Orinoco silver wireless driver in Solaris 10

Hi
Does Solaris 10 support orinoco silver wireless cards ?
I have one with a pcmcia PCI bridge adapter.
I can try to use it with solaris ?
Thanks in advance
roberto

  • Wireless Driver for 10.3.9

Hi, I have been using an Orinoco Silver card with OS 10.2.8, using OS X driver from sourceforge.net. I have just upgraded to OS 10.3.9 and now my Pismo does not recognize my card. I assume the driver I used before is not compatiable with 10.3.9. Could anyone please kindly let me know what driver could I download? I have downloaded/installed the driver from orangeware.com but still my Pismo does not recognize my Orinoco card. I can see the driver in the System Preference Panel. Could it be because my card is only for 802.11b, that's why the driver will not work?
I am thinking of buying the Buffalo WLI-CB-AG54 AirStation card. I think this will work with 10.3.9 as I read from a previous post by jpl. Will I need an additional driver for this card and where could I download it from?
Also if I do so, will I be able to use this card for wireless connection when I use my Classic or boot up from OS 9.2.2?
    Any comments/suggestions/assistance are much appreciated.
    Thank you.
    Thomas

    Thomas,
Knowing which wireless PC card you have plus the version of OSX you are running is critical for a successful configuration.
The Orinoco wireless card is 802.11b, not 802.11g; you successfully used the card in 10.2.x with the SourceForge drivers. This driver only supports (b) cards; it was written for 10.2.x but some have used it successfully in 10.3.x, others have not. •IF• you wish to use the Orinoco card (for now), reinstall the SourceForge driver and see if it works.
Before doing anything else, uninstall/remove the Orangeware driver...this driver is NOT for you. Go to the website > Support and it will discuss uninstalling the driver.
If after removing the Orangeware driver and reinstalling SourceForge, your Orinoco PC card does not work, try the driver from MacSense or iOXperts. These ONLY support (b) wireless cards, not (g).
    http://www.macsense.com/product/broadband/aerouni_b.html
    http://www.ioxperts.com/products/80211b_X.html
If you want to move to the (g) 54Mbps cards and you want to buy the Buffalo AirStation, Apple's onboard AirPort software already supports this card...no additional drivers needed.

  • OS X Wireless Driver  Question;

    Hello,
I am curious. How may one activate OS X drivers that may not wish to activate for thinking it is not a certain iBook or PowerBook? Why you may ask? I have been using my Orinoco silver so very happily with OS X.3.9 with the hard work of developers from http://wirelessdriver.sourceforge.net/ . The thing is, I happened to come on to reading this following article : http://geektechnique.org/projectlab/662/diy-airport-for-an-old-ibook
Why is it, that one can have the same wireless card and it not be recognized by OS X. Is it becasue the driver is noted not to activate the card through the PCMCIA slot or is it merely that the driver does not activate noting it is Lombard vs. iBook ? Your insight would be appreciated. Thank you for your help and time.
    PowerBook G3 Lombard   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

    Farbod,
I think you may be correct regarding internal card slot versus the PCMCIA card slot. AirPort software apparently only looks for the original AirPort card (Orinoco chipset) in an internal card slot, and this started with the Pismo and newer powerbooks. Somewhere in the various releases of OSX Apple added support for 802.11g WiFi PC cards that use the Broadcom chipset, the same chipset that Apple uses in its Extreme AirPort. I am not up-to-date on the latest AirPort hardware but I have seen various references to the Atheros chipset now being used by Apple. I currently have a Buffalo 54Mbps (g) PC card in my Wallstreet which uses the Broadcom chipset and the card is fully supported by AirPort.
As long as you use the Orinoco PC card, you will be stuck with a third-party driver when running OSX. Interestingly, Apple did support the Orinoco PC card in 9.x, but not 10.x...go figure.

  • Compatible WIFI card for Thinkpad a21m, wifi orinoco silver no longer working

Thank you for having this forum available.
My husband passed down his Thinkpad A21M Type 2628-GTU to our son. The wifi card that was with it is a Lucent Technologies Orinoco Silver 11mbit/s t/n 03549501 p/n012938/c. When powered up last night, the ethernet was fully functional, but the wireless card didn't connect to the net. My husband assumed the Lucent card was bad. Is there something compatible I may buy to replace it? Do you have a suggestion on what he might have missed in trying to get it to work at home?
He has used this laptop all over the country including at home before, so I would imagine he knows what he is doing. But, we do have a new service provider since the company upgraded his computer system.
    Thank you so much!

    Welcome to the forum!
Honestly, it's time to upgrade to a newer card anyway, at least b/g. Any PCMCIA wireless card will work with your A21m, it all depends on your router, and your personal preferences.
    Hope this helps.

