OS 10.4.4 won't resolve domainnames under Classic

We updated a iMac G5 1.8GHz from 10.3.9 to 10.4.4 . Resolving domain names works fine in the native Tiger environment and fails in the Classic environment. Everything worked fine before we updated to 10.4.4 . Is there a solution for this problem?

Steve:
My formerly reliable PBg4 will not restart or shut down with this new OS 10.4x
It is not Tiger that's causing the problem. Tiger will run fine on your PBook. It's because you short-circuited the process. Next time around, go through the setup and when it comes to registering with Apple, click later. As baltwo said, if you don't have a backup you will need to re-install.
Good luck.

  • Internal DNS - emailsrvr.mydomain won't resolve, IP does - www works.

    Internal Mail won't resolve to emailserver domain, but LAN ip is fine
    Hey gang, longtime reader first time poster.
    After wrestling with this issue, i'm about out of ideas.
    Here's my setup.
    Leopard server 10.5.4, running OD master (all rocking),
    AFP, Firewall, DNS, (mobile) network home directories.
    I'll call this "xserve.mydomain.com "
    Its NAT'd IP is 192.168.1.102.
    It's a FQDN, kerberos is running and happy, all is well.
    There are about 12
    clients, each with a desktop (imac) and laptop (macbook).
    I have a second (windows 2003 sbe) server hosting the following
    services: Exchange and Web (for now).
    I'll call this winsbe.mydomain.com
    Its NAT'd IP is 192.168.1.101
    My External DNS setup is this.
    Our DNS hosting is done by our registrar (network solutions).
    We own 4 static IPs from our ISP.
    One IP is for our router/firewall providing NAT
    to internal clients, and the xserve is on DMZ, with
    its OSX firewall service turned on.
    One IP is for the
    windows server. (the last two, if you've been counting, are unused .
    Via Network Solutions "advanced DNS", I have our zone
    configured. "xserve.mydomain.com" points to its WAN
    IP (66.xxx.xxx.198).
    www points to 66.xxx.xxx.194.
    MX records refer to "winsbe.mydomain.com" via
    WAN IP 66.xxx.xxx.194 as well.
    All outside services resolve correctly.
    IE, i can hit the website and send/receive email from mydomain.com.
    My internal DNS as setup as this:
    primary zone= mydomain.com
    nameserver= xserve.mydomain.com
    mx record= winsbe.mydomain.com
    xserve.mydomain.com has an A record to LAN IP.
    winsbe.mydomain.com has an A record to LAN IP.
    www is a CNAME record to winsbe.mydomain.com. <----i'm not sure about this one but it works.....
    My forwarder IP points back to my Router (which seems to give me better performance than using ISP
    DNS from here..)
    I know this is working fine insofar as the webserver, as
    an nslookup (www.mydomain.com) internally resolves www to 192.168.1.101.
    mydomain.com and www.mydomain.com hit the webserver internally
    on client browsers. rock.
    Again, forward AND reverse nslookups internally resolve to winsbe.mydmain.com/92.168.1.101
    Here is my guess as to my problem,
    my internal hostname + a record for the windows server the same as the MX record
    which has an alias from www.
    I think it's getting effed in there somewhere?
    If I setup email clients with the windows server LAN IP rather than
    the domain "winsbe.mydomain.com" it all works fine.
    I'd frankly be willing to half-*** it with this solution,
    but each client will require a mobile computer, so we can't have that
    I feel like i'm on the right track, but
    just can't make the breakthrough.
    Am I barking up the wrong tree here?
    Here is a last question,
    I have my firewall/router as the "Forwarder IP Address"
    in the last page of Settings in server admin. When i put
    my ISP's DNS servers, i always get a 2 second delay
    for any web query on any client.
    I have "127.0.0.1" as the first DNS entry in xserve Network Preferences.
    The xserve is the only DNS entry in the client computers.
    This isn't a "bad practice" or anything is it?

    For the curious, my named.conf below (haven't messed with it):
    // Include keys file
    include "/etc/rndc.key";
    // Declares control channels to be used by the rndc utility.
    // It is recommended that 127.0.0.1 be the only address used.
    // This also allows non-privileged users on the local host to manage
    // your name server.
    // Default controls
    controls {
    inet 127.0.0.1 port 54 allow {any; }
    keys { "rndc-key"; };
    options {
    include "/etc/dns/options.conf.apple";
    * If there is a firewall between you and nameservers you want
    * to talk to, you might need to uncomment the query-source
    * directive below. Previous versions of BIND always asked
    * questions using port 53, but BIND 8.1 uses an unprivileged
    * port by default.
    // query-source address * port 53;
    // a caching only nameserver config
    logging {
    include "/etc/dns/loggingOptions.conf.apple";
    // Public view read by Server Admin
    include "/etc/dns/publicView.conf.apple";
    // Server Admin declares all zones in a view. BIND therefore dictates
    // that all other zone declarations must be contained in views.

