OS 10.4.11 Update & Printing
I have been using an Epson Stylus Color 740i for years. I recently updated from 10.3.9 to 10.4.11, and I can no longer print. I cannot find any drivers or software updates to fix the problem. Is this printer no longer supported in 10.4.11? Does anyone know how to fix this issue?
Hi Mbarnes and welcome to the forums!
I use that printer as well, and went through all that when I upgraded (some time ago) to 10.4.11!
Setting up the Epson 740 printer is a little tricky under MacOS X 10.4. There are in fact Epson USB as well as Gimp-print based drivers for the Epson 740 in Tiger (both of which will work).
The easiest way to set up an Epson 740 print driver is to use the Printer Setup Utility to delete any existing printer queues for that printer. You should then be able to unplug and replug in the USB cable for the Epson 740 and a new printer queue will be automatically created. This method of creating the Epson 740 printer queue will always work.
The creation of the Epson 740 printer manually from within the Printer Setup Utility is more problematic. If you create the printer without using the "More Printers..." button to select the printer driver, the resulting printer queue is broken and will stop the print queue anytime you send a print job to it. If you use the "More Printers..." button to select the Epson USB driver for the Epson 740, the resulting printer queue will work fine.

Last but by no means least are the Gutenprint drivers (which I use) which are superb and give you many more options than the original drivers:
http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/MacOSX.php3
You can download the latest version from here:
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=1537
and the version you want is (scroll down) Gutenprint-5.0.2-ub.dmg (download no. 12347).
Let me know how you get on.

When I make : SPRO -> Material Management-> Purchasing -> Message -> Output Control->Message Types->Define message type for purchase order->Fine-Tuned Control: Purchase Order
Somebody could explain me what means the U=>Update print-dependent data
If I flag it what's happen?
Thanck you very much for your help.Hi
Here is the SAP explanation
Update Print-Dependent Data
Determines whether the message type is to be used as the default for the print preview and whether, in the case of scheduling agreement releases, the print-dependent data is updated when the message type is outputted.
Use
If the indicator is set, the print output for this message type is automatically displayed. A selection pop-up no longer appears.
The following additionally applies to scheduling agreement releases:
If the indicator is set, the print program updates the print-dependent data in the affected scheduling agreement item, the releases, and the schedule lines when the message type is outputted. This data is automatically updated at or soon after the time of transmission.
Print-dependent data includes the date and time of the release and the old quantities of the schedule lines.
For the print operations '9' and 'A', you must flag one of your messages as relevant to the updating of the print-dependent data. -

Updating printer device attributes using RFC
Hello all,
I'm a new entrant to the SAP world and still finding my feet. I think the term newbie can be applied freely.
My pilot involves using the NW RFC libraries to update printer attributes. So far I think RSPO_ functions seem to be the appropriate choice for dealing with printing. I can get the list of printers by using either ADS_GET_PRINTER_LIST or RSPO_ADM_DEVICES_GET. They both seem to return the same data, though the ADS version has far more detail. I've discovered these APIs mainly by trial/error and searching the forums/google/...
However I cannot seem to find the functions for updating the attributes.
RSPO_DEVICE_UPDATE and RSPO_ADM_DEVICE_UPDATE looked promising, but they cannot be called remotely.
My questions/doubts:
1. Is what I'm trying to do possible and supported?
2. Are RSPO_ family the correct functions for dealing with device updates, or is there another set of functions?
3. If the DEVICE_UPDATE is indeed the correct function, what are the workarounds for accessing it remotely; so far I can think of using a think ABAP wrapper which is exposed remotely, using the web services SOAP call.
I've been trying to find the canonical reference documentation for dealing with printers at an API level, but with no success. Any pointers to docs/references would be much appreciated!
I understand these are very entry level questions, and do beg everyones' pardon.
regardsThank you Anzy and Priti, we're much further ahead now due to your help.
Priti, we do want to update the output device attributes. Specifically device type and driver. I cannot find RSPO_SXOMS_I_UPDATE_PRINTER function defined in the customer SAP test instance. I'll post the exact version numbers and configuration tomorrow, once I again have access to the server.
Anzy, I've started writing a Z_ wrapper over RSPO_ADM_DEVICE_UPDATE for the time being. Thanks for the pointer.
It seems that all the RSPO_ RFCs are view and read only. The update/create APIs are non-remote. I wanted to find the design/security documentation for understanding these decisions. Does SAP documentation have a technical/security architecture overview? Or perhaps a specific forum?
Once again, thank you both from me and the Idea Device engineers. -
Windows 7 clients need to update printer driver for no reason
I have a problem with my Windows 7 clients in domain. We have 2012 print server and multiple printers installed on it. I installed a brand new Canon IR printer with a new driver from Canon webpage. After I did that, almost all Windows 7 clients got a warning
that they need to update driver for printing. Those clients are NOT using the printer I installed, but the other ones (who worked fine until my installation). Is it possible that installing new printer cause other compatible printers to update themselfs???
Can I avoid it in the future?Hi IvanSa83,
The main issue is that installing a new printer will affect other printers, right?
Here is a similar symptom and the environment is Windows 7 ,Windows 2003 Server. The OP in this case has resolved this issue by modifying the Group policy called “Point and Print Settings Restrictions”. This policy will influence Windows Vista and the later
version.
As the link posted by OP said: When an administrator updates a printer driver on a shared print server, the Point and Print feature automatically updates printer drivers from the print server to a client computer. Some printers may share driver files
across several printer models or across a family of printers. An update to one of these shared driver files will cause client computers to update the drivers for any device that depends on the updated files.
Here is the case link :

