OS 10.4.11 where is the patch for the latest security??
Where is the patch that Apple announced today? OS 10.4.11 I know it's an old Mac, but...
Well, 10.4.11 is not all that much suffering...I loved that system.
But now with the App Store and iCloud I am not sure I could go back
The new iMacs are sure nice...a little plug, if you want to be able to upgrade memory yourself be sure to look carefully at the 27" which lets you do that.

Everything was fine until a few weeks ago... after installing the latest security patch for ML, video playback - downloaded and streamed - will briefly pause and/or choppy. I thought the problem was resolved w/ Yosemite, but no such luck. I'm assuming it's a systemic issue... though where to begin?
I'm not that tech savy, and may need to bring this in for a look-see. Any tips on where to go from here?
ThanksPut me on the list as a supportor of the action. I imagine there are going to be many others with the similar complaint, this Co. has been cacheing my old accounts & poping them up every now & then, just to try & use up or do away with my credits.

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-US/windowsserver/bb405948.aspxHello,
domain rename is NOT supported when using Exchange 2007 or higher. And NetBIOS rename is NOT supported on ANY Exchange version.
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc738208(WS.10).aspx
"It is imperative that you not attempt a domain rename operation until you read and understand the contents of this technical reference. The domain rename operation is not supported in Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 or Exchange Server 2010.
DNS domain rename is supported in Exchange Server 2003. However, renaming of the NetBIOS domain name is not supported in any version of Exchange Server."
There are maybe also other applications/services that do not support this.

Unmounted HDD and the latest Security update
Yesterday I installed the latest security/Java update and it crashed my system, just like it has done to quite a few other people: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=9053491#9053491
In trying to reinstall OS X, I ran across what I guess is the second installation disc error, where after the first disc is installed and the system reboots, it never finishes booting nor does it ask for the second disc.
I thought my problem might be a HDD error, so I ran the installation disc and did the Disk Utility. I asked it to repair the disc if needed. It could not complete the repair because of an "Invalid sibling link." And this is where things went really bad.
Foolishly, I searched the internet for "invalid siblining link" and found this site: http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20070204093925888
Which suggests that to fix this error you need to unmount your HDD and run fsck_hfs -r in the Terminal.
Why would I be so stupid as to follow this advice and unmount my HDD with little-to-no understanding of what unmounting does or of Terminal commands? Why would I not bother to read the comments following that post which decry the dangers of unmounting? The only excuse I can think of was that I was delirious after nearly 8 hours of trying to salvage my iMac from the Java/Security update. Needless to say, I successfully unmounted my HDD but did not successfully run the fsck test. Leaving me without a HDD and unable to install OS X.
At this point, I'm planning on taking to the Genius Bar in Austin over the weekend, hoping that they can salvage my new machine (less than a year old!) from the mess I/Apple made. Any one have any suggestions on remounting a HDD or any advice in general?A wiser head may step in on this as regards to the mounting issue, but I am not currently under the impression that that is what is wrong. I think that command only applies when you are running the computer and once you turn off the computer and turn it on again the drive should appear in Disk Utility. In fact, if the drive were wiped clean your Disk Utility should see it. Yes, if you unmount it to run fsk, you then need to mount it to get it to show under that session, but if you turned off the computer or restarted it then all would be reset.
So, if you turn off your computer, boot from your install Disk and start up Disk Utility, does the drive show up at all? If so you're off the a start. If not then it is suggesting serious problems (terminal?) with the drive. -

I am running OSX 10.6.8 and when I try to install the latest security update there is an unknown error and the update cannot be implemented. I still have to restart my computer each time I try. Is anyone else experiencing this problem?
I tried using the downloaded update. It still didn't work but at least I did not have to restart my computer. The message was a little different too: "The installation failed. The Installer encountered an error that caused the installation to fail. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance."Run through this list of fixes, either something is corrupted or you have malware that's blocking the update.
..Step by Step to fix your Mac
Make sure to backup your users files to a external storage drive first (not only TimeMachine as it may fail to restore) and disconnect, because if' it's a drive corruption/failing then the entire thing will either have to be replaced or a wipe and install done.