  • Faces-config bean won't resolve

    Hello,
    A while ago I was reading about a naming convention for spring beans. In spring I can create a bean like this:
    <bean id="prefix:beanId" class="org.company....">
    The prefix works similar to that of namespaces: when there's two beans from independent projects/modules sharing the same name the prefix helps to keep them unique.
    Anyway, when the faces-config.xml is parsed, it won't allow a colon in the name of the bean like so (an exception is thrown):
    <managed-bean>..........<value>#{prefix:beanId}</value></managed-bean>
    It does allow a period in there, such as:
    <managed-bean>..........<value>#{prefix.beanId}</value></managed-bean>
    However, after adjusting the bean identifier, it simply won't resolve. No exception, I'm getting null injected. When removing the periods, it does resolve.
    Why is that?
    Also, I'd like to know your experience with using id prefixes.
    Thanks,
    David

    well, i figured out the problem so thought to share with all aswell.
    all i changed was the name of the variable from mDept to dept.
    java beans has its own set of rules and naming conventions which i have not read much about but this problem had to do sumthing with that!
    just changing the name simply works fine!

    PS won't resolve 'missing' fonts, says "Typekit if off" at the top of the UI that pops up to help resolve the missing fonts, but won't work because it 'THINKS' my Typekit is off...It is NOT 'off', it indicates Typekit is turned on in Adobe CC.

    I don't use Typekit fonts in PS so I might be off base here.  But are logged-in to Creative Cloud?

  • Air port won't resolve DNS server

    I have been having problems getting my internet to connect automatically. It won't resolve the DNS servers on its own and I am having to keep entering them manually once the IP address have been found. Is there a way to fix this? I think I have all the settings on automatic.

    Try using non-automatic servers.
    In your DNS servers box in your network setup try these two 208.67.222.222, 208.67.220.220.
    Way to go Canada.

  • Please Help - My iTunes library won't recognize my iPod classic

    My iTunes library won't recognize my iPod classic 80gb. I try doing the trouble shooting steps on apple, but they still did not work. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'd love to add some newer music to my old iPod for listening in the car or when travelling. Thanks a lot.

    Hello dmbnewfie,
    Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
    I understand that your iPod classic is not being recognized in iTunes when you connect it to your computer. I know you have tried some troubleshooting on the Apple website as well, but without knowing which steps you have completed, I would suggest working through the attached iPod classic Troubleshooting Assistant.

  • Image Capture won't recognize camera under other user log in

    Image Capture won't recognize cameras under another other users log in on the same computer even though it works perfectly under the main user log in. Can some body hep me pleeze? What am I doing wrong or how can I let my daughter use her digital camera under her log in?

    Hi G-Man,
    It's probably something in the Preferences folder; Users/herusername/Library/Preferences. Start by removing com.apple.ImageCaptureApp.plist and trying again. If that doesn't do it drag the entire Preference folder to the desktop, log out and back in. Launch it again and if it works you can either reset preferences for all System Preferences and apps or drag the preferences files a group at a time back to the new Preference folder in Library and test Image Capture each time. That way you can narrow it down to the one offending preference file.

    When I want to work in Classic the Nikon LS 2000 scanner won't be recognized under Photoshop 6.(it has a SCSI-connection; the Umax-scanner has a USB and is recognized for sure). Is there any solution for this problem(Nikon says not, but I wont give up) I tried Vuescan but I don't like the program because its totally different. Anyone??

    Take a look at the Nikon Coolscan User's Group Discussion

    Two options that you might find useful are Silverfast http://www.silverfast.com/show/scanners-nikon/en.html and VueScan http://www.hamrick.com/
    Silverfast will handle dust removal.
    Silverfast is somewhat expensive, and VueScan is under $100.

  • Musika won't sync onto 5G Classic

    Read about Musika in a game magazine. Went to http://www.musikagame.com. Clicked on the buy link, and was taken to iTunes Store. Bought the game via iTunes. The game shows up in my iPod Games list and says it is compatible with iPod 5G units. The game won't appear in the Classic's Games tab sync list. FAQ says this means the game is not compatible with my unit (i.e. 5G Classic). Is Musika compatible with 5G or not? If not, how do I get a refund? Thanks.

