Orion Disk I/O test on Windows 2003 x64

Anyone know how to get Orion to work on Windows 2003 64bit? We started using it to benchmark server configurations. The install works fine but when ran, it just returns without error and does not generate any trace files.
Thanks...
F:\Orion>orion -run simple -testname mytest2 -num_disks 10
ORION: ORacle IO Numbers -- Version 10.2.0.1.0
F:\Orion>

Thank you so much for your help ruwin  I also kept getting the "Disk I/O error". It only started happening tonight. I had read other things to do - tick "show hidden files, folders, and drives" which I already had ticked. I uninstalled and reinstalled skype. This also did not work. Luckily I found your comment, and it worked! I tried deleting the DbTemp folder, but when I logged into skype it still came up with the error. So I uninstalled my version again, and installed the older version like you said. So thanks heaps, I now have it working again on my laptop. I guess it was just the update, as I had the 6.9 something version on it. I knew it wasn't a problem with my actual "Skype", as it still worked on my iphone. So I figured it had to be a problem with the laptop version. You just saved me a visit to the computer shop  Thanks again!

  • Oracle ODBC Driver (Windows 2003 x64 Server)

    Hi all
I have some trouble with this ODBC Driver ...
I have installed Oracle Client 10.2.0.1.0 with the ODBC Driver and SQLplus etc.
Now I have configured in the "Net Manager" some "Service Naming" as I did
on other servers before. Then I Test the connection in the "Net Manager" it
    seams to work fine.
When I now try to connect in SQL Plus the following error comes up:
ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified
    I did already do this:
    - Add "...\NETWORK\ADMIN" to the Path Variable of the server
    - sqlnet.ora looks like:
    SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES= (NTS)
    NAMES.DIRECTORY_PATH= (TNSNAMES)
    - tnsnames.ora looks like:
    MyName.WORLD =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = myDomain.net)(PORT = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SID = DBSIDxx)
What do I have to do to get this working ???
    Thanks for any comments!

    Hi All
I have applied this patch 38 for Oracle 11.1.0.7.0 on Windows 2003 x64 bit server today but the database version from v$version didn't change at all and still its showing 11.1.0.7.0, I expected it to show 11.1.0.7.5.
    Any suggestions.

  • SQL Developer on Windows 2003 x64 Edition "failed to initialize..."

I am trying to run sqldeveloper on Windows server 2003 x64 and I get the following error:
The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000018). Click on OK to terminate the application.
I get this error with the version with jre, and with the version without the jre.
I have Java 1.6 installed on that server (applet shows up under x86 control panels)
I can reproduce this on two different win 2003 x64 servers, but it works fine on a windows 2003 standard (32 bit)
Any idea how to fix this?
    thanks.

This might not be the right place to post this question, but will give it a shot . . .
I've installed JDK 1.5 and downloaded/unzipped SQL Developer on my Windows 2003 x64 server, then launched sqldevelper.bat from the advice given above -- but I get an error saying:

  • Netweaver 04 on Windows 2003 x64 (amd64)

    Hi all,
Can anybody tells me where I can find the corresponding Installation Master Software and the SAP Kernel 6.40 Unicode for installation on Windows 2003 x64 (amd64).
I can not find it on the SAP Marketplace myself.
On the PAM (Product Avalability Matrix) the software should be available but I can not find it.
Please help. It becomes very urgent.
    Kind Regards

    Hi Paul,
Normally you should find it on the following path:
Download => Installations and Upgrades => Entry by Application Group => SAP NetWeaver => SAP NETWEAVER => SAP NETWEAVER 04 => Installation and Upgrade => Windows Server => <your DB>.....
Installation Master MS SQL (for example) for the Windows X64 is a CD named 51031282...
Hope you can find the one you are looking for....

    Rolf
Ps.: If you can't see or find the right CD/DVD's it could also point to missing authorization on the Marketplace...

  • Spool server on Windows 2003 x64 ?