After the latest Security Update 2012-001 (Mac OS X 10.6.8) my Adobe Photoshop CS 8, Dreamweaver 8, and InDesign CS programs crash when I try to save a file. HELP!!!
Howdy,
Apparently some are reporting that this causes the older PowerPC (PPC) applications that are supported in 10.6 via 'Rosetta' to crash upon attempting to open/save/print using any dialog box, or fail in other similar ways such as simply not printing or quitting, or freezing/hanging/crashing of the application.
I have read of some companies that have indeed submitted proper bug reports to Apple, but that is not a guarantee of a bug-fix being issued.
You might wish to read:
http://www.macintouch.com/readerreports/snowleopard/index.html#d02feb2012
If you are unsure if you are still using PowerPC apps, if the application is currently running, look under the 'Activity Monitior' (in Applications -> Utilities), or alternatively you could check in the System Profiler, Applications. Check the column "Type".
Here is a fairly simple way you can restore you system and restore you applications functionality again, if you don't have a recent clone or good Time Machine backup that you can restore from. If you do, restore from your backup prior to having installed the Security Update 2012-001.
Time Machine restore: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1427
If you are restoring a backup made by a Mac to the same Mac
With your backup drive connected, start up your Mac from the Lion recovery partition (Command-R at startup) or Mac OS X v10.6 installation disc. Then use the "Restore From Time Machine Backup" utility. Select the backup prior to your issues, and it will be restored back to the state it was in at that time.
If you can't easily restore from a backup, you can instead do the following:
- You first start by reinstalling your OS X 10.6.x, this will preserve all your user data, your applications, no worries there.
- Then install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 (links provided below)
- Make sure you're printers are showing up correctly in your system preferences, if not, re-add the printers
- Then finally, run the Apple Software Update (by pulling down the Apple Menu), and install any and all remaining updates, except do not then re-install the Security Update 2012-001. It is possible that you may have to reboot after installing some of the updates, and you may even need to run it a 2nd time to make sure that you've got all updates, except NOT the Security Update 2012-001.

When I try to watch any video clip I get this:
The version of “Adobe Flash Player” on your system does not include the latest security updates and has been blocked. To continue using “Adobe Flash Player”, download an updated version from Adobe’s website.
I tried clicking on the Adobe Flash Player. It said it accepted it but it did not make a difference.
Can anyone help?
Thank you!This did not work

The version of “Adobe Flash Player” on your system does not include the latest security updates and has been blocked. To continue using “Adobe Flash Player”, download an updated version from Adobe’s website.
You haven't actually asked a question, but as stated you should only download Flash Player directy from Adobe.
Nor have you said what version of OS X and Safari you are running.
You can check here: http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/ to see which version you should install for your Mac and OS. Note that version 10,1,102,64 is the last version available to PPC Mac users*. The latest version,10.3 or later, is for Intel Macs only, as Adobe no longer support the PPC platform. Version 11.0.1.152 is for Lion.
* Unhelpfully, if you want the last version for PPC Macs, you need to go here: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/142/tn_14266.html and scroll down to 'Archived Versions/Older Archives'. Flash Player 10.1.102.64 is the one you download. More information here: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/838/cpsid_83808.html
You should first uninstall any previous version of Flash Player, using the uninstaller from here (make sure you use the correct one!):
http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/909/cpsid_90906.html
and also that you follow the instructions closely, such as closing ALL applications first before installing. You must also carry out a permission repair after installing anything from Adobe. -
I just installed the latest security update and now I cannot access iPhoto. I keep getting a message that it quit unexpectedly due to some conflict with the Scene Kit plugin.
I'm using a Macbook Pro Mavericks Version 10.9.5Probably the reboot used to log into the Guest account and then your account again fixed the problem. If often will.

Does reapplying 10.4.11 combo update negate the latest security updates?
I've reapplied the 10.4.11 combo update in an attempt to trouble shoot some problems I've been having. My question is, "Does reapplying 10.4.11 combo update negate the latest security updates?" I've checked my computer using the "Software Update" option, and I'm given the message that I'm up to date. But that may be due to the fact that there's a receipt of the security update in my receipt's folder.
Steve:
If the Combo update was downloaded previous to the last security update being available it will not have included the security update. If the Combo update was downloaded after the security update was available, it will have included the latest security update. As new updates become available, the Combo update is updated so that it includes the latest updates. If you are concerned that the security update may not have been included in the Combo update, or you are sure that you downloaded the Combo update a while previous to the availability of the latest security update you can either:
1. Download the stand alone security update and install it over what is already on your computer, or
2. Download the current Combo update and install it.
In either case, remember to Repair Disk Permissions in Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility before and after installation.
Cheers

I can't download the latest security update to my iMac with Yosemite 10.10.1
I can't download the latest security update to my iMac with Yosemite 10.10.1
Hi mesuno. I can't download the update either. When I click on "Update" I see the download progress bar for only a fraction of a second. Then I get a message in the "updates installed" area saying that the update has been installed. Then the Security Update notice returns and so does the "Update" button. Then I press "Update" again and the same thing happens. I can do this ad infinitum.
The system seems to be confused. I have several entries in the "installed" area saying that it has been installed, but still the "Update" button persists. When I check with "Sytem information" there is no record of the installation.
Is there something wrong with the App Store app, or does anyone else have a better idea? -
Does the latest security update to Safari effect OSX v10.6.8?
Does the latest security update (Fix issued 25/02/14) to Safari not effect Mac OSX v10.6.8 Snow Leopard? Software update has not flagged it up in Snow leopard, so presumably it is only Lion & Mavericks that had the flaw.