    George

  • How to connect a wireless drive and stream to my stereo through MacBook. I currently have a non apple WiFi network

I currently have a PC based WiFi network and am about to buy a MacBook Pro. I have 250 gb iTunes library and 100+ gb of photos. What I was going to get is the 120gb MacBook and run an external drive to store the iTunes library and photos. For intensive photographic work I'd directly connect the drive but day to day I'd connect it to the wireless network. What I want to do is to stream my music, from the wireless drive to my stereo
Will the drive work this way on my existing router - usb2 connected? Or do I need an apple device.  Should I use an airport or Apple TV to connect to the stereo?
I also want to have the option of streaming from my iPhone.

Hard to say when you don't give us a clue what you current router is??
USB2 is slow.. it is double slow from a network device.. and even slower if that network device doesn't actually have too much CPU power or RAM..
Even worse is the idea to move the disk from the network to the local external port.. because then format comes into play.. Apple devices can use FAT32.. yuk.. but really want HFS+.. most routers cannot talk HFS+ except apple ones.. they want NTFS or FAT32.. You can see where this is going.. buy two disks.. one for library.. one for a scratch disk .. usb3 will be great.. or thunderbolt even better. And when finished copy your project to the network drive..
Think carefully about backups.. they are important too.. might be time to invest in a real NAS. Not toy systems with USB.. dangling off them.

    Hi All,
Looks like it was a driver / incompatibility / unsupported issue since 2 other much smaller USB keys (Lexar USB Flash Drive – 32GB, SanDisk Cruzer Colors – 4GB) were successfully mounted automatically by volfs service as follows:
    # df -h
Filesystem             size   used  avail capacity  Mounted on
    /dev/dsk/c1t0d0s0      5.1G   4.0G   1.1G    78%    /

/vol/dev/dsk/c2t0d0/unnamed_rmdisk:c    29G    96K    29G     1%    /rmdisk/unnamed_rmdiskIt also appears that the Device status of Not Ready from “iostat –En” below may not be correct either since both smaller drives are working fine:

Make sure that you create the /rmdisk directory and restart vold. That should enable your zip drive to be mounted. It'll pop-up on your desktop automagicly. You can read more about it on docs.sun.com.

  • Installing nfo-1.1.2 ethernet driver in Solaris 10 3/05

    Hi,

If you can help me, please do it in a step-by step manner because as I said, besides being dumb I'm also new to Solaris. My processor is an AMD ATHLON 64.
By the way I like the looks of this OS, the way it boots up, and its security and reliability.
Thank you very much for your help.

    Thanks,

    [email protected]
    1. Introduction
This is the nForce ethernet NIC driver for Solaris. It is distributed
    under the BSD license.
    2. Specification of the driver
File name of the driver: /kernel/drv/nfo
Special file name: /dev/nfoN (Where N is a unit number, typcally 0 for first
    card)
    For example
    % ifconfig nfo0
    Tested OS version
    Solaris10 x86 3/05
    Tested mainboard
    Biostar NF4UL-A9 (nVIDIA nForce4 CH8-04 Ultra chipset)
    3. Preparing for installation
    (1) Copy source and binary files.
    # gunzip -cd nfo-x.x.x.tar.gz | tar xf -
    (2) Add hostname for the NIC into /etc/hosts file
    (3) Make links to the correct binary directory and Makefile according
to your configuration. i386 and gcc are default.
    % cd /.../nfo-x.x.x
    % rm obj Makefile
    % ln -s Makefile.${KARCH}_${COMPILER} Makefile
    % ln -s ${KARCH} obj
where ${KARCH} is the result of `isainfo -n`, and ${COMPILER} is
"gcc" or "suncc" which you want to use to make the driver.
    (4) Making binaries (only for re-compiling the drivers by your self)
To make the binaries, you need Sun C compiler or gcc version 3, and do
    the following operations.
         % /usr/ccs/bin/make
    4. Testing
Testing before installation is strongly recommended.
    # cd /.../nfo-x.x.x
    # /usr/ccs/bin/make install
    # ./adddrv.sh
    # /usr/ccs/bin/make uninstall (for solaris7, don't remove the file )
    # modload obj/nfo
    # devfsadm -i nfo (for solaris7, use drvconfig and reboot with -r )
    # ifconfig nfoN plumb ( where N is an instance number, typcally 0 for first card)
    # ifconfig -a ( you will see an entry for nfoN)
    # ifconfig nfoN YOUR-HOST-NAME
    # ifconfig nfoN ( ensure IP address is correct)
    # ifconfig nfoN up ( and then you can test with ping, telnet, ftp ...)
    5. Installation
After you ensure that the nfo driver is fully functional, install it.
    (1) install the nfo driver into the kernel directory
    # cd /.../nfo-x.x.x
    # /usr/ccs/bin/make install
If you do not test the nfo driver yet, execute the following commands:
    # ./adddrv.sh
    # devfsadm -i nfo (for solaris7, use drvconfig and reboot with -r)
    (2) Configure the network interface. Create and/or modify the following file:
    /etc/hostname.nfoN
    (3) Reboot the system.
    # init 6
According to the author it seems that he included precompiled binaries in the file but I can't find them. Probably don't know what to look for. I have an ATHLON 64 based computer.
The best option for me would be buying a ethernet card that's supported under solaris 10 and save the hassel of compiling the program. For experts I'm sure this would be easy, but I'm not an expert; in fact, I'm new to Solaris and don't know much about compiling software.
    Thanks.