Acrobat XI Pro update / print spooler problem
Running Acrobat XI Pro on Windows XP Pro 5.1 sp 3..
-- Acrobat tries to update 11.0.02. I see the icon in the Windows tray for a long time. I open the Acrobat Updater, and it is stuck on "Service to stop: Print Spooler."
-- It was like that for about a day ... maybe two... then it gave the 'Install Failed" error, and, if I remember correctly, gave the error message 1602.
-- When I looked up the error, the stated remedy was to try again but using the Help --> Check for Updates menu item inside Acrobat (instead of letting automatic updater do it).
-- So I did that yesterday evening, about 10 hours ago, and currently, the install is still stuck on "Service to stop: Print Spooler."
This actually happened once before some months ago, and I forget what I did to fix or end the situation... but whatever that was, I'm not finding it now.
Help? Please follow the steps mentioned here: http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/error-1602-update-acrobat-reader.html

Officejet 6700 error while searching for updates: 'Printer could not connect to server'
I recently purchase the Officejet 6700 Premium. While setting the printer up, I received the error 'The printer could not connect to the server.' I first received this while the printer was searching for updates. I later received the same error while trying to set up ePrint from my computer.
The printer is connected through my wireless router. All other print services function normally. It is connected to the network, and I have printed several times over the wireless network.
Though I don't think it matters, since the on-board print set-up gave me the error, I run Windows 7 64-bit on my computer.
Thanks for any help! What is the IP address of the printer? What is the make and model of the router that you use in the wireless set up? Is the router firmware up to date?
I would first try power cycling the router and the printer. Turn off/unplug the router and then power down the printer. Then plug the router back in and wait for it to be fully up and functioning before turning the printer back on. After you have both pieces of equipment back on and functioning attempt to connect to web services again.
If still having problems I would attempt to set a static DNS on the printer through the embedded web server (EWS) by entering the printer's IP address into the address bar of a browser on a computer.
Once that computer displays that page click on the Network tab.
Then look in the column to the left and find the Wireless section
Click on IPv4
Then on that page look at the 2nd section that is labeled DNS Address configuration
Change the radio button to the manual option
Then for the manual preferred fill it out and make sure it reads 8.8.8.8
Secondary should be set to 8.8.4.4
Then hit Apply
Read the next screen carefully. That message with the "OK" button below it is one that states to click that button to undo the changes you just made. Just navigate away from that page by clicking on another tab.
Then reattempt to connect to web services.

Updating printer driver for laserjet 2100tn
I have recently updated my Mac Mini (PawerPC) to an iMac with Lion. HP says that the printer driver update is through Apple, and nothing I do seems to call the Print/Scan dialog to notice it. Thoughts?
DavidThe printer may not be supported by Lion, if it's still supported the update will come from software updates. Just plug the printer straight into the iMac just run software updates and if there's any available it will pop up.

Mac osx 10.8.1 update printer driver not available
We are getting a message asking to update the printer (HP Laserjet 1320). If we accept it searches for the update and returns the message "...unavailable".
OK, so how do stop that message window from popping up?Normally I do not shut down my iMac - rather I just let it sleep as per System Preferences > Energy Saver settings. This morning I did a complete shut down and then restarted and the problem has gone away again. Then I did a bunch of testing by launching all the usual applications I might have run since updating to 10.8.2 to see if one of these triggers the problem. After each new application launch I turned on the printer to see if the problem would occur (and then shut down the printer before the next application launch.) So far I haven't found what triggers this but once triggered it seems to then occur with each printer start (until I shut down the iMac again I guess.) I will have to keep a close watch on what I launch for a while to see what I have missed.

