9 clean installation with Restore CDs

  • To run Apple Hardware Test: Original Install Disc or Snow Leopard Upgrade ?

To run AHT should I use my original install disc (10.5.5) or my SL upgrade disk?
    I am currently at 10.6.1.

You will need to run AHT from your original install disc.
AFAIK, you can't find this program on any retail disks, i.e., the SL upgrade.
This makes some sense, I guess, since the hardware test would be very machine specific.

  • Quick Install program won't let me change user

Hi thanks ahead of time for your assistance.
I have two organizers maintained on one computer.  A Z22 for my son (hand me down) and a Palm TX for me (upgraded from the original Z22 through the upgrade option).  I finally added user names for syncing for the calender/contacts ect and everything was working fine until I tried to use the Quick Install program.
Quick install refuses to acknowledge any user but me so it won't install on the Z22 (though it tries and goes all the way through hotsync including having quick install remove the software from the addit menu).
I looked at his PALM folder and there is no quick install folder so I tried making a copy of it just to see.
Is there any way to add a user to quick install the help hints that you can "change users at will" but it just doesn't list his user profile as a choice in quick install though it does everywhere else.
    Post relates to: Palm TX

I assume this computer runs Windows XP.
How many users have Windows Logons?
Who is Logged On when you try to sync your son's Z22?
Hint: Never, ever use Switch User.

I want to download programs to my user account on my laptop without the other peoples accounts having access to it. How do you specify only to download to this account, or change the settings of past installed programs to only be accessible to my account and not the others

As Csound1 has already pointed out create a folder in your Home folder for only those applications that you want exclusive access to like this one in my Home folder:
For those application that have an installer, you'll need to install and then move the app from the Applications folder to your own app folder.