  • Install RTL8139 driver in Solaris 10

    Dear All,
I am new to solaris 10. plz explain me where can i get RTL8139 LAN driver for solaris
10 and how to install the same.
    Thank you in Advance.
    Regards
    P.Bharathiraja.

You start by looking in Sun's Hardware Compatibility List (HCL) for Solaris.
In there, you will see that you have three choices for the 8139x chipset.
You let the NIC be recognized natively during the OS installation (it just works), or you can use Realtek's driver from their web site, or you can use the third-party drivers hosted on Masayuki Murayama's site.
The downloads from Realtek and from the Murayama site include README files with instructions.

  • Mounting a UFS formated USB drive on Solaris 10

[Hope this is the correct place to post this question]
I connected my 160 GB external usb hard drive to my V240 Solaris 9 server, ran newfs (ufs), mounted it, and wrote data to the drive with no problems.
I moved it to another sparc box with Solaris 10 (build 74-1) and tried mounting it, but no luck. The logical path for the usb drive shows up in "/dev/dsk" after running "devfsadm -C" and it shows up as configured when running "cfgadm -al," however, when I try to mount the drive it eventually times out without mounting. I get the same results when I try this on the x86 version of Solaris 10.
I know that the drive still works by taking it back to my Solaris 9 server and mounting the drive.
Is there something special or different with mounting usb drives with Solaris 10?
    Thanks,
    Phillip

It should be the same. For instance with a usb keychain (formated pcfs):
    mkdir /usbdrive
    mount -F pcfs /dev/dsk/c3t0d0p1 /usbdrive
On this particular laptop the second usb port was. c4t0d0p1 so:
    mount -F pcfs /dev/dsk/c4t0d0p1 /usbdrive
The numbering might be different for each usb port and you have to specify the filesystem of the usb drive, but it should work.

  • ThinkPad W530 Wireless Driver Not Available for Download

    I have a ThinkPad W530 laptop running Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit.  Machine type and model = 2438-4CU
When I go to the driver list on Lenovo's website and click on it to download...it's unavailable...you can't download it.  The release date shows 3/28/13
Intel Wireless LAN (11abgn, abg, bg) for Windows 7 (64-bit)  version 15.03.1000.1637
    g1w216ww_64.exe
    78.8 MB
I have also installed Lenovo's System Update and it doesn't list the wireless driver as a download option either.  I have installed all the other drivers found by the System Update tool.
Am I doing something wrong or is there an issue with this particular driver download.
    Thanks for your help...

  • Can't update my wireless driver !

    hi all
my computer is x201i 3249 cbc
last 2 weeks my computer suffered from blue screen
after counselling i found out that it is due to my wireless driver's not updated
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itproperf/thread/781bc689-7bd3-49d1-b208-6a2a4a81...
here is the conclusion (after I sent my dmp file to the helper):
The DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL bug check has a value of 0x000000D1. This indicates that a kernel-mode driver attempted to access pageable memory at a process IRQL that was too high.

On every occasion NETwNs32.sys is being shown as the problem.

I have looked on the manufacturers website and there is an updated driver for you wireless card :
    http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-70656.html
Yours is dated oct 2010 as above so depending on what card it is the newest dates are below:
Intel WIFI and WIMax 6250 - driver is 17 dec 2010
Intel Wireless Lan (bg, abg, abgn) - driver is 19 nov 2010
Thinkpad 802.11bgn Wireless LAN mini pci express adapter II - driver is 30 nov 2010
the message mainly says that my driver date is oct 18 and there are newer ones now and i also think it shall be the solution
so I went to lenove and downloaded this one:
    http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-73611
we can clearly see that its release date is 2010/11/9
then here comes the installation and what i want to ask:
first i uninstalled my older wireless driver using control panel
then i installed the newer one
but when i check it in control panel, unfortunately it still shows "driver date: 2010/10/8" which is the same as older one
no matter what new drivers i intalled, they all showed 10/8 in the control panel whatever the actual release date they have
so the blue screen just keeps troubling me
may you tell me what'sthe  reason and the solution?
put an end to this plz...(a new computer but almost crashs at least once a day)
    thank you all
    Wayne

programs, thinkvantage, system update.  if you don't already have it download it from the link and run it. it will give you a list of updated drivers for your system.  don't just download and install all of them at once, do it one at a time and reboot after each one.  if there is one for your bios, do that one first.

  • SIS 6326 driver for Solaris Intel platform

Apparently those who used a SiS 6326 chip on the graphics card
cannot find a proper driver for Solaris 8 Intel.
I am having the same problem, is there any way of resolve this problem
so I can make my graphics card work at 100% or does this mean I have to get a different graphics card which is supported by Solaris 8 Intel.

Do you know if there is any other old SiS drivers for Sun? Maybe we can make it work good (at least 50% fine) using an old driver...
PS: If you can, please answer to my email: [email protected]
    Thanks in advance...