    Hi,
I'm installing SAP NetWeaver PI 7.1 on Windows 2003 x64 with MaxDB.
Printing Guide for SAP NetWeaver PI 7.1 states "For a Microsoft Windows XP host, choose access method C. other Microsoft Windows operating systems are not suitable for local printing, as you cannot set up a spool server on them."
However, by default, there is a spool server defined in my installation of SAP NetWeaver PI 7.1 on Windows 2003 x64.  But I see plenty of "Spool / print: Calling program reports invalid handle for TemSe object (magic==X'NULL-ptr')" errors in the system log when the background processes run every night.
Printing Guide for SAP NetWeaver 7.0 talks about a SAP spool server running on "the Microsoft Windows NT/Windows 2000 system", suggesting that Windows systems other than XP are supported for local printing.
Is that correct?  i.e. Has local printing support for Windows 2003 been removed in PI 7.1 ?
I'm surprised, and more than a little confused by this.  I'd appreciate any help/explanation.
    Regards,
    Mark

    Just a follow-up if anyone's interested...
I did try setting-up Access Method C in my NetWeaver 7.1 on Windows 2003 x64 with MaxDB and so far the local printing seems to be working OK. So, either:
    a) The Printing Guide for SAP NetWeaver PI 7.1 is wrong on this issue.
    b) The Printing Guide for SAP NetWeaver PI 7.1 is right, and this is an undocumented behavior that might break in the future.
    c) I just got lucky (and I shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth).
Also, Access Method G works fine.

Hello, I use windows 2003 x64 where is installed itunes 10.5.2.11; with ipad2 no problems to sycronize data; but the iphone is not recognized from windows (is recognized only as imaging device).  Any suggerstion found over internet don't run; if I move my iphone to another pc, running windows seven64 run  correctly.
    What I can do ?
    Thanks

    Hello,
Unless you find Windows XP 64 Bit Edition device drivers for the X220, it is likely many of the ThinkPad specific features will not work, or only provide basic functionality.  You can always disable the Desktop Composition and Themes services to give the operating system a more Classic Windows feel.

  • Disk Management shows 'unallocated' and 'online' basic disk on a 4 node Windows 2003 Cluster - Is this disk reclaimable?

We've a 4 node Windows 2003 File Share Cluster. I logged onto one of the nodes and found there are a lot of SAN connected disks that show 'Unallocated' in Disk Management as below,
Please could someone advice if these disks are unused? and reclaimable? From what I heard from Adminstrator is that, its the default behavior of Cluster and will be in use by a different node on the same cluster. If so, is there an easier way to identify
which nodes are using these disks? since it appears as though these disks are mapped to server but not being used, many thanks.

    As expected.
Things a bit clearer in current versions of Windows Server, but back in the 2003 days, that was how the shared disk was shown on the nodes that did not own the disk.  If you go to each node in the cluster and look at the same thing in each node, you
will have the same number of disks.  On the node that owns the disk, you will see it represented as you would expect.  On the nodes that do not own the disk, you will see it displayed as you have shown in your screen shot.

  • Oracle Database 10.2.0.3 on Windows 2003 x64

We are looking to migrate our 2 Oracle database servers from old Windows Server 2003 machine to our new HP-G5 Windows Server 2003 64-bits. We're using ESX Server with Windows Server 2003 Virtual Machine and our 10.2.0.2 are running fine. Some months ago a consultant warned us from installing the 10.2.0.3 upgrade for some stability bugs on Windows Servers were to be found.
As the new CPU (Jan 2008) is not available for Windows Server 2003 64-bits for Oracle 10.2.0.2, I would like to upgrade from 10.2.0.2 to 10.2.0.3. I would like to apply these patches to our OAS too. Is anyone had exprience any issue with this kind of configuration ?
    Configuration :
Database is on a Virtual Machine which we allow 4Gb RAM and a Quad Core.
    Windows Server 2003 Enterprise 64-bits.
Our Application Servers 10.2.0.2 run on Windows 2003 32-bits.
We're still using Oracle Forms & Reports 10.1.2.0.2.
We also use Oracle Discoverer 10g.
We also use a failover system with EMC Legato.