Acrobat X Pro 10.0.1 Update - Printer Errors?
Hi, all.
I was wondering if anyone else out there had noticed a problem similar to the one I now see...
I recently updated from Acrobat Pro X 10.0 to 10.0.1 (Received notification of update availability 2/8/2011), and from that point on, anytime I print to the Adobe PDF printer (such as from Word, etc.), I get one of those errors in my task tray with the picture of the printer with a red question mark over it, saying "This Document Failed to Print" even though the document is successfully converted and opens in Acrobat Pro... I can view the file in Acrobat Pro, the file exists in the destination where I directed it to be saved, but the printer shows that error. In reality, there doesn't seem to BE an error, but it is annoying to have to open the Adobe PDF printer and "cancel" out the document with the "Error - Printing" status.
Not even sure how I did this, but somehow I interrupted one of my jobs, and it came up with this log:
The operation completed successfully.
Pipe:\\.\pipe\PMtoDistiller_ID_3:Microsoft Word - AVMA.doc
That, despite throwing the error...
I have uninstalled and re-installed, and I have attempted to re-do the update installation by downloading the .msp file in the Downloads section. To no avail.
This problem surfaced only after the update. No such occurrences prior to it. Nothing else installed or uninstalled surrounding the appearance of this technical gaffe.
Any suggestions or feedback? Has anyone else noticed this?
Thanks!
JLI am running Win 7 x64 and I was able to find a solution for my configuration...at least for now. I suspect that the configuration might not matter as this seems to be related to the update deleting the PDF Printer or just the port it is assigned to. Not entirely sure if just the port is being deleted and the printer is then reassigned a default port of COM1 or if the PDF printer is deleted along with the port(s) and reinstalled but assigned to the wrong port.
I spent "some time" with tech support last night. Apparently they are aware of this problem but there wasn't any permanent solution yet. Long story short I uninstalled and reinstalled Acrobat X Pro from disk but did not install this 10.0.1 update. After doing so I noticed that the PDF printer port(s) that had been deleted during the original update were now back.
Before you do anything take a look at your installed PDF Printer and look at the printer properties. Check the port it is assigned to. If it says something like COM1 then that seems to be the problem. Scroll down the entire list of ports to see if there is a port titled ""Documents\*.pdf" or "Desktop\*.pdf". On the outside chance you find such a port check the box next to it. If you see both options choose the one based on which default folder you want your PDF files to save to automatically (Desktop or Documents in my case...might be different in XP).
If you don't see them then uninstall and reinstall from disk but don't install the update if it comes up afterwards.I haven't been prompted about the update yet but I just did this last night. -
10.9.2 update, 'print' crashed mail every time!!!!!
Hi,
I've followed the advise like a Lemming and installed 10.9.2 on my 2008 MBP, now everytime I try to print from Mail I get a 5 second hang and mail quits - I've sent 15 reports to apple in the past 30 minutes, but it is critical to be able to print messages for filing and handing out at meetings.
I've been with Mac since the CRT iMac, and you'd have thought I would have learnt by now to WAIT before installing rushed fixes!
Can anyone help????
AdamHi Linc,
I've attached the reports as noted above. The first one had hundreds of threads, which I deleted after the first 10.
The second is complete.
Could this be a printer issue, where Apple have made all the drivers redundant with Mavericks? My organisation won't be updating the various printer copiers anytime soon so I would be proverbably up the creek without a paddle!

Cannot update printer driver on client computers
Hi all,
we are migrating users and computers from one domain (DomainA) to another one (DomainB). All was working fine: bidirectional trusts is created, all users and computer are migrated but the printer server still exists in DomainA and is being used. All
45 printers are Canon models: Canon IR2525i and Canon IRC2030i. Also, Domain A print server is the last DC at domainA and is running Windows 2008 R2. Domain B DCs are running Windows 2003 SP2
All users could print ... but yesterday a workmate tried to install a new printer (Canon iR ADV C2230), so he decided to install its driver. After that, all Windows 7 users were unable to print (there are some XP computer but they can print) because all
Canon printers show a 'Driver update needed' message with privilege prompt, but users cannot update because they're non-admin users.
We're using GPO & GPP for printer deployment. I've tried to use 'Point and print restrictions' as I could read at http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc753269.aspx. First I disabled Point and print restrictions... the same result. After that,
I tried to enable it and set as trusted server the DomainA print server and not showing warning or elevation prompt when connecting or updating driver... same result.
Also, I tried to set GPO policy for user permission 'Devices: prevent users from installing printer drivers' to Disabled. and using GPP adding a common group for migrated users to local advanced users group.... same result.
The last attempt was, using GPP printer deployment, set 'Replace' instead of 'Update' a printer, but after GPUPDATE /FORCE I can see the modified printer dissapears, but not returns. At event viewer I can see 0x80070bcb error : The specified printer driver
was not found in the sistem and needs to be downloaded
Any idea what else can I do? If I set admin user at privilege prompt drivers are installed succesfully, but is not a solutions because there is a lot of clients :(
Thanks in advancedHi SalvaG,
Thanks for sharing your solution in the forum. We really appreciate your time and efforts.
Best regards,
Justin Gu