    Welcome to the discussions, Radio ND.

  • Eclipse won't resolve org.apache.* packages

    Hello everyone,
    I'm relatively new to java and eclipse and I am really stuck trying to use various packages.
    First a little history on what I am doing. I've created a project from existing source using the new java project wizard. This source code is obtained from the Book: XML and Java: Developing Web Applications, 2nd Edition. It's sort of dated. It uses SDK 1.3, and xerces 1.4.3 the current is 2.9.1. I have version 2.9.0 according to the Eclipse plugin registry. ( Thought I'd mention this in the event it may be relevant ).
    The problem is Eclipse will not resolve this line of code:
    import org.apache.xerces.parsers.DOMParser;
    I look at plugins and I see xerces listed:
    Provider:: eclipse.org
    Plug-in Name:: Apache Xerces-J
    Version:: 2.9.0v200909240008
    Plug-in ID:: org.appache.xerces
    However, Eclipse content assist does not list any org.apache packages and of course it won't compile without fatal errors.
    In an attempt to correct the problem I've created a classpath variable in
    Preferences > Java > Buildpath > Classpath variables:: xerces_2_9_0 - /Applicatins/Eclipse/plugins/org.apache.xerces_2.9.0.v200909240008.jar
    Then added the var to a launch configuration.
    The same error still persists::
    Exception in thread "main" java.lang.Error: Unresolved compilation problems:
    DOMParser cannot be resolved to a type
    DOMParser cannot be resolved to a type
    at chap02.SimpleParse.main(SimpleParse.java:20)
    I've also tried to add jar's to the libraries using Preferences > Java > Build Path > User Libraries but the the button on the right 'Add jars...' is not acitve.
    The complete source code is listed below. Although I don't think the problem resides there.
    Anyone who can help me in understanding this problem and resolving it would be greatly appreciated.
    ( I obviously am misunderstanding something ).

  • DNS won't resolve SRV records with recursion disabled

    I have DNS installed on a Windows Server 2008 R2 server.  I have a standard zone created (no AD integration).  I have recursion disabled.  When I use NSLookup to lookup any of the A records or CName Records the results are returned as
    expected.  However, if I attempt to lookup any SRV or MX Records, the list of root hints are returned (which is what I would expect if I was attempting to lookup a domain not hosted on this server).  Now I enable recursion and run the same exact
    commands and I get the results I'm expecting.
    I'm stumped.....
    DB

    Reader's digest version:  Putting a period at the end of my record, resolved the issue.  This seems to be a difference between Windows 2003 and Windows 2008R2
    Long version:
    Thanks for the debug tip.  That confirms the issue.  So to backup a little, I had a Windows 2003 box running DNS.  I planned on decommissioning this box; therefore, I stood up the second server, made a secondary DNS zone, once all records
    transferred, I flipped the primary and secondary roles.
    The real problem is this zone cannot find any of the TXT records such as SRV and MX.  When I run NSLookup with recursion disabled, my results are:
        HEADER:
            opcode = QUERY, id = 18, rcode = NOERROR
            header flags:  response, want recursion
            questions = 1,  answers = 0,  authority records = 13,  additional = 3
    That makes perfect sense why recursion is working.  If I run the same results on the secondary DNS server (the original server) the results are expected:
        HEADER:
            opcode = QUERY, id = 20, rcode = NOERROR
            header flags:  response, auth. answer, want recursion, recursion avail.
            questions = 1,  answers = 4,  authority records = 0,  additional = 4
    SO THE REAL QUESTION is why can't the new server find these records, especially since it's a copy of the zone from the old server.  I flipped the servers back, deleted the DNS zone (and files) on the new server, restarted DNS service, created the zone
    again, and allowed the content to copy over from the old server and I STILL get the same results.
    The last thing I did was created a new SRV record on the new server and performed another NSLookup, but still get the same results.
    So then I remembered
    MuhammadUmar's post about putting a period at the end of my nslookup command.  I honestly didn't that that was going to change the results, but BAM.  I was wrong.  When I put in the request with a period at the end of the record, I get the
    results I'm expecting.
    Thanks all for helping me on this one!