Before proceeding with the Virtual Machine, I suggest you to refer to this Metalink Note> Certified Software on Oracle VM
         Doc ID:      Note:464754.1
This doesn't seem to be a supported platform, so if you ever find an issue after upgrade you may find your production system unsupported by Oracle.

  • Installing ArcSDE 9.2 for Oracle version 10G R2 on Windows 2003 x64

We submitted this question on an ESRI user forum, but we would also like to submit it elsewhere to ensure an answer.
We are trying to install ArcSDE 9.2 for Oracle. The version of Oracle is 10G R2 (10.2.0.1). The server is a Windows 2003 R2 Enterprise x64 edition with SP1. There are now 2 instances of Oracle on the server, but this problem originally occurred when there was only one instance. The issue: ArcSDE 9.2 apparently installs just fine. There are no error messages during the run of the installation process. However, when the Post-Installation process is called, a critical error alert pops up reporting, "The application failed to start because OCI.dll was not found. Reinstalling the application might fix this problem." ArcSDE has been uninstalled and reinstalled several times. Oracle has been uninstalled and reinstalled several times. Various searches have been made, concerning this error message. On Friday the only ESRI Article we could find mentioning this error was Article ID: 25388 which stated that the "ORA81/bin" directory needed to be added to the PATH environment variable. However, today we found a new ESRI forum entry dated 6/2/2007 with the querystring "c=2&f=1717&t=223961" in which someone reported the need to install the 32 bit Oracle_HOME. However the ESRI Support Center article he referenced, (dated November 14, 2006), stated that the 32 bit Oracle Client needed to be installed to a different Oracle_HOME and the service name created for it, is to be used in the Post-Installation process. And finally our Oracle DBA reported seeing another Support Center Article which stated that the 32 bit versions of the Oracle libraries are installed by default in a different location, and it was only necessary to add that location to the PATH environment variable. I have also seen information on Oracle forums stating that this message means that the Oracle client needed to be installed, but our Oracle DBA reports that this is installed by default with Oracle DB server. My question is of course which if any of these solutions is correct?

I have managed an ORacle/ArcSDE environment for many years where multiple SIDs were running.
If it doesn't know which SID then it would indicate that it is picking up the wrong ORACLE_SID environment setting. To be honest, UNIX is an easier environment to operate software in as one can set environment variables to suit software very directly. Now I have not run ArcSDE on a Windows environment before so any suggestions I have may not work as I write them.
Still, I would suggest you consider writing a CMD/batch script that:
    1. Set all appropriate Oracle environment variables DIRECTLY eg
    SET ORACLE_BASE=c:\oracle\product
    SET ORACLE_HOME=c:\oracle\product\10.2.01
    SET ORACLE_SID=...
    2. Set the ArcSDE environment
    3. Sets the Path to include all Oracle, ArcSDE and required Windows executables
    4. Start the ArcSDE service:
NET START ESRARCSDE (or whatever this thing is called)
I suspect if you can get this going you will never go back to any other method of starting and managing ArcSDE (this approach works and works well on UNIX so you will be all skilled up to migrate across to Linux/Solaris etc if you see fit).
    Hope this helps.
PS I have run ArcSDE against non-supported versions quite successfully over the years so I would say try it against 10.2.0.1 and see what happens.
    regards
    Smon

I try to search in service market place . But i cant find oracle 9.2 64 bit for our windows 2003 server X64 edition . Kindly advice me to download .

I am not sure but its not logical.
How you can use 64bit kernel with 32bit DB.
I suggest you keep 32bit SAP, 32bit oracle 9.2 db.
Do upgradation of oracle 9.2 to 10.2 32bit.
Take offline / cold backup of 32bit 10.2 db
Install X64bit OS, 64bit SAP, 64bit Oracle Software
Restore offfline / cold backup and migrate to x64bit.

  • Reader 8.1.3 installer does not start on Windows 2003 x64

    Hello,
i use Windows Server 2003 SP2 as 64 Bit edition on AMD and have installed Reader 8.1.2 successfully. Now i tried to install 8.1.3, which is the most recent of the 8th series i found, and fail because the installer simply does nothing! It starts up and then nothing happens. I've downloaded the EXE several times directly from Adobe with the same result.
    What can i do?

Sorry, i still don't get why 8.1.2 runs perfectly (and yes, there is a 64bit support for Windows 2003 Server!) and 8.1.3 did not even start. That makes no sense to me.
And because i want do deploy 8.1.3 even update is no alternative for me.

    Hi
Crystal Reports 10 and CE10Embedded are not supported on 64 bit systems.  CR10 and ce10Embedded will be reaching end of support soon so it is unlikely that BOBJ will "update" this older product to run on 64 bit systems.
Very few CR or BOBJ products are supported on 64 bit systems.
Here's the link to the Supported Platforms doc for CR10:http://support.businessobjects.com/communityCS/TechnicalPapers/cr10_supported_platforms.pdf
It is unlikely you'll be able to resolve this issue.

    6 x 72GB 15k SAS RAID-5 for data + logs (i know ideally logs need to move to a RAID-1 set etc)
    dedicated mode
database is about 10GB (main set of tables about 1GB)
SGA + PGA 4GB (auto memory management)
server has been set to network application mode such that less mem is allocated to the system cache etc.
Large Page support has been enabled (not confirmed if this is working, any ideas how to?)
Looking at the page faults and page out perf mon stats it looks too high/ too much given the arrangement above. The majority of the page faults are coming from the Oracle.exe process. But I cannot explain why specially if Large Page is setup then the SGA etc should be locked in to RAM as I understand.
side note I was seeing similar behaviour on the older 10.2.0.1 DB that had same mem config for the same set of data.
    Any ideas people?
    Thanks

    JA,
On the server, open Task Manager and then select the Processes tab. Make certain that it is configured to show the Page Faults column and click on the entry for the Oracle instance so that it is highlighted. Then, open a command prompt and start SQL*Plus with the /NOLOG command line parameter. Make note of the current value of Page Faults and then connect to the database instance using SQL*Plus using the SYS user account (or some other account). You will probably find that the Page Faults value jumped by about 302 as a result of the login, and the value just might jump again when you disconnect from the database. Keep in mind that each session connecting to an Oracle instance running on Windows will require at least 1MB of memory immediately on connection as an additional thread is created (assuming shared server is not used). If each memory page were 4KB in size (as is the standard in Windows), there would likely be at least 256 (1MB / 4KB) page faults for each login, and possibly the same amount per disconnect. With this in mind, I am not so certain that 500 page faults per second is a high value for a Oracle process running on Windows if users/applications are constantly connecting and disconnecting from the Oracle database instance.
To determine if there is a performance problem caused by memory utilization, what you may want to do is take a look at the PF Usage value on the Performance tab of Task Manager. This is NOT the page file usage, regardless of the warnings that appear in Enterprise Manager - this is total memory allocation including RAM and swap file usage. There is an interesting thread where I discovered the actual meaning of PF Usage here:
    http://groups.google.com/group/comp.databases.oracle.server/browse_thread/thread/b62c4d761cace2a6
If the PF Usage is considerably less than the amount of the RAM in the server (8GB RAM -> PF near 7GB is OK), you will likely be OK, as long as you do not attempt to move multi-gigabyte files around - doing so could cause short term memory starvation issues for Oracle. You might want to verify that the File and Printer Sharing option of the network card is set to "Maximize throughput for network applications" so that Windows will limit the memory used for file caching.

  • BPC 5.1 on Windows 2003 X64

    Hi,
Please let me know whether BPC 5.1 can be installed on Windows 2003 SP2 X64 64 bit server with Database as MS SQL Server 2005 SP2.
Edited by: Manish Ranjan on Jan 20, 2009 7:11 AM

BPC 5.1 is working with Windows 2003 64 bits only for database server.
The application server should be 32 bits.
So I suggest to have a multiserver installation in your case where SSAS and SQL server (2000 0r 2005)should be installed into a server 64 bits but application server and web server should be installed into another server 32 bits.
Actually with this kind of configuration you are receiving the best performances.
SQL 2008 is working only starting with SAP BPC 7.0 SP3.