  • CF10 install on win2k8 with Plesk - websites won't resolve

    I am unable to get any of my ColdFusion websites to resolve on a new server Windows 2008 R2 server (IIS 7.5) with Plesk.  The issue appears to be permission issues between CF and Plesk but I cannot figure them out for the life of me.  I have run and re-run the web server configuration manager about 15 times as administrator.    I have the most recent hotfixes installed.  I was able to get the CF Administrator to load on the default website, but none of the other domains. Even having done so I have had to create the Jakarta and CFIDE directories manually on the other domains.  So I suspect this is a signe of a permission issue.  What permisison settings do I need to put in place so that Plesk and CF10 play well together?
    I am getting the following generic error.
    500 - Internal server error.
    There is a problem with the resource you are looking for, and it cannot be displayed.
    I get this even when trying to load a jpg file.
    Chad

    Hi Chad,
    I guess if there is any permission issue then you will get Access denied when accessing the Application page, however if you can enable the robust debugging so you can check the complete error msg. So enable the debug info and share the screenshot here, Also you can test with a simple cfm page which doesn't have any dependency with you App and see if ColdFusion can server it.

  • [URGENT!!!] DNS won't resolve. PLEASE HELP!!! [DESPERATE]

    guys,
    i googled, read the DNS & BIND book (very useful), but still haven't solved my problem and this is killing me as i have spent days and the darn thing simply refuses to work!!! i am desperate and need your help.
    i am trying to set up a DNS server on my dual NIC x86 Solaris 10.
    1. i am getting confused with naming interfaces. i seem cannot have two network ifaces named like m1.example.com. each one must have its own unique name, right? [pls advise here]
    so i name them m1.example.com and m2.example.com respectively. m1 is for router and m2 is for switch (LAN).
    m1.example.com - 10.0.0.2
    m2.example.com - 192.168.16.1
    2. secondly I cannot get the SOA record. what interface should be used as SOA?? i tried m1 as it is "primary" (iprb0) and connects to the internet. however, it didn't work.
    i even tried m3.example.com trying to combine two interfaces as below (still won't work):
    my db files (excerps, server is down, writing from home) :
    DB.EXAMPLE.COM
    $TTL 3h
    @ IN SOA m3.example.com. admin.example.com. ( 1 3h 1h 1w 1h)
    IN NS m3.example.com.
    localhost IN A 127.0.0.1
    m1.example.com IN A 10.0.0.2
    m2.example.com IN A 192.168.16.1
    example.com IN MX 10 m3.example.com
    m3 IN A 10.0.0.2
    IN A 192.168.16.1
    DB.10.0.0$TTL 3h
    @ IN SOA m3.example.com. admin.example.com. ( 1 3h 1h 1w 1h)
    IN NS m3.example.com.
    1 IN PTR m3.example.com
    DB.192.168.16$TTL 3h
    @ IN SOA m3.example.com. admin.example.com. ( 1 3h 1h 1w 1h)
    IN NS m3.example.com.
    2 IN PTR m3.example.com
    DB.127.0.0$TTL 3h
    @ IN SOA m3.example.com. admin.example.com. ( 1 3h 1h 1w 1h)
    IN NS m3.example.com.
    1 IN PTR localhost.the previuous incarnation of the files contained m1 instead of m3 as SOA and NS, but like i mentioned already, it didn't work either.
    i am able to ping router 10.0.0.1, but can't surf.
    when i nslookup m3.example.com it gives:
    Server: 127.0.0.1
    Address: 127.0.0.1#53
    Name: m3.example.com
    Address: 10.0.0.2
    Name: m3.example.com
    Address: 192.168.16.1and if i nslookup m1.example.com and m2.example.com it gives proper addresses (10.0.0.2 and 192.168.16.1 respectively).
    DNS is running and files don't return errors after named-checkzone.
    the idea is to make DNS server work for local network (192.168.16/24) and install postfix on top. however i am stuck with DNS at the moment.
    please, anybody point me in the right direction - need to get this working by tomorrow!!!!!
    many thanks for your replies.

    Whats your named.conf look like? Also, google DNS forwarder/forwarding....

  • Wifi not connecting - IP address won't resolve

    Hi - I've had my Incredible 2 for a few days, and have had no success getting it to connect to my wireless access point at home. It recognizes the network, and accepts the WEP key, but hangs on "Obtaining IP address from ..." without establishing a connection.
    We have four computers and an iTouch that all connect to the network without any problems.
    I haven't tried connecting to an unsecured network yet.
    Anyone else experience this?

    I landed on the solution to this problem on my own. Upgraded my wireless security from WEP to WPA2, and it did the trick.
